• Wrong shortcut icons on the desktop and in the programs menu

  When creating a program setup, I also put some documentation or readme files in it. However after the program is installed, I get wrong icons on the desktop and in the programs menu, as below: What I expected: I thought that for the registered file types (such as pdf, txt, doc, etc.) I don't need to set icons manually in the setup project. Am i wrong? As far as I know some other installers doesn't have such problem. Does anybody know how to fix this for Visual Studio? My environment is: Visual Studio 2005, C#, Windows XP Pro SP3

• Display streaming video in desktop app.

  I have a Windows native desktop app (C++/Delphi), and I'm successfully using Directshow to display live video in it from a 'local' video capture device. The next thing I want to do is display video from a 'remote' capture device, streamed over the LAN. To stream the video, I guess I can use something like Expression Encoder or VLC, but I'm not sure what's the easiest way to receive/decode the streamed video. Inserting an ActiveX VLC or Flash player might be one option (although the licensing may be an issue then), but I was wondering if there's any way to achieve this with Directshow... Application needs to run on XP, and the video decoding should ideally be royalty free. Suggestions, please!

• Gem file with git remote failing on heroku push

  I have the following line in my gemfile: gem 'client_side_validations', :git => "[email protected]:Dakuan/client_side_validations.git", :branch => "master", ref: '2245b4174ffd4b400d999cb5a2b6dccc0289eb67' The repo it's pointing at is public and I can run bundle install / update locally just fine. • CruiseControl.NET Silverlight Unit Tests Interact with Desktop Windows Server 2008

  Hi, Currently we have CCService running as a Domain account because the build scripts deploy to a network location. However this causes any unit tests that test the view to fail. Due to not being allowed to interact with desktop. I can change the CCService to run as local system which works however i loose network connectivity. I also have tried setting up a /interactive cmd.exe but this has been deprecated in Windows Server 2008. Any Ideas on this one? Thanks Jeremy

  I am using a "shake" function from github - and it has a detection that is browser-based javascript. //feature detect this.hasDeviceMotion = 'ondevicemotion' in window; This though yields true even on Chrome on OS X. It feels strange, since I am not willing to shake my monitor on my desktop. Safari on OS X gives me "false" in return when testing. I have searched but not been able to find out why Chrome decided to take this path. It bugs me. Is there a better way to make this detection? Not all "mobile devices" has shake as well.. or does not let the browser have that capability, as it does not seem to work in windows phones.

( in this case, shoud I go with a flex project ? AIR ? what is the gain between this and a simple raw flash project ) - C#/Silverlight ? Any other possibility ?   In my deployment on JBoss 5.1.0GA with JavaEE-5 I have beans of the general form public interface Foo { void baz (); } @Stateless public class FooBean implements Foo { void baz() { // ... } } I have assumed that this is the same as if I have explicitly annotated the Foo interface with @Local. From seeing a stack trace in the code I think that it is actually using a remote interface, whereas I want all of my beans to be local. Do I need to explicitly annotate interfaces as Local or is there some default? Finding documentation on this is proving challenging so any links to relevant documentation would be greatly appreciated.

  Hi I don't use php or mysql but I am trying to upgrade a phpbb board I got but the one click installer forgot to install some stuff in the database so I can't upgrade to the newest version till I add the missing stuff. So I need to do a remote connect to mysql database but I am not sure how to do this or what software I need(free, and very easy to setup I don't want to spend much time on this). I don't really want to use phpmyadmin since I don't want to start setting up a virtual directory and whatever else it needs to be installed. Like I said I don't do php or mysql I just choose it since in my hosting package it was one click to install phpbb and I had a mysql database free. Thanks

• Circular reference while setting up bidirectional communication line between two remote objects

  I'm using .Net remoting to set up a bidirectional communication line between two objects. The basic structure is as follows: Instances of RemoteObjectA call methods on StaticObjectA. Instances of RemoteObjectB call methods on StaticObjectB. StaticObjectA needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectB. StaticObjectB needs to be able to call methods provided by RemoteObjectA. The problem with this setup is the circular reference in RemoteObjectA gets StaticObjectA gets RemoteObjectB gets StaticObjectB gets RemoteObjectA... I implemented an interface IRemoteObjectA and IRemoteObjectB and had the remote objects inheret from their respective interfaces, but then setting up the remoting fails. If the solution to this problem is: "don't use remoting", I can deal with that. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a simple solution.

  Hello. I have a TileList which represents some remote data. I also have a form which allows me to change the data. And the data may be changed by someone else too. What is the best way to maintain data in the list in an up-to-date state? The simplest option I see is the following: Select an item in the list Edit it in the form Save it. The form submits the data to the server When the server reports success the list re-fetches it's data The very bad thing about this workflow is that the list loses selection (a tree would also loose the nodes' expanded/collapsed state). I would really love to find out another option which would enable the list to maintain it's selection state. Any guesses on how it may be done?

  Does anyone now how to achieve a "Secure-Desktop Mode" (effect) such as one gets from the Windows Vista/7 UAC consent-blocks? I assume it is some function which will remove pixels here-and-there (and possibly graying them) and then finally drawing that to screen... I would like to apply it to my application to keep the user from doing anything until the another user connects to the system (but that is besides the point) I would really appreciate the advise.   Hi everyone, I am developing an application using java, my application would be accessed by number of different users simultaneously and the database resides in a central server. The access of the database from remote server is handled by just giving the appropriate IP of the server in the hibernate configure file. My question is, i have to store a picture regarding each user of the database, i heard that storing the image in the database and retrieving it from the database is not advised and has negative impact on the performance. Is it so ? What are the other possible ways i can implement this ? What is the best way to do it..? Please help....

  Hi, I've 2 machines with names Comp1, Comp2. There is a DNS name for them, that mask them as one, let say DNSName. I get IP addresses for both machines via Dns.GetHostEntry("DNSName"). But when I try get Dns.GetHostEntry(ipAddress) entry.HostName always contains DNSName. I found some way to get name through WMI. But our policy doesn't allow WMI on remote machines. I can do parsing of nbstat -a output, but I would like to do some clean aproach to this. Is there some way?

Oh My! What is a lowly little Windows desktop application developer to do :(. I'm hoping to get a thread started with suggestions on how to deal with this Gui dilemma. First off, I'm on Delphi 7. a) Does Delphi 2010 bring anything new to the table to help with this situation? b) Should we pick an aftermarket component suite and rely on them to solve all these problems? c) Should we go with an aftermarket skinning engine? d) Perhaps a more html type gui is the way to go. Can we make a relatively complex gui app with html that doesn't require using a browser? (prefer to keep it form based) e) Should we just knuckle down and code through each one of these scenarios and quit bitching about it? f) And finally, how in the world are we supposed to test all these conditions? thanks, shawnH

  I am working on a Windows desktop app (C++) that has an embedded Internet Explorer page. I'm working on the html page that is displayed in the There is not a back button control, so one of the requests is that links clicked on in the page should open the link in a browser window. It can open the link in the users default browser or in IE. Is this possible? I realize that this is not possible because javascript is in a sandbox and cannot touch outside applications. I'm thinking there might be a way because it is using the IE. I have tried the two methods that have worked for me in the past. Using jquery, I've tried these two approaches, but neither work in the app. They both work fine in normal browsers. Using target="_blank" $( "a" ).attr( "target", "_blank" ); The other is using window.open: $( "a" ).click( function() { window.open( $( this ).attr( "href" ) ); } ); I'm afraid that writing windows desktop applications is outside my area of expertise, so I cannot give more information regarding that side of the issue.

• Routing for remote gateway over VPN in Vista/7 broken?

  Hi, Situation is as follows. Home computer running Windows 7, sets up VPN connection (LT2P + IPSec, "use remote gateway" disabled) to office. Subnet is 192.168.64.x Office has Draytek Vigor 2920 router, subnet is 192.168.32.x What happens? - VPN connection itself works fine - Can ping any machine on the remote network - When trying to open a webpage from a host in the remote network, the remote server logs the incoming request, but the browser hangs on "waiting for..." and eventually times out. I have observed this problem on Windows Vista and Windows 7. On Windows XP however there is no problem like described above. The only clue I have is that there is a difference in the routing between XP and Vista/7. The output of "route print" on Windows XP looks like this: (See www.latunyi.com/routing_xp.png) So here the gateway for the 192.168.32.x subnet is the IP address that the local computer has in the remote network. The output of "route print" on Windows 7 (and Windows Vista) looks like this: (See www.latunyi.com/routing_win7.png") Now the gateway for the 192.168.32.x subnet is the IP address of the VPN router (32.1). I don't know if that causes this trouble, but it seems a bit strange. Enabling "use default gateway on remote network" doesn't make a difference. Using the new option "Disable class based route addition" in Windows 7 only makes the route to the VPN router disappear. I am really puzzled here. I assume the VPN routing can't be broken in both Vista and Windows 7, and this should just work without manually adding routes. I hope someone has a solution for this problem :-). Thanks!

• How to restore Active Desktop if Themes is locked via GPO?

  My company forces Active Desktop upon everybody so that it can display a (monthly-rotated) corporate wallpaper.jpg. Problem is, some computers (including my laptop) somehow experienced some errors resulting in the dreaded "Active Desktop Recovery" screen to show up... and clicking the "Restore My Active Desktop" button always resulted in "Internet Explorer Script Error". Various workarounds I found in the Internet either does not work or requires me to change the theme first to something else... and the latter I can't do because the Desktop Settings screen is locked via GPO. As it happens, due to the nature of the programs I use, I'm granted Administrator-level access on my computer. The question is: How do I fix my situation? Note: I don't need to put on my own wallpaper, but watching the "Active Desktop Recovery" screen (with its BLANK WHITE!!1! OH MY EYES!1!!one!eleven!! background) gets tiresome. I'm quite happy with the corporate wallpaper. I just need to somehow 'recover' my Active Desktop. More information: OS: Windows XP Professional SP3 (yeah, company's too afraid to even experiment with Windows 7) Antivirus: Symantec Endpoint Protection If you need any additional information, feel free to ask.

• Neo4j Windows Plugin Installation desktop V2.M06

  I have downloaded and installed the latest Window V2 Community M06 build of Neo4j on a windows 7 64 bit machine (I have tried the 32bit and 64 bit installs). Installation proceeds without and problems and the system runs normally but there is no /plugins directory (on both versions):- \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\ \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\.install4j \Program Files (x86)\Neo4j Community\bin I am trying to install the Spatial plugin .. so I tried creating the \plugins directory.   I've been using RMI in this project for a while. It's worth noting also that ports 1099 and 7099 are forwarded to the server machine (which should be obvious from the stack trace). Can anyone see anyting I'm missing/doing wrong? If you need any more information just ask. EDIT: I'm practically certain the problem has nothing to do with my router settings. When disabling my port forwarding settings I get a slightly different error: Client exception: java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: (-WAN IP NOT LOCAL IP-); but it appears both on the machine locally connected to the server and on the remote machine. In addition, I got it to work seamlessly when connecting the server straight tho the modem (cutting out the router. I can only conclude the problem is in my router's settings but can't see where (I've checked and double checked the port forwarding page). That's the only answer i can come up with.

• Xdebug: remote debugging won't stop at breakpoints

  I'm having a problem with xdebug not stopping at breakpoints when using remote debugging (everything is fine when running scripts via the command line). It will break at the first line of the program, then exit, not catching any breakpoints. It used to work fine, until I switched over to using MacPorts for Apache and PHP. I've tried re-compiling it serveral times (with several versions), but no dice. I'm using PHP 5.3.1 and Xdebug 2.1.0-beta3 I've also tried at least 3 different debugging programs (MacGDBp, Netbeans and JetBrains Web IDE). • Remoting server forcibly closing client connections in the middle of remote calls

  Hello everyone. I have a system consisting of a server accepting remoting calls from clients with TCP as the underlying transportlayer. It normally works like a charm, but if I increase the no. of clients, the server starts at random to close the TCP connections in the middle of the calls. Not all calls are interrupted this way. That is really unexpected behaviour...
