  • Iterating over a large data set in long running Python process - memory issues?

    I am working on a long running Python program (a part of it is a Flask API, and the other realtime data fetcher). Both my long running processes iterate, quite often (the API one might even do so hundreds of times a second) over large data sets (second by second observations of certain economic series, for example 1-5MB worth of data or even more). They also interpolate, compare and do calculations between series etc. What techniques, for the sake of keeping my processes alive, can I practice when iterating / passing as parameters / processing these large data sets? For instance, should I use the gc module and collect manually? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Package management system corrupted. Cannot install or remove packages. U12.04LTS

    Having read other posts, I believe that this may be less about samba than about update system. Below is the log file of the failed installation of Samba. I have been trying without success to install/outstall samba so that I could install anything else ... I cannot either install or remove samba using either update-manager or apt-get (nor indeed Software Centre). One of the errors that I have had to correct is the presence after "removal" (failed) of /usr/share/system-config-samba directory which finally allowed itself to be deleted. That, however was then ... I have U12.04LTS. running on release 63 because I allowed the upgrade to 64 this morning which fell over - no output to monitor - obviously even less support for my graphic chip than I am suffering already (see other posts in this forum). According to my interpretation of the dpkg returned errors there may be some problem with the package files, but if this is the case then it is on servers 'main', 'nantes uni fr' and 'best fr' at the very least if not everywhere. The suggestions offered at Package operation failed and elsewhere have not worked for me. This linked post suggests that a similar error is present in other packages, or that the error is in the 'update system' I have tried ... sudo apt-get remove samba ... autoremove ... install samba ... clean ... update -f all of the above In update-manager I have tried the "reload packages list" which fails to terminate because of the error. I have tried to install and remove samba from the software centre ... :( I am at a loss ... I need help, please! Firstly to recover my apt-get/update-manager/Software Centre so that I can at least carry on with my continuing installation - up to communicating with home network hence need for samba - which brings me to my second requirement ... samba. PS is the issue about "MaxReports" associated or apart? UPDATE! Being heartily sick of restarting FF every 5 seconds I thought I'd try again with Chromium ... and got the same errors from dpkg about corrupt compressed package - coincidence? Of course this was no longer in clipboard when I got here because apport has just errored ... AAARRRGGGH!!! Why does every error clear the clipboard?   • BIND DNS Master with Zerigo Slaves - BIND won't update the slave servers

    I've tried to resolve this myself and have looked through Google and Stack but haven't found the answer I'm looking for. Currently on a VPS server I have BIND DNS installed as a MASTER DNS Server. I use Zerigo's DNS service as SLAVE servers for public use: The Master doesn't receive queries - It's job is to simply create and modify DNS entries locally of which the SLAVE use to serve. You will notice that 'allow-transfer' is set explicitly on each DNS zone.   • rTorrent, too low memory usage !?

    I want to know from more experienced rTorrent users how to tweak the .rtorrent.rc so that rTorrent will cache disk reading and writing (same as uTorrent does). I have set the max_memory_usage = 1GB but this amount is not used. I run 6 rTorrent instances on a Quad Core, 8 GB Ram machine and total used memory reported by htop is only ~500MB. I need to use memory buffers cause disk IO activity is very high.

    I am trying to figure out if they are actually useful... I have a DBProject and it would be nice if when I publish from my DEV to my TEST it what automatically copy the schema and data from DEV to TEST.. is that what this tab in visual studio is for ? On PROD I would never want to copy the data over but maybe I would change the schema and want to move that schema to PROD.. so is that what this tab is for ? For now we are using WEB DEPLOY but none of these database options.. We are manually using DATA COMPARE to sync changes on the various databases/DBproject... Any advice?

    Yesterday I had discussed two analytical functions FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE. After reading the blog post I received very interesting question. “Don’t you think there is bug in your first example where FIRST_VALUE is remain same but the LAST_VALUE is changing every line. I think the LAST_VALUE should be the highest value in the windows or set of result.” I find this question very interesting because this is very commonly made mistake. No there is no bug in the code. I think what we need is a bit more explanation. Let me attempt that first. Before you do that I suggest you read yesterday’s blog post as this question is related to that blog post. Now let’s have fun following query: USE AdventureWorks GO SELECT s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty, FIRST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID) FstValue, LAST_VALUE(SalesOrderDetailID) OVER (ORDER BY SalesOrderDetailID) LstValue FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail s WHERE SalesOrderID IN (43670, 43669, 43667, 43663) ORDER BY s.SalesOrderID,s.SalesOrderDetailID,s.OrderQty GO The above query will give us the following result: As per the reader’s question the value of the LAST_VALUE function should be always 114 and not increasing as the rows are increased. Let me re-write the above code once again with bit extra T-SQL Syntax. Please pay special attention to the ROW clause which I have added in the above syntax. If I use following single MongoDb server : High-Memory Extra Large Instance 17.1 GiB memory, 6.5 ECU (2 virtual cores with 3.25 EC2 Compute Units each), 420 GB of local instance storage, 64-bit platform As a layman, if we quantify I/O, data in MB/sec. How much I/O transactions mongodb server can handle easily, without being burnt out. Consider default settings of EC2 server with Ubuntu and MongoDb version available in AWS marketplace.   • Xfce power manager warns HAL daemon is not running, no keyboard on startup on Ubuntu

    I changed my grub boot options to add "vga=0x323" to them to resolve some issues with corrupted display during startup/shutdown on my laptop. The next time I booted the system up, I got a warning over the login screen saying Xfce Power Manager HAL Daemon not running The keyboard and mouse are unresponsive. After a minute or so, they start to work and the system functions as normal. How can I solve this?

    I have a Lenovo T500 laptop with an Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN I have Win 7 Enterprise installed as the OS Inside that Win 7 install, I have installed VmWare Workstation (8.0.0 build-471780) Inside the VmWare, I have installed BackTrack 5 (BT5r1-GNOME-64) Under the VmWare settings, I have Bridged Mode Enabled for the Network Adapter In BT5r1-GNOME-64, under the Wicd Network Manager, it says "No wireless networks found" What do I fix so that it can find the wireless networks? Is the issue with BackTrack, VmWare, etc.?

  • IEEE 1394 Firewire Card is not visible in Device Manager in WIndows 7

    I have a IEEE 1394 card that I have placed in one of the PCI slots of my Windows 7 PC. I have moved to Windows just last week and Windows is not detecting this card. It is not listed in the Devide Manager. Earlier when I used Fedora 12, I was able to use this interface for capturing videos from my DV Camera. The manufacturer is Tech-Com, which has not provided a driver CD for this. What can I possibly try?
