  • Package dependency errors : libc

    I was trying to install kde-full when the libc had some unmet dependencies error. When saying sudo apt-get install kde-full the terminal has this in the end libc6 : Depends: libc-bin (= 2.15-0ubuntu10) libc6:i386 : Depends: libc-bin:i386 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10) libc6-dev : Depends: libc6 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.3) but 2.15-0ubuntu10 is to be installed libc6-i386 : Depends: libc6 (= 2.15-0ubuntu10.3) but 2.15-0ubuntu10 is to be installed When running sudo apt-get -f install, this shows up at the end De-configuring libc6:i386 ...   • Intel Centrino Wireless N 1000 doesn't work on a Lenovo Z560

    I upgraded my Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 and my Wifi has stopped working. I have a Lenovo Z560 that has Intel centrino wireless-N 1000. I have searched various threads having similar problems for a solution and have no success. The wlan0 is not even showing up in rfkill. Please help me find a solution.   • Which hosts have low latency across United States and Europe?

    I'm looking for some information on web hosts that have low latency (<100ms) to both the United States and Europe. The host can be in either the United States or Europe. Latency is most important to the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway. Should be able to provide managed hosting. Hosting at multiple locations is not what I'm looking for. Answers should contain at least some latency information from multiple locations, preferably from Los Angeles, New York, London, Amsterdam and Oslo. Also some information on your experience with this host is preferred, do not rant, do provide details of your package (with or without SLA, dedicated or VPS etc.). From my own little research I found that probably New York based hosts can offer low latency to all these locations, but I do not have much statistics to back that up other than my own ping is about 85ms to New York from the Netherlands.

  • First Experience with Web Services

    When I first started programming with Microsoft .Net (1.0 Framework) I had a strong desire to learn how search engines indexed web sites. At that time I was a working as a search engine spammer creating web pages to generate traffic for specific themes for various clients. One way I attempted to better understand .Net was to build a web spider that analyzed web pages on demand. An example of the spider is hosted at AddLinkz.com. After my spider was built I had no real idea what I could/should do with it until I found the MSN Search API. I used this web service to compare its results with my spider. Additionally, I used the API to feed my .Net web spider new URLs from the API based on specific search terms. MSN’s search API was very easy to use, I just had to request information by calling a web URL with parameters via a Get request and the results were returned in XML. At that time all requests were limited to XML responses and a maximum of 1,000 results per query.   Since then the entire API has gone through several reconstructions, rebranding and new search services.  Microsoft’s new Bing API replaced the older MSN search API and added several new search capabilities. These new features allow search data to be returned for web searches, image searches, new searches, and related search terms to name a few.     I bought the de-facto book for learning about data structures and algorithms (CLRS). The book is though quite good but the singularity is in the proofs. The book is filled with Lemmas, theorems, peculiar symbols and unimaginable recurrence relations which are very hard to understand. I am able to somehow get the algorithms but the discrete mathematics just not for me. So should I leave them out and just concentrate on algorithims?

    Emaroo is a free utility for browsing most recently used (MRU) lists of various applications. Quickly open files, jump to their folder in Windows Explorer, copy their path - all with just a few keystrokes or mouse clicks. tl;dr: Emaroo 1.4.0 is out, go download it on www.roland-weigelt.de/emaroo   Why Emaroo? Let me give you a few examples. Let’s assume you have pinned Emaroo to the first spot on the task bar so you can start it by hitting Win+1. To start one of the most recently used Visual Studio solutions you type Win+1, [maybe arrow key down a few times], Enter This means that you can start the most recent solution simply by Win+1, Enter What else? If you want to open an Explorer window at the file location of the solution, you type Ctrl+E instead of Enter.   If you know that the solution contains “foo” in its name, you can type “foo” to filter the list. Because this is not a general purpose search like e.g. the Search charm, but instead operates only on the MRU list of a single application, you usually have to type only a few characters until you can press Enter or Ctrl+E.   Ctrl+C copies the file path of the selected MRU item, Ctrl+Shift+C copies the directory If you have several versions of Visual Studio installed, the context menu lets you open a solution in a higher version.   Using the context menu, you can open a Visual Studio solution in Blend. So far I have only mentioned Visual Studio, but Emaroo knows about other applications, too. It remembers the last application you used, you can change between applications with the left/right arrow or accelerator keys. Press F1 or click the Emaroo icon (the tab to the right) for a quick reference. Which applications does Emaroo know about?   • Added resolution not working after upgrading to 12.04

    After upgrading, my screen resolution (added by xrandr comands on the start) did not work like before. Messages appear showing some errors (that i have never had in 11.10). This script didn't work either. xrandr --newmode "1280x1024_60.00" 109.00 1280 1368 1496 1712 1024 1027 1034 1063 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024_60.00 xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024_60.00 I also tryed deleting monitors.xml but, nothing. This only erase the window message. It's been sayd that ##It's a normal buggy and well know problem for Pc's with Intel integrated video cards.## The new version of gnome-settings-daemon stores its configuration information in dconf rather than gconf. I tryed something, but the problem persist. This is what i did. Install the dconf-tools package, and then run dconf-editor. In the tree on the left, navigate org - gnome - settings-daemon - plugins - xrandr. Uncheck the active checkbox. restart your XServer (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) (It didn't worked out for me, but it may be helpful to someone)
