  • simple app for salary calculation [on hold]

    I am very new to webdevelopment. I've been given this task to built an application to calculate final salary in the end of the month. The employees are callers and after every call they will get some form on which they will give their call summery like time duration. They are payed for each call depending on time duration. In the back end there will be sql database and some code to calculate the the final salary. Current they have to calculate the salary manually, they are just using google docs form.I have some idea that i need php in the front end sql in the back end but i am not clear about the whole picture please can someone give me a clear skeleton. My main question is what to use to calculate the salary from the database??And what should i use to create a front end form ??

  • Mac OS X Server DNS Questions

    Just for a new mac server in the office, initially it was for my personal use as a web development box but now the boss wants me to set it up with all the bells and whistles it comes with. I'm having some issues with the following... Lets just say my business is example.com I want the server's actual address to be labs.example.com and accessible to the world. What do I need to set up at my domain registrar to let the domain know where to go, and what do I need to set up with my hosting company to make this work, and finally what do I need to set up in the server admin panel to get it to work. It seems that DNS not working is first hurdle I need to jump but the documentation around the internet is pretty terrible. Thank you community.

  • How to prevent Gnome-shell's Alt+Tab from grouping windows from similar apps?

    I love pretty much everything about how Gnome Shell handles app-switching through Alt+Tab. My one gripe with it, though, is how it forces the user to use Alt+` to switch between windows of the same app. This is very annoying for me, because now I have to keep in mind if the last window I was using belonged to the same app as the current window or not. Definitely a nuisance for power users who thinks in terms of "windows I'm working with" instead of "applications I'm working on". I've tried the AlternateTab extension ( https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/15/alternatetab/ ), but it's looks way too ugly for me. Not to mention that in the end all I want is to remap Alt+(key above tab) to Alt+Tab on this application. I guess one option would be to just tweak Gnome-shell. My guess is that I should tinker with the altTab.js file at /usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/, but the file is too long and overwhelming for someone like me, who doesn't know JavaScript. Does anyone know how I can make Gnome Shell stop grouping windows by applications?

  • Root certificate authority works windows/linux but not mac osx - (malformed)

    I have created a self-signed root certificate authority which if I install onto windows, linux, or even using the certificate store in firefox (windows/linux/macosx) will work perfectly with my terminating proxy. I have installed it into the system keychain and I have set the certificate to always trust. Within the chrome browser details it says "The certificate that Chrome received during this connection attempt is not formatted correctly, so Chrome cannot use it to protect your information. Error type: Malformed certificate" I used this code to create the certificate: openssl genrsa -des3 -passout pass:***** -out private/server.key 4096 openssl req -batch -passin pass:***** -new -x509 -nodes -sha1 -days 3600 -key private/server.key -out server.crt -config ../openssl.cnf If the issue is NOT that it is malformed (because it works everywhere else) then what else could it be? Am I installing it incorrectly? To be clear: Within the windows/linux OS, all browsers work perfectly. Within mac only firefox works if it uses its internal certificate store and not the keychain. It's the keychain method of importing a certificate that causes the issue. Thus, all browsers using the keychain will not work.     Having trouble with Postgres since I upgraded to Mountain Lion (and now regretting it). Lost hours trying to fix it to no avail. When running rails server then visiting my app at 0.0.0.0:3000 I get this error. psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory. Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/pgsql_socket/.s.PGSQL.5432"? tried updating xcode.

There is no menu command to "unhide" it, only to hide it. Is there a way to unhide it? Is there is a way to unhide it by default when I switch to the app?

    I've got an app, written in Obj-C. The info.plist has a list of file types that the app can open. I'm pretty sure that this is working because when I try to drag a file of an unacceptable type, the app doesn't highlight, but when I drag a file of an acceptable type, it does highlight, and lets me drop. When I drop, the app starts up, correctly, however, then I get a dialog saying: The document "foo.tiff" could not be opened. DocView cannot open files in the "TIFF File" format.   • Kernel panic while loading Mac OS X on VMWare

    I have Mac OS X 10.6.3 and VMWare 7.1. Trying to run the OS X doesn't work - shortly after booting VMWare announces the machine's death with this pop-up message: The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point. The console has a more interesting announcement: The real-time clock was not properly initialized on your system! With a dump of the detected CPU speed (~2.9 GHz), FSB (~94 MHz) and bus ratio (31). Somehow, the code that panics is documented in an accidental .diff file here. Apparently, it commits seppuku if the bus ratio is greater than 30. I underclocked my E6500 to a slower speed, but this apparently didn't make any difference. I can think of two possibilities right now: The CPU info being read is constant, and defines the maximum ability of the CPU. In which case it appears I'm screwed. VMWare presents its own CPU info to the machine, which I can perhaps somehow change. If so, how? If these sound completely off, that's because I'm a real newbie in these matters. Here's hoping you guys can show me the light :-)

    I am on a MacBook Pro, running the latest version of Mountain Lion. I really need some help, I have managed some how to damage my .bash_profile (I think) so that every time I open up the terminal I get the error listed below. -bash: export: `/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/go/bin': not a valid identifier -bash: export: `/Users/rob/Applications/sbt/bin:': not a valid identifier env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory env: bash: No such file or directory -bash: tar: command not found -bash: grep: command not found -bash: cat: command not found -bash: find: command not found I am not sure what has happened, I have no sudo, cd or any normal commands. The only way I have been able to get to any of the main directories is through the go to folder command in finder and try to find the file to no avail. To top it all off I think I created a file that might be causing the issue, I wanted to edit the .bash_profile so I typed sudo nano ./bash_profile This open a new file in nano which I think was then saved. After this I opened the real .bash_profile to add in the path for node.js. If I can get to the .bash_profile I think I can get it back on track but I can't find it, should I reinstall bash? If so how would I do that on a mac, I tried using brew install bash to which I get -bash: brew: command not found I am really stuck if anyone can help I would be really appreciated. Many thanks

This was done a while ago, and at that time I successfully installed a data source (let's call it foo). Now I am trying to add another data source (DSN). I've done this through both ODBC Manager and the command-line tool myodbc-installer given with the tar bundle of the mysql-odbc connector from the mysql website.     I am working on a client's website and he has hosting through 1and1. They don't allow connecting directly to their mySQL server from anywhere. I can't for instance load up a mySQL GUI on windows and just connect and work on the databases, it says host not found. His hosting account on the other hand is given access to the mySQL server even though it is in a different location. Let's say these are the servers I'm working with: His main hosting: Address: thehost.com Username: joe His mySQL server: Address: mysqlserver.com Port: 3306 Database: thedata User: dbouser The main hosting account he has comes with SSH. So if I SSH into thehost.com on port 22 and then use the mysql command to connect to mysqlserver.com, it works. I have tried to set up SSH tunneling but the problem is that it's not the mySQL server that has SSH allowed, it's the main hosting. How do I set up SSH Tunneling on both a Mac and a Windows machine so that I can run any GUI I want and I will be able to connect to the mysqlserver.com server. All based on the information above that SSH access is to thehost.com only, and thehost.com itself can connect to mysqlserver.com.

  • External Hard Drive Won't Mount - MAC OSX

    I have a Western Digital hard drive that's about 4 or 5 years old. It's 500 GB, USB. I use it to backup my Mac every so often. I had it partitioned: 1 side for full backups, and the other side for general storage of music, installers, etc. I decided to get rid of the partition today and dump all the data. So I opened disk utility, and hit 'erase'. It started thinking and then disk utility crashed. After the crash, the hard drive won't mount, however disk utility still sees the drive, but not the individual volume within. I tried booting up Disk Warrior and no luck there either. It has the drive as an "unknown drive". When I hit rebuild, it goes through all it steps and then stops cause of this error: The drive "unknown" is severely damaged and DiskWarrior is unable to determine its case sensitivity What can I do at this point? There isn't any physical damage to the drive. Never been dropped or anything.

  • Keynote presentation in conjunction with other app?

    The short version: I'd like to tell Apple Keynote to switch to a specific app (never leaving full-screen mode) before a certain slide appears, then display that slide as soon as I switch back. Some more details: I'm going to show off five major improvements in an upcoming release of our app. I want one slide highlighting the feature, then one or two showing some details, perhaps with screenshots. After that, so people get a better impression of what I'm talking about, I'll show it off live — to do this, I have to switch to a VM or remote session (since this is a Windows app). Then, I'd like to switch back and go to the next feature. I.e., it would be similar to Apple's "Demo" slides in a cursive font, except not with a different screen, or different computer. It's this switching back and forth that I want to make smooth, just to wow the audience a little. Can I perhaps do a "special" slide in Keynote that tells it to run an AppleScript? Better yet, to switch to an app, and wait until I switch back, and then automatically advance to the next slide?

  • Need to link WP Blog with Rails App on Heroku

    I have a client who wants to migrate his Rails app to Heroku. However the client also has a blog associated with his domain that runs on WordPress. Currently, the WordPress blog is running happily alongside the Rails app, but once we migrate to Heroku, that clearly won't be possible. The url for the app is like http://mydomain.com, and the url for the blog is like http://mydomain/blog. I realize that the best long-term solution is to redo the blog in a Rails format like Toto or Jekyll. But in the short term, what is the best way to continue hosting the WP blog where it is (or somewhere) but use Heroku to run the app? The client doesn't want the blog to be on a subdomain, but to remain at mydomain/blog for SEO reasons and also since there is traffic to the blog. I have two ideas: Use rack_rewrite or refraction (or just a regular old 301 and Apache mod_rewrite) on the old (non-Heroku) server to redirect the main url from the old site to Heroku. In this case, I can just leave the Wordpress blog running happily where it is. I think?? Is there a reason to choose one of those options (rack_rewrite, refraction, or mod_rewrite) over the others if I do it this way? Switch the DNS info to point to the Heroku site, and then use a 301 redirect from the blog to the old site. But then I'll have to get the old (non-Heroku) site on a subdomain and use some kind of rewrite rules anyway so it looks like it isn't a subdomain. Are either of these approaches preferable, or is there another way to do it that's easier that I'm missing?

  • Kernel panic while loading Mac OS X on VMWare

    I'm trying to run Mac OS X 10.6.3 on VMWare 7.1 from within Windows 7 64 bit. Trying to run the OS X doesn't work - shortly after booting VMWare announces the machine's death with this pop-up message: The CPU has been disabled by the guest operating system. You will need to power off or reset the virtual machine at this point. The console has a more interesting announcement: The real-time clock was not properly initialized on your system! With a dump of the detected CPU speed (~2.9 GHz), FSB (~94 MHz) and bus ratio (31). Somehow, the code that panics is documented in an accidental .diff file here. Apparently, it commits seppuku if the bus ratio is greater than 30. I underclocked my E6500 to a slower speed, but this apparently didn't make any difference. I can think of two possibilities right now: The CPU info being read is constant, and defines the maximum ability of the CPU. In which case it appears I'm screwed. VMWare presents its own CPU info to the machine, which I can perhaps somehow change. If so, how? If these sound completely off, that's because I'm a real newbie in these matters. Here's hoping you guys can show me the light :-)

  • Window Management for Mac OS X

    Ok, I feel dumb. I've put many hours into this and found nothing, yet. When I was using Windows I had this little tool called WinSplit Revolution. What it did was letting you divide your screen into how many and of how much size you choose "virtual monitors". You set one time of you want to divide your monitor, then everytime WinSplit is opened the monitor is automatically divided into Virtual Monitors. Screenshots: http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&q=winsplit%20revolution&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1045&bih=499 I'm now using a 30' which i want almost always divided into 4 equal size "virtual monitors" (plus my mbp 13' those will be 5 1280x800 virtual monitors) Now I've switched to Mac OS X and can't find anything that does just this efficiently. I tried Divvy but I found no way to divide my screen into arbitrary "virtual monitors", I need a couple of clicks to select a 3x3 space on a 9x9 grid. Before starting coding something like this can you tell me if you already know of some software that does window management like this?
