  • Advantages/disadvantages of Glassfish v3 Prelude vs Springsource dm server for Web applications?

    - by cletus
Both of these appservers are at least in part OSGI based. One (Glassfish) is obviously J2EE while the other isn't. Now I'm at the stage of choosing a platform for a new project and the natural choice is Glassfish v3 Prelude. This does raise the issue of perhaps we should be using S2AP instead. The question then is this: does the springsource dm server offer any compelling reason to use it over Glassfish? And vice versa.

  • Centralized Credentials Service For Various Apps

    - by Vlad
We are researching the possibility to build a centralized credentials storage for internal applications. These apps (vb6, vb.net, web apps in asp.net, etc) are using various instances of SQL servers and iSeries. We want to implement a central credentials facility that would act as a security broker. Basically it should work like this: Client app supplies AppID (I am Sales Application) and EnvironmentID (I am running in QA environment) and in return will get either a connection object (preferred) or encrypted connection string that will allow said application to connect to resources it needs. There will be cases when application needs to connect to two (or more) database resources (i.e. to SQL and iSeries). What are looking at DP API at the moment, but I am not convinced that DP API is the solution as it tied in with machine key. In our case using machine key isn't feasible, so I want to know if there are other approaches available.

  • Verify my form workflow

    - by Shackrock
I have a form, with some sensitive info (CC numbers). My work flow is: One page to take all form items Upon submission, values are validated. If all is well, all data is stored in a session variable, and the page reloads and displays this info from the session variable. If everything is ok on the review page, the user clicks submit and the session variable is sent to another form for processing (sending payment). Upon success, the session is destroyed. Upon failure (bad CC number, for example) - the user is sent back to the form, with all of the fields filled in just like before, so that they can check for errors and try again (session is NOT destroyed). Does anyone see anything wrong with this, from a security or best practices stand point? UPDATE I'm thinking I can get rid of a step - storing the info in a session EVER. Just have a one page checkout, no review page... makes sense.

  • UnsupportedEncodingException thrown when using Resin and Grails

    - by knorv
I've encountered a strange problem in a Grails webapp running under Grails: java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException is thrown quite frequently due to various unknown encoding strings (such as "ISO8859_10", "ISO-8859-10"), and the strange thing is that this is done entirely within the Resin and Grails code. That is - no custom code is involved when the exception is thrown. I'm not sure if it is Grails or the servlet container's code that should handle the exception. But I'd assume that the exception should be handled somewhere and not bubble up all the way to stderr. This is the exception in full: java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException: ISO-8859-10 at com.caucho.vfs.i18n.JDKWriter$OutputStreamEncodingWriter.<init>(JDKWriter.java:112) at com.caucho.vfs.i18n.JDKWriter.create(JDKWriter.java:79) at com.caucho.vfs.Encoding.getWriteEncoding(Encoding.java:231) at com.caucho.server.connection.ToByteResponseStream.setEncoding(ToByteResponseStream.java:137) at com.caucho.server.connection.AbstractHttpResponse.setLocale(AbstractHttpResponse.java:1683) at com.caucho.server.connection.HttpServletResponseImpl.setLocale(HttpServletResponseImpl.java: 115) at javax.servlet.ServletResponseWrapper.setLocale(ServletResponseWrapper.java:139) at javax.servlet.ServletResponseWrapper.setLocale(ServletResponseWrapper.java:139) at org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.render(DispatcherServlet.java:1035) at org.codehaus.groovy.grails.web.servlet.GrailsDispatcherServlet.doDispatch(GrailsDispatcherServlet.java:290) at org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet.doService(DispatcherServlet.java:716) at org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.processRequest(FrameworkServlet.java:647) at org.springframework.web.servlet.FrameworkServlet.doGet(FrameworkServlet.java:552) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:114) My questions: Should the exception be handled? If so, is it the responsibility of the servlet container (Resin) or the web framework (Grails)? How would you go about solving this? (I'd rather not having the exception log cluttered with exceptions that I can do nothing about.)

  • Ipad, closed environment and threat to privacy

    - by Akshay Bhat
I had an unusual question about ipad, Since ipad environment is closed and does not allows installation of diagnostic and security related programs. How can then we be sure that any of the software installed on ipad is not infringing upon our privacy by doing stuff such as homing back information, etc. We cant install a packet tracer or any other software to check for attacks on privacy. Also given Apples poor track record (the safari browser was broken in one day), I don't think trusting apple solely would be a good idea. This might not seem to be a big issue but for business users it would be a significant concern.

  • Saving data to server with user accounts.

    - by AKRamkumar
Ok, so for an app I am making, I want the user to be able to save data online. On my website, I will provide a web server with tables of UserName/Password/SaveData. How can I do this without crashing the server load? How can I guarantee security ? Is there a Design Pattern for this?Is there a better way of doing this? This is going to be a free application, available to the public and I would like for their settings to be available, no matter the computer they are using. Is there a better way of doing this? I am using MEF for plugins so is there a way I can save plugin data as well?

  • Roles / Permissions framework for c#?

    - by mark smith
Hi there, Does anyone know of a good framework to allow me design permission and roles against users. Basically allowing me to automatically check a user can do a certain thing, and then disabling or enabling menu items etc I am not really looking for asp.net security ... as i need to use it in my own service layer and clients both WEB and WPF will use it. I was hoping for something that allows me to create new roles and groups against users and then check what type of permissions a user has or a group has Any help really appreciated.. I am sure some kind of open source framework is available, well i was hoping not having to create my own Thanks

  • JMS have javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException when client stop working

    - by Tran
I use JMS for sending requests from a client to a server. My client sends a request to the server. While the server is working with my request, my client stops (network problem) before the server finishes. When the server is finished, it'll return to the client, but the server can't see the client which sent the request to server, at which point, the server will return an exception in log file. The exception is : javax.jms.InvalidDestinationException: Cannot publish to a deleted Destination: temp-queue://ID:PC0092-49463-1344231871819-0:0:9 [^] My question is: what do I need to do in this case? Can I catch or disable this exception? And how can I do it? (Sorry, If my english is not good.)

  • Potential for SQL injection here?

    - by Matt Greer
This may be a really dumb question but I figure why not... I am using RIA Services with Entity Framework as the back end. I have some places in my app where I accept user input and directly ask RIA Services (and in turn EF and in turn my database) questions using their data. Do any of these layers help prevent security issues or should I scrub my data myself? For example, whenever a new user registers with the app, I call this method: [Query] public IEnumerable<EmailVerificationResult> VerifyUserWithEmailToken(string token) { using (UserService userService = new UserService()) { // token came straight from the user, am I in trouble here passing it directly into // my DomainService, should I verify the data here (or in UserService)? User user = userService.GetUserByEmailVerificationToken(token); ... } } (and whether I should be rolling my own user verification system is another issue altogether, we are in the process of adopting MS's membership framework. I'm more interested in sql injection and RIA services in general)

  • Hibernate orm for a view

    - by EugeneP
How do you ORM a view? Is there any difference with a table in terms of reverse engineering? In my case, I have a whole pile of joined tables that will be read-only in an application. So, if I need sort of a 1 Object with all collections in proper order, instead of long chains of relationships - collection with another etc, it'll be simpler. What do you think and how do you accomplish this?

  • Windows secure pinned website tile

    - by Stijn de Voogd
I'm currently working on a pinned website tile for my website and instead of using a static XML file i'm linking the tile to a web api that returns user specific XML. My question is: Is it possible to secure this tile so that a user needs to be logged in before the data loads? The pinned website livetile doesn't send any security request headers/ cookies: - Http: Request, GET /v1/livetile/firsttile Command: GET + URI: /v1/livetile/firsttile ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1 UserAgent: Microsoft-WNS/6.3 Host: 192.168.14.109:2089 Cache-Control: no-cache HeaderEnd: CRLF Sidenote: Notice how it's not even sending an accept header even though it only wants xml. Info: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ie/dn455106 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ie/hh761491.aspx# Thanks in advance!

  • What's the difference between the 'DES' class and The 'DESCryptoServiceProvider' class?

    - by IbrarMumtaz
All I can make out is that one of them is the BC for all 'DES' algorithms to be derived from and the later is a wrapper for the Cryptographic service provider implementation of the DES algorithm. The reason why I ask is that I am going over .Net Security and the MS official training book simply refers to the DES class but the another official MS book refers to the DESCrypto' class. What's the difference between these two? When would you use either of them? What do I need to know as far as the 70-536 exam is concerned. I am asking my question from an educational P.O.V as far as the 70-536 exam is concerned. Thanks In Advance. Ibrar

  • Hibernate overriding database modifications with detached object state

    - by EugeneP
I'm gonna go with this design: create an object and keep it alive during all web-app session. And I need to synchronize its state with database state. What I want to achieve is that : IF between my db operations, that is, modifications that I persist to a db someone intentionally spoils table rows, then on next saving to a database all those changes WOULD BE OVERWRITTEN with the object state, that always contains valid data. What Hibernate methods do you recommend me to use to persist the modifications in a database? saveOrUpdate() is a possible solution, but maybe there's anything better? Again, I repeat how it looks. First I create an object without collections. Persist it (save()). Then user provides us with additional data. In a serviceLayer, again, we modify our object in memory (say, populate it with collections) and then, persist it again. So every serviceLayer operation of the next step must simply guarantee that database contains the exact persistent copy of this object that we have in memory. If data in a database differ, it MUST BE OVERRIDDEN with the object (kept in memory) state. What Session operations do you recommend?

  • Django with custom authentication backends, is Csrf middleware really required ?

    - by Hellnar
Hello, Under Django 1.1.1, I am using several authentication backends such as social-registration for facebook connect and django-emailauth for email based authentication instead of user names. I am curious if the Csrf middleware is an essential security measure as it seems like it sometimes generates problems, especially with facebook connect. My project is rather simple. Each user have a profile which they can fill and a purchase page where they fill the payment for to do purchases. Either of these pages are protected via @login_required.

    - by artmania
Hi friends, I have a php file at my site, and I connect to db, get some records and list them in same file. mysql_connect("localhost", "blabla", "blabla") or die(mysql_error()); mysql_select_db("blabla") or die(mysql_error()); $blabla1 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM gallery WHERE id_cat=1"); $blabla2 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM gallery WHERE id_cat=2"); $blabla3 = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM gallery WHERE id_cat=3"); So, is there anything I need to do for security? :/ like sql-injection or anything else. there is nothing going to url. it is just www.blabla.com/gallery.php appreciate advises!!! thanks a lot!
