  • Sharing Code, Images and Core Data models across iPhone and Mac project

    - by Robert
    Hi, I am maintaining a fairly large mac project and an iphone client for this project. Some code as well as some images and core data models are shared between these two projects. I want to create a shared framework containing this shared components but to my surprise, frameworks like we cocoa developers known them are not supported on the iphone os. Currently I see the following options: a) Include the files in both projects (much tedious work) b) Create a static library for both projects and manually copying the images/core data models c) Create a static lib for iphone and a framework for mac Any suggestions?

  • Fractional Calculator in Java

    - by user2888881
    I am trying to create a fractional calculator in Java with inputs of mixed fractions, proper fractions, improper fractions or integers. It should include the four basic operators as well. The program should be set up as a loop where it is continuous until the user types "quit". I have coded the beginning loop but have no idea where to go from there. Please help, I am a beginner and would really appreciate it. Thank you again. This is what I have so far: import java.util.*; public class FractionCalculator { private static Scanner input; public static void main(String[] args) { input = new Scanner(System.in); String x = "quit"; System.out.println("Enter a fraction"); while (true) { String y = input.next(); if (y.equals(x)) { break; } } } }

  • how to compress a PNG image using Java

    - by 116213060698242344024
    Hi I would like to know if there is any way in Java to reduce the size of an image (use any kind of compression) that was loaded as a BufferedImage and is going to be saved as an PNG. Maybe some sort of png imagewriteparam? I didnt find anything helpful so im stuck. heres a sample how the image is loaded and saved public static BufferedImage load(String imageUrl) { Image image = new ImageIcon(imageUrl).getImage(); bufferedImage = new BufferedImage(image.getWidth(null), image.getHeight(null), BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB); Graphics2D g2D = bufferedImage.createGraphics(); g2D.drawImage(image, 0, 0, null); return bufferedImage; } public static void storeImageAsPng(BufferedImage image, String imageUrl) throws IOException { ImageIO.write(image, "png", new File(imageUrl)); }

  • Singleton pattern with Web application, Not a good idea!!

    - by Tony
    Hi I found something funny, I notice it by luck while I was debugging other thing. I was applying MCP pattern and I made a singleton controller to be shared among all presentations. Suddenly I figured out that some event is called once at first postback, twice if there is two postback, 100 times if there is 100 postbacks. because Singleton is based on a static variable which hold the instance, and the static variable live across postbacks, and I wired the event assuming that it will be wired once, and rewired for each postback. I think we should think twice before applying a singleton in a web application, or I miss something?? thanks

  • Where and why JVM checks that the return type of entry method main(String args[]) is void and not an

    - by akjain
    I will try to answer both, please correct me if I am wrong: Where: If a static method is being called using Classname.method() or using reflection then it doesn’t matter even if you change the return type of the calling method, the same method will still be called. So JVM probably checks this in one of the native methods of jvm.cpp methodHandle m (THREAD, init_klass-find_method(vmSymbols::object_initializer_name(), vmSymbols::void_method_signature())); if (m.is_null()) { ------ THROW_MSG_0 ……….. Why: Although it’s of useless to return a value from main, as java does not do anything with it but if we try to change the return type of main to int for example, JVM throws public static int main(String[] args) { return 1; } java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: main Exception in thread "main" So may be Java mandates the use of same signature for entry method main() to maintain a symmetry in all Java programs written.

  • Is there a method to retrieve the file name of a class?

    - by Dran Dane
    Hello Is there a method to retrieve the file name of a class? Specifically I would like to create a static method (CreateLink) in a base class (BasePage) to automatically return the path and filename of the page called. I code in .C# ASP.NET private const string TEMPLATE = "~/One.aspx"; public static HyperLink CreateLink() { HyperLink link = new HyperLink(); link.Text = "Click here"; link.NavigateUrl = String.Format(TEMPLATE); return link; } Is it possible to avoid the use of TEMPLATE hardcoded variable? Is it possible to retrieve the One.aspx path from file name and location?

  • How do I convert a number (as a String) to an array of bytes in Java?

    - by user1795595
    I'm creating a method specific method for a java project i'm working on. The UML given specifies the return type to be of static byte[] that accepts the arguments (String, byte) So far, looks like this: public static byte[] convertNumToDigitArray(String number, byte numDigits) { } This method is supposed to convert a number (as a String) to an array of bytes. The ordering must go from most to least significant digits. For example, if the number String is “732” then index 0 of the array should contain 7. The last argument (numDigits) should match the length of the string passed in. How do I do this?

  • Special simple random number generator

    - by psihodelia
    How to create a function, which on every call generates a random integer number? This number must be most random as possible (according to uniform distribution). It is only allowed to use one static variable and at most 3 elementary steps, where each step consists of only one basic arithmetic operation of arity 1 or 2. Example: int myrandom(void){ static int x; x = some_step1; x = some_step2; x = some_step3; return x; } Basic arithmetic operations are +,-,%,and, not, xor, or, left shift, right shift, multiplication and division. Of course, no rand(), random() or similar staff is allowed.

  • Debugging metaprograms [C++]

    - by atch
    Hi, Is there any way to check step by step what's going on in let's say template? I mean how it is instantiated step by step and so on? In book I've mentioned here , I found (2 minutes ago) quite interesting example of how binary could be implemented as a metafunction. template <unsigned long N> struct binary { static unsigned const value = binary<N/10>::value << 1 // prepend higher bits | N%10; // to lowest bit }; template <> // specialization struct binary<0> // terminates recursion { static unsigned const value = 0; }; and I think it could be quite useful to be able to see step by step what's been done during the instantiation of this template. Thanks for your replies.

  • How to code the set method of a Map with another Map as value?

    - by Nazgulled
    I normally do this to set a new Map to a private variable: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Clausula> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Clausula>(nvLista); } I suppose this is ok to set a new copy of the nvLista and all it's members and not a reference, is it? But now I have a Map inside another Map and I'm doing this: public static void setListaClausulas(Map<String, Map<String, Clausula>> nvLista) { listaClausulas = new TreeMap<String, Map<String, Clausula>>(nvLista); } Is this the correct way to do it or do you recommend something else? What I want is to set a new copy of nvLista (and all it's elements) and not copy just the reference.

  • wp7 and dependency property : onChanged and onRead?

    - by user233150
    hi here's my question : well I want build a wp7 control,so I write it and all go well, but the problem is that I can intercept on write(see onItemsSourcePropertyChanged)but not on read I would like explain better: public static readonly DependencyProperty ItemsSourceProperty= DependencyProperty.Register( "ItemsSource", typeof(ObservableCollection<ObjWithDesc>), typeof(HorizontalListBox), new PropertyMetadata(OnItemsSourcePropertyChanged) ); static void OnItemsSourcePropertyChanged(DependencyObject obj,DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { ((HorizontalListBox) obj).OnItemsSourcePropertyChanged(e); } OnItemsSourcePropertyChanged is called when I use SetValue(dp,..) but there isn't onItemsSourcePropertyRead ? that is called when I Use GetValue()? thanks

  • How do I setup Eclipse to stop on the line an exception occured?

    - by Chris Persichetti
    Hi, How can I setup Eclipse to stop at the point an exception occurred. I have an Eclipse breakpoint setup to break on an exception. In the code example below, the problem I'm having is Eclipse tries to open the Integer source code. Is there any way to just have debugger break at the point shown in my code example? If I move down the stack trace, I will get to this line, it'd be nice if there's a way to do this without the "Source not found" window coming up. This can be done in Visual Studio, so it's driving me crazy not being able to find a way to do this in Eclipse. package com.test; public class QuickTest { public static void main(String[] args) { try { test(); } catch(NumberFormatException e) { System.out.println(e.getMessage()); } } private static void test() { String str = "notAnumber"; Integer.parseInt(str);//<----I want debugger to stop here } }

  • Does Java have "properties" that work the same way properties work in C# (see the body of my text)?

    - by tyrone302
    In C#, you can use properties to make a data field publicly accessible (allowing the user to directly access it), and yet retain the ability to perform data validation on those directly-accessed fields. Doese Java have something similar? For Instance, suppose there exists a C# class with the following implementation(see below): public class newInt{ public newInt(){...} public int x{ get{ return this.x } set{ this.x = isValid(value) } } } private static int isValid(int value){...} This definition in the class allows the user to "naturally" use the data field 'x' when retrieving values from it and assigning values to it. Below is how it would be used in main. public class Test{ public static void main(String[] args){ newInt a = new newInt(); a.x = 50; int b = a.x; } } The question is... can java do this as well? if so, what is it called?

  • String.valueOf(int value) gives error [closed]

    - by Davidrd91
    I am trying to convert an int into a String so that I can put the String values into an SQLite Cursor. I've tried multiple syntax and methods but none seem to work for me. The Error occurs in MangaItemDB() while trying to convert any Int types aswell as the boolean. I've looked through several articles like this one but none works for me. Here's my code: public class MangaItem { private int _id; private String mangaName; private String mangaLink; private static String mangaAlpha; private static int mangaCount; private static int alphaCount; private boolean mangaComplete = false; public MangaItem MangaItemDB(int id, String mangaName, String mangaLink, String mangaAlpha, String mangaCount, String alphaCount, String mangaComplete) { MangaItem MangaItemDB = new MangaItem(); MangaItemDB._id = id; MangaItemDB.mangaName = mangaName; MangaItemDB.mangaLink = mangaLink; MangaItemDB.mangaAlpha = mangaAlpha; MangaItemDB.mangaCount = String.valueOf(int mangaCount); MangaItemDB.alphaCount = Integer.toString(getAlphaCount()); MangaItemDB.mangaComplete = String.valueOf(getMangaComplete()); return MangaItemDB; } public void incrementMangaCount() { mangaCount++; } public int getMangaCount() { return mangaCount; } public void incrementAlphaCount() { alphaCount++; } public int getAlphaCount() { return alphaCount; } public boolean setMangaComplete(boolean mangaComplete) { return true; } public boolean getMangaComplete() { return mangaComplete; } /** * @return the mangaName */ public String getMangaName() { return mangaName; } /** * @param mangaName the mangaName to set */ public void setMangaName(String mangaName) { this.mangaName = mangaName; } /** * @return the mangaLink */ public String getMangaLink() { return mangaLink; } /** * @param mangaLink the mangaLink to set */ public void setMangaLink(String mangaLink) { this.mangaLink = mangaLink; } /** * @return the mangaAlpha */ public String getMangaAlpha() { return mangaAlpha; } /** * @param mangaAlpha the mangaAlpha to set */ public void setMangaAlpha(String mangaAlpha) { this.mangaAlpha = mangaAlpha; } /** * @return the _id */ public int get_id() { return _id; } /** * @param _id the _id to set */ public void set_id(int _id) { this._id = _id; } } The lines : MangaItemDB.mangaCount = String.valueOf(mangaCount); MangaItemDB.alphaCount = Integer.toString(getAlphaCount()); MangaItemDB.mangaComplete = String.valueOf(getMangaComplete()); all give "Type mismatch: cannot convert from String to Int"

  • XAML Binding to property

    - by imslavko
    I have check box in my XAML+C# Windows Store application. Also I have bool property: WindowsStoreTestApp.SessionData.RememberUser which is public and static. I want check box's property IsChecked to be consistent (or binded, or mapped) to this bool property. I tried this: XAML <CheckBox x:Name="chbRemember1" IsChecked="{Binding Mode=TwoWay}"/> C# chbRemember1.DataContext = SessionData.RememberUser; Code for property: namespace WindowsStoreTestApp { public class SessionData { public static bool RememberUser { get; set; } } } But it doesn't seem to work. • safe dereferencing and deletion

    - by serejko
    Hi, I'm relatively new to C++ and OOP in general and currently trying to make such a class that allows to dereference and delete a dead or invalid pointer without any care of having undefined behavior or program fault in result, and I want to ask you is it a good idea and is there something similar which is already implemented by someone else? or maybe I'm doing something completely wrong? I've just started making it and here is the code I currently have: template<class T> class SafeDeref { public: T& operator *() { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) return *this; return theDefaultObject; } T* operator ->() { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) return this; return &theDefaultObject; } void* operator new(size_t size) { void* ptr = malloc(size * sizeof(T)); if (ptr != 0) theStore.insert(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); return ptr; } void operator delete(void* ptr) { hash_set<T*>::iterator it = theStore.find(reinterpret_cast<T*>(ptr)); if (it != theStore.end()) { theStore.erase(it); free(ptr); } } protected: static bool isInStore(T* ptr) { return theStore.find(ptr) != theStore.end(); } private: static T theDefaultObject; static hash_set<T*> theStore; }; The idea is that each class with the safe dereference should be inherited from it like this: class Foo : public SafeDeref<Foo> { void doSomething(); }; So... Any advices? Thanks in advance. P.S. If you're wondering why I need this... well, I'm creating a set of native functions for some scripting environment, and all of them use pointers to internally allocated objects as handles to them and they're able to delete them as well (input data can be wrong), so this is kinda protection from damaging host application's memory And I really sorry for my bad English

  • "Method name expected" error when trying add a handler method to a delegate - C#

    - by zakplayyy
    I keep getting the error "Method name expected" when trying add the a method to a delegate. I have a delegate which is invoked when ever my game ends. The function I'm trying to add to the delegate stops a countdown from flashing (the method is in a static class). I've searched about and I'm still unsure why its not working. Here is the line causing the error: LivesManager.gameEnded += new LivesManager.EndGame(CountdownManager.DisableFlashTimer(this)); The this passes the current form to the method so it can disable the timer flash on the form. I have added methods from static classes to the same delegate before and it works fine, the only difference is that I'm passing the form as a paramater and then it doesn't like it. Is there any way to pass the form to the method without the error? Thanks in advance :)
