  I need to compare two binary files and get output in form for every different byte. So if file1.bin is 00 90 00 11 in binary form and file2.bin is 00 91 00 10 I want to get something like 00000001 90 91 00000003 11 10 what is the easiest way to accomplish the goal? Standard tool? Some 3rd party tool? inb4: cmp -l should be killed with fire,it uses decimal system for offsets and octal for bytes. "Consistency for losers" must be cmp's motto.

• WMII Terminal Width of 80 Columns for xterm (colrules)

  I'm trying to get WMII to split horizontally at 80 columns for xterm, but I'm only seeing a way to do this via percentage. It would be nice to be able to set it by something other than percentage for various resolutions, but if I have to deal with that I will. The problem is that even percentages don't work at my resolution (1366x768). 47+47 in /colrules yields 79 characters and 48+48 yields 81 characters. As far as I can tell, there is no decimal system allowed so I could do 47.5 for instance. I came from Ion3 and I'm used to using 80 column terminals, resizable by the keyboard, to get a reasonable cut off point for VIM when I'm coding. I would just settle with using the mouse, but WMII seems to be much more fluid than Ion3, so I would have to do it a LOT, which sounds annoying. Any ideas?

• Is it possible to have non-English regional settings with English day/month names?

  I live in Estonia where most regional settings (number, currency and date formats) differ from those used in English-speaking countries. For instance, decimal symbol is comma, thousands separator is space, date format is day-month-year, etc. However, if I set my regional settings to Estonian, then day and month names are also shown in Estonian everywhere: This is slightly annoying since the language used for the rest of Windows is English and I'd like the day and month names to be consistent with it. Is this possible while still keeping the local regional settings? One workaround I've tried is to set regional settings to, say, English (UK) and then customise them to match Estonian settings, but that messes up alphabetic sorting - accented letters like "ö" and "ä" are no longer distinguished from their non-accented versions, and "z" is sorted as last rather than at its correct position in the Estonian alphabet (between "s" and "t"). OS is Windows 7 Professional, in case that matters. Edit: alternatively, if there's no built-in way to accomplish what I want, is it possible to create a custom set of regional settings (like one can create custom keyboard layouts)?

  In need to find the age in days - months - years in OpenOffice. There is DATEDIF() in Microsoft Excel. You can use it to find the difference in days/months/years between two dates. Age Calculation You can calculate a persons age based on their birthday and todays date. The calculation uses the DATEDIF() function. The DATEDIF() is not documented in Excel 5, 7 or 97, but it is in 2000. (Makes you wonder what else Microsoft forgot to tell us!) Birth date : 01-Jan-60 Years lived : 52 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"y") and the months : 4 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"ym") and the days : 30 =DATEDIF(C8,TODAY(),"md") One can calculate by below formula, but it is cumbersome to calculate months. Another way to calculate age This method gives you an age which may potentially have decimal places representing the months. If the age is 20.5, the .5 represents 6 months. • Microsoft SyncFramework - Sync different tables into one

  Hello, we are trying to get the Microsoft SyncFramework running in our application to synchronize an oracle db with a mobile device. Problem The queries that we need to gather the data on the oracle db take much time (and we haven't found a way to speed them up yet), so we try to split them up in as much portions as possible. One big part of the whole problem is, that we need different information out of one big table, that bloats a query if combined. Unfortunately, the SyncFramework allows only one TableAdapter per SyncTable. Now this is a problem for our application: If we were able to use more than one TableAdapter per SyncTable, we could easily spread the queries in a more efficient way. Using one query per Table which combines all the needed data takes way too much time. Ideas I thought of creating different TableAdapters for each one of the required queries and then merge the resulting datasets afterwards (preferably on the server). This seems to work, but is a rather awkward solution. Does someone of you know a better solution? Or do you have some ideas that could help? Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and is also the Database Server. The other VPC is the domain member and it is the IIS web server, POP/SMTP server and it has WSS 3.0 installed. I created a new site using the GUI in Central Admin page.   I have a three-level multi-nested form in Rails. The setup is like this: Projects have many Milestones, and Milestones have many Notes. The goal is to have everything editable within the page with JavaScript, where we can add multiple new Milestones to a Project within the page, and add new Notes to new and existing Milestones. Everything works as expected, except that when I add new notes to an existing Milestone (new Milestones work fine when adding notes to them), the new notes won't save unless I edit any of the fields that actually belong to the Milestone to mark the form "dirty"/edited. Is there a way to flag the Milestone so that the new Notes that have been added will save?   Hey I'am using a SQLDatasource in combination with a Formview. When I want to insert or update a DateTime that has no value, I always get an error. How do you insert a DateTime null. • How to create a Facebook-App style notifications custom table?

  I want to add a custom table to my iPhone app, that should look and work like the one used in the facebook app showing the notifications. It should contain rows with links in it. The text should be black, while the tap-able parts should appear blue. As a already figured out, labels only have one font, color and so on and you can't mix styles within it, I would have to use different components. The tab-able text parts maybe UIButtons with custom style without any border. I tried different approches to build the custom cell. I used Interface Builder, to layout components, but since the different parts have variable lengths they overlaid each other. I also tried to add instances of UIButton and UILabel as a subview to the cell's contentView as descibed in Apple's tutorial. The problem with this is that: The position and size of the components is fix and set when they get created using "initWithFrame:...". When I insert text data to database, the PHP script replaces all line foldings with the symbol "|" and when the script reads text data from the database, it replaces all special symbols "|" with line folding "\n". I want to restrict text format in the way that it will cut line foldings if there are more than 2 line foldings used in each separating texts. The transaction table in my database has a not null constraint on the OrderId foreign key.   This will probably just be a simple problem and I am just blind or an idiot but I could use some help. So I am going over some basic guides in Rails, reviewing the basics and such for an upcoming exam. One of the guides included was the sort-of-standard getting started guide over at guide.rubyonrails.org. Here is the link if you need it. Also all my code is for my app is from there, so I have no problem releasing any of my code since it should be the same as shown there. I didn't do a copy paste, but I basically was typing with Vim in one half of my screen and the web page in the other half, typing what I see. http://guides.rubyonrails.org/getting_started.html So like I said, I am going along the guide when I noticed past a certain point in the tutorial, I was always getting an error on the site. To find the section of code, just hit Ctrl+f on the page (or whatever you have search/find set to) and enter "accepts_". This should immediately direct you to this chunk of code. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base validates_presence_of :name, :title validates_length_of :title, :minimum => 5 has_many :comments has_many :tags accepts_nested_attributes_for :tags, :allow_destroy => :true , :reject_if => proc { |attrs| attrs.all? { |k, v| v.blank? } } end So I tried putting this in my code. It is in ~/Rails/blog/app/models/post.rb in case you are wondering. However, even after all the other code I put in past that in the guide, hoping I was just missing some line of code that would come up later in the guide. But nothing, same error every time. This is what I get. I do note that they are a bit out of date, but the default Rails install any of the school machines (an environment likely for my exam) is basically 'gem install rails --version 2.2.2' and since they are windows machines, they come with all the normal windows ruby gems that comes with the ruby installer. • MySQL: Creating table with FK error (errno 150)

  I've tried searching on this error and nothing I've found helps me, so I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate and I'm just too dumb to find it. I've created a model with MySQL Workbench and am now attempting to install it to a mysql server. Using File Export Forward Engineer SQL CREATE Script... it outputs a nice big file for me, with all the settings I ask for. I switch over to MySQL GUI Tools (the Query Browser specifically) and load up this script (note that I'm going form one official MySQL tool to another). However, when I try to actually execute this file, I get the same error over and over SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1005 Can't create table './srs_dev/location.frm' (errno: 150) "OK", I say to myself, something is wrong with the location table. So I check out the definition in the output file. So I start to Google this issue and find all kinds of accounts that talk about an error with InnoDB style tables that fail with foreign keys, and the fix is to add "SET FOREIGN_KEY_CHECKS=0;" to the SQL script. Well, as you can see, that's already part of the file that MySQL Workbench spat out. So, my question is then, why is this not working when I'm doing what I think I'm supposed to be doing? • Constructor ambiguous quesiton

  I'm trying to create a simple date class, but I get an error on my main file that says, "call of overloaded Date() is ambiguous." I'm not sure why since I thought as long as I had different parameters for my constructor, I was ok. • Advanced Regex: Smart auto detect and replace URLs with anchor tags

  I've written a regular expression that automatically detects URLs in free text that users enter. This is not such a simple task as it may seem at first. Jeff Atwood writes about it in his post. His regular expression works, but needs extra code after detection is done. I've managed to write a regular expression that does everything in a single go. This is how it looks like (I've broken it down into separate lines to make it more understandable what it does): 1 (?<outer>\()? 2 (?<scheme>http(?<secure>s)?://)? 3 (?<url> 4 (?(scheme) 5 (?:www\.)? 6 | 7 www\. 8 ) 9 [a-z0-9] 10 (?(outer) 11 [-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+(?=\)) 12 | 13 [-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+ 14 ) 15 ) 16 (?<ending>(?(outer)\))) As you may see, I'm using named capture groups (used later in Regex.Replace()) and I've also included some local characters (cšžcd), that allow our localised URLs to be parsed as well. You can easily omit them if you'd like. Anyway. Here's what it does (referring to line numbers): 1 - detects if URL starts with open braces (is contained inside braces) and stores it in "outer" named capture group 2 - checks if it starts with URL scheme also detecting whether scheme is SSL or not 3 - start parsing URL itself (will store it in "url" named capture group) 4-8 - if statement that says: if "sheme" was present then www. part is optional, otherwise mandatory for a string to be a link (so this regular expression detects all strings that start with either http or www) 9 - first character after http:// or www. should be either a letter or a number (this can be extended if you'd like to cover even more links, but I've decided not to because I can't think of a link that would start with some obscure character) 10-14 - if statement that says: if "outer" (braces) was present capture everything up to the last closing braces otherwise capture all 15 - closes the named capture group for URL 16 - if open braces were present, capture closing braces as well and store it in "ending" named capture group First and last line used to have \s* in them as well, so user could also write open braces and put a space inside before pasting link. Anyway. My code that does link replacement with actual anchor HTML elements looks exactly like this: value = Regex.Replace( value, @"(?<outer>\()?(?<scheme>http(?<secure>s)?://)?(?<url>(?(scheme)(?:www\.)?|www\.)[a-z0-9](?(outer)[-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+(?=\))|[-a-z0-9/+&@#/%?=~_()|!:,.;cšžcd]+))(?<ending>(?(outer)\)))", "${outer}<a href=\"http${secure}://${url}\">http${secure}://${url}</a>${ending}", RegexOptions.Compiled | RegexOptions.CultureInvariant | RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); As you can see I'm using named capture groups to replace link with an Anchor tag: "${outer}<a href=\"http${secure}://${url}\">http${secure}://${url}</a>${ending}" I could as well omit the http(s) part in anchor display to make links look friendlier, but for now I decided not to. Question I would like my links to be replaced with shortenings as well. So when user copies a very long link (for instance if they would copy a link from google maps that usually generates long links) I would like to shorten the visible part of the anchor tag. Link would work, but visible part of an anchor tag would be shortened to some number of characters. I could as well append ellipsis at the end of at all possible (and make things even more perfect). Does Regex.Replace() method support replacement notations so that I can still use a single call? Something similar as string.Format() method does when you'd like to format values in string format (decimals, dates etc...).
