• Rails 3) Delete, Destory, and Routing

  The problem is the code below <%= button_to t('.delete'), @post, :method => :delete, :class => :destroy %> My Post model has many relations that are dependent on delete. However, the code above will only remove the post, leaving its relations intact. The problem is that methods delete and destroy are different in that method delete doesn't instantiate the object. So I need to use "destroy" instead of "delete" my post. <%= button_to t('.delete'), @post, :method => :destroy %> gives me routing error. No route matches [POST] "/posts/2" <%= button_to t('.delete'), @post, Post.destroy(@post) %> deletes the post without clicking the button. Could anyone help me with this? In SQL Server I would use UPDATE FROM and join every Vehicle with newest Allocation. Oracle doesn't have UPDATE FROM. How do you do it in Oracle?

• Fetching only the first record in the table (via the view) without changing controller?

  I am trying to only fetch the first record in my table for display. I am creating a site where a user can upload multiple images and attach to a post but I only want to display the first image view for each post. For further clarification posts belong_to projects. So when you are on the projects show page you see multiple posts. In this view I only want to display the first image for each post. Is there a way to do this in the view without affecting the controller (as later I want to allow users to browse all photos through the addition of a lightbox). • How can I post an array of string to ASP.NET MVC Controller without a form?

  Hi there, I am creating a small app to teach myself ASP.NET MVC and JQuery, and one of the pages is a list of items in which some can be selected. Then I would like to press a button and send a List (or something equivalent) to my controller containing the ids of the items that were selected, using JQuery's Post function. I managed to get an array with the ids of the elements that were selected, and now I want to post that. One way I could do this is to have a dummy form in my page, with a hidden value, and then set the hidden value with the selected items, and post that form; this looks crufty, though. Is there a cleaner way to achieve this, by sending the array directly to the controller? I've tried a few different things but it looks like the controller can't map the data it's receiving. Here's the code so far: function generateList(selectedValues) { var s = { values: selectedValues //selectedValues is an array of string }; $.post("/Home/GenerateList", $.toJSON(s), function() { alert("back") }, "json"); } And then my Controller looks like this public ActionResult GenerateList(List<string> values) { //do something } All I managed to get is a "null" in the controller parameter... • Why is post() not updating the DOM after it returns? Wierd timing problem observed.

  Hi all, I have the following code that is really bugging me, I'm thinking perhaps the post() function needs to be blocking. I am new to jQuery(latest version) and AJAX, but I'm using ColdFusion which returns some HTML in the data variable. var dataResult; var statusResult; $.post('fh_result.cfm',$('#myform').serialize(),function(data,status){ dataResult = data; statusResult = status; }); //alert(statusResult); if ('success' == statusResult) { alert(statusResult); $('#result').html(dataResult); } When I uncomment out the first alert, it returns 'undefined' but then it goes into the if block and the next alert box it says 'success'. If I comment out that line it doesn't make it into the if statement at all. My guess is that I want to make this a blocking call or something because I want to insert the data on the page after the post. I also have a problem when I re-write the top code as follows: var dataResult; var statusResult; $.post('fh_result.cfm',$('#myform').serialize(),function(data,status){ dataResult = data; statusResult = status; alert(statusResult); $('#result').html(dataResult); }); //alert(statusResult); Now in this case, the alert says 'success' when I comment out the second alert box. When I uncomment it out, I get one alert that says success and the other that says undefined, but this time it updates the DOM with the result of the postback as desired. How can I do this without the alert box?

• NHibernate will insert but not update after move to host with shared server running mysql.

  Hi, I have a site running MVC and Nhibernate (not fluent) using standard session per request in an http module, runs fine locally (also with mysql) but after a move to a hosting provider no update statements are being issued. I can insert but not update, no exceptions are raised, I have the 'show_sql' option switched on which locally shows the update statements being issued but on the server no update statements are logged. I don't think NHProf is an option for me as I can only run asp.net apps on my shared server, are there any other methods of diagnosing NH issues like this ? Anyone had a similar issue ? Cheers, A

  I have an application that I'm currently building that requires me to display a visual update on the application it self. example: The weather app displays 14 degrees celcius and some clouds as its application icon. When the weather changes there is an update to the way the icon looks without having to open the weather app. The applications icon changes to reflect the update in weather. You can then open the weather app to get more information if need be. In my application I need to have an update system like that which shows the user information without opening the application. If they would like more information they can open the application then. I have no idea how to accomplish this task at the moment. I hope someone will be able to help or point me in the right direction. Thank you for your time.

  I like using LINQ to SQL. The only problem is that I don't like the default way of updating tables. Let's say I have the following table with the following columns: ID (primary key), value1, value2, value3, value4, value5 When I need to update something I call UPDATE ... WHERE ID=@id LINQ to SQL call UPDATE ... WHERE ID=@id and value1=@value1 and value2=@value2 and value3=@value3 and value4=@value4 and value5=@value5 I can override this behavior by adding UpdateCheck=UpdateCheck.Never to every column, but with every update of the DataContext class with the GUI, this will be erased. Is there any way to tell LINQ to use this way of updating data?

  In this article, I will list the various OIF/SP settings that affect how an AuthnRequest message is created in OIF in a Federation SSO flow. The AuthnRequest message is used by an SP to start a Federation SSO operation and to indicate to the IdP how the operation should be executed: How the user should be challenged at the IdP Whether or not the user should be challenged at the IdP, even if a session already exists at the IdP for this user Which NameID format should be requested in the SAML Assertion Which binding (Artifact or HTTP-POST) should be requested from the IdP to send the Assertion Which profile should be used by OIF/SP to send the AuthnRequest message Enjoy the reading! Protocols The SAML 2.0, SAML 1.1 and OpenID 2.0 protocols define different message elements and rules that allow an administrator to influence the Federation SSO flows in different manners, when the SP triggers an SSO operation: SAML 2.0 allows extensive customization via the AuthnRequest message SAML 1.1 does not allow any customization, since the specifications do not define an authentication request message OpenID 2.0 allows for some customization, mainly via the OpenID 2.0 extensions such as PAPE or UI SAML 2.0 OIF/SP allows the customization of the SAML 2.0 AuthnRequest message for the following elements: ForceAuthn: Boolean indicating whether or not the IdP should force the user for re-authentication, even if the user has still a valid session By default set to false IsPassive Boolean indicating whether or not the IdP is allowed to interact with the user as part of the Federation SSO operation. As such, there is no capability to configure OIF/SP on how to affect the start of the Federation SSO flow. OpenID 2.0 OpenID 2.0 defines several extensions that can be used by the SP/RP to affect how the Federation SSO operation will take place: OpenID request: mode: String indicating if the IdP/OP can visually interact with the user checkid_immediate does not allow the IdP/OP to interact with the user checkid_setup allows user interaction By default set to checkid_setup PAPE Extension: max_auth_age : Integer indicating in seconds the maximum amount of time since when the user authenticated at the IdP. If MaxAuthnAge is bigger that the time since when the user last authenticated at the IdP, then the user must be re-challenged. OIF/SP will set this attribute to 0 if the administrator configured ForceAuthn to true, otherwise this attribute won't be set Default missing preferred_auth_policies Contains a Federation Authentication Method Element indicating how the user should be challenged at the IdP By default missing Only specified in the OpenID request if the IdP/OP supports PAPE in XRDS, if OpenID discovery is used. UI Extension Popup mode Boolean indicating the popup mode is enabled for the Federation SSO By default missing Language Preference String containing the preferred language, set based on the browser's language preferences. By default missing Icon: Boolean indicating if the icon feature is enabled. In that case, the IdP/OP would look at the SP/RP XRDS to determine how to retrieve the icon By default missing Only specified in the OpenID request if the IdP/OP supports UI Extenstion in XRDS, if OpenID discovery is used. ForceAuthn and IsPassive WLST Command OIF/SP provides the WLST configureIdPAuthnRequest() command to set: ForceAuthn as a boolean: In a SAML 2.0 AuthnRequest, the ForceAuthn field will be set to true or false In an OpenID 2.0 request, if ForceAuthn in the configuration was set to true, then the max_auth_age field of the PAPE request will be set to 0, otherwise, max_auth_age won't be set IsPassive as a boolean: In a SAML 2.0 AuthnRequest, the IsPassive field will be set to true or false In an OpenID 2.0 request, if IsPassive in the configuration was set to true, then the mode field of the OpenID request will be set to checkid_immediate, otherwise set to checkid_setup Test In this test, OIF/SP is integrated with a remote SAML 2.0 IdP Partner, with the OOTB configuration. • Can't connect to wifi after 13.10 update - Qualcomm Atheros AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0030] (rev 01)

  I updated Ubuntu to 13.10 last night and wifi was working fine until I went to wake up my computer this morning and no WiFi connection. I am on a iMac with Qualcomm Atheros AR93xx Wireless Network Adapter [168c:0030] (rev 01). The only solutions I have seen so far are for broadcomm WiFi drivers. There is no wifi driver in addition drivers only graphics drivers. Not sure how to fix this, Any help would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: WiFi works after reboot but doesn't after being put to sleep nor does Ethernet connect after sleep.

The last graph shows the Non-com EMD Influence, where it is suggested that a .com tld will perform better than a non-.com one. However, let's consider local search. In the US, .com's work great. However, let's say you're in Canada, and you have a .ca EMD, all with local, Canadian results. Would the expectation be that the .com equivalent still perform better? As a user I would expect the .ca results to be more relevant, and I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this?

  Why does Adobe Acrobat Reader require a restart when you update it? It's a piece of software that reads PDFs. Just what else is it installing/updating that requires a total OS reboot to "complete" the installation? A bit of Googling indicates that it's to allow the OS to install the Adobe "Speed Launcher" - is this it or are there other components that are more tightly into the OS that it must absolutely have to have closed so that it can update them?

• How to find the number of packages needing update from the command line?

  I'm working on some system admin automation using fabric and I'd like to be able to monitor the number of packages that need upgrading on a given machine. This is the same information that I can see when I first log in to a machine, i.e. this part: 35 packages can be updated. 22 updates are security updates. Is there a command that I can run (preferably without sudo) that gives just that information? I'd also like to know whether or not apg/dpkg thinks that the machine needs a reboot after packages are installed/upgraded. bybobu shows this at the bottom of the screen. That way I can decide whether or not to reboot machines after I update packages a bit more intelligently. I've looked at the apt-python bindings, but they seem to have a high learning curve and they also appear to be changed around a lot -- I'd like something that will work at least as far back as lucid without needing to do different things on different Ubuntu versions.

• How to get Magento to update order status when PayPal returns IPN message?

  When someone checks out in Magento with PayPal, and PayPal flags their payment for review, Magento correctly sets the order status to "Payment Review". However, if after a day or two PayPal decides the order is OK, it sends an IPN message to Magento with the proper payment status of "Pending" and pending reason of "authorization". I can see this IPN message in Magento's paypal logs (and can simulate it with the sandbox), however, when Magento receives this message it does not update its order status. Why not and how can this be fixed? I am using Magento 1.5.1.0.

• Should I update blog posts or rewrite them as technology (and me) changes?

  I started a programming blog earlier this year, and since I started it some things have changed. Some changes are due to technology changing, some changes are due to my code libraries improving, and some (ok, probably most) are due to me changing as I learn more. I want to go back and completely re-write certain blog posts. Is it better to rewrite posts to remove old information and update them with new stuff, or to create entirely new posts and possibly take down old ones? I'm not talking about small changes to the code, or an extra few sentences, but complete rewrites with new code, new information, etc. Some things to consider are comments on the post, subscribers who receive updates when new posts are created, and user bookmarks.
