• Looking for MDI Manager with tab grouping that allows show and hide of groups?

  I am looking for a MDI manager solution that allows documents to be grouped and show/hidden programmaticly. Example, 3 document types, red, yellow and green. When you click a button the MDI manager shows only the red documents by hiding the other 2 types tabs. None of the MDI managers (Actipro, Infragistics, etx) I have looked at can do this. They require all documents to be visible... Anyone know of a good solution for this in C#? Thanks, Jeff

• jcarousel not getting drawn inside a hidden div

  I am struggling since hrs on this one now. I am using a div to populate a ul/li list and then draw a jcarousel out of it. So this works fine $('#mycarousel').jcarousel(); everything works fine as expected... but here is the scenario. the div inside which I have ul/li items could be hidden by the click of another button. When the div is hidden, and I resize the browser window...the jcaraousel also attempts to redraw itself... but since it is hidden, it is not able to draw it properly. and everyting is jumbled up in the list (if I click the button again to make it visible)... but again if I resize the window now (the jumbled up jcarousel is NOT hidden now)... it redraws itself correctly... I was wondering to get hold of the jcarousel instance and reload itself as soon as the button is clicked to make the div visible (the way it resizes itself when it is visible and window is resized) to get hold of the jcarousel.. I am using JQuery('#mycarousel').data('jcarousel') and it is returned as null. Anybody has any idea on this one?

• How do I change the color settings in emacs23 running in a terminal console?

  I use xterm and set its appearance in ~/.Xdefaults: XTerm*background: paleTurquoise XTerm*foreground: black I also use emacs, but set its appearance differently in ~/.emacs: (set-background-color "black") (set-foreground-color "yellow") I usually run emacs within the terminal console with emacs -nw, rather than creating a separate X window. For some reason, this doesn't work properly for emacs23; instead, emacs retains the pale turquoise background of my xterm window. Looking at what's new in emacs23, I noted that: ** When running in a new enough xterm (newer than version 242), Emacs asks xterm what the background color is and it sets up faces accordingly for a dark background if needed (the current default is to consider the background light). So it's a feature, not a bug? Anyway, is there some way that I can I tell emacs23 to ignore the xterm background settings when running in console mode, and use the settings in ~/.emacs instead? I'll also note that: Running M-x set-background-color within emacs23 -nw has no effect. It works fine in emacs23 running in a separate X window (without the -nw option). It worked fine in emacs22; and I'm not really sure whether I need to use emacs23... It's not just xterm: the same problem exists with $TERM=cygwin, for example.

  I'm writing a Firefox extension that creates a socket server which will output the active tab's URL when a client makes a connection to it. If I open multiple windows, it ignores the additional windows. I think it is creating a server socket for each window, but since they are using the same port, the additional sockets fail to initialize. I need it to create a server socket when the browser launches and continue running when I close the windows (Mac OS X). As it is, when I close a window but Firefox remains running, the socket closes and I have to restart firefox to get it up an running. How do I go about that?

But, when I create a new Windows Forms application using my sample compiler, the MSDOS window also appears, and if I close the DOS window, my WinForms app closes too. • multiple redirect??

  Ok, i won't go into the full details (too much to explain) but here is what i am trying to do. I have a button on a webpage (we'll call page-1) that links to a page (we'll call it page-2). This page opens in the same window. However, i need the page (page-2) that opens to open up a new window with another page (we'll call this one page-3) when it loads. So virtually when you click the initial button (on page-1) it will go to a new page (page-2) AND a window will open as well with a different page (page-3). This is where it gets tricky. I need page-2 to automatically redirect back to page-1 after it launches page-3. Is this possible and if so, how?? Could it be a JQuery thing? Please just give some answers...i know this is way crazy and a huge workaround - but this is my last resort for this particular website. I have to do it this way because of the lack of control over some of the code.

• Java process is not terminating after starting an external process

Then I sent an readerThread.interrupt() to the reader thread and the thread terminated, too. But there was still a thread running that wasn't terminating. This thread kept my java application running even if it exited its main method. With the debugger (eclipse) I wasn't able to suspend this thread. After I quit the opened command window, my java program exited, too. Question How can I quit my java program while the command window stays open?

• Java and .net interoperability

  I have a c# program through which i am opening cmd window as a a process. in this command window i am running a batch file. i am redirecting the output of that batch file commands to a Text File. When i run my application everything seems to be ok. But few times, Application is giving some error like "Can't access the file. it's being used by another application" at the same time cmd window is not getting closed. If we close the cmd process through the Task Manager, then it's writing the content to the file and getting closed. Even though i closed the cmd process, still file handle is not getting released. so that i am not able to run the application next time onwards.Always it's saying Can't access the file. Only after restarting the system, it's working.   I'm attempting to implement a GTK+ inspired widget toolkit for the web in JavaScript. One of the constructor chains goes gtk.widget => gtk.container => gtk.bin => gtk.window Every gtk.widget has a showAll method, which, if and only if the widget is a gtk.container or derivative (such as gtk.bin or gtk.window), will recursively show the children of that widget. Obviously, if it isn't a gtk.container or derivative, we shouldn't do anything because the widget in question can't contain anything. For reference, here is my inheritance function; it's probably not the best, but it's a start: function inherit(target, parent) { target.prototype = new parent; target.prototype.constructor = target; } I know that I can check for the direct constructor like this: if (this.constructor === gtk.container) ... However, this only tests for direct construction and not, say, if the object is a gtk.bin or gtk.window. How can I test whether gtk.container is somewhere up in the constructor chain?

My guess is that, it is because the constructor would have create the profile object and so even though the object is empty it shows me edit button instead of create. Is there any other way I could display button visibility??

• Best terminal environment for Cygwin/Windows?

  Today I run Cygwin with rxvt using the following startup line: rxvt -bg black -sl 8192 -fg white -sr -g 150x56 -fn "Fixedsys" -e /usr/bin/bash --login -i This gives me a resizeable native Windows window which is much better than the standard "DOS box" the default cygwin.bat provides. However, the current configuration does have a couple of issues: I am not able to enter non-ASCII characters into the terminal window (i.e. æ, ø, å and Æ, Ø, Å, which I use semi-frequently. In fact, the terminal will not even accept them when I paste them into the window. If I paste a string like "bølle" (Norwegian for "bulley"), all I get is "blle". I am not able to render UTF-8 character, they only show as ?, even if they are supported by the font (i.e. when rendering the same characters in ISO-8859-1 they show just fine.). I am running English Windows Vista with locale and keyboard layout set to Norwegian (ISO-8859-1 character set?), but I've had the exact same issue on Windows 2000 and XP. Anyone knows how to fix this (i.e. a better way to configure rxvt)? Apart from the issues mentioned above, I'm very happy with rxvt, so if I find a way to resolve them I'd like to continue using it. However, if the issues are not (easily) solvable, are the any other good terminal solutions for Cygwin? Update The solution provided by Andy and Mattias (editing the .inputrc file) did solve the input problem, but output rendering is still an issue. Output is fine when I render in ISO-8859-1, but when using UTF-8 I only get ? for non-ASCII characters. This behavior is consistent between rxvt, urxvt (under Cygwin XFree X Server), mintty and PuttyCyg. Is there a similar configuration file where output encoding can be set (i.e. the equivalent of setting output locale on a Linux system)?

• WPF DataBinding to standard CLR properties in code-behind

  Hi everyone, Just learning WPF databinding and have a gap in my understanding. I've seen a few similar questions on StackOverflow, but I'm still struggling in determining what I have done wrong. I have a simple Person class with a Firstname and Surname property (standard CLR properties). I also have a standard CLR property on my Window class that exposes an instance of Person. I've then got some XAML, with two methods of binding. The first works, the second doesn't. Can anybody help me to understand why the second method fails? • Is there an MVVM-friendly way to swap views without value converters firing unnecessarily?

  I thought what I was doing was right out of the Josh Smith MVVM handbook, but I seem to be having a lot of problems with value converters firing when no data in the view-model has changed. So, I have a ContentControl defined in XAML like this: <ContentControl Grid.Row="0" Content="{Binding CurrentViewModel}" /> The Window containing this ContentControl references a resource dictionary that looks something like this: <ResourceDictionary ...> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type lib_vm:SetupPanelViewModel}"> <lib_v:SetupPanel /> </DataTemplate> <DataTemplate DataType="{x:Type lib_vm:InstructionsPanelViewModel}"> <lib_v:InstructionsPanel /> </DataTemplate> </ResourceDictionary> So, basically, the two data templates specify which view to show with which view-model. This switches the views as expected whenever the CurrentViewModel property on my window's view-model changes, but it also seems to cause value converters on the views to fire even when no data has changed. It's a particular problem with IMultiValueConverter classes, because the values in the value array get set to DependencyProperty.UnsetValue, which causes exceptions unless I specifically check for that. But I'm getting other weird side effects too. This has me wondering if I shouldn't just do everything manually, like this: Instantiate each view. Set the DataContext of each view to the appropriate view-model. Give the ContentControl a name and make it public. Handle the PropertyChanged event for the window. In the event handler, manually set the Content property of the ContentControl to the appropriate view, based the CurrentViewModel (using if statements). This seems to work, but it also seems very inelegant. I'm hoping there's a better way. Could you please advise me the best way to handle view switching so that value converters don't fire unnecessarily?

As soon as the page is resized it jumps into the correct position. Haven't got it live anywhere at the moment but does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

  Our company is making a mobile version of our website. We have several product videos we want to show on the mobile version. When I try to use <a href="video.wmv">video</a> I get sound playing but a black screen on my htc incredible android os phone. I'm thinking that the video is playing but in a different browser window. I need it to display all in one window without having to switch to a different window. I tried the html embed tags and get no video or sound at all, from what I've read these tags are not very realiable cross browser. I also just tried the html5 video tags below. I get an icon identifying that it's a video file but it doesn't play. <video src="video.wmv" controls="controls"> your browser does not support the video tag </video> Is there a special format the video file needs to be in? Should I be using the href or embed tags, what other options do I have? If it helps to know, I'm using the mobile doctype on my webpages. Thanks

• Xcode 5 - remove storyboard and start app with a .xib

  I've tried to follow the instructions on this Question. But I must not be doing something correctly because I am still getting a SIGABRT before I even get into the ViewController methods. Here are the steps: Copied all items on the view in the story board and pasted into the new xib view. Copied all contents of .h and .m view controller files into the new ones for the xib. Changed the Main nib file base name to the new xib name in the info.plist file. Tried to change the owner but I don't know if I'm doing that correctly. Edited the appdelegate didFinishLaunchingWithOptions file as follows: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] ; // Override point for customization after application launch. TestViewController *test = [[TestViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TestViewController" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:test]; self.window.rootViewController = nav; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } I even tried to start with an empty project like one of the last posts suggested and still get a SIGABRT when I try to run. Has Apple made it impossible to remove the storyboard? I'm creating an SDK. I don't want a storyboard. But I do need one xib that is rotatable. Help?

• iPhone UIScrollView embedded UIView is clipped

  Hello. I have an iPad UIView subclass (we'll call LargerUIView) with which I do a bunch of drawing via drawRect: once asked. That all appears to be working, and looks the way I like. I'm at the point now of trying to get scrolling working (just in the horizontal to begin), yet when I try to scroll, what shows below is black (ie, appears to have never been drawn). That doesn't surprise me as it's likely been clipped. Looking for suggestions. • firefox and javascript redirection

  Hello there, I currently have a issue with firefox, where all other browser behave in the right way - even IE6! What I want to do is redirection to a subpage but leaving a history entry. There are 2 methods of rewriting the url as far as I know: window.location = "some.url"; - redirect to some.url with history entry window.location.replace("some.url"); - redirect without history entry So I have to use the first one and tested in the firebug console everthing works fine. Now there is the kind of strange part of this question: the same statement, that worked fine in the console doesn't in some jQuery callback handler: jQuery("#selector").bind("submit", function() { $.getJSON("some_cool_json", function(response) { var redirect_path = response.path; window.location = redirect_path; }); return false; }); where response_path is set correctly, I checked it! Even the redirection is working correctly, but there is no history entry created. Any ideas on that one? Would be great! ;) Cheers Joe
