  I have a SQL 2008 table with a field called RecDate of type DateTimeOffset. For a given record the value is '2010-04-01 17:19:23.62 -05:00' In C# I create a DataTable and fill it with the results of "SELECT RecDate FROM MyTable". I need to get the milliseconds, but if I do the following the milliseconds are always 0: DateTimeOffset dto = DateTimeOffset.Parse(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); What is the proper way to get the value in the RecDate column into the dto variable? So this means we can have 1000's of cameras sending data 24X7 for recording. We will store data for over 7 / 14 / 30 days depending on the package. Per day if a camera is sending data to the server then it will store 1.5GB. So that means there is a traffic of 1.5GB / day / camera Total monthly 45GB / month / camera (Data + bandwidth for one camera) Please let me know the most cost effective way to get this data stored?   Hi I want to conduct search on a particular column of a table in such a way that returning result set should satify following 2 conditions: Returning result set should have records whose 90% of the characters matches with the given search text. Returning result set should have records whose 70% of the consecutive characters matches with the given search text. It implies that when 10 character word Sukhminder is searched, then: it should return records like Sukhmindes, ukhminder, Sukhmindzr, because it fulfils both of the above mentioned conditions. But it should not return records like Sukhmixder because it does not fulfil the second condition. Likewise, It should not return record Sukhminzzz because it does not fulfil the first condition. I am trying to use Full Text Search feature of SQL Server. But, could not formulate the required query yet. Kindly reply ASAP.

  This is my script - it simply looks for the image file associated to a person record. Now the error will display if there is NO .jpg evident when the query runs. Msg 4860, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot bulk load. The file "C:\Dev\ClientServices\Defence\RAN\Shore\Config\Photos\002054.2009469432270600.001.jpg" does not exist. Is there a way to write this query to 'IF not exists then set id_number = '002054.2009469432270427.001' - so it wil always display this photo for any records without a picture. My only problem is I want the new record at the TOP of the list, not the bottom. Is there an elegant and easy way to do this, or am I going to have to do the new element separately, or loop through the list manually?

• Screen recorder for tracking back your steps while debugging?

  I am wondering whether there is a screen recorder that is usable for checking what exactly you did a couple of minutes ago while debugging, or just checking what value for a variable was displayed the last time you hit that breakpoint etc. (Of course this latter question would be something terrific for an IDE to implement, but I've never seen something like that so far. :-) For this you would need a screen recorder that could record all day and preferably automatically delete the recording the recording that is, say, older than an hour. Probably the recording format should be something that is good for screen recording instead of natural scenes. Do you know a screen recorder like that or at least one that comes close?

• Best means to store data locally when offline

  I am in the midst of writing a small program (more to experiment with vs 2010 than anything else) Despite being an experiment it has some practical use for our local athletics club. My thought was to access the DB (currently online) to download the current members and store locally on a laptop (this is a MS sql table, used to power the club's website). take the laptop to the event (yes there ARE places that don't have internet coverage), add members to that days race (also a row from a sql table (though no changes would be made to this), record results (new records in 3rd table) Once home, showered and within internet access again, upload/edit the tables as per the race results/member changes etc. So I was thinking i'd do something like write xml files locally with the data, including a field to indicate changes etc? If anyone can point me in a direction i would appreciate it...hell if anyone could tell me if this has a name, I'd appreciate it.

  Hi, Hoping someone can assist or point me in the right direction to another thread/url with regards to disabled checkboxes. I basically have a couple of checkboxes in my form, that are not database items but am retrieving the source value based on a database column. As I do not want the user to be able to change these checboxes, I have disabled these checboxes When I query a record, the form at start-up retrieves the value for the checkbox with no issues. The problem is, when I hit a validation error on my form when the page is submitted, my checkbox values that were originally retrieved as 'Y', i.e checked are now null. Can anyone pls assist with what is going on or a workaround inorder to maintain these values when a validation error occurs. Thanks.

• TStringList and TThread that does not free all of its memory

  Version used: Delphi 7. I'm working on a program that does a simple for loop on a Virtual ListView. The data is stored in the following record: type TList=record Item:Integer; SubItem1:String; SubItem2:String; end; Item is the index. SubItem1 the status of the operations (success or not). SubItem2 the path to the file. The for loop loads each file, does a few operations and then, save it. The operations take place in a TStringList. Files are about 2mb each. Now, if I do the operations on the main form, it works perfectly. Multi-threaded, there is a huge memory problem. Somehow, the TStringList doesn't seem to be freed completely. After 3-4k files, I get an EOutofMemory exception. Sometimes, the software is stuck to 500-600mb, sometimes not. In any case, the TStringList always return an EOutofMemory exception and no file can be loaded anymore. On computers with more memory, it takes longer to get the exception. The same thing happens with other components. For instance, if I use THTTPSend from Synapse, well, after a while, the software cannot create any new threads because the memory consumption is too high. It's around 500-600mb while it should be, max, 100mb. On the main form, everything works fine. I guess the mistake is on my side. Maybe I don't understand threads enough. I tried to free everything on the Destroy event. I tried FreeAndNil procedure. I tried with only one thread at a time. I tried freeing the thread manually (no FreeOnTerminate...) No luck. So here is the thread code. It's only the basic idea; not the full code with all the operations. If I remove the LoadFile prodecure, everything works good. What could be the problem? I thought at one point that, maybe, too many threads are created. If a user loads 1 million files, well, ultimately, 1 million threads is going to be created -- although, only 50 threads are created and running at the same time. Thanks for your input.

  Hi. I'm working on a pl sql stored procedure. What I need is to do a select, use a cursor and for every record build a string using values. At the end I need to write this into a file. I try to use dbms_output.put_line("toto") but the buffer size is to small because I have about 14 millions lines. I call my procedure from a unix ksh. I'm thinking at something like using "spool on" (on the ksh side) to dump the result of my procedure, but I don' know how to do it (if this is possible) Anyone has any idea? Thank alot. C.C.

  I am building a system of multiple trackers that are going to use a lot of the same columns so there is a table for the trackers, the tracker columns, then a cross reference for which columns go with which tracker, when a user inserts a tracker row the different column values are stored in multiple rows that share the same record id and store both the value and the name of the particular column. I need to find a way to dynamically change the column name of the value to be the column name that is stored in the same row. i.e. id | value | name ------------------ 23 | red | color 23 | fast | speed needs to look like this. id | color | speed ------------------ 23 | red | fast Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

  I'm reading some data from avro file using the avro library. It takes about a minute to load 33K objects from the file. This seem very slow to me, specially with the Java version reading the same file in about 1sec. I was using the second way fine in one test but in another test the behaviour can not be achieved unless I go with the first way.   Hi, Im loading an entity 'Member' from its id in route data. [ListItemsForMembershipType(true)] public ActionResult Edit(Member someMember) {...} The attribute on the action loads the membership type list items for a dropdown box and sticks it in viewdata. This is fine for add forms, and search forms (it gets all active items) but I need the attribute to execute BASED ON THE VALUE someMember.MembershipTypeId, because its current value must always be present when loading the item (i.e. all active items, plus the one from the loaded record). So the question is, what is the standard pattern for this? How can my attribute accept the value or should I be loading the viewdata for the drop down in a controller supertype or during model binding or something else? It is in an attribute now because the code to set the viewdata would otherwise be duplicated in each usage in each action.

• Designing a table to store EXIF data

  I'm looking to get the best performance out of querying a table containing EXIF data. The queries in question will only search the EXIF data for the specified strings and return the row index on a match. With that said, would it better to store the EXIF data in a table with separate columns for each of the tags, or would storing all of the tags in a single column as one long delimited string suit me just as well? There are around 115 EXIF tags I'll be storing, and each record would be around 1500 to 2000 chars in length if concatenated into a single string.

• storing huge amount of records into classic asp cache object is SLOW

  we have some nasty legacy asp that is performing like a dog and i narrowed it down to because we are trying to store 15K+ records into the application cache object. but that's not the killer. before it stores it, it converts the ADO stream to XML then stores it. this conversion of the huge record set to XML spikes the CPU and causes all kinds of havoc on users when it's happening. and unfortunately we do this XML conversion to read the cache a lot, causing site wide performance problems. i don't have the resources to convert everything to .net. so that's out. but i need to obviously use caching, but int his case the caching is hurting instead of helping. is there a more effecient way to store this data instead of doing this xml conversion to/from every time we read/update the cache?

• How to step frames in a movie recorded by iPhone

  Is there a way to have my iPhone program step frame by frame through a movie recorded by the iPhone? What I want to do is have the user record a quicktime movie, then be able to step through the movie frame by frame. Alternately, I suppose if there was a way to extract every single frame from the movie to a jpg, then I could easily step through the pictures. Anyone know of a way to do this??? I suppose the third option (which might not get past Apple's store) is to capture the movie the way the old jailbroken apps did, which is somehow capture the pictures directly from the camera view????   Hello all! I am using Hibernate and getting Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.ObjectNotFoundException: No row with the given identifier exists: [<MyDbObject>#271] What is pretty weird about this error is, that the object with the given id exists in the database. I inserted the problematic record in another run of the application. If I access it in the same run (i.e. same hibernate session) there seem to be no problems retrieving the data. Just because it could be a fault of the mapping: public class ProblemClass { @ManyToOne(optional = false) private MyDbObject myDbObject; } public class MyDbObject { @OneToMany(mappedBy = "myDbObject") private List<ProblemClass> problemClasses; } I have absolutely no clue even where to look at. Any hints highly appreciated!

My structure is set up as follows: GetResources() - returns a list of Resources. GetResources().ResourceNames - this is the child, which is an entity collection.
