What would be the best approach to parallelise this? If I wrap iCount with omp single or omp atomic then the code gives an error and I figured out that would be invalid inside omp for. I guess I am adding many extraneous stuffs to paralellise this. Need some advice... Thanks, Sayan

• How to effectively draw on desktop in C#?

  I want to draw directly on the desktop in C#. From searching a bit, I ended up using a Graphics object from the Desktop HDC (null). Then, I painted normally using this Graphics object. The problem is that my shapes get lost when any part of the screen is redrawn. I tried a While loop, but it actually ends up drawing as fast as the application can, which is not the update rate of the desktop. Normally, I would need to put my drawing code in a "OnPaint" event, but such thing does not exist for the desktop. How would I do it?   Is there way to initialize a numpy array of a shape and add to it? I will explain what I need with a list example. If I want to create a list of objects generated in a loop, I can do: a = [] for i in range(5): a.append(i) I want to do something similar with a numpy array. I know about vstack, concatenate etc. However, it seems these require two numpy arrays as inputs. What I need is: big_array # Initially empty. This is where I don't know what to specify for i in range(5): array i of shape = (2,4) created. add to big_array The big_array should have a shape (10,4). How to do this? Thanks for your help.

I then loop these two nodes suchas: foreach (XmlNode node in nodes) { } However, when i call node.SelectNodes("/a/b/c"); It still returns both values and not just the descendants. Is it possible to select nodes only descening from the current node?

• Python: Trying to get index of an intersection

  I have the following line of code: for i in [i for i,x in enumerate(catdate) if x == set(NNSRCfile['datetimenew']).intersection(catdate)]: print i I am trying to find the index of the intersection for the two components above. Both are lengthy lists that have several commonalities. The intersection part works perfectly; however, the for loop seems to output nothing. (ie: there is nothing that is printed). Python outputs no error, and when I run the code in IPython, I notice that i is equivalent to to the very last element in the list "catdate", instead of listing the indices of "catdate" that are equivalent to the intersection values. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  Hello, everyone I cannot get a way to terminate a thread that is hung in a socket.recvfrom() call. For example, ctrl+c that should trigger KeyboardInterrupt exception can't be caught.   I have a class which is being operated on by two functions. One function creates a list of widgets and writes it into the class: def updateWidgets(self): widgets = self.generateWidgetList() self.widgets = widgets the other function deals with the widgets in some way: def workOnWidgets(self): for widget in self.widgets: self.workOnWidget(widget) each of these functions runs in it's own thread. the question is, what happens if the updateWidgets() thread executes while the workOnWidgets() thread is running? I am assuming that the iterator created as part of the for...in loop will keep some kind of reference to the old self.widgets object? So I will finish iterating over the old list... but I'd love to know for sure.

  Since I was 12, I was always wondering how I can make a function which calculates the power (e.g. 23) myself. In most languages these are included in the standard library, mostly as pow(double x, double y), but how can I write it myself? I was thinking about for loops, but it think my brain got in a loop (when I wanted to do a power with a non-integer exponent, like 54.5 or negatives 2-21) and I went crazy ;) So, how can I write a function which calculates the power of a real number?   I’m writing an objective-c program that does some calculations based on time and will eventually updates UILabels each second. To explain the concept here’s some simplified code, which I’ve placed into the viewDidLoad of the class that handles the view. (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // how do i make this stuff happen AFTER the view has loaded?? int a = 1; while (a < 10) { NSLog(@"doing something"); a = a + 1; sleep(1); } } My problem is that the code halts the loading of the view until the loop is all complete (in this case 10 seconds). Where should I put code that I want to fire AFTER the view has finished loading? newbie question I know =/

• real time updates for new page events

  I know there's a few questions knocking around on this topic but none quite the same. I'm currently searching by location for all the pages relating to a particular geographic location and caching their events in a database. The problem being I have to currently loop through all the pages i'm watching frequently to check for updates. At the moment the 10,000 Pages I'm keeping track of takes a good while to update. It would be much neater (and nicer to fb) to be notified instead of polling. Does anyone know of a more efficient to do this? Thanks Ben

• SQL Server Agent 2005 job runs but no output

  Essentially I have a job which runs in BIDS and as as a stand lone package and while it runs under the SQL Server Agent it doesn't complete properly (no error messages though). The job steps are: 1) Delete all rows from table; 2) Use For each loop to fill up table from Excel spreasheets; 3) Clean up table. I've tried this [MS page][1] (steps 1 & 2), didn't see any need to start changing from Server side security. Also SQLServerCentral.com for [this page][2], no resolution. How can I get error logging or a fix? Note I've reposted this from Server Fault as it's one of those questions that's not pure admin or programming. I have logged in as the proxy account I'm running this under, and the job runs stand alone but complains that the Excel tables are empty?

  Hi, I'm trying to read a file byte by byte, but I'm not sure how to do that. I'm trying to do it like that: file = open(filename, 'rb') while 1: byte = file.read(8) # Do something... So does that make the variable byte to contain 8 next bits at the beginning of every loop? It doesn't matter what those bytes really are. The only thing that matters is that I need to read a file in 8-bit stacks. EDIT: Also I collect those bytes in a list and I would like to print them so that they don't print out as ASCII characters, but as raw bytes i.e. when I print that bytelist it gives the result as ['10010101', '00011100', .... ]

• How do I detect when a cell's value has changed in Silverlight?

  Hey folks, I'm working in Silverlight, trying to figure out how to set a grid cell font color based on the contents of the cell. I have an ObservableCollection bound to a DataGrid, and my items implement INotifyPropertyChanged so the grid updates as I change the values; it's all working perfectly, including letting me sort items and keep the sorting while I update the underlying items. I know I can use the LoadingRow event to change colors, but the only way I can get the event to fire is by changing the grids datasource, in which case my sorting goes out the window. So, what I really want is a way to either 1) loop the rows in the datagrid, find the cell I need, and change it's color or 2) implement a custom column that I can use to dynamically set the color. The problem is how to actually do either of those things :) All suggestions welcome.

• C# Class Instantiation Overflow

  Scenario I have a C# Win Forms App, where the Main Form contains a loop that creates 3000 Instances of another form (Form B). Inside Form B there are a large number of properties and fields and a bunch of methods that do a fair amount of processing. Question Will the creation of 3000 of these classes give me problems? I'm thinking along the lines of memory exceptions? I've had 1 or 2 already, and I've also had an exception that says something along the lines of "Something went bang and this is usually a sign of corrupt memory somewhere else". Setup I'm using a DevExpress Ribbon Form and I haven't implemented Dispose on anything....Do I need to? Help greatly appreciated.

• CORE DATA objectId changes constantly

  Hello, I have some data that I export into an XML file and put in a remote FTP Server. I have to identified each object with a unique attribute, it doesn't matter wich is, but must be persistent always = it can never change. I don't want to create a unique attribute, sequence, serial, etc. I'm using the objectID but every time I use it a get a new reference. I know that before the object has been saved, it has a 'temporal id', but once it's saved, it gets the definitive. I'm not seeing this, never.   I've got a bash function that I'm trying to use getopts with and am having some trouble. The function is designed to be called by itself (getch), with an optional -s flag (getch -s), or with an optional string argument afterward (so getch master and getch -s master are both valid). • Optimal Sharing of heavy computation job using Snow and/or multicore

  Hi, I have the following problem. First my environment, I have two 24-CPU servers to work with and one big job (resampling a large dataset) to share among them. I've setup multicore and (a socket) Snow cluster on each. As a high-level interface I'm using foreach. What is the optimal sharing of the job? Should I setup a Snow cluster using CPUs from both machines and split the job that way (i.e. use doSNOW for the foreach loop). Or should I use the two servers separately and use multicore on each server (i.e. split the job in two chunks, run them on each server and then stich it back together). Basically what is an easy way to: 1. Keep communication between servers down (since this is probably the slowest bit). 2. Ensure that the random numbers generated in the servers are not highly correlated.

• Redirect in combination with a rewrite condition in htaccess

  Hi all! I've got a cms-driven website, with no option to change the code. What I want to accomplish is creating friendly url's, using only apaches mod-rewrite engine. The problem is I'm creating an infinite loop, because I first redirect the original url (index.php?id=21) to a friendly one (/friendly/) and then rewrite the '/friendly' part back to 'id=21' I know there should be an extra condition or parameter to avoid looping in this case, but I can´t get one of the possible solutions to work.
