  • Uninstall file from Apache Tomcat Web Server

    I have a website deployed on an apache web server. I am using a windows installer to deploy and un-deploy this website from the server. During the uninstall I am just removing the .war from the webapp directory of the tomcat. Now when I do this the tomcat automatically removes all the folders created when it unpacked the war file. But it takes some time to remove those folders. I want to know if there is a way to force tomcat to remove the folder immediately by communicating to it with some external tool eg a script, xml-rpc etc?

  • Script to restart BlackBerry services

    Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart. Updates I am looking for something primarily for web development. Must be Free. +1 For relevant link(s). GUI Based only Conclusion I realized that gEdit is available for OS X. I met it back on Ubuntu 6. Something-or-other. We have a winner. all for input.

    Hello, I have a small office with 3 computers + my own laptop without any network between these computers. I would like to see keyboard log of each worker computer from my laptop without disturbing my workers. I should be able to see each keyboard log from my laptop (from GUI or e-mail message) Also, is it possible to limit the logging? For example I would not to see log of msn messenger, but I should see log of IE,Outlook etc...?

  • A good MP3/media player for Mac OS X?

    I've been trying to use iTunes now for about a year, and we just don't get on. So I tried instaling Windows Media Player for the Mac ... and there's no support for MP3s .. useless. I looked at Winamp, but this has to be run through wine or some other cocktail of programs. So this leads me to ask, are there a good (native) mp3 player for the Mac? I want something like Media Player on Windows or Winamp. I don't want something to re-organize my music directories, I have put the music in the directories they're in for a very good reason. Any suggestions?

  • What Is A Software Architect&rsquo;s Job Today?

    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/tmurphy/archive/2013/10/25/what-is-a-software-architectrsquos-job-today.aspx It was 2001 when a project manager first put my job title as architect on a statement of work.  A lot has changed over the last twelve years.  The concepts around what an architect is has evolved.  In the early days I would have said that they just rebranded the role of the system analyst.  Now we have a multitude of architect titles: application, solution, IT, data, enterprise.  Whatever the title the goals are the same.  An architect takes the business needs and maps them to the solutions that are needed and at the same time works to ensure the quality of the solution and its maintainability. One of the problems I see these days is that we are expecting every developer to have architect skills.  That in itself is not a problem.  This reduces the need for dedicated architects.  Not every developer though is going to be able to step up to this level.  Some are just good at solving small problems instead of thinking in the larger abstract. Another problem is the accelerating speed and breadth of new technologies and products.  For an architect to be good at his job he needs to spend large amounts of personal time studying just to stay relevant. In the end I don’t think the main objectives of an architect has changed, just the level of commitment needed to stay of value to your company.  Renew your commitment to your profession and keep delivering great solutions. The database assemblies are already patched to Oracle recommended levels. Customers running EM 12c in online mode (i.e. connected to My Oracle Support) will see the assemblies in their EM console (screenshot below). They can then deploy the Assemblies using the Self-Service Provisioning outlined in the "Cloud Administration Guide". The EM12c agent will be deployed along with the assemblies, so the databases will be managed automatically from the onset. You can also get a general demo of the cloud management features (including assembly deployment) in http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/oem/cloud-mgmt/index.html.     My site is using enterprise library v 5.0. Mainly the DAAB. Some functions such as executescalar, executedataset are working as expected. The problems appear when I start to use Readers I have this function in my includes class: Public Function AssignedDepartmentDetail(ByVal Did As Integer) As SqlDataReader Dim reader As SqlDataReader Dim Command As SqlCommand = db.GetSqlStringCommand("select seomthing from somewhere where something = @did") db.AddInParameter(Command, "@did", Data.DbType.Int32, Did) reader = db.ExecuteReader(Command) reader.Read() Return reader End Function This is called from my aspx.vb like so: reader = includes.AssignedDepartmentDetail(Did) If reader.HasRows Then TheModule = reader("templatefilename") PageID = reader("id") Else TheModule = "#" End If This gives the following error on db.ExecuteReader line: Unable to cast object of type 'Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.RefCountingDataReader' to type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader'. Can anyone shed any light on how I go about getting this working. Will I always run into problems when dealing with readers via entlib?

    I'm using Validation Application Block - Enterprise Library to validate parameters sent to my WCF Service operations. For instance, a certain operation requires the parameter to either be a 1 or 6, like so: [OperationContract(Name="GetEmployeesByRegion")] [FaultContract(typeof(ValidationFault))] List<Employees> GetEmployeesByRegion([DomainValidator(1,6)]int regionId); This works just fine i.e the validation fault occurs however, when the service is invoked by the client, a generic System.ServiceModel.FaultException is thrown. An the message indicates: "The creator of this fault did not specify a reason." Now, I could check the parameters myself before the service cal and throw a custom fault but that seems to defeat the purpose of attribute based validation of parameters using the Validation Application Block. Is there anyway to customize the error returned by the validation Fault? It is also possible I'm doing something completely wrong. I just want the caller to know that he/she should have passed in a 1 or 6 in the exception message. Is this possible?

    I am using the Logging Application Block (of Microsoft Enterprise Library) to log exceptions in the Event Viewer that occur in my WPF XBAP application. If I run the XBAP in the debugger from Visual Studio, an Event Source entry for my application is automatically created in the Registry at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Eventlog\Application\MyApp This occurs at the point ExceptionPolicy.HandleException() is called. However, if I run the XBAP outside of the IDE directly from the file system or from its published location, the Registry entry isn't added. Therefore, no logging takes place. I can only assume this is a security issue with running XBAP applications and they do not have access to write to the Registry. Is this a setting within my project? Any idea on why this might be happening? Any help much appreciated.

  • Why does 6.times.map work in ruby 1.8.7 but not 1.8.6

    The following code snippet works fine in 1.8.7 on Mac OS X, but not in 1.8.6 on Ubuntu. Why? Is there a workaround?   • What are the CS fundamentals behind package/dependency management?

    Often I hear about situations where companies are developing extensable in house software (the dreaded enterprise 'framework') which is supposed to support multiple 'plugins' from diffirent teams. Usually this ends up being a half baked solution that does not really work due to compatibility prolems between addins, or between addins and the framework itself. Usually this means QA have to 'rubber stamp' a global set of versions accross all plugins, or more usually plugins are released and stuff breaks in nasty ways. This problem has been solved before however, for example the package management systems like apt for debian linux. I suspect that the reason it works is that it is built from the start on a known 'Computer Science-y' concept. My question is what is it?

  • Where is App.config?

    I'm trying to set up logging with Microsoft's Enterprise Library (log4net seems to be a dead project). I'm using VB .NET 2008 and VS 2008. I've searched all over the MSDN documentation, CodePlex docs (including the Hands-On labs that installed and then vanished), and online tutorials to no avail. They all refer to a mysterious "configuration file" or "App.config" that I can't find and can't seem to add. I even tried adding a new text file and renaming it "App.config" but that only made VS 2008 spit out a red wavy line on a blank file. Any suggestions for finding the elusive app.config would be greatly appreciated. (and, if that makes the EntLib configuration tool show up, I'll be absolutely delighted) Edit: I've been tricked! The tree in VS 2008 isn't a true superset-subset relationship, which is why I got so frustrated. To wit, the top of the tree: And a 'sub-section' of the tree.
