  • AD - DirectoryServices: VBNET2.0 - Speaking architecture...

    I've been mandated to write an application to migrate the Active Directory access models to another environment. Here's the context: I'm stuck with VB.NET 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0; The application must use the Windows authenticated user to manage AD; The objects I have to handle are Groups, Users and OrganizationalUnits; I intend to use the Façade design pattern to provider ease of use and a fully reusable code; I plan to write a factory for each of the objects managed (group, ou, user); The use of Attributes should be useful here, I guess; As everything is about the DirectoryEntry class when accessing the AD, it seems a good candidate for generic types. Obligatory features: User creates new OUs manually; User creates new group manually; User creates new user (these users are services accounts) manually; Application reads an XML file which contains the OUs, groups and users to create; Application informs the user about the OUs, groups and users that shall be created; User specifies the domain environment where to migrate the XML input file designated objects; User makes changes if needed, and launches the task operations; Application performs required by the XML input file operations against the underlying AD as specified by the user; Application informs the user upon completion. Linear features: User fetches OUs, groups, users; User changes OUs, groups, users; User deletes OUs, groups, users; The application logs AD entries and operations performed, plus errors and exceptions; Nice-to-have features: Application rollbacks operations on error or exception. I've been working for weeks now to get acquainted with the AD and the System.DirectoryServices assembly. But I don't seem to find a way to be fully satisfied with what I'm doing and always looking for better. I have studied Bret de Smet's Linq to AD on CodePlex, but then again, I can't use it as I'm stuck with .NET 2.0, so no Linq! But I've learned about Attributes, and seen that he's working with generic types as he codes a DirectorySource class to perform the operations for OUs, groups and users. Any suggestions? So far I have everything connected and working, except for the view. How can I connect the text and the view so that every time I press the button, the text is drawn to the view?

  • ACE_Mutex::acquire problem

    Hi, I have a mutex in my class with the following definition: ACE_Mutex m_specsMutex; When i use the acquire() method that takes no parameters everything works just fine. But when i use it with a time value (as follows) it just immediately returns with -1 value. I'm sure that this mutex hasn't been acquired anywhere else so it shouldn't return -1. m_specsMutex.acquire(ACE_OS::gettimeofday() + ACE_Time_Value(30)) Am i doing anything wrong?

  • Heroku and i18n Problems

    i´m having trouble getting i18n to work on heroku. i set: I18n.default_locale = :de in my environment.rb and the translation is in config/locales/de.yml works perfect on my local machines but not so on heroku. on heroku everything is in english. i don´t think i need a special gem like i18n gem, cause i don´t have it on my local machine either. maybe anyone has a solution to this?

  • flex textarea text attribute but still renders as html

    actually i got to the cause of the issue. if you feed the textarea text attribute with an tag that has a valid src url, then for some reason flex will try to render everything as html. Eg, try this: <mx:TextArea id="textArea" width="100%" height="90%" text="<img src='http://url-to-a-valid-img"/> and instead of it rendering it as raw text it will render it as an html. any idea?

  • Rails - why would a model inside RAILS_ROOT/lib not be available in production mode?

    Hi - I have a class located inside RAILS_ROOT/lib folder, which I use in one of my helpers, and it works great in development. When I switch to production, the application throws a NameError (uninitialized constant SomeHelper::SomeClass), and I have to load it manually in the helper: load "#{Rails.root}/lib/some_class.rb" module SomeHelper def some_method sc = SomeClass.new # blah end end I was under the impression that everything inside RAILS_ROOT/lib/* should be available all to the app - is there anything I need to configure to make this happen in prod mode? thanks.

  • Which GUI toolkit would you use for a touchscreen interface?

    The only experience I have so far with a touchscreen interface was one where everything was custom drawn, and I get the feeling it's not the most efficient way of doing it (even the most basic layout change is hell to make). I know plenty of GUI toolkits intended at keyboard & mouse interfaces, but can you advise something suited for touchscreens? Target platform is Windows, but cross-platform would be nice.

    I have a Debian system currently running with python 2.5.4. I got virtualenv properly installed, everything is working fine. Is there a possibility that I can use a virtualenv with a different version of Python? I compiled Python 2.6.2 and would like to use it with some virtualenv. Is it enough to overwrite the binary file? Or do I have to change something in respect to the libraries?

  • aspx listbox control

    i tried to extend the listbox control and override its RenderEndTag method. everything works well if i used the control directly in a webapage. ie, the RenderEndTag is called. but when i try to put the control in a WebUserControl and use the webusercontorl in a webpage, the RenderEndTag of the extended control is not called. this is strange because the constructor is being called but the RenderEndTag method is not! any ideas about fixing the issue?
