• What is the correct root file to import to aptana from an xampp folder/existing web app or git repository?

  Very noob question - all of this is new to me - not really sure how to get started. Overview: I'm taking over an existing wep project that has been developed in aptana and deployed in xampp setup - I also have access to Git repository on local directory. I want to import the web application into aptana, run it and begin updating/editing - bit of steep learning curve for me What is the best way to import? And what should I import? What should it look like in aptanan? I tried importing what I think is the root file from the git folder ("existing folder as new project")- it contains things like css, doc, img and js. This looks right to me - but might not be. Thanks, Gaff

• Apache .htaccess problem: No input file specified.

  Hello Everyone, Can someone help me with this. I'm feeling like I've been hitting my head against a wall for over 2 hrs now. I've got Apache 2.2.8 + PHP 5.2.6 installed on my machine and the .htacces with code below works fine, no errors. RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|css|gfx|js|swf|robots\.txt|favicon\.ico) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] The same code on my hosting provider server gives me a 404 error code and outputs only: No input file specified. index.php IS there. I know they have Apache installed (cannot find version info anywhere) and they're running PHP v5.2.8. I'm on windows xp 64-bit, they're running some Linux and php in cgi/fastcgi mode. Can anyone suggest what could be the problem? PS. if that's important that's for CodeIgniter to work with friendly URLs.

• Remove trailing slash using redirect directive in vhost

  I have an issue where urls that end in a "/" after a file name causes css/js to break. I.e., http://www.mysite.com/index.php/ <-- breaks http://www.mysite.com/ <-- OK, only breaks for file names To fix, I tried adding a Redirect 301 directive in the vhost file as such where I'm checking to see if there's an extension with a slash after it: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mysite.com Redirect 301 ^(.*?\..+)/$ http://mysite.com/$1 </VirtualHost> The redirect appears to do nothing. Is this an issue with my implementation or is what I'm trying to accomplish not possible with a Redirect 301 in the vhost file?

• First request too slow even if I have a load balancer in the back

  I have an Apache 2 on Centos + bind with a wordpress website on it (e.g example.com). I have also set up, on another server in a different contry a load balancer (varnish:80 + nginx 127.0.0.1:8080) for it - which task is to server all static content under /wp-content/. Using Simple DNS editor I added an A entry to cdn.example.com pointing to the server's IP. So no extra work from a 2nd dns server. Then using htaccess I redirect all requests to jpg|gif|css|js files to cdn.example.com. That works and all files are saved on the "cdn" server and served right away. My problem is that for the first time I enter on example.com (e.g after restarting the computer or closing the browser) the load time is 1 up to 3 seconds, while any subsequent page loads take only 300 to 600 miliseconds. I know it might be a DNS issue, but I have done a cache check on several websites and cdn.example.com indicates the right IP. Do you have any ideas where I should dig to solve this first-time slowness?

• Change the update channel in Portable Thunderbird?

  I think it needs some explanation How to update a TB Portable installation to beta or aurora. I tried to change the preferences in about:config: update.channel to aurora but that had no effect. Then I edited ThunderbirdPortable3\App\thunderbird\defaults\pref\channel-prefs.js and restarted TB. There I got the message in the Help screen, that I am on update channel aurora, which seems fine. Still: the update downloaded Thunderbird 29 pre beta and tried to install but ended with the message that it couldnt be installed due to patch problems: Das Update konnte nicht installiert werden (Patch-Anwendung fehlgeschlagen) I tried this again with the channel "nightly" and got the same error. (On channel "beta" there seem to be no newer version than in the channel "release".) How can I change my installation to channel aurora and update it?

  I want to set up a Reverse proxy on my VPS for my Heroku app (http://lovemaple.heroku.com) So if I visit mysite.com/blog I can get the content in http://lovemaple.heroku.com I followed the instructions on the Apache wiki. location /couchdb { rewrite /couchdb/(.*) /$1 break; proxy_pass http://localhost:5984; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; } I changed it to fit my situation: location /blog { rewrite /blog/(.*) /$1 break; proxy_pass http://lovemaple.heroku.com; proxy_redirect off; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; } When I visit mysite.com/blog, the page show up, but js/css file cannot be gotten (404). Their link becomes mysite.com/style.css but not mysite.com/blog/style.css. What's wrong and how can I fix it?

• Website is not clickable in Windows XP Internet Explorer 7

  I have installed Windows XP Virtual PC on Windows 7 to test a site that is having issues in IE7 on windows xp - the website loads up but you cannot click on hyperlinks - its like the website has frozen - now is this a browser support issue or OS issue? Can anyone shed any light on this? Is there any browser tools i can use to spot any problems? Sorry if i have been too vague - not much else to say really - completely lost.. Maybe this might help a little; Any guidance is appreciated UPDATE: I think i know what the problem maybe - its the jQuery UI reference that is causing issues with the site. • How do I turn off caching in IIS7?

  Hello. I'm developing an ASP classic site under Windows 7 (form a queue ladies). The problem is IIS seems to be heavily making use of its cache for both static and dynamic content which really conflicts with my 'make a small change, alt-tab, hit ctrl-F5' development style. Changes made to .asp files may take two or three refreshes to show up where as changes to .js files can take 20 times as many. How do I go about turning the caching off on my development machine? • Launch apps or run commands on Windows via shortcuts

  Is it possible to register shortcuts on Windows 7 so that regardless where you are looking (Desktop, a folder etc) the shortcut gets "heard" and the appropriate action is performed. For example, creating a shortcut in the System32 folder which will work if you use Run with the shortcut's name, will not work if you set a key combination when focus is set on the Desktop for example. Is there a native way of registering top-level shortcuts or even an application for enabling this? Example of things I want keyboard shortcuts for: open a specific folder like %path% create a new .js file in the current folder launch an application eventually with its path set to the current location if the app supports this (e.g. command prompt) Thank you.

• How to make nginx only respond to one domain?

  I am pretty new to nginx, I host my rails application on nginx+passenger. I want my website to be accessible to only one domain. So I set my nginx conf like the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com www.mydomain.com; root /var/deploy/myapp/current/public; passenger_enabled on; location ~* \.(js|css|png|jpg|jpeg|gif|ico)$ { expires 1y; add_header Cache-Control public; } } I specify the server_name directive, but still, it answers anything which points to this IP and I could see that in the access.log that it answers to other domain names. Is there anything I am doing wrong?

• windows - batch moving files to another folder/directory

  I am getting an error message to the effect of unable to move files to a single file. I am not trying to do this. What I am trying to do is move files from one folder to another folder (staging) and then deleting the original folder. If you can show me a better way to do this since I am not doing this correctly. • LSB Script: how do i know if something goes wrong?

  How do I know if a LSB script fails to load or where do I check the log of the lsbs scripts? I added two scripts with the following command: update-rc.d scriptname defaults And just one launches the things I need. It does not seem to be a script error since if I launch it with /etc/init.d/scriptname it works. • Mongo Scripting the shell

  On my production stack, I have a front-end server and a Mongo server. I would like to be able to set a cron job on the front-end server to create some logs daily. I wrote a script that does this: ./mongo server:27017/dbname --quiet my_commands.js If I run it from the Mongo server as above, it works fine. However, I would like to be able to run it from the front-end server. When I try to do that, I get: -bash: mongo: command not found Since mongo is not installed on the front end server, it gives me that error. Is it possible to somehow bind mongo to my mongo on the Mongo server?

• Vmware Fusion 5 Port Forwarding

  I have a service (a node.js express app) running on port 3000 in a CentOS 6.3 guest that I would like to access in a web browser on my Mac Mountain Lion host using VMware Fusion 5 Professional. I am having trouble finding any information about how to do this. I believe I would like to forward the port but I cannot find any information about this using either the GUI or by modifying configuration files. In earlier versions it looks like you might have modified a file called nat.conf but that does not seem to apply to Fusion 5. Has anyone successfully done this? Thank you.

• Any good resources on setting up an ubuntu virtual machine for web development?

  I'm currently on my placement year at uni with 4 months left. Before working at my current place, I have not used a nix environment for web development and have used WAMP. Over the past year I have found some very interesting new tech that requires a bit more than my shared hosting even to play with (eg node.js, RoR 3). At work we use a Virtual Machine for development, but that's all been set up and configured to match the live servers, and is managed with a Puppet server. Are there any really good resources for setting up and configuring an Ubuntu VM as a web server? Work currently uses Ubuntu so I would assume this is a good OS to use. I do of course know how to use google, but the noise ratio is just too big, so thought I'd ask here, as I know many of you will have a ton of bookmarks. Cheers.

• Improving Windows Authentication performance on IIS

  We're struggling with performance issues with a ASP.NET MVC site that is using Windows Authentication. Response time is very slow on the first request to the site when the user is being authenticated. Further, every time the Authorization header is sent from the browser the response time increases with many seconds. The same issue occurs for both executed files and static content like CSS and JS. Access to the application is restricted to users within a certain role and we are now planning to allow access to static files for all authenticated users to see if that helps. The authentication method in use is NTLM. How should we go forward in pinpointing why authentication decreases performance drastically?

• Troubleshooting web page load issues

  I having an odd issue where a particular page doesn't finish loading... all the time. Intermittenly, this page doesn't finish loading - in particluar, it seems maybe the JS file isn't downloaded or finished loading. Marchelos Law I am not sure how to troubleshoot this issue, since refreshing it fixes it. I see it mostly in IE 7 & 8, rarely in Safari or FireFox. If you view the page in question, refreshing it - you should see the issue. Any ideas?

  I've created a simple web application, a self-contained tool with a user system. I host it publicly for everyone to use, but I've gotten some requests to allow companies to host the entire application privately on their internal systems. I have no idea what I'm doing - I have no experience with deployment or server stuff. I'm just some person who learned enough JS and PHP to make a tool for my own needs. The application runs with Apache, MySQL, and PHP. What's the best way to package my application to let others run it privately? I'm assuming there's better options than just sending them all the source code. I'd like to find a solution that is: Does not require support to set up (I'm just a single developer without much free time) Easy to configure Easy to update Does there exist some one-size-fits all thing that I can give to someone, they can install it, and bam, now when they go to http://myapplication/ on their intranet, it works?   I created a JavaScript file, and named it test.user.js. I tried double clicking it, dragging & dropping it into Chrome and opening it with Chrome, but it won't install. I've already installed the dev version of Chrome, because it's stated somewhere that it's needed, but I can't get it to work. Then, I tried searching for a Chrome Greasemonkey addon, just to see that it was no further developed on, because Chrome has built-in support. Could someboy tell me what I have to do in order to get user scripts working on Chrome v21?

  I am not sure how to do this, but I want to block all access to a specific set of folders on my web server. Say secret01 and secret 02... homeDir |- data |- www | |- .htaccess (file) | |- images | |- js | |- secret01 | |- secret02 | |... |... What rule(s) do I need to add to my root .htaccess file to do this? I want all access from the web blocked from going into these folders, period. Only way one could get to them would be over SFTP or SSH. So what rule am I looking for? I am preferably looking for a one-liner so I can add more folders or move it to another site down the road. I really would prefer if the rule could be placed in the .htaccess root file so I don't have to jump all over the place to lock and unlock folders.

• what can be reasons for localhost responding super-slow the first time a page is requested?

  Still learning my server-ways with Apache2.2/MySQL5.2/Coldfusion8 on localhost (running Windows XP) What I notice is every time I request a page for the first time after firing up Coldfusion and Apache, localhost needs forever (1+ minute to respond and send the inital page). After that all seems to run at normal loading time. I'm using require.js to pull in Jquery, Jquery Mobile and two other plugins on first page load, but loading the same page from a real server works normally, so I'm also ruling out this as a probable cause. Since it happens regardless of which page I'm loading first it shoud not be page related, so I'm looking for other clues on why this could happen. Thanks for some thought!

I also need to create another directive to add Header set Cache-Control "max-age=3600, public" to Responses of files that DOES have them. Could anybody help me make proper fileMatch regexes?

  I need a way to automate the following process in Windows 7: Open an .html file in Internet Explorer Print to PDF Save the PDF with a patterned file name (i.e., original_name_YYYY-MM-DD.pdf) Ideally, I could drag and drop several files or open a whole folder of files at once and a PDF would be created for each one. A command line solution is also acceptable. The files have to be opened in the browser because parts of the page are rendered with JavaScript on page load. In other words, if you simply right-click on the file in Explorer and choose "print", the resulting file is not the same because the JS didn't run. If it helps, Internet Explorer can be set as the default browser, and a PDF printer can be set as the default printer.
