• User given a login prompt when closing Word documents after viewing them in IE7

  When using IE7 to view Word documents on our CRM system (an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6 and using Windows authenticaton) I'm finding that a prompt appears when the user closes the document. The Word document is originally opened by clicking a link in the CRM system. Are there permissions that I can set on the folder containing the Word documents to prevent this prompt? I've already tried only allowing the Read permission for the Users group (I've left Administrators with Full Control.) If there's another solution to this without using permissions please let me know. UPDATE: I ran Fiddler as suggested by JD and here is the output from the two responses after the request for the document. The first seems to be a DAV response and the second is the authentication request. How do I prevent the DAV response and just return the .doc on the server? I moved all of the documents that are being requested into a folder outside of the web root, and created a virtual directory for it (also outside of the web root). When I followed a link to one of the documents in IE and then closed the document I wasn't presented with a login prompt. I should point out that I'm not using FPSE, unlike the person in the forum post. Ideally I don't want to have to put the documents in a separate virtual directory, but this is the simplest solution I've found so far.

• MPXJ - get ResourceAssignment baseline values

  I'm trying to display the Baseline Start, Finish, Cost, and Work values for a ResourceAssignment, but cannot seem to find any methods on the ResourceAssignment object that would provide this information. Anybody know if this is possible? I know the information is stored because I can see it in MS Project, and I can see it in the XML version of the project file. Just can't see in the API where to get access to it.

Few months back, I got a requirement to developed add-ins for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. The functionality for both the versions is same. A doubt stroked… when the functionality is same, why would I develop two add-ins separately? Why don’t I make a single build for both the versions of Office? Then I started searching for techniques to develop add-ins which works in both (2003 and 2007) and read many articles written by VSTO Experts in their blogs, Official VSTO Blog, MSDN, Forums and what not. Misha Says: Theoretically, you can develop an add-in for multiple versions of Microsoft Office by catering to the lowest common denominator. I also want to implement a system where I can save most of the projects online to increase collaboration and efficiency and reduce bandwidth especially on document editing. Imagine emailing a document back and forth 5-10 times a day.

• New virtualization project and old SAN

  Hi, We'll start shortly a partial virtualization of our infrastructure and consolidate a dozen servers into virtuals instances. We'll also add some client application virtualization into the mix for good measure. Two HP DL 380 with the new xeons 56xx and 96 GB of memory each running xenserver + xenapp will then take charge of most of our IT needs. So far, so good. One element that is missing from the picture is the storage part. We need some sort of shared storage to enable live motion and other HA features. We have an IBM DS 4300 SAN that we can use for that. But since it's in production since 2005, I'm not sure about such a critical role for a 5yr old part. So my question is: What is the reliability of this kind of equipment after 5 yr ? Can it last 10 yr with no or few problems ? Since our budjet is tight, not buying another SAN will be a big plus. This lead me to another question: FC disks cost an arm and a leg from IBM. When I type the replacement # in google (for example IBM 300GB 15K 4GBPS FC HDD 42D0410), I can find it at a fraction of the price at various sites. So am I stupid to buy from IBM or naive to trust 3rd party reseller ?? Thanks, Chris

  I've been assigned to research out and spec replacing our old and decrepit http content filtering system. There are several open source filtering packages available but I've not come across one that does SSL inspection. The new system will scale to many branches of different sizes, from say 10 users to a few hundred, so purchasing an appliance for each branch isn't desirable. When we're further along, we will do custom programming as we have a few unique needs in other aspects of filtering, so if the suggestion takes a bit of customization, it won't be a problem.

  I downloaded and installed XAMPP, and to keep my projects nicely separated I want to create a VirtualHost for each one based on its future domain name. But the problem here is that most of the commit contain errors and/or break the code in significant manner due to the lack of testing. Is there a way we can deploy the code on the remote server without using git commits, or some sort of temporary commits or patch or any other mechanism? And only commit, whenever it is important.

• MSBuild script fails but produces no errors

  I have a MSBuild script that I am executing through TeamCity. One of the tasks that is runs is from Xheo DeploxLX CodeVeil which obfuscates some DLLs. The task I am using is called VeilProject. I have run the CodeVeil Project through the interface manually and it works correctly, so I think I can safely assume that the actual obfuscate process is ok. This task used to take around 40 minutes and the rest of the MSBuild file executed perfectly and finished without errors. For some reason this task is now taking 1hr 20 minutes or so to execute. Once the VeilProject task is finished the output from the task says it completely successfully, however the MSBuild script fails at this point. I have a task directly after the VeilProject task and it does not get outputted. Using diagnostic output from MSBUild I can see the following: My questions are: Would it be possible that the MSBuild script has timed out?   I am trying to profile my .NET dll while running it from VS unit testing tools but I am having problems. I am using the standalone command-line profiler as VS2008 Professional does not come with an inbuilt profiler.   Does anyone know how to monitor cash drawer's open/close state using Advanced Printer Driver's Status API for Epson TM-88IV thermal printer. I wish i could use OPOS for ADK .Net, but haven't had luck setting it up on windows 7. Does anyone know how to be a part of epson developer network. I have gone through the information available at www.epson-pos.com but there is no information available on POS/ESC codes. Please help...........
