  • How do you model roles / relationships with Domain Driven Design in mind?

    If I have three entities, Project, ProjectRole and Person, where a Person can be a member of different Projects and be in different Project Roles (such as "Project Lead", or "Project Member") - how would you model such a relationship? In the database, I currently have the following tablers: Project, Person, ProjectRole Project_Person with PersonId & ProjectId as PK and a ProjectRoleId as a FK Relationship. I'm really at a loss here since all domain models I come up with seem to break some "DDD" rule. Are there any 'standards' for this problem? I had a look at a Streamlined Object Modeling and there is an example what a Project and ProjectMember would look like, but AddProjectMember() in Project would call ProjectMember.AddProject(). So Project has a List of ProjectMembers, and each ProjectMember in return has a reference to the Project. Looks a bit convoluted to me. update After reading more about this subject, I will try the following: There are distinct roles, or better, model relationships, that are of a certain role type within my domain. For instance, ProjectMember is a distinct role that tells us something about the relationship a Person plays within a Project. It contains a ProjectMembershipType that tells us more about the Role it will play. I do know for certain that persons will have to play roles inside a project, so I will model that relationship. ProjectMembershipTypes can be created and modified. These can be "Project Leader", "Developer", "External Adviser", or something different. A person can have many roles inside a project, and these roles can start and end at a certain date.   • Adapt beginner C# SQL Server INSERT example to work with my database

    I have read TONS of tutorials, articles and whatever regarding my issue and honestly, due to my lack of experience I can't twist my fingers around this one so I hope some of you guys can help me out :) I am working on a project (simply to learn how to program so it's probably very basic), but I have this "News" page where I can update and delete data using a GridView. Now I would like to INSERT something into my database using 3 textboxes and 1 submit button. I have 3 rows that has to be inserted: Headline Date Content/the news itself.   • Pass table as parameter to SQLCLR TV-UDF

    We have a third-party DLL that can operate on a DataTable of source information and generate some useful values, and we're trying to hook it up through SQLCLR to be callable as a table-valued UDF in SQL Server 2008. Taking the concept here one step further, I would like to program a CLR Table-Valued Function that operates on a table of source data from the DB. I'm pretty sure I understand what needs to happen on the T-SQL side of things; but, what should the method signature look like in the .NET (C#) code?   • Primitive type 'short' - casting in Java

    Hello, I have a question about the primitive type 'short' in Java. I am using JDK 1.6. If I have the following: short a = 2; short b = 3; short c = a + b; the compiler does not want to compile - it says that it "cannot convert from int to short" and suggests that I make a cast to short, so this: short c = (short) (a + b); really works. But my question is why do I need to cast? The values of a and b are in the range of short - the range of short values is {-32,768, 32767}. I also need to cast when I want to perform the operations -, *, / (I haven't checked for others). If I do the same for primitive type int, I do not need to cast aa+bb to int. The following works fine: int aa = 2; int bb = 3; int cc = aa +bb; I discovered this while designing a class where I needed to add two variables of type short, and the compiler wanted me to make a cast. If I do this with two variables of type int, I don't need to cast. Thank you very much in advance. A small remark: the same thing also happens with the primitive type byte. So, this workes: byte a = 2; byte b = 3; byte c = (byte) (a + b); but this not: byte a = 2; byte b = 3; byte c = a + b; For long, float, double, and int, there is no need to cast. Only for short and byte values.

  • ASP.NET MVC: null reference exception using HtmlHelper.TextBox and custom model binder

    I have written a class which implements IModelBinder (see below). This class handles a form which has 3 inputs each representing parts of a date value (day, month, year). I have also written a corresponding HtmlHelper extension method to print out three fields on the form. When the day, month, year inputs are given values which can be parsed, but a seperate value fails validation, all is fine - the fields are repopulated and the page served to the user as expected. however when an invalid values are supplied and a DateTime cannot be parsed, i return an arbitrary DateTime so that the fields will be repopulated when returned to the user. I read up on similar problems people have had and they all seemed to be due to lack of calling SetModelValue().   • Editing 8bpp indexed Bitmaps

    hi, i'm trying to edit the pixels of a 8bpp. Since this PixelFormat is indexed i'm aware that it uses a Color Table to map the pixel values. Even though I can edit the bitmap by converting it to 24bpp, 8bpp editing is much faster (13ms vs 3ms). But, changing each value when accessing the 8bpp bitmap results in some random rgb colors even though the PixelFormat remains 8bpp. I'm currently developing in c# and the algorithm is as follows: (C#) 1- Load original Bitmap at 8bpp 2- Create Empty temp Bitmap with 8bpp with the same size as the original 3-LockBits of both bitmaps and, using P/Invoke, calling c++ method where I pass the Scan0 of each BitmapData object. (I used a c++ method as it offers better performance when iterating through the Bitmap's pixels) (C++) 4- Create a int[256] palette according to some parameters and edit the temp bitmap bytes by passing the original's pixel values through the palette. (C#) 5- UnlockBits. My question is how can I edit the pixel values without having the strange rgb colors, or even better, edit the 8bpp bitmap's Color Table? Regards, Pedro

    Hi, I have the following query which uses a date variable, which is generated inside the stored procedure: DECLARE @sp_Date DATETIME SET @sp_Date = DateAdd(m, -6, GETDATE()) SELECT DISTINCT pat.PublicationID FROM PubAdvTransData AS pat INNER JOIN PubAdvertiser AS pa ON pat.AdvTransID = pa.AdvTransID WHERE (pat.LastAdDate > @sp_Date) AND (pa.AdvertiserID = 12345)) The problem is that the @sp_Date value appears to be being ignored and I am wondering why?     I'm using multiple datepicker on same grid and I face the problem to get a proper result. I used 3 datepicker in 1 grid. Only the first datepicker (Order Date)is able to output proper result while the other 2 datepicker (Start Date & End Date) are not able to generate proper result.   • Android SMS API

    I know that the SMS content provider is not part of the public API (at least not documented), but if I understand correctly it's still possible to use many of the SMS features as long as you know how to use the API(?). E.g it's pretty straightforward to insert an SMS into your inbox: ContentValues values = new ContentValues(); values.put("address", "+457014921911"); contentResolver.insert(Uri.parse("content://sms"), values); Unfortunately this does not trigger the standard "new-SMS-in-your-inbox" notification. Is it possible to trigger this manually? Edit: AFAIK the "standard mail application (Messaging)" in Android is listening for incoming SMSes using the android.permission.RECEIVE_SMS permission. And then, when a new SMS has arrived, a status bar notification is inserted with a "special" notification id. So one solution to my problem (stated above) could be to find, and send the correct broadcast intent; something like "NEW SMS HAS ARRIVED"-intent. Edit: Downloaded a third party messaging application (chompsms) from Android market. This application satisfies my needs better. When i execute the code above the chompsms notice the new sms and shows the "standard status bar notification". So I would say that the standard Android Messaging application is not detecting sms properly? Or am I wrong?

  • How can I write reusable Javascript?

    I've started to wrap my functions inside of Objects, e.g.: var Search = { carSearch: function(color) { }, peopleSearch: function(name) { }, ... } This helps a lot with readability, but I continue to have issues with reusabilty. To be more specific, the difficulty is in two areas: Receiving parameters. A lot of times I will have a search screen with multiple input fields and a button that calls the javascript search function. I have to either put a bunch of code in the onclick of the button to retrieve and then martial the values from the input fields into the function call, or I have to hardcode the HTML input field names/IDs so that I can subsequently retrieve them with Javascript. The solution I've settled on for this is to pass the field names/IDs into the function, which it then uses to retrieve the values from the input fields. This is simple but really seems improper. Returning values. The effect of most Javascript calls tends to be one in which some visual on the screen changes directly, or as a result of another action performed in the call. Reusability is toast when I put these screen-altering effects at the end of a function. For example, after a search is completed I need to display the results on the screen. How do others handle these issues? Putting my thinking cap on leads me to believe that I need to have an page-specific layer of Javascript between each use in my application and the generic methods I create which are to be used application-wide. Using the previous example, I would have a search button whose onclick calls a myPageSpecificSearchFunction, in which the search field IDs/names are hardcoded, which marshals the parameters and calls the generic search function. The generic function would return data/objects/variables only, and would not directly read from or make any changes to the DOM. The page-specific search function would then receive this data back and alter the DOM appropriately. Am I on the right path or is there a better pattern to handle the reuse of Javascript objects/methods?

  • PostgreSQL: Rolling back a transaction within a plpgsql function?

    Coming from the MS SQL world, I tend to make heavy use of stored procedures. I'm currently writing an application uses a lot of PostgreSQL plpgsql functions. What I'd like to do is rollback all INSERTS/UPDATES contained within a particular function if I get an exception at any point within it. I was originally under the impression that each function is wrapped in it's own transaction and that an exception would automatically rollback everything. However, that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm wondering if I ought to be using savepoints in combination with exception handling instead? But I don't really understand the difference between a transaction and a savepoint to know if this is the best approach. Any advice please?     Coming from Eclipse, I'm disappointed with the very limited syntax coloring capabilities offered for C# by Visual Studio (all versions, up to 2010). In particular, I'm interesting in distinct coloring for methods / fields / locals / static stuff. I'm aware Visual Assist can enhance the coloring, but I've failed to find any free alternative capable of doing that, so I'm turning to SO (I hope it's programming-related enough). Is there any free (or at least cheaper than Visual Assist) solution capable of enhancing the syntax coloring for C#?

    Is there a decent open-source C library for storing and manipulating dynamically-typed variables (a.k.a. variants)? I'm primarily interested in atomic values (int8, int16, int32, uint, strings, blobs, etc.), while JSON-style arrays and objects as well as custom objects would also be nice. A major case where such a library would be useful is in working with SQL databases. The most obvious feature of such a library would be a single type for all supported values, e.g.: struct Variant { enum Type type; union { int8_t int8_; int16_t int16_; // ... }; }; Other features might include converting Variant objects to/from C structures (using a binding table), converting values to/from strings, and integration with an existing database library such as SQLite.   • How can I turn a column name into a result value in SQL Server?

    I have a table which has essentially boolean values in a legacy database. The column names are stored as string values in another table so I need to match the column names of one table to a string value in another table. I know there has to be a way to do this directly with SQL in SQL Server but it is beyond me. My initial thought was to use PIVOT but it is not enabled by default and enabling it would likely be a difficult process with pushing that change to the Production database. I would prefer to use what is enabled by default. I am considering using COALESCE to translate the boolean value to the string that value that I need. This will be a manual process. I think I will also use a table variable to insert the results of the first query into that variable and use those results to do the second query. I still have the problem that the columns are on a single row so I wish I could easily pivot the values to put the column names in the result set as strings. But if I could easily do that I could easily write the query with a sub-select. Any tips are welcome.

  • Java design: too many getters

    After writing a few lesser programs when learning Java the way I've designed the programs is with Model-View-Control. With using MVC I have a plethora of getter methods in the model for the view to use. It feels that while I gain on using MVC, for every new value added I have to add two new methods in the model which quickly get all cluttered with getter & setters. So I was thinking, maybe I should use the notifyObserver method that takes an argument. But wouldn't feel very smart to send every value by itself either so I figured, maybe if I send a kind of container with all the values, preferably only those that actually changed. What this would accomplish would be that instead of having a whole lot of getter methods I could just have one method in the model which put all relevant values in the container. Then in the view I would have a method called from the update which extracted the values from the container and assigning them to the correct fields. I have two questions concerning this. First: is this actually a viable way to do this. Would you recommend me doing something along these lines? Secondly: if I do use this plan and I don't want to keep sending fields that didn't actually change. How would I handle that without having to have if statements to check if the value is not null for every single value?

  • Jquery Flexigrid reload only if flexigrid initially ran

    Im trying to use flexigrid to show results using the values from a form. So when a person clicks a form I want it to load the flexigrid function if its the first time the person clicked the button to initialize the table. Then if someone adjusts the values in the form then clicks the button again it then reloads the flexigrid table with the new form values. How can I do this in one function? In short I'd start by importing a project / propertygroup which contains this text: ; ----------- [heading] setting1=$(FirstValue) setting2=$(SecondValue) setting3=list;of;values;delimited;by;semicolons setting4=bla bla bla ; ----------- & hopefully write it away to a new .ini file containing the following: ; ----------- [heading] setting1=value resolved by msbuild setting2=another value resolved by msbuild setting3=list;of;values;delimited;by;semicolons setting4=bla bla bla ; ----------- Only problem is that some files will contain semicolons. I can live without comments, but they're also used as part of values e.g. in lists. This is the result of using the WriteLinesToFile task. The semicolons are treated as escape characters & result in new lines, so the value of 'setting3' in the above example would be split over 6 lines. Is there a way around this without implementing my own task? Thanks in advance for the help!

    Hey there, this is part of a question i got in class, im at the final stretch but this has become a major problem. In it im given a certain value which is called the "gold value" and it is 40.5, this value changes in input. and i have these constants const int RUBIES_PER_DIAMOND = 5; // relative values. * const int EMERALDS_PER_RUBY = 2; const int GOLDS_PER_EMERALDS = 5; const int SILVERS_PER_GOLD = 4; const int COPPERS_PER_SILVER = 5; const int DIAMOND_VALUE = 50; // gold values. * const int RUBY_VALUE = 10; const int EMERALD_VALUE = 5; const float SILVER_VALUE = 0.25; const float COPPER_VALUE = 0.05; which means that basically for every diamond there are 5 rubies, and for every ruby there are 2 emeralds. So on and so forth. and the "gold value" for every diamond for example is 50 (diamond value = 50) this is how much one diamond is worth in golds. my problem is converting 40.5 into these diamonds and ruby values. I know the answer is 4rubies and 2silvers but how do i write the algorithm for this so that it gives the best estimate for every goldvalue that comes along??

  • Can someone describe the nested set model from a C#/LINQ perspective?

    I know the nested set model doesn't pertain to the C# language or LINQ directly... it's what I'm using to develop my web app. For hierarchical data (categories with sub-categories in my case), I'm currently using something similar to the Adjacency List model. At the moment, I've only got 2 levels of categories, but I'd like to take it further and allow for n levels of categories using the nested set model. I'm not quite clear on how to use it in a C# context. Here's the article I'm reading on the nested set model. Though this article cleared up my confusion some, I still have a big ?? in my head: - Is inserting, updating or deleting categories tedious? It looks like the left and right numbers would require re-numbering... what would the LINQ queries look like for the following scenarios? Delete a child node (re-number all node's left/right values) Delete a parent node (what do you do with the orphans?) Move a child node to a different parent node (renumber again) If my understanding is correct, at all times the child node's left/right values will always be between the parent node's left/right values, am I correct? Seems easy enough, if only the categories were static... most likely I need to spend more time to get my head around the concept. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • NSUserDefaults not saving properly

    Hey Guys I'm having issues with NSUserDefaults and I don't quite understand what's going on My App has 5 levels and each level does the exact same thing with NSUserDefaults (Retrieves the levels defaults, changes the value as the user plays the level and then sets the defaults and syncronizes at the end of the level) the first 4 levels...work without a hitch but the last level doesn't save the values. The app doesn't crash and the last level isn't the very last thing that happens, And I even have the defaults synchronized when the application terminates.
