  • Silverlight/Moonlight on Android devices

    Hi! I just got my first Android device, I love it... I also love the fact that you can create your own applications and distribute them as you please. I've read a little bit about Monodroid, and also that apparently Microsoft wants to put Silverlight on these devices, although there is not too much information about either of them... but what about Moonlight? If Monodroid is like Mono... why do we need it? wouldn't be better having Moonlight instead? Therefore we could create rich applications for Android devices. In Silverlight 4, if you install the app locally as full trust, it won't depend on the cross domain policies and you can connect wherever you want... What do you think?

  • Android: Haptic feedback: onClick() event vs hapticFeedbackEnabled in the view

    If you want a button to provide haptic feedback (ie, the phone vibrates very briefly so you can feel that you really pushed the button), what's the standard way to do that? It seems you can either explicitly set an onClick() event and call the vibrate() function, giving a number of milliseconds to vibrate, or you can set hapticFeedbackEnabled in the view. The documentation seems to indicate that the latter only works for long-presses or virtual on-screen keys: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/View.html#performHapticFeedback(int) If that's right, then I need to either make my button a virtual on-screen key or manually set the onClick() event. What do you recommend? Also, if I want the vibrating to happen immediately when the user's finger touches the button, as opposed to when their finger "releases" the button, what's the best way to accomplish that?     Hello everyone, I'm parsing a (not well formed) Apple Plist File with java. My Code looks like this: InputStream in = new FileInputStream( "foo" ); XMLInputFactory factory = XMLInputFactory.newInstance(); XMLEventReader parser = factory.createXMLEventReader( in ); while (parser.hasNext()){ XMLEvent event = parser.nextEvent(); //code to navigate the nodes } The parts I"m parsing are looking like this: <dict> <key>foo</key><integer>123</integer> <key>bar</key><string>Boom &amp; Shroom</string> </dict> My problem is now, that nodes containing a ampersand are not parsed like they should because the ampersand is representing a entity. What can i do to get the value of the node as a complete String, instead of broken parts? Thank you in advance.

But i need some encrypted value which looks like my previous value. i have 3 kinds of variables to encrypt. those are String,numeric and Date type variables. My requirement is if i encrypt a date type, i need to get the cipher text looks like date. So can any one suggest with an example to impliment and encryption technique.

    Hello, I have a camera by Cisco and like to stream it's video stream to my android phone. It's coded in MPEG4 so there should be no problem, but it's not working anymore (it worked with another camera a few weeks ago). Any idea what I might try ? I don't know what's wrong here.   • Android ListView - Slide Subview in from Right?

    I have a ListView. When I select an item in the ListView, I would like to have a Subview slide in from the right, the way that it does in many Apps. I have been searching for tutorials on this topic but am spinning my wheels. Maybe Android uses a term different than "Subview" ?   • Android - getTabHost() is undefined

    I started learning Java and how to program for Android last night :) So far I'm on this tutorial: developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-tabwidget.html Clearly these tutorials have been designed for people that already have experience with Java. Despite the tutorial lacking all the required steps (for an absolute beginner with Java) and even having a typo, it seems I've figured everything out (which I'm really proud of :p). Except I cannot figure out how to fix TabHost tabHost = getTabHost(); which apparently is undefined. I have one other error shown in the linked image below, but I don't see why.   • Manually iterating over a selection of XML elements (C#, XDocument)

    What is the “best practice” way of manually iterating (i.e., one at a time with a “next” button) over a set of XElements in my XDocument? Say I select the set of elements I want thusly: var elems = from XElement el in m_xDoc.Descendants() where (el.Name.LocalName.ToString() == "q_a") select el; I can use an IEnumerator to iterate over them, i.e., IEnumerator m_iter; But when I get to the end and I want to wrap around to the beginning if I call Reset() on it, it throws a NotSupportedException. That’s because, as the Microsoft C# 2.0 Specification under chapter 22 "Iterators" says "Note that enumerator objects do not support the IEnumerator.Reset method. Invoking this method causes a System.NotSupportedException to be thrown ." So what IS the right way of doing this? And what if I also want to have bidirectional iteration, i.e., a “back” button, too? Someone on a Microsoft discussion forum said I shouldn’t be using IEnumerable directly anyway. He said there was a way to do what I want with LINQ but I didn’t understand what. Someone else suggested dumping the XElements into a List with ToList(), which I think would work, but I wasn’t sure it was “best practice”. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    Hi friends, I am trying to write a small application using bouncycastle algorithm, from the http://tinyurl.com/ylclavn (BouncyCastleProvider.java) it says we have to import and add the provider during runtime by the following code import org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider; Security.addProvider(new BouncyCastleProvider()); error - The import org.bouncycastle cannot be resolved; during import error - BouncyCastleProvider cannot be resolved to a type; when calling addProvider I though bouncycastle is not provided with the Android 1.6 SDK, so thought of installing separately. how should i do this? If Bouncycastle is shipped along with SDK, what should i do to avoid these errors? I am using Android 1.6, eclipse-V3.4.0 on winXP . Thanks in advance

    By default, the datetime field from the database is being converted and stripping off the milliseconds: some_datetime = "2009-11-11T02:19:36Z" attribute_before_type_cast('some_datetime') = "2009-11-11 02:19:36.145" If I try to overrride the accessor for this attribute like; def some_datetime attribute_before_type_cast('some_datetime') end when I try "to_xml" for that model, I get the following error: NoMethodError (undefined method `xmlschema' for "2009-11-11 02:19:36.145":String): I have tried to parse the String to a Time object but can't get one to include the milliseconds; def some_datetime Time.parse(attribute_before_type_cast('some_datetime').sub(/\s/,"T").sub(/$/,"Z")) end Can anyone help get get a datetime with milliseconds rendered by to_xml?

  • Interfacing Android Nexus One with Arduino + BlueSmirf

    I'm a bit new to all of this, so bear with me - I'd really appreciate your help. I am trying to link the Android Nexus One with an arduino (Duemilanove) that is connected to a BlueSmirf. I have a program that is simply outputting the string "Hello Bluetooth" to whatever device the BlueSmirf is connected to. Here is the Arduino program: void setup(){ Serial.begin(115200); int i; } void loop(){Serial.print("Hello Bluetooth!"); delay(1000); } One my computer BT terminal I can see the message and connect no problem. The trouble is with my android code. I can connect to the device with android, but when I look at the log it is not displaying "Hello Bluetooth". Let's say a relativelayout with some buttons in it. How should I proceed. Should I create a custom view class that extends RelativeLayout and programmaticly add those buttons? I would think that's a bit overkill? What's the way to do it properly in Android?

  • Not getting a response when using Android Async HTTP (from loopj)

    I am using the Async Http library from loopj.com and also the sample code from the site. The problem is that when the request is made I don't get a response. I have even overridden the onFinish() function which isn't getting fire either.     I am using a PreferenceActivity to let the user set some values. I am feeding it the xml file with the defined preferences. I have set all the android:defaultValue="" for them. When I start my application, I need the preferences, or if they are not set yet manually, I want the default values: SharedPreferences prefs = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); boolean value = prefs.getBoolean("key"), false); However, when android:defaultValue="true" I still get false. So, it looks like the defaultValues set in the XML are not used anywhere but when initializing the preferences-screen. I don't want to hardcode the default values in the getBoolean() method. So, is there a way get the default-values with only defining these in 1 place?

    Hello, I have created an application that records a series of longitude and latitude values in a SQLite database and display them as a coloured track on a MapActivity. I now want to be able to export this data somehow (preferably to a file) so a user can upload the values to a website showing a Google Map API. My question is: what would be the quickest way to export the data (and in what file format: GPX, XML, CSV) to the SD card located on the Android device. Many thanks.

    Hi, I am trying to open a dialog on widget click. I have solved the problem skinning the activity started on click with android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Dialog". Unfortunately I cannot reach the same look of a dialog. This is the outcome: http://i50.tinypic.com/n15lcy.png while I would like to reach this result (except for the button, of course): h ttp://i48.tinypic.com/2ithqpc.png (the widget dialog you can see keeping the screen pushed) As you can see there are some differences: the color of the list items, the color of the text and the list item separator. Is there a predefined theme/style to obtain the same look of a standard dialog? If not, what are the steps to follow to reach that result? I have seen that the widget provided by FoxyRing has the behaviour I would like to have. Thanks
