perl dynamic path given to 'use lib'

So, my code (Perl scripts and Perl modules) sits in a tree like this: trunk/ util/ process/ scripts/ The 'util' directory has, well, utilities, that things in the 'process/' dir need. They get access like this: use FindBin; use lib "$FindBin::Bin/../util"; use UtilityModule qw(all); That construct doesn't care where you start, as long as you're at the same level in the tree as "util/". But I decided that 'scripts/' was getting too crowded, so I created scripts/scripts1 scripts/scripts2 Now I see that this doesn't work. If I run a script 'trunk/scripts/scripts1/call_script.pl', and it calls '/trunk/process/process_script.pl', then 'process_script.pl' will fail trying to get the routines from UtilityModule(), because the path that FindBin returns is the path of the top-level calling script. The first ten ways I thought of to solve this all involved something like: use lib $path_that_came_from_elsewhere; but that seems to be something Perl doesn't like to do, except via that FindBin trick. I tried some things involving BEGIN{} blocks, but i don't really know what I'm doing there, and will likely just end up refactoring. But if someone has some clever insight into this type of problem, this would be a good chance to earn some points!

CSS semantics; selecting elements directly or via order

Perhaps this question has been asked elsewhere, but I'm unable to find it. With HTML5 and CSS3 modules inching closer, I'm getting interested in a discussion about the way we write CSS. Something like this where selection is done via element order and type is particularly fascinating. The big advantage to this method seems to be complete modularization of HTML and CSS to make tweaks and redesigns simpler. At the same time, semantic IDs and classes seem advantageous for sundry reasons. Particularly, direct linking, JS targeting, and shorter CSS selectors. Also, it seems selector length might be an issue. For instance, I just wrote the following, which would be admittedly easier using some semantic HTML5 elements: body>div:nth-child(2)>div:nth-child(2)>ul:nth-child(2)>li:last-child So what say you, Stack Overflow? Is the future of CSS writing focused on element order and type? Or are IDs and classes and the current ways here to stay? (I'm well aware the IDs and classes have their place, although I am interested to hear more ways you think they'll continue to be necessary. The discussion I'm interested in is bigger-picture and the ways writing CSS is changing.)

What does stdole.dll do?

We have a large C# (.net 2.0) app which uses our own C++ COM component and a 3rd party fingerprint scanner library also accessed via COM. We ran into an issue where in production some events from the fingerprint library do not get fired into the C# app, although events from our own C++ COM component fired and were received just fine. Using MSINFO32 to compare the loaded modules on a working system to those on a failing system we determined that this was caused by STDOLE.DLL not being in the GAC and hence not loaded into the faulty process. Dragging this file into the GAC caused events to come back fine from the fingerprint COM library. So what does stdole.dll do? It's 16k in size so it can't be much... is it some sort of link to another library like STDOLE32? How come its absence causes such odd behavior? How do we distribute stdole.dll? This is an XCOPY deploy app and we don't use the GAC. Should we package it as a resource and use the System.EnterpriseServices.Internal.Publish.GacInstall to ensure it's in the GAC?

Bundle a Python app as a single file to support add-ons or extensions?

It is, of course, a daunting question how users on platforms like Windows would most easily install plugins or addons in such a way that my app can easily discover that they have been installed. But beyond that basic question is another: how can a third-party developer bundle their extension with whatever libraries the extension itself needs (which might be binary modules, like lxml) in such a way that the plugin's dependencies become available for import at the same time that the plugin becomes available. How can this be approached? Will my application need its own plug-in area on disk and its own plug-in registry to make this tractable? Or are there general mechanisms, that I could avoid writing myself, that would allow an app that is distributed as a single executable to look around and find plugins that are also installed as single files?

Accessing a class's containing namespace from within a module

I'm working on a module that, among other things, will add some generic 'finder' type functionality to the class you mix it into. The problem: for reasons of convenience and aesthetics, I want to include some functionality outside the class, in the same scope as the class itself. For example: class User include MyMagicMixin end # Should automagically enable: User.name('Bob') # Returns first user named Bob Users.name('Bob') # Returns ALL users named Bob User(5) # Returns the user with an ID of 5 Users # Returns all users I can do the functionality within these methods, no problem. And case 1 (User.name('Bob')) is easy. Cases 2–4, however, require being able to create new classes and methods outside User. The Module.included method gives me access to the class, but not to its containing scope. There is no simple "parent" type method that I can see on Class nor Module. (For namespace, I mean, not superclass nor nested modules.) The best way I can think to do this is with some string parsing on the class's #name to break out its namespace, and then turn the string back into a constant. But that seems clumsy, and given that this is Ruby, I feel like there should be a more elegant way. Does anyone have ideas? Or am I just being too clever for my own good?

Help me create a Firefox extension (Javascript XPCOM Component)

I've been looking at different tutorials and I know I'm close but I'm getting lost in implementation details because some of them are a little bit dated and a few things have changed since Firefox 3. I have already written the javascript for the firefox extension, now I need to make it into an XPCOM component. This is the functionality that I need: My Javascript file is simple, I have two functions startServer() and stopServer. I need to run startServer() when the browser starts and stopServer() when firefox quits. Edit: I've updated my code with a working solution (thanks to Neil). FileNotFoundException, although the XML file should be deployed

Hi, I've got problems starting my WAR application on a local JBoss. Using perl to split a line that may contain whitespace

Okay, so I'm using perl to read in a file that contains some general configuration data. This data is organized into headers based on what they mean. An example follows: [vars] # This is how we define a variable! $var = 10; $str = "Hello thar!"; # This section contains flags which can be used to modify module behavior # All modules read this file and if they understand any of the flags, use them [flags] Verbose = true; # Notice the errant whitespace! [path] WinPath = default; # Keyword which loads the standard PATH as defined by the operating system. Append with additonal values. LinuxPath = default; Goal: Using the first line as an example "$var = 10;", I'd like to use the split function in perl to create an array that contains the characters "$var" and "10" as elements. Using another line as an example: Verbose = true; # Should become [Verbose, true] aka no whitespace is present This is needed because I will be outputting these values to a new file (which a different piece of C++ code will read) to instantiate dictionary objects. Just to give you a little taste of what it might look like (just making it up as I go along): define new dictionary name: [flags] # Start defining keys => values new key name: Verbose new value val: 10 # End dictionary Oh, and here is the code I currently have along with what it is doing (incorrectly): sub makeref($) { my @line = (split (/=/)); # Produces ["Verbose", " true"]; }

Debug Symbols not loading

I am trying to enable visual studio to step through the .net framework source code when I am debugging. I have tried with both Visual Web-Developer-Express-2010 and Visual-Studio-2011-Express-For-Web and I am getting the same problem with each. When I get to the break point at the .net method I wish to step into I do right-clickstep-into-specificclick-method-to-step-into. Then VS opens a new tab. saying it couldn't find or load the symbols. It gives a list of the assembly symbols it looked for. There is also a 'Load Symbols hyperlink which doesn't work. And another hyperlink that takes me to the debug settings dialog. I have read tutorials on how to set it up and have believe I have the correct settings. In the debugging general settings I have - enable address-level debugging - checked enable source server support - checked enable .net framework source stepping - checked enable just my code - not checked In the debugging symbol settings I have - symbol file (.pdb) locations - Microsoft Symbol Servers - checked Caching Directory - C:\Users\MyAccount\AppData\Local\Temp\SymbolCache Automatically load symbols for: all modules unless excluded - checked Why is it not working? How do I stop cpan from reconfiguring each time? + More

I'm running on a Mac (version 10.6.3) and am struggling to understand what is going on with my Perl installation. I let the system do a copy from my previous mac, and I appear to have a second perl installed, which appears earlier in my path. I can't tell (or remember) if I might have installed it with fink, macports or CPAN or what. type -a cpan cpan is /opt/local/bin/cpan cpan is /usr/bin/cpan I'm seeing two oddities. (To start with!) When I run cpan, and let it configure in ~lcuff/.cpan, each time I run it, it wants to reconfigure, giving the message: Sorry, we have to rerun the configuration dialog for CPAN.pm due to some missing parameters... Also, when I try to install File::Find::Rule (so I can list my CPAN modules, per the FAQ) I end up with an error message that I can't decipher or Google a solution for: Use of inherited AUTOLOAD for non-method Digest::SHA::shaopen() is deprecated at /opt/local/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.9/darwin-2level/Digest/SHA.pm line 55. Mysqli query only works on localhost, not webserver

Hello. I have changed some of my old queries to the Mysqli framework to improve performance. Everything works fine on localhost but when i upload it to the webserver it outputs nothing. After connecting I check for errors and there are none. I also checked the php modules installed and mysqli is enabled. I am certain that it creates a connection to the database as no errors are displayed. (when i changed the database name string it gave the error) There is no output from the query on the webserver, which looks like this: $mysqli = new mysqli("server", "user", "password"); if (mysqli_connect_errno()) { printf("Can't connect Errorcode: %s\n", mysqli_connect_error()); exit; } // Query used $query = "SELECT name FROM users WHERE id = ?"; if ($stmt = $mysqli->prepare("$query")) { // Specify parameters to replace '?' $stmt->bind_param("d", $id); $stmt->execute(); // bind variables to prepared statement $stmt->bind_result($_userName); while ($stmt->fetch()) { echo $_userName; } $stmt-close(); } } //close connection $mysqli-close(); As I said this code works perfectly on my localserver just not online. Checked the error logs and there is nothing so everything points to a good connection. All the tables exists as well etc. Anyone any ideas because this one has me stuck! Also, if i get this working, will all my other queries still work? Or will i need to make them use the mysqli framework as well? Thanks in advance.

Why isn't module_filters filtering Mail::IspMailGate in CPAN::Mini?

Edited - Ummm - now have a module in schwigon giving same problem !! I am on a corporate PC that forces mcshield on everything that moves. I get blocked when trying to mirror on ... authors/id/J/JV/JV/EekBoek-2.00.01.tar.gz ... updated authors/id/J/JV/JV/CHECKSUMS ... updated Could not stat tmpfile '/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz-4712': No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10/LWP/UserAgent.pm line 851. authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz At this point, I get the Virus scanner mcshield sticking its Awr in. To maintain my mirror I execute:- #!/usr/bin/perl CPAN::Mini->update_mirror( remote => "http://mirror.eunet.fi/CPAN", local => "/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/", trace => 1, errors => 1, module_filters => [ qr/kjkjhkjhkjkj/i, qr/clamav/i, qr/ispmailgate/i, qr/IspMailGate/, qr/Mail-IspMailGate/, qr/mail-ispmailgate/i, ], path_filters => [ qr/ZZYYZZ/, #qr/WIED/, #qr/RJBS/, ] ); It skips OK if I enable the path_filter WIED. Just cannot get it to skip the module failing module to complete other WIED modules. Any ideas?

What's the best way to develop a debugging window for an ajax ASP.Net MVC application

While developing my ASP.NET MVC, I have started to see the need for a debugging console window to assist in figuring out what is going right and wrong in my code. I read the last few chapters of the Pro Asp.net MVC book, and the author details how to use http modules to show page load/creation times and linq to sql query logs, both of which I definitely want to be able to see. However, since I am loading a lot of small sections of my page individually with ajax I don't want the debug information right there in the middle of my screen. So the idea I came up with was to have a separate browser window (open-able by a link or some javascript) with a console log, that can contain logged entries both from javascript and from the asp.net mvc run. The former should be relatively easy, but I'm having trouble coming up with a way to log the asp.net information in ajax requests. The direction I have been thinking of going is to create an httpmodule (like the Pro MVC book does), and have that module contain some that append the javascript's log to console calls with the messages. The issue I see with this is finding a way to get the log messages from the controller's action methods to the httpmodule's methods. The only way I see to do this is with a singleton, but I'm not sure if singletons are bad practice for a stateless web application. Furthermore, it seems like if I return json with my ajax calls (instead of pure html) then that won't work at all anyways and unless there is a way to add data to an existing json structure inside the httpmodule. How does everyone else handle this type of debugging in heavily ajax applications? For reference, the javascript library I am using is jquery.

Getting svn: E170000: Unrecognized URL scheme for my custom Svn Gradle plugin

I wrote a custom gradle plugin using groovy to do basic svn tasks like, Checkout, Clean, Tag etc. The groovy class calls the svn command line client to do these operations, It works fine when i run it on my windows system but the same plugin gives the following error when i run it on a linux system (Centos). svn: E170000: Unrecognized URL scheme for '%22https://source.mycompany.net/svn/MyProject/trunk%22' Am able to make the same calls to the command line client through the command prompt or shell script without any issues. security negotiation with the remote endpoint has failed. This may be due to absent or incorrectly specified EndpointIdentity in the EndpointAddress used to create the channel. Please verify the EndpointIdentity specified or implied by the EndpointAddress correctly identifies the remote endpoint. Configure WebLogic MDB to listen to Foreing AMQ Server

I'm trying to create an MDB(EJB 3.0) on WebLogic 10.3.5. to listen to a Queue in an external AMQ server. but after much work and combination of tutorials i get the followin error when deployin on WwebLogic. [EJB:015027]The Message-Driven EJB is transactional but JMS connection factory referenced by the JNDI name: ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory is not a JMS XA connection factory. Here is a brief of the work i have done: I have added the corresponding libraries to my WLS classpath (following thos tuturial http://amadei.com.br/blog/index.php/connecting-weblogic-and-activemq) and I have created the corresponding JMS Modules as indicated in the tutorial. As connection factory I have used ActiveMQConnectionFactory initially and ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory later, I also ignome the jms. notation an just put plain names as testQueue. Then create a simple MDB whit the following structure. I explicitly defined "connectionFactoryJndiName" property because otherwise it assumes a WebLogic connection factory which is not found an then raises an error. @MessageDriven( activationConfig = { @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destination", propertyValue = "testQueue"), @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "connectionFactoryJndiName", propertyValue = "ActiveMQXAConnectionFactory") }, mappedName = "testQueue") public class ROMELReceiver implements MessageListener { /** * Default constructor. */ public ROMELReceiver() { // TODO Auto-generated constructor stub } /** * @see MessageListener#onMessage(Message) */ public void onMessage(Message message) { System.out.println("Message received"); } } At this point I'm stuck with the error mentioned above. How do I begin reading source code?

I understand the value of reading source code, and I am trying my best to read as much as I can. However, every time I try getting into a 'large' (i.e. complete) project of sorts, I am overwhelmed. For example, I use Anki a lot when revising languages. Also, I'm interested in getting to know how an audio player works (because I have some project ideas), hence quodlibet on Google Code. But whenever I open the source code folders for the above programs, there are just so many files that I don't know where or what to begin with. I think that I should start with files marked init.py but I can't see the logical structure of the programs, or what reasoning was applied when the original writer divided his modules the way he did. Hence, my questions: How/where should I begin reading source? Any general tips or ideas? How does a programmer keep in mind the overall structure and logic of the program, especially for large projects, and is it common not to document that structure? As an open source reader, must I look through all of the code and get a bird's eye view of the code and libraries, before even being able to proceed? Would an IDE like Eclipse SDK (with PyDev) help with code-reading? Thanks for the help; I really appreciate your helping me.

gwt maven war plugin configuration problem

I am developing a gwt application in maven. In this I am using maven war plugin. Everything works fine. When I give mvn install command it builds abc.war file in target folder. But it is not copying compiled javascript files ("module1" and "module2" directories present in target) to war directory. I want to get newly compiled javascript files in war directory. Why isn't module_filters filetering Mail::IspMailGate in CPAN::Mini?

Edited - Ummm - now have a module in schwigon giving same problem !! I am on a corporate PC that forces mcshield on everything that moves. I get blocked when trying to mirror on ... authors/id/J/JV/JV/EekBoek-2.00.01.tar.gz ... updated authors/id/J/JV/JV/CHECKSUMS ... updated Could not stat tmpfile '/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz-4712': No such file or directory at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.10/LWP/UserAgent.pm line 851. authors/id/J/JW/JWIED/Mail-IspMailGate-1.1013.tar.gz At this point, I get the Virus scanner mcshield sticking its Awr in. To maintain my mirror I execute:- #!/usr/bin/perl CPAN::Mini->update_mirror( remote => "http://mirror.eunet.fi/CPAN", local => "/cygdrive/t/cpan_mirror/", trace => 1, errors => 1, module_filters => [ qr/kjkjhkjhkjkj/i, qr/clamav/i, qr/ispmailgate/i, qr/IspMailGate/, qr/Mail-IspMailGate/, qr/mail-ispmailgate/i, ], path_filters => [ qr/ZZYYZZ/, #qr/WIED/, #qr/RJBS/, ] ); It skips OK if I enable the path_filter WIED. I've followed some tutorials on how to use Mod_Rewrite, but it's not working out. Integrating Magento with SAP ECC 6.0 Backend

I'm a freshly graduated (read: inexperienced) developer who's been tasked with determining the feasibility of integrating Magento with an SAP-based backend. No developer at our company has any experience working with either SAP or Magento, so I was hoping that the Stack Overflow community may be able to point me in the right direction with my research. We're a small company (four full-time developers) and the timeline on this project would be tight, so I'm trying to gather as much information as possible. The client has a tiered pricing structure, tax calculation logic, promotional deals, and automatic freight determination all implemented in an SAP ECC 6.0 system. They would like to migrate all their online stores over to Magento while continuing to utilize all existing functionality in SAP. The idea is to accomplish this by overriding certain modules in Magento to place remote calls to SAP BAPIs. I've investigated SAPRFC, which looks promising but relatively stale in terms of update frequency. Do any developers have experience using SAPRFC with SAP ECC 6.0 (with or without Magento integration)? If so, what were your experiences, and what were the biggest risk factors involved? Any comments, suggestions, or links to resources would be greatly appreciated.

Getting a "No default module defined for this application" exception while running controller unit t

I have an application with the default directory structure, for an application without custom modules (see structure figure at the end). I have written a ControllerTestCase.php file as instructed in many tutorials, and I've created the appropriate bootstrap file as well (once again, see figures at the end). I've written some model tests which run just fine, but when I started writing the index controller test file, with only one test in it, with only one line in it ("$this-dispatch('/');"), I'm getting the following exception when running phpunit (but navigating with the browser to the same location - all is good and working): 1) IndexControllerTest::test_indexAction_noParams Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application Why is this ? Handling incremental Data Modeling Changes in Functional Programming

Most of the problems I have to solve in my job as a developer have to do with data modeling. For example in a OOP Web Application world I often have to change the data properties that are in a object to meet new requirements. If I'm lucky I don't even need to programmatically add new "behavior" code (functions,methods). Instead I can declarative add validation and even UI options by annotating the property (Java). In Functional Programming it seems that adding new data properties requires lots of code changes because of pattern matching and data constructors (Haskell, ML). How do I minimize this problem? This seems to be a recognized problem as Xavier Leroy states nicely on page 24 of "Objects and Classes vs. Modules" - To summarize for those that don't have a PostScript viewer it basically says FP languages are better than OOP languages for adding new behavior over data objects but OOP languages are better for adding new data objects/properties. Are there any design pattern used in FP languages to help mitigate this problem? I have read Phillip Wadler's recommendation of using Monads to help this modularity problem but I'm not sure I understand how?

After rewrite Model sales/order_collection it works except in Admin section, why?

Hi, I rewrite the sales/order_collection Model or, perhaps, correctly said the Resource. I did that to add filter that filters orders by store_ids. It returns # of orders also when i run it inside any of my created modules, but not in Admin section then it returns 0 orders In Admin section the same line is called as above ( Mage::getResourceModel('sales/order_collection')-addA....) from Mage_Adminhtml_Block_Sales_Order_Grid class (line 50) . It can be initiated when going Admin-Sales-Orders. However, it is returning 0 orders instead of # of orders How is it that the new Model returns orders anywhere else but from Admin section? What is done differently in Admin section?..please help. I have spent hours and hours and any pointers will help Thank you, Margots
