  • Return type value if RunTimeException has been thrown and not catched.

    I am using Gson to parse Json. What I don't understand what the return type will be if you don't catch the Runtime Exception. I was expecting it to be null, but it is not null when evaluating with a simple if statement. My code looks something like this: public X x() { return gson.fromJson(jsonString, X.class); } then from another function I call the function: public void y() { final X x = x(); if (x == null) { System.out.println("x == null") } } I was expecting x to be null, but it isn't because the print statement is not called? What is the value of x? How can if them. I have my problem by using a catch block in the x() function and returning null. But I am just wondering what the value of function x() is(if any?)? Hopefully I make any sense at all.

    I have a web form that collects information and submits it to a cgi that attempts to insert the data into LDAP. The problem is that I'm trying to use a variable with ::ldap::add and it's just not working.     Is there a Java equivalent of SQL's COALESCE function? That is, is there any way to return the first non-null value of several variables? e.g. Double a = null; Double b = 4.4; Double c = null; I want to somehow have a statement that will return the first non-null value of a, b, and c - in this case, it would return b, or 4.4. (Something like the sql method - return COALESCE(a,b,c)). I know that I can do it explicitly with something like: return a != null ? a : (b != null ? b : c) But I wondered if there was any built-in, accepted function to accomplish this.

  • Why can't I store a float value - it's always zero!

    I have a view controller that is created by the app delegate - it's the first one shown in the app. In its interface I declare float lengthOfTime; I also set it as a property: @property (nonatomic) float lengthOfTime; And in it's implemetation: @synthesize lengthOfTime; In the class viewDidLoad method, I set the value: self.lengthOfTime = 3.0f; However, after this, the value is always zero. No errors, no compile warnings, nothing. Just zero. The class is instantiated, it is showing in the view, so I'm pretty sure it's not a nil reference. I've searched all over Google and can't figure it out. What's going on?!? :(

    Hey, my app parses numerous txt files in a directory that are almost all formatted identically, then inserts the values into columns of my sql db. However, there are a few files that the app has come across where a value is 'blank' instead of '0.0', so the application fails stating that it cannot convert that value to numeric. So i need to use that in my app.config I tried to give the same value as, <add key="Path_SqlDump" value="\"C:\\MySQL\\MySQL Server 5.0\\bin\\mysqldump\""></add> But the above gives me error, because of the quotes. All i need is, i should be able to assign "\"C:\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.0\bin\mysqldump\"" to a string. HOW ?

    On a Content model have an attribute named slug. When creating a new record, I want to use a helper to populate this field, but on an existing record I want to use the value from the database. Currently I have: <%- if @content.new_record? -%> <%= f.text_field :slug, :value => "#{generate_slug(6)}" %> <%- else %> <%= f.text_field :slug %> <%- end %> But that seems a bit verbose. Is this the best way, or is there no other way?   • After MS Access Conversion 97 --> 2002 I get 'Enter Parameter Value' when exitting a form.

    Hi, So when I exit a form from my newly converted .mdb it asks to Enter Parameter Value. It goes through (ie if i enter a value, it asks for another) the values required for a query that is run on a List Box on the page. The query has not been changed during the conversion. The values it is getting for the query are from text boxes on the same form. There are a few Requeries in the form (run from VB) so I imagine that it is rerunning again on Exit (although this isnt explicit in the form properties). I'm not quite sure how to go about solving this. Your help would be great. Thanks

    I want to construct a value in a list comprehension, but also filter on that value. For example: [expensive_function(x) for x in generator where expensive_function(x) < 5] I want to avoid calling expensive_function twice per iteration. The generator may return an infinite series, and list comprehensions aren't lazily evaluated. So this wouldn't work: [y in [expensive_function(x) for x in generator where expensive_function(x)] where y < 5] I could write this another way, but it feels right for a list comprehension and I'm sure this is a common usage pattern (possible or not!).
