• Microsoft Office 2010 start page numbering on page 5

  This is driving me absolutely insane. I want to start the page numbering on page 5 and for it to continue to the end of the document. I've tried using page/section breaks but that didn't work. I've also tried pressing ctrl + F9 while in the footer and adding it in the format { if{ page } < 5 "{ page *roman }" "{ page }" } but that doesn't work either. Does anyone have any ideas? I've been trying to fix this for the past hour.

• How to arrange models, views, controllers in a new Kohana 3 project

  I'm looking at how to set up a mid-sized web application with Kohana 3. I have implemented MVC patterns in the past but never worked against a "formalized" MVC framework so I'm still getting my head around the terminology - toying around with basic examples, building views and templates, and so on. I'm progressing fairly well but I want to set up a real-world web project (one of my own that I've been planning for quite some time now) as a learning object. Example-based documentation is a bit sparse for Kohana 3 right now - they say so themselves on the site. While I'm not worried about learning the framework soon enough, I'm a bit at a loss on how to arrange a healthy code base from the start - i.e. how to split up controllers, how to name them, and how to separate the functionality into the appropriate models. My application could, in its core, be described as a business directory with a main businesses table. Businesses can be listed by category and by street name. Each business has a detail page. Business owners can log in and edit their business's entry. Businesses can post offers into an offers table. I know this is pretty vague, I'll be more than happy to go into more detail on request. Supposing I have all the basic functionality worked out and in place already - list all businesses, edit business, list businesses by street name, create offer, and so on, and I'm just looking for how to fit the functionality into a Kohana application structure that can be easily extended: Do you know real-life, publicly accessible examples of applications built on Kohana 3 where I could take a peek how they do it? Are there conventions or best practices on how to structure an extendable login area for end users in a Kohana project that is not only able to handle a business directory page, but further products on separate pages as well? Do you know application structuring HOWTOs or best practices for Kohana 3 not mentioned in the user guide and the inofficial Wiki? Have you built something similar and could give me some recommendations?

• jQuery draggable + droppable: how to snap dropped element to dropped-on element

  I have my screen divided into two DIVs. In the left DIV I have a few 50x50 pixel DIVs, in the right DIV I have an empty grid made of 80x80 LIs. The DIVs on the left are draggable, and once dropped on a LI, they should snap to center of that LI. Sounds simple, right? I just don't know how to get this done. I tried by manipulating the dropped DIV's top and left CSS properties to match those of the LI they're dropped into, but the left and top properties are relative to the left DIV. How can I best have the dropped element snap to the center of the element it's dropped into? That's gotta be simple, right? Edit: I'm using jQuery UI 1.7.2 with jQuery 1.3.2. Edit 2: For whoever else has this problem, this is how I fixed it: I used Keith's solution of removing the dragged element and placing it inside the dropped-on element in the drop callback of the droppable plugin: function gallerySnap(droppedOn, droppedElement) { $(droppedOn).html('<div class="drop_styles">'+$(droppedElement).html()+'</div>' ); $(droppedElement).remove(); } I don't the dropped element to be draggable again, but if you do, just bind draggable to it again. For me this method also solved the problem I had when positioning the dropped elements (which would be relative to the left DIV) and scrolling inside the second DIV. (Elements would remain fixed on page, now they scroll along). I did play with the snap options to make it look good while dragging, so thanks to karim79 for that suggestion. I probably won't win any Awesome Code prizes with this, so if you see room for improvement, please share!

• Get contact name from just the number

  Say i have an edit text and a button. In the edit text you would type a number and then when you hit the button it will either show the contact information or return with the name of that contact. I have tried all sorts of methods provided with no luck. The one i have successfully gotten the furthest with was the following... But i had no luck returning the name. • Able to connect by SSH, but not x2go

  I am having trouble connecting to a remote server with X2GO using a DSA key. Connecting works fine over SSH, but when I try to connect with X2GO, it goes immediately to the username/password box and doesn't want to use the private key I specify in the options. If I select "Try auto login" it appears to try to connect and then I get the following error: No public key matched Access denied. Authentication that can continue: publickey It was working previously, but I reinstalled the client OS and since then I am unable to connect. I copied all of the SSH keys over from the previous installation. I also tried deleting my ~/.ssh/known_hosts file and adding the key to ssh-agent with no success, but the key is definitely added correctly: $ ssh-add -l 1024 b9:3d:e5:ef:48:ea:fc:c6:6e:45:89:b5:35:e7:58:39 server.com_dsa (DSA) Note, if I enable password authentication on the server, I can connect fine, however I would like to use publickey. Any ideas how I can connect with public key authentication?

• SQL Server slow in production environment

  I have a weird problem in a customer's production environment. I can't give any details on the infrastructure, except that SQL server runs on a virtual server. The data, log and filestream file are on another storage server (data and filestream together and log on a separate server). In our local Test environment, there's one particular query that executes with these durations: first we clear the cache 300ms (First time it takes longer, but from then on it's cached.) 20ms 15ms 17ms In the customer's production environment, the SQL Server is more powerful, these are the durations (I didn't have the rights to clear the cache. Will try this tomorrow). 2500ms 2600ms 2400ms The servers in the customer's production environment are more powerful but they do have virtual servers (we don't). What could be the cause... Not enough memory? Fragmentation? Physical storage? How would you tackle this performance problem? EDIT: Some people have asked me if the data set is equal and it is. I restored their database on our environment. It's true that this was the first thing I looked at. (@Everyone: I added the edit because it will be the first thing that many will think off).

Without doing anything special, I get an empty instance of my EditorViewModel with everything null or default. The closest I've come is by calling UpdateModel manually: [HttpPost] public virtual ActionResult Edit(EditorViewModel account) { account.Account = new Account(); UpdateModel(account.Account, "Account"); // this kills me: UpdateModel(account); This successfully updates my Account property model, but when I call UpdateModel on account (to get the rest of the public properties of my EditorViewModel) I get the completely unhelpful "The model of type ... could not be updated." There is no inner exception, so I can't figure out what's going wrong. What should I do with this?

• ASP.NET MVC : strange POST behavior

  ASP.NET MVC 2 app I have two actions on my controller (Toons): [GET] List [POST] Add App is running on IIS7 integration mode, so /Toons/List works fine. But when I do POST (that redirects to /Toons/List internally) it redirects (with 302 Object Moved) back to /Toons/Add. The problem goes away if I use .aspx hack (that works in IIS6/IIS7 classic mode). But without .aspx - GET work fine, but POST redirects me onto itself but with GET. What am I missing? I'm hosting with webhost4life.com and they did change IIS7 to integrated mode already. EDIT: The code works as expected using UltiDev Cassini server. EDIT: It turned out to be trailing-slash-in-URL issue. Somehow IIS7 doesn't route request properly if there is no slash at the end. EDET: Explanation of the behavior What happens is when I request (POST) /Toons/List (without trailing slash), IIS doesn't find the handler (I do not have knowledge to understand how exactly IIS does URL-to-handler mapping) and redirects the request (using 302 code) to /Toons/List/ (notice trailing slash). A browser, according to the HTTP specification, must redirect the request using same method (POST in this case), but instead it handles 302 as if it is 303 and issues GET request for the new URL. This is incorrect, but known behavior of most browsers. The solution is either to use .aspx-hack to make it unambiguous for IIS how to map requests to ASP.NET handler, or configure IIS to handle everything in the virtual directory using ASP.NET handler. Q: what is a better way to handle this?

• TypeConverter prevents ApplyPropertyChanges in EntityFramework

  I ran into an interesting problem (hopefully, interesting not just for me :) I am running Entity Framework 1 (.NET 3.5) and ASP.NET MVC 2. I have a Customer class that has many-to-one relationship with Country class (in other words, Country is a lookup table for customers - I described more in this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2404801/explicit-casting-doesnt-work-in-default-model-binding ) I got TypeConverter to work; so I am getting a perfect object into controller's Post method. Create works fine; however, in Edit I am getting the following error when I call ApplyPropertyChanges: The existing object in the ObjectContext is in the Added state. Changes can only be applied when the existing object is in an unchanged or modified state. The controller code is fairly trivial: public ActionResult Edit(Customer customerToEdit) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { Customer cust = (Customer)context.GetObjectByKey( new EntityKey("BAEntities.Customers", "CustomerID", customerToEdit.CustomerID)); context.ApplyPropertyChanges(cust.EntityKey.EntitySetName, customerToEdit); context.SaveChanges(); } return View(...); } If I remove country from the form, it works fine; and if I assign dropdown value to EntityReference "manually" - it works as well. • Mod_rewrite display subdomain.domain.com and call domain.com/subdomain/ for SSL

  I have a website secured by a standard SSL certificate, securing a few different shops under different subdirectories. Ex. domain.com/shop1/ The shops are also accessible via a subdomain e.g. shop1.domain.com. What I'm trying to accomplish: display shop1.domain.com to the user, while keeping all of the actual server calls as domain.com/shop1, so that the secure pages will continue to work properly. (Not sure if I'm using the proper language, exactly, I hope my point is clear.) To be clear: my SSL is working fine, and I don't need help with that, and I don't need or want to purchase a UCC cert. It can't be that difficult for anyone with experience with Apache. (I've spent 3 hours trying to learn about mod_rewrite. It's just not clicking.) I'm on a GoDaddy secure shared server, so please keep in mind that I'm not able to reset the server or anything.

• Django Admin: OneToOne Relation as an Inline?

  I am putting together the admin for a satchmo application. Satchmo uses OneToOne relations to extend the base Product model, and I'd like to edit it all on one page. It is possible to have a OneToOne relation as an Inline? If not, what is the best way to add a few fields to a given page of my admin that will eventually be saved into the OneToOne relation? for example: class Product(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=100) ... class MyProduct(models.Model): product = models.OneToOne(Product) ... • Accessing apache in ubuntu 10 virtualbox guest from ubuntu 10 host

  I did the following: installed VirtualBox 3.1.6 OSE in ubuntu 10 desktop. installed ubuntu 10 server on a virtual machine in VirtualBox. select "LAMP server" and "OpenSSH server" options during the ubuntu server installation. leave network "adapter 1" of virtual machine as "NAT". use "VBoxManage" described in manual to setup port forwarding on the host (Protocol: TCP, GuestPort: 80, HostPort: 8080). verify "ExtraDataItem" have been added to "ubuntuServer1.xml" (my virtual machine name) correctly. run command "pgrep apache" in ubuntu server in virtual machine to ensure apache is running. Everything went well. But, when I try to access the apache from the browser on the host with "http://localhost:8080/", it just continue fetching with no response. Now, I'm struck! Please help! • External Hard-Drive Randomly Ejects; Stays On

  My 250GB I/O Magic USB external hard-drive randomly disconnects / ejects from the computer after between 2-30 minutes of use. When this happens, the blinking activity light on the front of the hdd turns off; however, the disks can still be heard spinning. Unplugging & replugging in the USB does not reconnect the device and the activity light remains unlit. The only way to continue using it is to flip off then on the power switch of the hdd. The hard-drive was formatted with MBR partition table and 2 NTFS volumes. I recently tried switching to GUID with two Mac OS Extended (Journaled), but the problem remains. This error occurs with my new Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard as well as with my DELL E520 with Windows 7 Ultimate.

• gzip not working for some files using nginx

  Some files are not gzipped on their way to the user browser in our setup. for example http://myhostname.com/css/build/20120904-1.css http://myhostname.com/js/dojo/dn/main.js?20120904-1 http://myhostname.com/js/jquery-min/compiled.js?20120725-4 can not be zipped. my current configuration: location ~* \.(js|css|png|jpg|jpeg|gif|ico)\.*+$ { if ($args ~ [0-9]\.*+) { expires max; break; } expires max; log_not_found off; gzip on; } What needs to be adjusted to make gzip fly? I already tried several other options but don't want to continue with try&error on this. Thank you very much.

• Building Web Application project using MSBuild from command line on 64-bit: missing targets file

  Building a solution containing a web application project using MSBuild from powershell like this: msbuild "/p:OutDir=$build_dir\" $solution_file Works fine for me on 32-bit, but on a 64-bit machine I am running into this error: error MSB4019: The imported project "C:\Program Files\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\WebApplications\Microsoft.WebApplication.targets" was not found. Confirm that the path in the declaration is correct, and that the file exists on disk. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and powershell v2. The problem has already been documented here and here. Basically on 64-bit install of VS, the Microsoft.WebApplication.targets needed by MSBuild is in the Program Files(x86) dir, not the Program Files dir, but MSBuild doesn't recognise this and so looks in the wrong place. The two solutions are not ideal: Manually copy the file on 64-bit from Program Files(x86) to Program Files. This is a poor solution - every dev will have to do this manually. Manually edit the csproj file so MSBuild looks in the right place. Again not ideal: I would rather not have to get everyone on 64bit to manually edit csproj files on every new project. e.g. <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)" Condition="Exists('$(MSBuildExtensionsPathx86)\$(WebAppTargetsSuffix)')" /> Ideally I want a way to tell MSBuild to import the target file form the right place from the command line but I can't work out how to do that. Any solutions?

• Unattended Windows XP Install Stops at Deleting Previous Installation

  I'm not sure if I'm just not asking Google properly or what, but I can't come up with a good answer to this problem. We have MDT 2010 setup and have a Task Sequence for refreshing Windows XP machines. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but a lot of the time when we start a refresh it goes through the normal motions and when it gets into the first part of Windows XP setup (the blue screen) it stops, telling me a Windows installation already exists at that location and I can press L to continue, erasing everything and using that folder. I've poured over the unattend file and can't find an option that will just delete the old files and keep going, so I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

• How to explain to users the advantages of dumb primary key?

  Primary key attractiveness I have a boss(and also users) that wants primary key to be sophisticated/smart/attractive control number(sort of like Social Security number, or credit card number format) I just padded the primary key(in Views) with zeroes to appease their desire to make the control number sophisticated,smart and attractive. But they wanted it as: first 2 digits as client code, then 4 digits as year year, then last 4 digits as transaction number on that client on a given year, then reset the transaction number of client to 1 when next year flows. Each client's transaction starts with 1. e.g. WM20090001, WM20090002, BB2009001, WM20100001, BB20100001 But as I wanted to make things as simple as possible, I forgo embedding their suggested smartness in primary key, I just keep the primary key auto increments regardless of client and year. But to make it not dull-looking(they really are adamant to make the primary key as smart control number), I made the primary key appears to them smart, on view query, I put the client code and four digit year code on front of the eight-zero padded autoincrement key, i.e. WM200900000001. Sort of slug-like information on autoincremented primary key. Keeping primary key autoincrement regardless of any other information, we are able keep other potential side effects problem when they edit a record, for example, if they made a mistake of entering the transaction on WM, then they edit the client code to BB, if we use smart primary key, the primary keys of WM customer will have gaps in their control number. Or worse yet, instead of letting the control numbers have gaps/holes, the user will request that subsequent records of that gap should shift up to that gap and have their subsequent primary keys re-adjust(decremented). How do you deal with these user requests(reasonable or otherwise)? Do you yield to their request? Or just continue using dumb primary key and explain them the repercussions of having a very smart/sophisticated primary key and educate them the significant advantages of having a dumb primary key? • Unable to SSH into EC2 instance on Fedora 17

  I did following steps But I am not able to SSH to it(Same steps work fine on Fedora 14 image). I am getting Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-keyex,gssapi-with-mic) I created new instance using fedora 17 amazon community image(ami-2ea50247). I copied my ssh keys under /home/usertest/.ssh/ after creating a usertest I have SELINUX=disabled here is Debug info: $ ssh -vvv ec2-54-243-101-41.compute-1.amazonaws.com ssh -vvv • Unable to SSH to EC2

  I downloaded the cert-xxx.pem and pk-xxx.pem files and also the keypair.pem and moved it all to the /.ssh folder on my Ubuntu client machine. this is what I get when I try to SSH with -v at the end debug1: SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT received debug1: Authentications that can continue: publickey debug1: Next authentication method: publickey debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/identity debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/id_rsa debug1: Trying private key: /root/.ssh/id_dsa debug1: No more authentication methods to try. Permission denied (publickey). I am new to administering servers and I want to know if I should be trying to convert the pem files to id_rsa and id_dsa. I am not really sure if that is possible but I don't know how else to get the id_rsa, id_dsa from those pem files or if there is any work around. I managed to get access to EC2 the first time and this is my second try and I am unsuccessful so far. Any help is appreciated. regards Walker

  I have an applet that throws this exception when trying to communicate with the server (running on localhost). This problem is limited to Applets only - a POJO client is able to communicate with the exact same server without any problem. Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-1" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.net .SocketPermission 127.0.0.1:9999 connect,resolve) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:323) My applet.policy file's contents is: grant { permission java.security.AllPermission; }; My question is what are the other places where I need to modify my security settings to grant an Applet more security settings? Thank you. EDIT: Further investigation has lead me to find that this problem only occurs on some machines - but not others. So it could be a machine level (global) setting that is causing this, rather than a application-specific setting such as the one in the applet.policy file. EDIT: Another SO question: Socket connection to originating server of an unsigned Java applet This seems to describe the exact same problem, and Tom Hawtin - tackline 's answer provides the reason why (a security patch released that disallows applets from connecting to localhost). Bearing this in mind, how do I grant the applet the security settings such that in can indeed run on my machine. Also why does it run as-is on other machines but not mine?
