    i've got vsftpd install on an ubuntu server 9.10 i can use chroot to restrict users to their own home directories but i also want to give them access to a group shared folder for example, users foo1 and foo2 are local users in the group foos i want foo1 to have access to /home/foo1 and /svr/foos and foo2 to have access to /home/foo2 and /svr/foos other notes: using pam and enforce local user ssl already tried mount --bind but it does weird permissions when you try to mount bind multiple users to the same

  • Group Policy: Block access to \\localhost\C$

    We have a restricted Windows 7 computer that hides and prevents non-admin users from accessing the C Drive. However, they are able to circumvent this by typing the following into Explorer: \\localhost\C$ How can I disable this path but allow other UNC paths. For example they are allowed to access a shared folder on a different computer. eg. \\192.168.2.1\SharedTransfer Note: Simply Enabling the Group Policy: Remove Run menu from Start Menu will not work as this blocks all UNC paths.

    I am using SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 and have set up a linked server to point at an Access 97 database using the OLE DB Provider 4.0 for Microsoft Jet. The problem I am having sounds almost exactly like the one described in this Microsoft KB article, except that the error I am getting is intermittent: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814398 The SQL Server is running under the Local System account (which I don't have authority to change), and the Access 97 .mdb file that the linked server points to is on a Win XP Pro machine on the same LAN as the SQL Server machine, inside of a shared folder with permissions set to "Everyone" and "Full Control". Now, if the linked server connection never worked, it would make more sense that the problem is merely a permissions issue with the Local System account as the KB article above suggests, but the maddening thing is that sometimes the connection works just fine. When it fails, the error message is always the same: Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error. [OLE/DB provider returned message: Unspecified error] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ]. Also, not only does the linked server setup occasionally work just fine on this one particular SQL Server, what is supposed to be exactly the same setup on 25 other servers works just fine EVERY TIME! Obviously, something in the non-working setup must not be exactly the same, but I'm having trouble figuring out where to look for the differences since the error message SQL Server returns is so vague. I know our sysadmins have had numerous issues with Active Directory replication across our domain, so my best guess is that there is some sort of odd group policy corruption going on, but I thought I'd ask here to see if I might be overlooking something more straightforward. Any ideas on how to further isolate the error would be greatly appreciated! For the record, here is a list of things I've already tried: Rebooting the SQL Server machine. Fixes the issue temporarily, then the error returns within a minute or two of startup. (This is why I suspect a rogue group policy that is slow to apply fouling things up.) Importing all database objects from the Access 97 mdb into a new, clean mdb file. Makes no difference. Moving the Access 97 mdb file to a local directory on the SQL Server machine instead of accessing it via a share on the Win XP Pro LAN machine. I've 4Gb of RAM, of which only 3317Mb are seen by the system (I guess because of the 32bit system). I'm seeing that the pagecache utilization is continually growing, up to the point that the system is unusable (after a few days). This happens also when I don't do anything (all user applications closed and the bare minimum of services enabled). If enabled, the system starts to use swap space (using it all in the end). Even if swap is disabled, disk activity becomes continuous, with the system unresponsive. Everything works great, but I'm having trouble finding out how to only allow one VPN connection per user listed in the /etc/ppp/chap-secrets file? Right now a user can have unlimited connections which is worrisome to me as I've shared access to the VPN with some friends but am worried they might keep spreading the username/password.

  • New Computer Build Questions

    I'm in the process of gathering parts and specs for a new machine. I wear many hats, so the machine needs to do a lot. I need at least 2 monitor support, if not three. I also play many online MMOs (wow, aion, war hammer, etc), along with some freelance programming projects. I already have a case which is very large, so it will fit anything. I have 2 other SATA HDs. They are more for storage and basic programs. I feel that the best improvement could be done with a solid state HD, true or not? I'm more of a software/programming guy, so ANY input at all on improving this system build would be appreciated. I have a few questions with this list. AMD or Intel? I don't know enough about either to choose what would best fit me. Thanks! **EDIT: Thanks for the input everyone!   • Will this RAID5 setup work (3TB Seagate Barracudas + Adaptec RAID 6405)?

    As the title states, will this RAID combo work, and if not what needs to be changed? Overall opinions would be most helpful. I currently run a small file server of about 5TB or so. I keep outgrowing my needs and need to build a RAID setup that will allow me to expand as needed. I am new to RAID setups, especially one of the scale I have currently planned out, but I have being doing some research for the past couple of weeks and have come up with a build. Ideally, I'd have the setup completely built, but I'd like to keep the total cost around $1k and can't afford to go above $1.5k, so unfortunately that's not an option. 2 of my current drives are WD Caviar Blacks 2TB; however, I have recently learned that due to the lack of TLER those drives are awful for any RAID setup other than 0 or 1. That being said, my third drive is a Seagate Barracuda 3TB (ST300DM001) and I have found a RAID controller that states it supports it, so I'd like to use this same type of drive, if possible. Have any of you had any experience using this drive or a similar one in a RAID5 configuration? The manufacturer states that it supports it, but knowing that it is not an enterprise drive, I am slightly concerned that it could drop out of the array. I would just go with enterprise drives, but those are about double in cost...   • High CPU from httpd process

    I am currently getting high CPU on a server that is just running a couple of sites with very low traffic. One of the sites is in still development going live soon. However, this site is very very slow...When browsing through its pages I can see that the CPU goes from 30% to 100% for httpd (see top output below). I have tuned httpd & MySQL, Apache Solr, Tomcat for high performance, and I am using APC.     Hi, We have a Microsoft Access database + application (on Server A) which connects to a remote SQL server (Server B) using System DSN ODBC connection (on Server A) to the SQL database server. The users are open this Access database remotely as it is on a shared location on the server A. They still have to create a local ODBC connection on their computers to connect to Server B. Is there anyway that they can access the Access database and not have to create a local ODBC connection? thanks in advance

It comes with 2 iSCSI ports. I want to connect to two LUNs on the SAN server through two separate Targets from CentOS 5.7 64bits server. My network setup is as follows: CentOS server: Management network - 192.168.1.1 Storage network 1 - 192.168.5.2 Storage network 2 - 192.168.6.2 Promise SAN server: Management network - 192.168.1.2 iSCSI Port 1 - 192.168.5.1 iSCSI Port 2 - 192.168.6.1 I have two Logical Drives on this SAN and they are mapped as follows: Index Initiator Name LUN Mapping 0 iqn.2011-11:backup (LD0,0) 1 iqn.2011-11:template (LD1,1) Basically, I want the traffic to iqn.2011-11:backup LUN 0 through 192.168.5.1 network the traffic to iqn.2011-11:template LUN 1 through 192.168.6.1 network I don't use MPIO, just want to separate the traffic to avoid traffic jam. How do I achieve this? I am new to SAN stuff, please explain as much detail as you can. Thank you. The following are what I am doing now.   • MySQL and PostgreSQL on the same hardware

    We recently bought some new hardware for a database server which we were intending to dedicate to the operation of PostgreSQL. However now we have the requirement to also run MySQL as some software we want to use only supports that database. Since the storage on this machine is the most suitable for hosting a DB, and we don't currently have the budget for more hardware,we're thinking of running both of them on the same server. Are there any caveats or best practices we should be aware of?

  • Insufficient Permissions on UNC Path for Physical Path in IIS7

    I've got a multi-server setup where Server A is hosting the html files and Server B is running IIS 7.5. I've specified a UNC path for the Physical Path of the website on Server B. When I try to hit localhost I'm receiving the following error: Cannot read configuration file due to insufficient permissions I am able to browse and modify files in the UNC path on Server B. I'm guessing it has something to do with IIS_IUSRS of Server B not having permissions, but I'm unsure how to add them to the shared directory of Server A.
