• How To Automatically Script SQL Server: 'Generate Scripts' for SQL Database

  I want to run scheduled nightly exports of my database code into my SVN source. It's easy to schedule automated check-in's into svn from a folder, but scheduling the export from SQL in SQL Management Studio is Right click target database, choose Tasks Generate Scripts. Follow the wizard and presto you've got scripts in a folder. Is it possible to extract a single script that the wizard generates, and stuff that into a stored proc which I can run nightly? Ideas?

  Hi all, i am currently working on a web application that needs to accept video uploaded by users in any format (.avi, .mov, etc.) and convert them to flv for playing in a flash-based player. Since the site is OpenCms-based, the best solution would be a ready-made plugin for OpenCms that allowed to upload and play videos doing the transcode operation in background, but just a set of Java classes to do the transcode would be great and then i could make the uploading form and playback part on my own.

  Simple question, I think. I have org.springframework.scheduling.quartz.CronTriggerBean triggering one job once a day. Because this method can last a long time (over 24 hours), will the next day at the same time a new job be executed if the last one is not ended yet? If yes - is it possible to turn off executing new jobs until the last one is finished? My method is trans-coding videos and some days there a lot of videos and could last long.

  I'm using Zend_Date to manage dates/times in a scheduling app. The only way I'm able to determine the user's Timezone is via Javascript which only gives a Timezone Offset. Zend_Date only seems to take Timezones in the 'America/New_York' format. Is there a way to get the users timezone in this format or set the Timezone Offset with Zend_Date? Thanks!

  I'm doing: select * from mytable y where y.year = (select max(yi.year) from mytable yi where yi.person = y.person) Is that better or worse from a performance aspect than: select y.* from mytable y left outer join mytable y2 on y.year < y2.year and y.person = y2.person where y2.year is null The explain plan/anecdotal evidence is inconclusive so I am wondering if in general one is better than the other.

  Say I have an User (mapped to a User table) and the Edit view (in MVC) displays a multiselectlist of Modules (mapped to a Modules table) that user can access, with the Modules pre-selected based on the User's EntitySet of Modules. I have tried saving the User then deleting all User_Modules manually and adding them back based on what's selected on submit, but the User has a null EntitySet for User.User_Modules. I cannot find the correct way to handle this scenario anywhere online. Can anyone help?

  I have a table that describes a variety of objects in my system (ie. umbrella, boots, satchel, whatever). Each one of these objects needs to have a distinct prevalence or incidence. For example, the umbrella is rarer than the boots. Based on those factors, I need to randomly select a single object (including a blank or 'no object found') based on that incidence value. Yikes.   Windows XP/2k3 and earlier (can't attest to Vista, but suspect it's the same) all appear to become more sluggish over time as applications are installed and uninstalled. This is not a scientifically tested observation, but more of a learned-through-experience piece of wisdom. (I've always suspected the registry as being behind the issue.)   Just wondering if there was a nice (already implemented/documented) algorithm to do the following Given any shape (without crossing edges) and two points inside that shape, compute all the paths between the two points such that all reflections are perfect reflections. The path lengths should be limited to a certain length otherwise there are infinite solutions. I'm not interested in just shooting out rays to try to guess how close I can get, I'm interested in algorithms that can do it perfectly. Search based, not guess/improvement based.
