  I had been practicing ASP on my local machine.. I just wanted to change the TCP port address to 8080 and that is what I did, since then the URL "http://localhost/" is showing PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED, and technical reason being shown is : "You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from a directory that does not allow programs to be executed." I tried to change back the TCP port address to 80, (which is default) but its not making any difference. What should I do now, to make localhost to work as before ? When I create a virtual directory for the same path "C:/InetPub/wwwroot" then it works but with this URL "http://localhost/virualname/filename.asp" .. where as "http://localhost/filename.asp" throws error, as mentioned above. Can you please explain me what is this consequence is?? thank you :) Details: IIS verion is 7, OS XP,

• Why are my uWSGI processes dying immediately?

  I'm using Supervisor and the uWSGI Emperor mode. When I set limit-as to 512 (MB), workers die instantly (respawn, die, respawn, die, every 3/4 of a second or so): [uwsgi] workers = 4 threads = 40 limit-as = 512 harakiri = 20 max-requests = 1600 ... non-performance/memory/processor-related settings ommitted But, if I change limit-as to: [uwsgi] workers = 4 threads = 40 limit-as = 1024 harakiri = 20 max-requests = 1600 ... non-performance/memory/processor-related settings ommitted and restart uwsgi, the problem is gone immediately. In order to put a sham in this, I've modified the setting back to 512, restarted again, and the problem is back immediately. Notes: My app is a simple Django app without much additional Python setup during start-up time.

  I have tried many way to install IIS in my Windows 7 Professionnel environment. And I have always an error. I tried with Web Plateform Api - "Fatal Error during installation" With Windows Features in configuration pannel - "An error has occurred. • Changes to .htaccess ignored

  I have a website on the server, containing .htaccess. For testing purposes I wanted to replace it with another .htaccess, but changes have been ignored. Even though I have replaced with new .htaccess or even deleted it from server root, website is still working, like I haven't done any changes. Basically new .htaccess is being ignored, it's like server cached it and doesn't care about the new one. Because of that a testing site won't work since old rewrite rules are still in place. All I know about server is that it's Linux. Is there any way to make server see the changes? I cannot restart server.

• Understanding Node.js and concept of non-blocking I/O

  Recently I became interested in using Node.js to tackle some of the parts of my web-application. I love the part that its full JavaScript and its very light weight so no use anymore to call an JavaScript-PHP call but a lighter JavaScript-JavaScript call. I however do not understand all the concepts explained. Basic concepts Now in the presentation for Node.js Ryan Dahl talks about non-blocking IO and why this is the way we need to create our programs. I can understand the theoretical concept. You just don't wait for a response, you go ahead and do other things. You make a callback for the response, and when the response arrives millions of clock-cycles later, you can fire that. If you have not already I recommend to watch this presentation. It is very easy to follow and pretty detailed. There are some nice concepts explained on how to write your code in a good manner. There are also some examples given and I am going to work with the basic example given. Examples The way we do thing now: puts("Enter your name: "); var name = gets(); puts("Name: " + name); Now the problem with this is that the code is halted at line 1. It blocks your code. The way we need to do things according to node puts("Enter your name: "); gets(function (name) { puts("Name: " + name); }); Now with this your program does not halt, because the input is a function within the output. So the programs continues to work without halting. Questions Now the basic question I have is how does this work in real-life situations. I am talking here for the use in web-applications. The application I am writing does I/O, bit is still does it in am blocking matter. I think that most of the time, if not all, you need to block, because you have to wait on what the response is you have to work with. When you need to get some information from the database, most of the time this data needs to be verified before you can further with the code. Example 1 If you take a login for example. You have to wait for the database to response to return, because you can not do anything else. I can't see a way around this without blocking. Example 2 Going back to the basic example. The use just request something from a database which does not need any verification. You still have to block because you don't have anything to do more. I can not come up with a single example where you want to do other things while you wait for the response to return. Possible answers I have read that this frees up recourses. When you program like this it takes less CPU or memory usage. So this non-blocking IO is ONLY meant to free up recourses and does not have any other practical use. Not that this is not a huge plus, freeing up recourses is always good. Yet I fail to see this as a good solution. because in both of the above examples, the program has to wait for the response of the user. Whether this is inside a function, or just inline, in my opinion there is a program that wait for input. Resources I looked at I have looked at some recourses before I posted this question. They talk a lot about the theoretical concept, which is quite clear. Yet i fail to see some real-life examples where this is makes a huge difference. • Adding MySQL servers/ data nodes into database clustering without restarting mysql cluster

  I currently have mysql clustering up and running. For high scalability is there a way to include either mysql node, data nodes, or management nodes without restarting the entire cluster. I wish to understand how is it implement or is there a documentation I can read. I believe only the latest version can support this. I am running NDB 7.0. I am aware that I am able to add the nodes online, but it requires me perform a rolling restart. What other approach I can take to implement this without restarting in my network?

• Windows 7 power management in Boot Camp mode

  I have a Macbook Pro with Windows 7 installed in Boot Camp. I have serious problems with the power management and not sure why. I have the default Balanced power plan selected. Many times when I close the laptop and leave it for more than just a few minutes, when I open it back up, it does not awake immediately. I end up having to press the power button to get it to wake up. Sometimes this causes it to wake up in Windows mode, sometimes it reboots completely, sometimes the battery has been drained and Windows has to restart. Is this a common problem? Can I fix it?

• Terminal Services - what does this message mean ?

  Hi - I'm responsible for a W2003 server. I'm trying to switch on terminal services. When I do so I get a message that includes the text : "If you continue with this installation, programs that are already installed on your server will no longer work and will have to be reinstalled" Surely that doesn't mean what it appears to mean ? I just want one extra person to be able to access the machine in the same way that currently two administrators do (via "Remote Administration") only I want all three to be able to do simultaneously. When I bought the extra TS license I thought I was just buying the right to have one extra user. Is doing this really going to trash everything on the machine ?

• setting ulimit and ubuntu 8.04

  Hi there, We have two ubuntu 8.04 servers. With the database server I set the table_cache to 1000 however when I restart mysql the status only shows 257 and the open files limit says 1024 I adjusted ulimit by doing ulimit -n 8192 and then restarting mysql; this seemed to do the tick however after a few hours I did ulimit -n and saw it had returned back to 1024 Bit of a worry. I edited the /etc/security/limits.conf and added mysql soft nofile 8192 mysql hard nofile 8192 then rebooted, no change. I then edited and change mysql to * rebooted, no change I then edited and changed it to one line * - nofile 8192 and rebooted, no change. cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max gives me 768730 sysctl fs.file-max gives me fs.file-max = 768730 I am at a bit of a loss to how I can set and keep the ulimit value set so I can increase the table cache properly on mysql.

• Why PC reboots when there’s a power failure even with UPS?

  I've purchased a Line Interactive UPS 1200VA. It's supposed to give 8~20min backup (as written in the manual). This UPS has transfer time < 10ms. It works fine when the mains is active. But the problem is that when the power went off, the PC also went off for a fraction of a second and started rebooting. The strangest thing though is that it has to be a proper power failure by the service supplier. If I just turn off the power at the wall plug, the UPS kicks in immediately and the PC carries on working fine. What's the solution of that? What should I do? My hard drive was physically damaged because of improper shut down & restart. I've 5~8 times power outage in my country so I badly need an UPS.

• Remote Desktop closes with Fatal Error (Error Code: 5)

  We have one PC (Windows XP SP3) that we can not log onto using a Remote Desktop session. Logging on to the PC directly (sitting in front of it using the connected keyboard and monitor) work fine. From a second PC (tried a number of different ones but all Windows XP SP3) I run 'mstsc' and type in PC name to connect to. This shows the login box which we can enter the correct login details and click OK. Within a few second we get an error: Title: Fatal Error (Error Code:5) Error: Your Remote Desktop session is about to end. This computer might be low on virtual memory. Close your other programs, and then try connecting to the remote computer again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support. None of the computers we are using are low on memory (2Gb+) and we let windows manage the virtual memory side of things. We do not see this with any other PC and do use Remote Desktop in meeting rooms to connect to user PCs with no problems.

• Unable to Turn On Media Streaming in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7

  I have 2 PC installed with Windows 7 and Media Player 12. I would like to use Play To feature on both PC connected via LAN. Both PC (A and B) run media player in standard user account. I able to turn on media streaming option in PC A (with privilege access prompt) without any problem. However, PC B also prompt privilege access but no response after enter administrator password. Both PC follow same configuration steps. I may use "play to" PC A (in standard user account) from other PC without any problem. But I can't "play to" PC B in standard user account. I can only run media player in administrator account for "play to" to function. I have tried uninstall and reinstall media player via "Programs and Features" in control panel on PC B. However, it doesn't work too. Does anyone has similar experience as me failing to turn on media streaming that running Windows media player in standard user account?

• How do I remove the Conduit toolbar that comes with µTorrent?

  I have recently installed µTorrent in my computer and unfortunately the Conduit adware came bundled with it. Basically, it installs a toolbar on all browsers and replaces the default search and initial homepage to that of Conduit. I have tried to run AdAware and MalwareBytes but both were unable to remove it. Search results on Google tell me to remove the Conduit software in the Control Panel → Remove Programs, but it's not listed there. Other suggestions involved going into the extensions configuration in Chrome, but it's not listed there as well. Anybody had the same problem?

• Sony Vaio CPU fan runs at full speed after installing Windows 8.1 preview

  I installed the Windows 8.1 preview on my Sony Vaio E Series 14P (http://www.sony.com.au/product/sve14a27cg) and now my CPU fan is running at full speed all the time. When I first start my computer it runs normally, but a few seconds after reaching the Windows login screen the fan speed will suddenly jump up to max. It's pretty loud, so I'm hoping there's a solution! I've tried updating my bios to the latest version but that didn't help. I've tried programs like SpeedFan, but that wasn't able to detect my CPU fan at all. My CPU usage and temperature is normal and doesn't warrant the max fan speed. • Windows 7 installation reboot loop

  Upgrading from Vista home premium to win 7 hoe premium from DVD ex Digital river on gigabyte VM900m; core 2 duo 2.13GHz 2GB ram; Western digital 250GB HD. Got as far as "Expanding Windows files ...100% the error message "Computer encountered unexpected error... To install windows press OK to restart computer and reinstall windows" The computer then reboots, loads Windows 7 (new logo) a essage that says "setup is starting services" then the error message comes back. I can get into BIOS to change boot priority but the computer just ignores this and goes through the same sequence. At the point of "to boot from CD/DVD press any key" my keyboard is deactivated and i cannot make a choice and the sae sequence occurs. I cannot break the sequence - I have push every key, disconnected every external device including HDMI screen, but nothing stops the loop. Any ideas? Auswoolf

  I have an old madCatz racing wheel for the playstation 2. The gas and brake pedals are connected to the wheel by a serial port. I just bought a usb racing wheel for the PC but it lacks pedals so I wanted to see if I could get these old madCatz working. I just installed the serial port in my motherboard, but now I have a problem with software. Nothing will recognize the pedal. I was wondering if there are any programs or drivers out there that will allow me to set the pedals up to work. Any advice would be appreciated!

  During our production builds, a very large (10 megabyte) static content file in the root directory will sometimes be locked by IIS and cannot be deleted by the clean task. This is presumably because it is being actively served to one or more clients at the time. The build process stops the website before cleaning via c:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe stop site http://oursite.com However, this does not release the file - we have to restart IIS to get the process to relinquish its lock. appcmd.exe allows you to take IIS down completely; we do not want to do this! Are there any other ways to get IIS to let go of a locked file, without restarting IIS? Simply stopping and starting the individual website is definitely not working to release the file lock.

• Copy Windows 7 environment running on external drive to a new HDD partition on a Mac?

  My PC has just given up on me. It's getting a bit old so I took the HDD out and bought a Mac. I've put the PC's HDD into an enclosure, plugged it into the Mac and dragged across most of my files. I've got a couple of programs that are PC-only that I have to run from time to time, so I'd like to make a partition on the Mac and have Windows 7 installed there. I know how to set up a clean version of Windows in Boot Camp. Is there an easy way to copy over the environment on the HDD to the Mac's partition? I don't really need all the stuff on the PC, just the operating system. Is there a better way to do this other than having to deactivate Windows, then reactivate it on the Mac? I have a free upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista, thus I have an upgrade disc, not the full disc.

• How to boot Snow Leopard without Rebel EFI?

  I have Mac OSX 10.5.7 on one hdd and I want to install Snow Leopard 10.6 so I attach another hdd, format it with GUID, and then boot my system using free Rebel EFI disc, then I install the Snow Leopard but in the end the setup fails. When I restart the PC and boot using Rebel EFI it shows Snow Leopard installed. So I boot that in safe mode and it started. My problem is I cannot boot it into safe mode because I have Chameleon already installed for 10.5.7 and in the Chameleon I can not see any option to boot into safe mode? So does someone know how do I boot Snow Leopard?

• windows 2003 remote desktop fail connect after windows update

  I have a number of windows servers, both win2003, win2003r2 and win2003r2 64 bit. After installing windows updates on the machines and rebooting terminal services give me an immediate "not connect" message. The servers are running fine and you can connect via the physical machine. Once you reboot the box (with remote restart in some cases when it's not accessible) terminal services behaves itself and allows a connection. Whilst it's not a show stopper it is rather annoying when you can't see your box. Anyone know why this is or what the cause is?

• Converting Future Composer FC14 tracker music to MIDI data

  I have an old .FC music file from the Amiga/C64 days. It was made using Future Composer. The first four bytes of the file read as FC14 in ASCII; I'm pretty sure that's the version number. I need to dump the channels and their notes into a standard MIDI file in order to play it through my MIDI devices. Is there a way to do this with existing programs? If not, are there any specifications available on the format of these files? I do not require the samples, and I am aware that they will be lost during the conversion process.

  I recently installed Windows Server 2012. This will serve as the dev-instance for our engineers and will be accessed in multiple time zones. I therefore plan to run this 24x7 but want to conserve energy by going to sleep mode when not in use & enable Wake-On-Magic-Packet. Based on the previous post it appears that there is no option to sleep Win Server 2012 with Hyper-V. Since I don't care much about virtualization now, I uninstalled Hyper-V. In addition to this, I have done the following 1) Ran powercfg -a. Don't find sleep. 2) Added [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hvboot] "Start"=dword:00000003 to try gaining sleep - no luck! 3) Only see Shutdown and Restart in power options. • What's a good, affortable ruter that will not give me problems when downloading torrents?

  I found several routers on newegg and they're in the $50-60 range, but I'm not sure if they'll handle the number of connections that are created when downloading torrents (100-300 seeds and around 50 peers). My roommate watches netflix movies, my brother and I download torrents, so my NETGEAR router ends up choking on the traffic and I have to restart it quite frequently. I've already posted a couple of questions on the topic and I've come to the conclusion that I need a new router. What are some routers that I should consider (my budget is in the $50 range)?

• Why does Ubuntu 11.10 hang frequenty?

  I've been using Ubuntu from a long time and recently I have shifted to its newest version 11.10. Its interface is nice but my touch-pad hangs frequently in short intervals of time. When that happens, no key or key combination works. The only option is to restart or logout my laptop. I am using a Dell Inspiron N4010. I have tried a lot to solve this problem but haven't found any satisfactory help till now. Most of my friends who are using Ubuntu 11.10 reported the same to me, seems like it's a bug. How can I get out of this problem?
