jquery: How to deal with 'this' in ajax callbacks

In the end where I remove the busy data from the form, I'd like to somehow not have that hard coded. Is there any way I can do this? Is there a way I can hand whatever is in this to the post callback function? Since I know the id right now, I can get around it by doing what I have done, but I'd like to know how to not be dependant on knowing the id, since often I don't have an id. (For example if I have a link in each row in a table and all the rows have the same click handler.

Using input type="submit" to change content

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm missing something very obvious here, but I just couldn't find a proper solution so far. What I'm trying to do is simple: Have a user write something into a form, have him submit the form, and write that input into a textarea on the same page. This is my code: <html><head></head> <body> <form name='registration'> <label for="input">Input:</label> <input type="text" id="input"/> <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" onclick="execute()"/> </form> <div id="results"> <span>Result</span> <span><textarea cols="30" rows="5" id="resulttext" readonly="readonly"></textarea> </span> </div> <script> function execute() { var result = document.getElementById("input").value document.getElementById("resulttext").value=result; } </script> </body> </html> Now what happens if I enter something into the form is that the textarea briefly shows my input before reverting back to showing nothing. My guess is that the textarea field is only changed for the duration of the execute() function. When I change input type="submit" to a <button> everything works as intended, but I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to do that.

The form allows for file uploads and text input, so the data is sent in both $_POST and $_FILES arrays. The the initial set of inputs look like this: <input type="text" name="question[1][text]" /> <input type="file" name="question[1][file]" /> <input type="text" class="a" name="answer[1][text][]" /> <input type="file" name="answer[1][file][]" /> When duplicated the fields are incremented, they look like this: <input type="text" name="question[2][text]" /> <input type="file" name="question[2][file]" /> <input type="text" class="a" name="answer[2][text][]" /> <input type="file" name="answer[2][file][]" /> To complicate matters, the "answer" form fields can also be duplicated (thus the [] at the end of the 'answer' name array. How can I parse the posted $_FILES array? I have tried something like this: foreach ($_FILES['question'] as $p_num) { echo $p_num['file']['name']; foreach ($_FILES['answer'] as $a_num) { echo $a_num['file']['name']; } } but I get an "Undefined index: file... " error. How can I parse out the posted values.

Forms blank when rendering a partial when using a collection of objects. Help!

Alright, I know my title is a little obscure but it best describes the problem I am having. Essentially, I have a list of users, and want to be able to edit their information in-line using AJAX. Since the users are showing up in rows, I am using a partial to render the data and the forms (which will be hidden initially by the ajax), however, when the rows are rendered currently only the last item has it's form's fields populated. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that all the form fields have the same id's and it is confusing the DOM. But I don't know how to make sure the id's are unique. Here is a small example: In my view: <%= render :partial => 'shared/user', :collection => @users %> My partial (broke down to just the form) note that I am using the local variable "user" <% form_for user, :html => {:multipart => true} do |f| -%> <%= f.label :name, "Name*" %> <%= f.text_field :title, :class => "input" %> <%= f.label :Address, "Address" %> <%= f.text_field :address, :class => "input" %> <%= f.label :description, "Description*" %> <%= f.text_area :description, :class => "input" %> <% end -%> When the html is rendered each form has a unique id (for the id of the user) but the elements themselves all have the same id, and only the last user form is actually getting populated with values. Accessing HTML DOM elements from javascript using `.childNodes`

I'm wondering about the .childNodes property, I have the code below, and for some reason I get 18 children, while 6 are HTMLInputElements as expected, and the rest are undefined. What is this about? Think this is a naming problem

It is laid out like (ul,li etc.) this so I can have each loaded form aligned under the relevant li. But I think there has to be a better way as I do not seem to get any if(){} stemnents working to process the forms i.e. if(form1){ $.ajax etc } if (form2) {more ajax} Suggestions please - thanks

I did see from some website, like facebook, youtube, google or twitter, they have different style. Wonder how they do it.

However the following doesn't work: select_link.up('form'); // returns undefined Yet, this does. select_link.up().up().up(); // returns HTMLFormElement Clearly this is an ancestor of a.select_all. The API Docs state Element.up() supports a CSSRule. What am I missing here?

Date or String declaration in a javabean

Should I declare an attribute in a javabean that holds a date value a user types in on an HTML form as a String or Date? I feel I should declare as a Date, however, since I do server validation on all form data, if the date doesn't validate, when I pass the form bean back to the jsp view for correcting, I lose the date value that the user tried to type in. If I declare as a String, if the date doesn't validate, I'm able to set the string value in the bean and pass the bean back to the view and the user can see what they incorrectly typed. But with a String declaration for Date inputs I forsee problems down the road with my DAO. I want to be able to use a DAO utility which generates a prepare statement using setObject. In my html form I request dates to be mm/dd/yyyy and in DAO i'm using Oracle Date. I can not use hibernate or such, since this is a corporate intranet. What is the best practice "pattern" I should be following??

Dealing with Struts2 float conversion type

I have a question regarding float type conversion in Struts2. I have a form that contains a serie of normal input elements. A serie of textfields with an add button by the side of each one is included in the window. Clicking on one of this buttons has the effect of adding an input type "hidden" inside the form with the value of its correspondent textfield. That value will often be a float number that, this is very important, uses the point format (example: 1.34). The inputs created look like this: <input class="hidden_material" type="hidden" name="form[0].cantidad_formulacion" value='1.34'"> <input class="hidden_material" type="hidden" name="form[1].cantidad_formulacion" value='1.54'"> Anyway, the whole proccess is made correctly until the data is used by the server after the form submission. The numbers are present as if the point wouldn't have been placed in the number (using the example above, as 134). If a comma is used (as in 1,34), there wouldn't be a problem. But that will not be the case with the users of the system. How could I solve this problem?

I'm expecting the same functionality as clicking the taskbar (or right-clicking and choosing restore). Alert user when they hit the browser back button - with good reson

I know this borders on the taboo here, and please don't reply with "you should never do this etc" I have a very long form in a wizard, some users are too used to using the browsers back and forward buttons that they use those instead of the "Back" and "Next" buttons on the form wizard. If they hit the browsers back button they lose all of their form data which is a pain in the ass, since form is so long. Is it possible to display an alert that when will have a "take me out of here" and a "cancel" button so if they hit cancel it will cancel the function of the back button? Thanks!

C# windows application, how to save & restore positions of child forms.
