• Git checking out problem [fatal: early EOFs]

  Dear all, I'm running a Ubuntu (9.10) server with Git (latest from Ubuntu package manager) installed. Access to the Git is via SSH. On windows machines, I'm using Cygwin to push/pull code. I can push my project code onto the server but when I do a clone or pull, it returns a [fatal: early EOFs] error at about 75-80%. Upon further investigation, it seems like textual data has no issue when pulled/cloned but when the jar files and images are pulled from Git, the error will occur. Any suggestion/advice that can help to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

• Mercurial clone operation works, but I don't have write access

  Somewhere I did something silly. I was deploying my Rails app via cloning the Mercurial repo down onto my Ubuntu server. It worked the first time, and then...well, I made a small change on my dev machine, pushed the changes to the repo, and then deleted the copy on the Ubuntu server and re-cloned from the repo. The clone operation (the second, and third, and 'n' times) works without error, but I don't have write access to the files that were cloned. When I try to startup my mongrel - it can't create the /tmp folder, and because of no write access, fails to start the Rails app.

• write() in sys/uio.h returns -1

  I'm using Ubuntu Server 9.10 AMD Phenom 2 cpu g++ (Ubuntu 4.4.1-4ubuntu9) 4.4.1 trying to run the application pftp-shit v 1.11. The following code in tcp.cc is executed successfully: int outfile_fd = open(name, O_CREAT | O_TRUNC | O_RDWR | O_BINARY)) which returns a file descriptor int (in my case 6) - name is a char array containing a valid path to my file which successfully i created. and successfully running: fchmod(outfile_fd, S_IRUSR | S_IWUSR); and access(name, W_OK) The issue occurs during running the function (from sys/uio.h) write(outfile_fd, this-control_buffer, read_length) which returns -1. -1 is of returned if nothing was written and otherwise a non-negative integer is returned which is equal to the number of bytes written. Anyone having a clue how I can get the write function to work?

So I though I need to enable local connections in pg_hba.conf, which I cant find. So I created a new file as sudo vim /etc/postgresql/8.4/main/pg_hba.conf With values local all all ident But I still cant login after restarting the service. What are next steps for me to take.

• Installing rtorrent on my ubuntu server

  Hello, I am try to install rtorrent on my ubuntu server. • pptpd not working externally on Ubuntu Server 11.10

  I am trying to set up a pptpd vpn on our newly installed Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit server, but am not having success having a client connect via an iPhone to the VPN. Note that no clients have been able to connect to this VPN from outside of the network. The system is up to date with patches. Here is the output of /var/log/syslog. Please note that 222.153.x.y is my remote IP address. Here is the output from /etc/iptables.rules.save *filter :FORWARD ACCEPT [0:0] :INPUT ACCEPT [0:0] :OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0] COMMIT Even with these rules applied, the output from /var/log/syslog is LINE FOR LINE what I saw in the the first block of code. Please note that before running this Ubuntu server; an old SME Server box was running in place of it, that had a pptpd server on it just like we are using, and we experienced no issues.

  I have a powered 7 port hub connected to my Ubuntu box and it does nothing. The devices (zip drive and web cam) work direct, but aren't recognized through the hub. This worked fine in Windows 7. I can't prove it is the OS because this is a new motherboard and processor. Any advice?   I had a problem with my Ubuntu 12.04 waking up immediately after going into suspend. I solved the problem by changing the settings in /proc/acpi/wakeup, as suggested in this question: How do I prevent immediate wake up from suspend?. After changing the settings, the system goes flawlessly into suspend and stays suspended, but after I wake it back up, the settings in /proc/acpi/wakeup are different from what I set them to. Unfortunately it did not solve my problem. all of /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb1/power/wakeup /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb2/power/wakeup /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb3/power/wakeup /sys/bus/usb/devices/usb4/power/wakeup as well as /sys/bus/usb/devices/3-1/power/wakeup are set to disabled, and the notebook still wakes up by itself right after going to sleep. The only thing it seems to react to are the settings in /proc/acpi/wakeup, which keep changing (resetting) every time i power off/restart my notebook.

• How can a usb be detected but not show up anywhere?

  I started the morning by trying to create a bootable usb using a 2gb stick and the startup disk creator. It seemed to run through the whole process just fine until it got to a screen that read something like "Creating memory partion" and which sat on 100% for about 45 minutes before I hit cancel and removed the usb stick. Now the usb stick is not being detected as storage or...anything (even on my windows pc) though it does show up in the syslog. Allow me to demonstrate. • Ubuntu hardware wireless switch has no effect after suspend and 13.10 upgrade

For now the "/content/~/Ubuntu One/" is hardcoded, but I checked and it is the location of my root volume. Is there anything that I'm missing? UbuntuOneClients.FilesClient() starts the url with "https://files.one.ubuntu.com" UbuntuOneRequests.BaseRequest(Method.{}) is the same requests that I use to send my Quota and Volumes requests, basically just provides all of the parameters needed to authenticate.   How do I achieve the equivalent of nc -q in Redhat 5? Details? nc -q -1 local host ${PORT} ${CMD} In Ubuntu, nc may be use as above, with the -q option. See manpage. -q after EOF on stdin, wait the specified number of seconds and then quit. If seconds is negative, wait forever. However, this option is not available in Redhat 5. See manpage.   Question: What steps can I take to make a touchpad that once worked, work again. Info: I'm running ubuntu desktop on my net book. it has been working more or less fine. There have been some minor issues. but nothing to bad. recently I was messing around with burning a mandriva .iso, and suddenly my touch pad just stops working. every now and then it will work for a brief moment after I bring back from sleep mode. The computer says that there is a touch pad and that it is active. any tips?

• SOLVED: network issue ubuntu 8.04 in vmware esx

  ok, this is really pissing me off I have one ubuntu 8.04 instance running on vmware (esx) which decided after a reboot to stop resolving dns requests, I also cant connect to it using ssh although I can ping the server and its really that server (when I shutdown the server the ping also stops) stuff I tried: - reboot again :) - nslookup - serverip - setting networking to dhcp - offering some cute kittens to lucifer - removing the virtual nic and adding another (to get a different mac) - migrating the instance to another esx host - drinking 20 cups of espresso - stopped all services - running dnsmasq on another server and connecting to that dns - tcpdumping - disabling ip6 symptoms: cant resolve anything nslookup just says "no servers found..." although I can ping the servers traceroute to gateway doesnt work (even with traceroute -4 -n gatewayip) collegues laughing at me any thoughts solved it: a collegue told me to upgrade/reinstall the vmware tools, I did and it solved my issue after rebooting

• Files missing after copying from one sdcard to another using Ubuntu 12.04

  I have two Kingston sdcards 8GB and 32GB. The 8GB for HTC Sensation and 32GB for my Tablet (Chinese). I soon ran out of space on my phone and decided to swap the data between the sdcards. I copied the data of 32GB sdcard to my PC(with Ubuntu 12.04) deleted everything on the 32GB sdcard and copied data from the 8GB sdcard to the other sdcard. At last I copied the data from my PC to the 8GB sdcard(before this I deleted everything that was on it before). Now the problem is that the 8GB sdcard has the data exactly the same, but the 32GB sdcard has some missing data. All my photos(not copied or posted on Facebook) and Songs are lost. Please help as to what I can do to get my data back? I have Android Revolution HD (ICS 4.0.3) on my rooted HTC Sensation (India). I suspect it has something to do with my data loss.
