    Hey Everyone, I have some experience in AJAX development, mostly on .NET and MooTools. However, I want to learn more and see what others out there thought about the various other options available. I am looking more for advise about the front end. The back end, I will most probably be coding up in .NET using c# and WCF services. Please feel free to provide me as much information as you can. Also I would appreciate any links to resources. List of Options (feel free to add) Write my own Javascript Use a frame work like MooTools, JQuery etc. Which one is better? Use Google Web Toolkit. Am I tying myself to limitations of GWT?   • 3D space game development

    I want to develop a 3D game (sci-fi type with spaceships) which can be played on multiplayer mode and by multiplayer i mean around 10 players for start as it will be a personal testing project and mostly educational. I have been searching for some days about the available languages and engines but i am kinda confused. Since i have been learning Java for my 1st year in I.T university and i have pretty good understanding i thought i would go with the Java language and develop that game on an applet so it could be played on a browser. After going through an applet game tutorial i understood how graphics work on an applet. So.. 1st question: Could an applet carry the burden of a 3D game especially on multiplayer? My thinking: It's a space game so the graphics should not be such a big problem since it wont be that crowded with entities apart from ships, planets and some effects. If the java applet is not the way for my project i would't mind "developing it on desktop"(i mean not making it a browser game). 2nd question: Should i use Unity engine for my purpose(space game)? If not name other language/engine combo.

  • EASY: How does one release memory correctly in the attached C array?

    Hi, I'm just trying to work out why the following code is leaking memory and I have a funny feeling that i'm not releasing the array memory correctly. This is a C function in a wider objective-c app and I'm not native to C... i've tried just using free() on the array, but have a feeling this isn't the whole story...   • PDFtk Password Protection Help

    I am using Ubuntu 11.10 and am looking for a solution to password protect a bunch of pdf files in a directory in batch. I came across PDFtk and it looks like it might do what I need, but I've reviewed the command line PDFtk examples and can't figure out if there is a way to do it in batch without having to individually specify the output file name for every file. I'm hoping a command-line guru can take a look at the PDFtk syntax and tell me if there is some trick / command that will allow me to password protect a directory of pdf files (e.g., *.pdf) and overwrite the existing files using the same name, or consistently rename the individual output files without having to specify each output name individually.     I'm starting a blog and i'm in the process of choosing where should i host it. For now i want a free solution like Blogger or Wordpress.com. The problem i'm facing is that i want to use files i have in a S3 bucket in my blog but none of the blog solutions i found supports any kind of server code, which means that in order to use S3 query string authentication i would have to put vulnerable information in the client. For obvious reasons i don't want to do that. So, i'm looking for ideas on how i can safely include content from S3 in a free blog host.

  • How to Import a .bak file using MySQL?

    I have no knowledge on MySQL and I have received a .bak file from one of my customer and he asked me to "import" this file using MySQL. I installed MysQL Community Server free download which installs MySQL Command Line Client. Now I don't know how to Import this .bak file and can't read the necessary data that I need. I tried installation of MySQL EE free trial as well but it doesn't give me anything that I can invoke the DB GUI so I can import the .bak file either. I'm frustrated now and can't go anywhere.   • How do I force my std::map to deallocate memory used?

    I'm using a std::map, and I can't seem to free the memory back to the OS. It looks like, int main(){ aMap m; while(keepGoing){ while(fillUpMap){ //populate m } doWhatIwantWithMap(m); m.clear(); //flush some buffered values into map for next iteration flushIntoMap(m); } } Each (fillUpmap) allocates around 1gig, so I'm very much interested in getting this back to my system before it eats up all my memory. Ive experienced the same with std::vector, but there I could force it to free by doing a swap with an empty std::vector. This doesn't work with map. When I use valgrind it says that all memory is freed, so its not a problem with a leak, since everything is cleared up nicely after a run.

    Hi, I have a few JAVA application that I monitor using JMX. I would like to write an SNMP client for these applications that wraps the JMX interface and by discovery exposes the same attributes that are exposed in JMX, through SNMP. I have no problem writing the client if I just figure out how to write SNMP clients in JAVA. Is there a free SNMP library for JAVA that I can use? Is there a good free SNMP adapter for JMX? (Tried "WebNMS SNMP Adapter for JMX" trial unsuccessfully) Thank you!

    I'm trying to add a device driver to a Windows CE 6.0 image that I'm creating through Platform Builder. The driver in question, for the VIA 6656 chipset (used in many USB Wi-Fi adapters/dongles), is available in the manufacturer's website and consists of several files: .PDB, .REG, .BIB, .DLL, .MAP and .REL. I understand that the REG file must be imported in my OSDesign.reg, the BIB file to my OSDesign.bib and the DLL must be placed in the /Windows folder of my image. What I don't understand is what to do with the remaining files (PDB, MAP and REL). Could anyone assist me in this matter? Thank you in advance!

    Simple task: Send a windows message with dynamically allocated data, e.g. an arbitrary length string. How would you manage the responsibility to free this data? The receiver(s) of the windows message could be responsible to free this data. But: How can you guarantee that all messages will actually be received and thus the linked data will be freed? Imagine the situation that the receiver is shutting down, so it won't process it's message queue any more. However, the message queue still exists (for some time) and can still accept messages, which won't be processed any more. Thanks!

    I still try to make it possible to run my app with root priveleges. Therefore I created two policies to run the application via pkexec (one for /usr/bin and one for /opt/extras... ) and added them to the setup.py: data_files=[('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/share/polkit-1/actions', ['data/com.ubuntu.extras.pkexec.armorforge.policy']), ('/usr/bin/', ['data/armorforge-pkexec'])] ) additionally I added a startscript which uses pkexec for starting the application. It distinguishes between the two places and is used in the Exec-Statement of the desktopfile: #!/bin/sh if [ -f /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge ]; then pkexec "/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/armorforge/bin/armorforge" "$@" else pkexec `which armorforge` "$@" fi If I simply do a quickly package everything will work right. But if I package with extras option: quickly package --extras the Exec-statement will be exchanged. Even if I try to simulate the pkexec call via armorforge-pkexec It will aks for a password and then returns this: andre@andre-desktop:~/Entwicklung/Ubuntu/armorforge$ armorforge-pkexec (armorforge:10108): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.desktop.interface' is not installed Trace/breakpoint trap (core dumped) So ok, I could not trick the opt-thing. How can I make sure, that my Application will run with root priveleges out of opt. I copied the way of using pkexec from synaptic. My application is for communicating with apparmor which currently has no dbus interface. Else I need to write into /etc/apparmor.d-folder. How should I deal with the opt-build which, as far as I understand, is required to submit my application to the ubuntu software center. Thanks for any hints and/or links :-)

    Hi All, Is there any RIM API available which will help to get the list of available network service or only Wi-Fi networks for a device and set selected network access point for any network communications? Is it possible programmatically to disable the Mobile networks like GPRS, WAP, etc? For Ex: When a application is started it should scan for WiFi connections (even if there are no previous WiFi network access points are set on device) and list the available WiFi connection. Then user will select the appropriate WiFi connection to connect for any network communication. Outside the application any internet communication (like browser or any other application) should done through same selected WiFi connection. The scanning for WiFi and setting the connection is almost similar to Blackberry WiFi Setup. If anyone know how to implement this using available RIM API and let me know its possible or not. Please share if anyone have any code snippet related to this. I am looking for OS v4.5, 4.7, and 5.0. Thanks, siddh.

I worked out the following.... SELECT hotel FROM table WHERE facilties IN(internet, swimming pool, parking) This query selects the hotels that has atleast one among the choices.     Hi. I have a plan to build a web-site which running CGI made with Cocoa. My final goal is develop on Mac OS X, and run on FreeBSD. Is this possible? As I know, there is a free implementation of some NextStep classes, the GNUStep. The web-site is almost built with only strings. I read GNUStep documents, classes are enough. DB connection will be made with C interfaces. Most biggest problem which I'm concerning is linking and binary compatibility. I'm currently configuring FreeBSD on VirtualBox, but I wanna know any possibility informations about this from experts. This is not a production server. Just a trial. Please feel free to saying anything.
