• How to setup network for Android Honeycomb in VirtualBox?

  I have been trying to setup Android Honeycomb (3.2) with VirtualBox according to this tutorial: http://androidspin.com/2011/01/24/howto-install-android-x86-2-2-in-virtualbox/ but using this iso instead: http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/downloads/detail?name=android-x86-3.2-RC1-tegav2.iso&can=2&q When I type netcfg if gives me: 127.0.0.1/8, so apparently it is not connecting in the network. I tried setting the network to NAT and Bridge, but no results.. Is there anything I am missing?

• ActionBar menu appearing 2 times one at top and second at bottom

  In my application appearing very strange problem. I am using Action Bar with the help of "import android.support.v7.app.ActionBar; import android.support.v7.app.ActionBarActivity;" Now issue is same menu appearing two times. one is at top and second is at bottom. I want that menu at only top area. Below is the screenshot for your reference. • Android - Retrieve all data from a SQLite table row

  I have searched and cannot find an answer to my issue so i hope i am not completely barking up the wrong tree (so to speak). I am new to android and have started to create an app. My app on one screen creates and adds entries to a SQLite database using public class DatabaseHandler extends SQLiteOpenHelper and this all appears to work. I retrieve all the data and populate it into a grid, again this now works. My issue is I am unable to retrieve one complete line from the grid. I populate/display the grid with the following code. I have cut a lot out as the grid is made in stages, header, blank lines etc but the grid does display as I want. The id’s work as when I touch a line it displays its unique id. The onClick is right at the end and when I use getText() instead of getID() all it returns is the data in the labelDate. How do I retrieve all the labels as listed below? • IntentService android download and return file to Activity

  I have a fairly tricky situation that I'm trying to determine the best design for. The basics are this: I'm designing a messaging system with a similar interface to email. When a user clicks a message that has an attachment, an activity is spawned that shows the text of that message along with a paper clip signaling that there is an additional attachment. At this point, I begin preloading the attachment so that when the user clicks on it - it loads more quickly. currently, when the user clicks the attachment, it prompts with a loading dialog until the download is complete at which point it loads a separate attachment viewer activity, passing in the bmp byte array. I don't ever want to save attachments to persistent storage. The difficulty I have is in supporting rotation as well as home button presses etc. The download is currently done with a thread and handler setup. Instead of this, I'd like the flow to be the following: User loads message as before, preloading begins of attachment as before (invisible to user). When the user clicks on the attachment link, the attachment viewer activity is spawned right away. If the download was done, the image is displayed. If not, a dialog is shown in THIS activity until it is done and can be displayed. Note that ideally the download never restarts or else I've wasted cycles on the preload. Obviously I need some persistent background process that is able to keep downloading and is able to call back to arbitrarily bonded Activities. It seems like the IntentService almost fits my needs as it does its work in a background thread and has the Service (non UI) lifecycle. However, will it work for my other needs? I notice that common implementations for what I want to do get a Messenger from the caller Activity so that a Message object can be sent back to a Handler in the caller's thread. This is all well and good but what happens in my case when the caller Activity is Stopped or Destroyed and the currently active Activity (the attachment viewer) is showing? Is there some way to dynamically bind a new Activity to a running IntentService so that I can send a Message back to the new Activity? The other question is on the Message object. Can I send arbitrarily large data back in this package? For instance, rather than send back that "The file was downloaded", I need to send back the byte array of the downloaded file itself since I never want to write it to disk (and yes this needs to be the case). Any advice on achieving the behavior I want is greatly appreciated. I've not been working with Android for that long and I often get confused with how to best handle asynchronous processes over the course of the Activity lifecycle especially when it comes to orientation changes and home button presses...

• How to store byte[] from Android Camera onPictureTaken method within application for later use

  I am writing a larger Android application and I use the camera within the app. All I want to do with the camera is have the user take a picture, then start a new activity to show that image and allow the user to decide if they want to keep the image or not. I am having the hardest time figuring out how to simply store the byte[] data from the onPictureTaken method so that I can display it to the user in the next activity. I have tried many different routes and none of them have worked. The last thing I tried was creating a globalsettings class that extends the Application class and creating a byte[] field within it to store the byte[] from the camera so that I could use it within another activity, but my global variable is still not getting set. • Upgrade Debian to unstable on VirtualBox: udev problem

  I'm running Debian stable on VirtualBox on Windows Vista 64-bit Ultimate. It's been running great, but I needed some newer packages, so I put sid in my sources.list to upgrade to unstable (as I've done a dozen times on various Linux boxes over the years). When I upgraded, something went screwy and it asked me to run apt-get -f install to fix them, which gave this: (Reading database ... 77846 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace udev 0.125-7+lenny3 (using .../archives/udev_151-3_amd64.deb) ... Since release 150, udev requires that support for the CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED feature is disabled in the running kernel. Please upgrade your kernel before or while upgrading udev. AT YOUR OWN RISK, you can force the installation of this version of udev WHICH DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR RUNNING KERNEL AND WILL BREAK YOUR SYSTEM AT THE NEXT REBOOT by creating the /etc/udev/kernel-upgrade file. • Shoretel Upgrade Path

  I currently have a Shoretel Server running Server 2003 x32 as a virtual machine paired with a ShoreGear 90 switch and another unused switch of the same model being reserved for manual failover. I am getting the software mailed to me from my partner, but with limited support since the server is in a relatively remote area. I am tempted to upgrade the OS at the same time as performing the upgrade, but want to know if there are any horror stories or advice I should know about before diving in. I'm upgrading from Shoretel 9.2 Build. I will be upgrading first to version 10.1 then finally to 11.1. The system has been bullet proof since it was installed and we are upgrading mainly to get a client that is a little more modern. My question boils down to: Should I even bother with an OS upgrade or even possibly a fresh install of Windows with an install of Shoretel 11.1 and just transfer the configuration? Should I just stay with Server 2003 since it is supported in my target version of Shoretel and the upgrade will be more than enough to keep me busy as a novice?

  The value of UPK during an upgrade is a hot topic and was a primary focus during our latest customer roundtable featuring The City and County of San Francisco: Leveraging UPK to Accelerate Your PeopleSoft Upgrade. As the Change Management Analyst for their PeopleSoft 9.0 HCM project (Project eMerge), Jan Crosbie-Taylor provided a unique perspective on how they're utilizing UPK and UPK pre-built content early on to successfully manage change for thousands of city and county employees and retirees as they move to this new release. With the first phase of the project going live next September, it's important to the City and County of San Francisco to 1) ensure that the various constituents are brought along with the project team, and 2) focus on the end user aspects of the implementation, including training. Here are some highlights on how UPK and UPK pre-built content are helping them accomplish this: As a former documentation manager, Jan really appreciates the power of UPK as a single source content creation tool. It saves them time by streamlining the documentation creation process, enabling them to record content once, then repurpose it multiple times. With regard to change management, UPK has enabled them to educate the project team and gain critical buy in and support by familiarizing users with the application early on through User Experience Workshops and by promoting UPK at meetings whenever possible. Users will already be comfortable with UPK as a source of help, having been exposed to it during classroom training. They are also using UPK for a non-Oracle application called JobAps, an online job application solution used by many government organizations. • Stuck on preserving config file in WIX major upgrade!

  ARGH! Wix is driving me crazy. So, of course I have seen the many posts both here on stackoverflow and elsewhere about WiX and major upgrades. I inherited this software project using WiX and am releasing a new version. I need this new version to leave ONLY the one configuration file if it's present, and replace everything else. This installer works EXCEPT no matter what I have done so far, the new XML file replaces the old on every install. Even attempting to use NeverOverwrite="yes" and even trying and messing back and forth with OnlyDetect="no"! I am simply stuck and humbly request a little guidance. The file that needs to be preserved is called SETTINGS.XML and is in the All Users-ApplicationData directory. Again I will report back once this is done to let you know whether or not the update was successful. Final Update: Don't know for sure what happened, but I'm almost sure that the error mentioned above was resolved in the first update prior to the 13.10 update. All set.

• Upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 failed

  Today Ubuntu asked me to upgrade to 11.04. The installation went completely fine until right at the end when the following packages failed: install-info ubuntu-standard The installer hung so I had to shut it down manually. Ubuntu still works fine but it says that the upgrade didn't work properly so I am hesitant to restart it until I have resolved the problem in case I can't get back in. I am running Ubuntu inside the latest version of Virtual Box and was previously running version 10.10. • ZFS pool broken after upgrading to 14.04 LTS

  Well, I have been putting off upgrading to 14.04 for fear that I would break something. Actually for fear that it would break zfs (or I would break it). I am bascially slightly better than novice at linux. Spent the last couple of hours trying to get the pool back. Now I am at the stage where I don't think I have a complete failure, but I am worried that I may break it. So if could help me not break it, and recover it, I would be thankful. My zfs is file storage and not boot. It was working fine for a year and was working perfectly before the upgrade (scrub and everything was fine). I was confident that the upgrade would work (or at least I could fix it) because I had upgraded once in the past, the pool went missing, but I was able to get it back. I have reinstalled zfs, zfs utilities, and some dependencies (after searching this forum) I think what happened is 14.04 deleted some config file, or specified disk names differntly, but I could be wrong. When I set the pool up originally, I was using specific device Ids as I recall (because I did not want to break things if they got reassigned at boot) So see if this helps. I can confirm that old mountpoint folders are there but empty. no talloc stackframe at ../source3/param/loadparm.c:4864, leaking memory pool: naspool1 state: UNAVAIL status: One or more devices could not be used because the label is missing or invalid. • ACPI=OFF in Ubuntu 11.10

  When I tried to upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 the system froze, so I've been playing around with a couple other linux builds (Fedora, Mint, and Puppy) the last couple days and I keep coming around to the same problem: a lockup during boot; each build referencing a kernel error. On another board someone suggested booting with a boot up line of "ACPI = off". It works with other OS', but I'm not sure where to put this command. Can anyone 'enlighten' me, please?

  In Ubuntu 12.04 the update manager offered me to upgrade it to 14.04, so i kept it for upgrading for whole night and after all the downloading, fetching and removing of packages it asked for restart. So i restarted the system that's it from that time there is no log in page, nothing is coming and just a black command prompt prompting initramfs is appearing (BUSY BOX or something). How can i solve this issue ? or there is way to revert back to 12.04? please help?

  Today, after some auto upgrade i think, my Lubuntu boot to a blank wallpaper and wrong graphich display. If I boot my computer again, instead of select the first line in the boot menu, I select "previous linux version" and select one old version in the list then my computer boot fine. Now, is there a way to revert my linux to that version? Or I will always have to select this when I boot? Thank you very much

• How to connect my Android to my Laptop wirelessly , to stream data between the two?

  I want to stream data from my Laptop PC to my Android phone using TCP or UDP by creating sockets in both the phone and the laptop, but it has to be done wirelessly. How do I connect them to stream the data ? I thought creating an ad-hoc wireless network from my laptop and connecting to it using my Android would work. But my Android is not detecting the ad-hoc network. Is there any other way how I can connect the two ? I downloaded this software called 'connectify' and created a wifi hotspot on my laptop, and successfully connected the two. But will I be able to stream data to my device using this connection ? Can simple direct Bluetooth connection help me in creating sockets in both phone and laptop and stream the data ?
