  • FASM vc MASM trasnlation problem in mov si, offset msg

    hi folks, just did my first test with MASM and FASM with the same code (almos) and I falled in trouble. The only difference is that to produce just the 104 bytes I need to write to MBR in FASM I put org 7c00h and in MASM 0h. The problem is on the mov si, offset msg that in the first case transletes it to 44 7C (7c44h) and with masm translates to 44 00 (0044h)! but just when I change org 7c00h to org 0h in MASM. Otherwise it will produce the entire segment from 0 to 7dff. how do I solve it? or in short, how to make MASM produce a binary that begins at 7c00h as it first byte and subsequent jumps remain relative to 7c00h? .model TINY .code org 7c00h ; Boot entry point.     If I have a paid app on Android Market, will my merchant API callback URL get a hit when the customer goes to check out? I am wondering how merchants/vendors/developers secure their applications for android market. I have used google checkout before to implement a custom integration, so I understand how that all works. What I do not see anywhere that I have looked is what, if any, integration does the merchant/developer have with the Android Market checkout process? I understand that the market uses google checkout, but in that case the market hosts the checkout process and not the merchant, so it's not clear whether they give your URL a call. So where is the hook? Am I right in assuming it is the merchant API callback URL?

  • How to mix mongodb and a traditional db in Rails?

    I am considering using MongoDB (mongo-mapper) for a portion of my rails application. I am not ready to go whole hog MongoDB because there are too many useful gems that depend on a traditional DB. That being said there are parts of my application that would be great to leverage a document database. Has anyone had success mixing the two approaches?   • CakePHP: Can I ignore a field when reading the Model from the DB?

    In one of my models, I have a "LONGTEXT" field that has a big dump of a bunch of stuff that I never care to read, and it slows things down, since I'm moving much more data between the DB and the web app. Is there a way to specify in the model that I want CakePHP to simply ignore that field, and never read it or do anything with it? I really want to avoid the hassle of creating a separate table and a separate model, only for this field. Thanks! Daniel

  • SubSonic error: db.tables with a ~ in the name result in a "Character is not valid" error

    I renamed a database table and added a ~ character to the table name (my way of notifying it is a backup of something). After generating the SubSonic files, my Visual Studio gives a "Character not valid" error on file "AllStructs.vb" When looking into this file the following line of code was generated; Public Shared ReadOnly DbTable1~old As String = "dbtable1~old". I assume this character has to be filtered out of the db.table names when generating the SubSonic names?

  • How do I authenticate a Twitter user and access the API without leaving my iPhone app?

    I'd like to allow users to send out Tweets from my iPhone app. That's all the functionality I need at the moment. From what I know of the Twitter API, there's a standard authentication mechanism, which allows the developer to include the user's name and password in the request string that the application sends to Twitter. This method will no longer be supported come June 30, 2010. Given the timeframe, the better other choice is oAuth. One of the caveats of oAuth is that it requires a UIWebView to pop up within the app to allow the user to enter his or her credentials or a PIN number. None of the Twitter apps on my phone do this, however: Tweetie, TweetDeck and Twitterific. I assume they're using the first authentication method, but it seems like Twitter wouldn't deprecate an API that would hurt the user experience across the board. There must be an alternative method--what am I missing?

    Hi, I'm developing an iPhone application with FB connect, the JavaScript API includes really powerful methods like wait.on for combining requests... Any way using those API methods via iOS and Xcode? about the FQL responses, I'm using both: request:didReceiveResponse: AND request:didLoad: methods. all the FQL queries I send provoke didReceiveResponse but not all of them provoke the second one (didLoad). @"SELECT uid,eid FROM event_member WHERE uid in (select uid2 from friend where uid1=%d limit 100)", userID when the limit is 1-2 it provokes them all, when it grows too 100 (friends to fetch) it provokes only the first.. does anyone know this problem?   • Is it hacky to manually construct JSON and manually handle GET, POST instead of using a proper RESTful API for AJAX functionality?

    I started building a Django app, but this probably applies to other frameworks as well. In Backbone.js methods that call the server (fetch(), create(), destroy(), etc.), should you be using a proper RESTful API such as one provided by Tastypie or Django-Piston? I've founded it easier and more flexible to just construct the JSON in my Django Views, which are mapped to some URLs that Backbone.js can use. Then again, I'm probably not leveraging Tastypie/Django-Piston functionality to the fullest. I'm not ready to make a full-fledged RESTful API for my app yet. I simply would like to use some of the AJAXy functionality that Backbone.js supports. Pros/Cons of doing this?

    I vaguely remember reading a blog entry (written by a well-known blogger I think) about how to model price changes over time, and that you could model most changes by saving two dates only (two columns in a db). The blog talked about prices on a website changing over time and how you could figure out the right price to charge knowing only when the purchase had been made. Very vague, I know, but my google-fu is failing me, everyone at IRC are busy talking about other stuff and I don't know what to do! :)

  • Android equivalent work-around for View.getX() before API 11?

    I'm using the getX() and getY() method on a view for some special dragging logic (not animation, i.e. I never use setX/Y methods, I just need the getters to check). However, I've come to realize that these are only available post-API 11. The docs for getX() say that is it the addition of the 'left' property and the 'translationX' property. All well and good, except get/setTranslationX() is only around since API 11 as well. I was wondering if there was any knowledge on what this method returns behind the scenes, so I could maybe put in a workaround. Thanks for any help - Chase
