• Silverlight project builds in VS2008 but fails when using MSBuild

  Hi, We have 2 Silverlight projects in the same solution; SLGlobalResource and SLData. SLData references SLGlobalResource (using references add reference projects). When we build it in debug within VS2008, everything builds fine and all is good. But when we build it using: msbuild TheSolution.sln /p:Configuration=Debug /t:rebuild SLData fails with the following error: ViewModels\ImportViewModel.cs : error CS0246: The type of name space "SLGlobalResource" could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) This also happens in TeamCity (I guess because the TeamCity vs2008 runner uses MSBuild) Any ideas? Thanks Edit: There are actually 33 projects in total in the solution. I didn't think this was relevant before but now I'm thinking it could be - could this be a build order thing?

• AudioQueueOfflineRender returning empty data

  I'm having problems using AudioQueueOfflineRender to decode AAC data. When I examine the buffer after the call, it is always filled with empty data. I made sure the input buffer is valid and packet descriptions are provided. I searched and found that a few others have had the same problem: http://lists.apple.com/archives/Coreaudio-api/2008/Jul/msg00119.html Also, the inTimestamp argument doesn't make sense to me. Why should the renderer care where in the audio the beginning of the buffer corresponds to? The function throws an error if I pass in NULL, so I pass in the timestamp anyway.

  I'm trying to get will paginate to link to my nested route instead of the regular posts variable. I know I'm supposed to pass some params to paginate but I don't know how to pass them. Basically there is an array stored in @posts and the other param paginate has access to is category_id. The nested route is /category/1/posts but hitting next and previous on will paginate returns a url like this posts?page=1&category_id=7. <%= will_paginate @most_recent_posts "What do I do here?" %> This is the result of Yannis's answer: In your controller you can do: @posts = @category.posts.paginate And in your view: <%= will_paginate(@post) %> Doing this comes up with the following URL posts?page=2&post_category_id=athlete_management routes.rb #there are more routes but these are the relevant ones map.resources :posts map.resources :post_categories, :has_many => :posts solution map.resources :post_categories do |post_category| post_category.resources :posts end map.resources :posts Had to declare the resource after the block Thanks stephen!

• Which layer should create DataContext?

  I have a problem to decide which layer in my system should create DataContext. I have read a book, saying that if do not pass the same DataContext object for all the database updates, it will sometimes get an exception thrown from the DataContext. That's why i initially create new instance of DataContext in business layer, and pass it into data access layer. So that the same datacontext is used for all the updates. But this lead to one design problem, if i wanna change my DAL to Non-LinqToSQL in future, i need to re-write the code in business layer as well. Please give me some advice on this. Thanks. • Using MS Moles with datacontext and stored procedures without using a Connection string.

  I have just begun to work with MS Moles for testing and I have followed the idea/pattern in which jcollum(thanks) uses a Mole for a table in this stackoverflow question here. But I am having a problem as I do not want to have to pass a connection string when I use the datasource as such: using (TheDataContext dataContext = new TheDataContext(myConnectionString)) { dataContext.ExecuteStoredprocedure(value, ref ValueExists); } I really like the fact that I just need to mole the table and everything else is done for me. I realize I could just mole the ExecuteStoredProcedure method, but I am wondering if I could just somehow avoid the sql exception I am getting here when I do not pass in the connection string. Or, if I there is a better way to do this? Therefore, does anyone have a solution so that I can avoid placing in the connection string? Thanks in advance.

• Regex question: Why isn't this matching?

  I have the following regex: (?<=\.\d+?)0+(?=\D|$) I'm running it against a string which contains the following: SVC~NU^0270~313.3~329.18~~10~~6.00: When it runs, it matches the 6.00 (correctly) which my logic then trims by one zero to turn into 6.0. The regex then runs again (or should) but fails to pick up the 6.0. I'm by no means an expert on Regex, but my understanding of my expression is that it's looking for a decimal with 1 or more optional (so, really zero or more) digits prior to one or more zeros which are then followed by any non-digit character or the line break. Assuming that interpretation is correct, I can't see why it wouldn't match on the second pass. For that matter, I'm not sure why my Regex.Replace isn't matching the full 6.00 on the first pass and removing both of the trailing zeros... Any suggestions?

• Django comparing model instances for equality

  I understand that, with a singleton situation, you can perform such an operation as: spam == eggs and if spam and eggs are instances of the same class with all the same attribute values, it will return True. In a Django model, this is natural because two separate instances of a model won't ever be the same unless they have the same .pk value. The problem with this is that if a reference to an instance has attributes that have been updated by middleware somewhere along the way and it hasn't been saved, and you're trying to it to another variable holding a reference to an instance of the same model, it will return False of course because they have different values for some of the attributes. Obviously I don't need something like a singleton , but I'm wondering if there some official Djangonic (ha, a new word) method for checking this, or if I should simply check that the .pk value is the same with: spam.pk == eggs.pk I'm sorry if this was a huge waste of time, but it just seems like there might be a method for doing this, and something I'm missing that I'll regret down the road if I don't find it.

• How can I block based on URL (from address bar) in a safari extension

  I'm trying to write an extension that will block access to (configurable) list of URLs if they are accessed more than N times per hour. From what I understand, I need to have a start script pass a "should I load this" message to a global HTML page (who can access the settings object to get the list of URLs), who will give a thumbs up/thumbs down message back to the start script to deny/allow loading. That works out fine for me, but when I use the usual beforeLoad/canLoad handlers, I get messages for all the sub-items that need to be loaded (images/etc..), which screws up the #accesses/hour limit I'm trying to make. Is there a way to synchronously pass messages back and forth between the two sandboxes so I can tell the global HTML page, "this is the URL in the window bar and the timestamp for when this request came in", so I can limit duplicate requests? Currently, I get the atom feed and then get as many emails as the feed has with the OpenPOP client (starting from the first).   When I use some of php's encryption functions, I end up getting a few characters I don't want (+, /, =). The problem is that my application doesn't allow these in the url. I'm wondering if there's a good way of encrypting an integer and having only alphanumeric characters in the result? I'm trying to pass some data through the url. I know it's possible to do some workarounds (put data in database and pass the id to the row or something), but I really want to try it this way. Ideas?

  I am using ELMAH to log unhandled exceptions in an ASP.NET Webforms application. Logging is working fine. I want to pass the ELMAH error log id to a custom error page that will give the user the ability to email an administrator about the error. I have followed the advice from this answer. Here is my global.asax code: void ErrorLog_Logged(object sender, ErrorLoggedEventArgs args) { Session[StateKeys.ElmahLogId] = args.Entry.Id; // this doesn't work either: // HttpContext.Current.Items[StateKeys.ElmahLogId] = args.Entry.Id; } But, on the Custom error page, the session variable reference and HttpContext.Current.Items are giving me a NullReference exception.   I've got an issue with JavaScript intellisense in Visual Web Developer 2008, which I'm starting to believe is "just one of those things", but thought I'd ask here just to check. I have a file MyOtherFile.js with a function GetRandomNumber() defined like so: function GetRandomNumber() { /// <summary> /// Summary description for GetRandomNumber /// </summary> return Math.random(); } When I reference this from another file, screen.js (/// <reference path="MyOtherFile.js" />) I get the intellisense as expected with the summary text as above. If, however, I call the function GetRandomNumber from within its own file (MyOtherFile.js) then I don't get the sumamry description. Any thoughts? Thanks.

• Custom Windows Forms Control not exporting functions, not showing in tools list, showing as Text

  Hi, I have written a very simple control. C# Visual Studio 2008. Its output should be, and is a dll. I have added a reference to the dll within the project that I intend to use it with. The msdn article about how to write a control states that it should appear in the 'Add reference / projects' list, which it doesn't but I simply navigated to it under the 'browse' tab, went to the /bin folder and added the reference that way. I dragged it over to my toolbox, but it shows up as a 'Text:xhair_tool' and when i try and add it to a form, it won't, so what have I done wrong? It was created as a 'Windows forms control' project. • Is there any way, short of "copy and paste inheritence" to share a .net class with a Silverlight app

  I have a project in two parts: a Silverlight front end and a WCF duplex service. Ideally, I would like to pass a message of a custom type (call it TradeOffer) from the WCF service to be consumed by the Silverlight application. When I try to, I get an error that indicates I can't pass an object of an unknown type across the wire like that and that, maybe, I could do so if I used the InternalsVisibleTo attribute on the server component. I'm not sure if that would work in this environment and know it would be messy in development. I originally put the message definition in a library to be used by both the service and the client, but couldn't add a reference to the library from the Silverlight client (because it's not a Silverlight assembly.) Is there some way I can access the definition of a message class from both the Silverlight client that consumes it and the service that publishes it without using the InternalsVisibleTo attribute or should I write the application another way?

• Smart pointers and polymorphism

  hello. I implemented reference counting pointers (called SP in the example) and im having problems with polymorphism which i think i shouldn't have. In the following code: SP<BaseClass> foo() { // Some logic... SP<DerivedClass> retPtr = new DerivedClass(); return retPtr; } DerivedClass inherits from BaseClass. With normal pointers this should have worked, but with the smart pointers it says "cannot convert from 'SP<T>' to 'const SP<T>&" and i think it refers to the copy constructor of the smart pointer. How to i allow this kind of polymorphism with reference counting pointer? I'd appreciate code samples cause obviously im doing something wrong here if im having this problem. Thanks! :) [p.s., plz don't tell me to use standart liberary with smart pointers cuz that's impossible at this moment.]

  I have created a blog application using Ruby on Rails which includes the ability to vote on posts. A user can click vote and a record is created in the vote table. I am now trying to limit that same person from voting for a post multiple times. class Post has_many :votes end class Vote belongs_to :post end When a vote record is created I am using the VotesController to pass the :post_id and using a hidden field in the view to pass the ip_address (both to the vote table). I am wondering if there is a way to add a validation to the Vote Model that searches to see if a post_id has an ip_address that matches the person requesting to vote. I have tried simply using the validates_uniqueness_of :ip_address but that restricts the user from voting on any post. I just want to restrict the user from voting on a particular post that they have already voted on. Is there a way to do this through validation?

• Getting a char array from a vector<int>?

  I am trying to pass a value from C++ to TCL. As I cannot pass pointers without the use of some complicated modules, I was thinking of converting a vector to a char array and then passing this as a null terminated string (which is relatively easy). I have a vector as follows: 12, 32, 42, 84 which I want to convert into something like: "12 32 42 48" The approach I am thinking of is to use an iterator to iterate through the vector and then convert each integer into its string representation and then add it into a char array (which is dynamically created initially by passing the size of the vector). Is this the right way or is there a function that already does this?

This works as intended. My problem is that I now want to turn this single form into a formset. What I can't figure out is how I can pass the affiliate information to the individual forms when creating the formset. According to the docs to make a formset out of this I need to do something like this: ServiceFormSet = forms.formsets.formset_factory(ServiceForm, extra=3) And then I need to create it like this: formset = ServiceFormSet() Now how can I pass affiliate=request.affiliate to the individual forms this way?

  Basic problem statement: I have a very good reason for doing some pointer fanciness in an app where I need to pass a decimal by reference. So I have a class which stores many a decimal, so let's say is has a property as such: @property (nonatomic) double myDecimalValue; I want to pass it by reference to some other class. [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:&myDecimalValue]; But, a problem emerges! The way that actually has to be written (because it's a property) is [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:&decimalOrigin.myDecimalValue]; This fails to compile in objective-c I get around it by writing the following - (double *) myDecimalValueRef; [someOtherObject sendMyDecimalByReference:[decimalOrigin myDecimalValue]]; Except I have dozens of these decimals and I don't want to write that stupid wrapper function for every value. Is there a shorthand way to do this in Objective-C using just the Getter functions? Let's just assume I have a great reason for not using NSNumber. Thanks!
