• Cycling through ItemStacks whlie supplying data... LOST [on hold]

• Dynamic Colorbox galleries using Ajax

  Hi, I am new to jQuery / AJAX. I have a page that uses colorbox to display photo galleries. The page displays only one image from each gallery. When clicked, a colorbox opens up with all of the photos from that gallery. These inner photo references (for all photos from all galleries) are hidden on the page in an invisible div. The page is a PHP generated page. The galleries/photos are being populated via Picasa. All of the above works fine, but instead of loading all of the images from all galleries on page load (via PHP), I'd like to load only the requested gallery into the colorbox via AJAX. So far, I have a test page which can insert the proper links into a div on the page, but the Colorbox won't pick up on these links. This is where I need help. How can I get Colorbox to recognize the links generated by my AJAX call?   I tried to deploy the sample application from this tutorial: http://united-coders.com/phillip-steffensen/developing-a-simple-soap-webservice-using-spring-30-apache-cxf-226-and-maven-2 In eclipse everything works fine, but i went to troubles when deploying the service. The cxf-java2ws-plugin throws a ClassNotFoundException for org.springframework.core.NestedRuntimeException. • jquery ajax error cannot find url outside of debug mode

  I inherited some code two weeks ago that is using the jquery.ajax method to connect to a .NET web service. When running this site out of debug mode through visual studio I am not having any problem connecting to the database through the web service and seeing all my data, for both viewing and updating. When I go through the normal web server for the same site, on the same page, no data is showing up. When I put a break on the error portion of the code above in firebug this is information I am getting in the image linked below. link text I am getting what appears to be a 404 error, but when I look on the server all of the files are in the right place... coupled with the fact that it works when in debug mode, I think I am slowly going crazy staring at these same lines of code trying to find the needle in the haystack. Any help or just a direction to look in would be greatly appreciated.

• jqtransform and collapsed DIV

  Hello, I am using a jQuery plugin called: jqtransform This plugin uses JavaScript to apply CSS styles to form elements. The problem that I have consists in the following scenario: I’m building a search page, with a advanced search option. When the page loads, the div called “advancedSearch” is hidden, and it will only show if the user clicks a element. Inside the div#advancedSearch I have several form elements. However, if I hide the div#advancedSearch with the CSS style: “diplay:none;”, the jqtransform plugin doesn’t work correctly with the elements that are hidden. So my solution was to hide the div#advancedsearch with JavaScript. This actually works, and it does not matter if it’s done after the document is ready or not. But… with the JavaScript solution, the div#advancedSearch stays visible for a couple of milliseconds… which is visually annoying. So I was wondering if the solution to this problem would be in the CSS, or in correcting the jqtransform plugin, or even in finding a way to immediately hide the div#advancedSearch with JS making it immediately hidden. If I press the a#applyStyle, before expanding the div#advancedSearch I get the same problem that I had. But if I expand the the div#advancedSearch and press the the a#applyStyle after, the problem is solved. However, if I run the page with the $('form').jqTransform(); function on the load, I cannot reapply it after with the pressing of the a#applyStyle. I think that the solution could be: disabling the all the elements that are inside the div#advancedSearch, and on the same function that expands the div, make It also apply the styles to the elements that are inside the div#advancedSearch. However, I don’t know how to do this (nether if this will work). PS: This seems to be a known issue with the plugin, but I cannot wait indefinitely for a solution.

• Using Core Data Concurrently and Reliably

  I'm building my first iOS app, which in theory should be pretty straightforward but I'm having difficulty making it sufficiently bulletproof for me to feel confident submitting it to the App Store. Briefly, the main screen has a table view, upon selecting a row it segues to another table view that displays information relevant for the selected row in a master-detail fashion. The underlying data is retrieved as JSON data from a web service once a day and then cached in a Core Data store. The data previous to that day is deleted to stop the SQLite database file from growing indefinitely. All data persistence operations are performed using Core Data, with an NSFetchedResultsController underpinning the detail table view. The problem I am seeing is that if you switch quickly between the master and detail screens several times whilst fresh data is being retrieved, parsed and saved, the app freezes or crashes completely. There seems to be some sort of race condition, maybe due to Core Data importing data in the background whilst the main thread is trying to perform a fetch, but I'm speculating. I've had trouble capturing any meaningful crash information, usually it's a SIGSEGV deep in the Core Data stack. The table below shows the actual order of events that happen when the detail table view controller is loaded: Main Thread Background Thread viewDidLoad Get JSON data (using AFNetworking) Create child NSManagedObjectContext (MOC) Parse JSON data Insert managed objects in child MOC Save child MOC Post import completion notification Receive import completion notification Save parent MOC Perform fetch and reload table view Delete old managed objects in child MOC Save child MOC Post deletion completion notification Receive deletion completion notification Save parent MOC Once the AFNetworking completion block is triggered when the JSON data has arrived, a nested NSManagedObjectContext is created and passed to an "importer" object that parses the JSON data and saves the objects to the Core Data store. The importer executes using the new performBlock method introduced in iOS 5: NSManagedObjectContext *child = [[NSManagedObjectContext alloc] initWithConcurrencyType:NSPrivateQueueConcurrencyType]; [child setParentContext:self.managedObjectContext]; [child performBlock:^{ // Create importer instance, passing it the child MOC... }]; The importer object observes its own MOC's NSManagedObjectContextDidSaveNotification and then posts its own notification which is observed by the detail table view controller. When this notification is posted the table view controller performs a save on its own (parent) MOC. I use the same basic pattern with a "deleter" object for deleting the old data after the new data for the day has been imported. This occurs asynchronously after the new data has been fetched by the fetched results controller and the detail table view has been reloaded. One thing I am not doing is observing any merge notifications or locking any of the managed object contexts or the persistent store coordinator. Is this something I should be doing? I'm a bit unsure how to architect this all correctly so would appreciate any advice.

• How to pass multiple PHP variables to a jQuery function?

  I'm working on a Wordpress plugin. I need to pass plugin directories (that can change depending on an individual's installation) to a jquery function. What is the best way of doing this? The version of the plugin that I can to work on had included all the javascript in the PHP file so the functions were parsed along with the rest of the content before being rendered in a browser. I'm looking at AJAX but I think it might be more complicated than I need. I can get away with just two variables in this case (directories, nothing set by the user). As I've read its good practice, I'm trying to keep the js and php separate. When the plugin initializes, it call the js file: //Wordpress calls the .js when the plugin loads wp_enqueue_script( 'wp-backitup-funtions', plugin_dir_url( __FILE__ ) . • How can I automatically update Flash Player whenever a new version is released? [closed]

  Summary: Flash Player Update Service doesn't run on a reliable schedule, and doesn't automatically download and apply updates when it does run. Given the importance of having an up-to-date version of Flash Player installed (for those of us who don't use Chrome with its built-in player), I would like to find a way to ensure that new updates are promptly detected and installed. What follows are the details of my efforts to solve this problem on my own... Appendix A: Flash Player Update Service OK, way back in Flash Player 11.2 (or so?) Adobe added the Flash Player Update Service (FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe), it was supposed to keep the Flash Player updated... Upon installation, FPUS is configured to run as a Windows Service, with Start Type set to Manual. A Scheduled Task (Adobe Flash Player Updater.job) is added to start this service every hour. So far, so good - this set-up avoids having a constantly-running service, but makes sure that the checks are run often enough to catch any updates quickly. Google's software updater is configured in a similar fashion, and that works just fine... ...And yet, when I checked the version of my installed Flash Player, I found it was 11.6.602.180, which, based on looking at the timestamps of the files in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash was last updated (or installed) on Tue, Mar 12, 2013 --- 3/12/13, 5:00:08pm. I made this observation on Thu, Apr 25, 2013 --- 4/25/13, 7:00:00pm, and upon checking Adobe's website found that the current version of Flash Player was 11.7.700.169. That's over a month since the last update, with a new one clearly available on the website but with no indication that the hourly check running on my machine has noticed it or has any intention of downloading it. Appendix B: running the Flash Player updater manually Once upon a time, running FlashUtil32_<version_Plugin.exe -update plugin would give you a window with an Install button; pressing it would download the installer for the current version (automatically, without opening a browser) and run it, then you'd click thru that installer & be done. It was manual, but it worked! Finding my current installation out of date (see Appendix A), I first tried this manual update process. However... Running FlashUtil32_<version_ActiveX.exe -update activex (in my case, that's FlashUtil32_11_6_602_180_ActiveX.exe -update activex) ...only presents a window with a Download button, clicking that Download button opens my browser to the URL https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/update/activex. Running FlashUtil32_<version_Plugin.exe -update plugin (in my case, that's FlashUtil32_11_6_602_180_Plugin.exe -update plugin) ...only presents a window with a Download button, clicking that Download button opens my browser to the URL https://get3.adobe.com/flashplayer/update/plugin. I could continue with the Download page it sent me to, uncheck the foistware box ("Free! McAfee Security Scan Plus"), download that installer (ActiveX, no foistware: install_flashplayer11x32axau_mssd_aih.exe, Plugin, no foistware: install_flashplayer11x32au_mssd_aih.exe) & probably have an updated Flash...but then, what is the point of the Flash Player Update Service if I have to manually download & run another exe? Epilogue I've since come to suspect that the update service is intentionally hobbled to drive early adopters to the manual download page. If this is true, there's probably no solution to this short of writing my own updater; hopefully I am wrong.

• Christian Radio Locator iPhone app

  For the last three months or so I've been working on an iPhone (and iPad) app in my spare time. It all started when I took the kids to Minneapolis and had a hard time finding radio stations to listen to on the trip. I looked in the App Store for an app that would use my GPS to show me Christian radio stations nearby, but there wasn't one. So I decided to build my own. Using public information from the FCC and a few other sources, I built a database in Google docs that contains the frequency for all Christian radio stations, where the tower is located and how far the tower can reach. I also included any streaming audio information and other contact information like Facebook or Twitter that I could find. Google spreadsheets publish in JSON format (yes, really) and Xcode can automatically deserialize JSON into a properly formatted entity. This is one area that Xcode is far superior to C#. In a just a few lines of code, I can have a list of in-memory strongly typed objects from a web-based JSON feed. To accomplish the same thing natively in .NET would be much more work and wouldn't feel nearly as clean when it was said and done. The snazzy icon shown above was built by my very talented wife. She hasn't yet provided any feedback on the app's user interface, which is why it is so plain and boring. I used a navigation view controller and EGO pull to refresh table view to construct the main window. Pulling down to refresh initiates a GPS lookup, which queries the database for radio stations in range (yes, you can pass parameters to Google spreadsheets and get a subset back in JSON). Pulling up on the table extends the range of the search and includes stations that may not be close enough to get clear audio. This feature is not that intuitive and the next version contains an update to that functionality. Tapping a cell will show a detail view that displays additional information about the station. The user can click to view the station on a map, click to listen to an online stream (if available) or click to see the station's Facebook or Twitter pages. Swiping back and forth on the table changes the information that is displayed on the right hand side of the table cell. It scrolls through the city where the tower is located, how far the phone is from the tower, the range of the tower and in the next version a signal strength indicator. This was pretty easy to implement once I figured out how to assign the gesture recognizer delegate.  Tapping and holding on a cell will jump the user to the map view screen. Which is pretty cool, but very hard for even a power user to discover. To tackle the issue of discoverability, the next version has a series of instructions displayed at the bottom of the screen to show the user the various shortcuts. Once the user has performed the swipes and long holds, the instructions disappear. I've learned a lot developing this app. Spending over a decade exclusively in .NET made the learning curve a bit steep, but once I learned the structure and syntax of Objective-C, I've learned to appreciate the power and simplicity of it. Here are a few screenshots. I would really appreciate any feedback and especially iTunes reviews. Technically it is open source and a smart googler could probably find it. • Changing the action of a hyperlink in a Silverlight RichTextArea

  The title of this post could also have been "Move over Hyperlink, here comes Actionlink" or "Creating interactive text in Silverlight." But alas, there can be only one. Hyperlinks are very useful. However, they are also limited because their action is fixed: browse to a URL. This may have been adequate at the start of the Internet, but nowadays, in web applications, the one thing we do not want to happen is a complete change of context. In applications we typically like a hyperlink selection to initiate an action that updates a part of the screen. For instance, if my application has a map displayed with some text next to it, the map would react to a selection of a hyperlink in the text, e.g. by zooming in on a location and displaying additional locational information in a popup. In this way, the text becomes interactive text. It is quite common that one company creates and maintains websites for many client companies. To keep maintenance cost low, it is important that the content of these websites can be updated by the client companies themselves, without the need to involve a software engineer. To accommodate this scenario, we want the author of the interactive text to configure all hyperlinks (without writing any code). In a Silverlight RichTextArea, the default action of a Hyperlink is the same as a traditional hyperlink, but it can be changed: if the Command property has a value then upon a click event this command is called with the value of the CommandParameter as parameter. How can we let the author of the text specify a command for each hyperlink in the text, and how can we let an application react properly to a hyperlink selection event? We are talking about any command here. Obviously, the application would recognize only a specific set of commands, with well defined parameters, but the approach we take here is generic in the sense that it pertains to the RichTextArea and any command. So what do we require? We wish that: As a text author, I can configure the action of a hyperlink in a (rich) text without writing code; As a text author, I can persist the action of a hyperlink with the text; As a reader of persisted text, I can click a hyperlink and the configured action will happen; As an application developer, I can configure a control to use my application specific commands. In an excellent introduction to the RichTextArea, John Papa shows (among other things) how to persist a text created using this control. To meet our requirements, we can create a subclass of RichTextArea that uses John's code and allows plugging in two command specific components: one to prompt for a command definition, and one to execute the command. Since both of these plugins are application specific, our RichTextArea subclass should not assume anything about them except their interface. public interface IDefineCommand { void Prompt(string content, // the link content Action<string, object> callback); // the method called to convey the link definition } public interface IPerformCommand : ICommand {} The IDefineCommand plugin receives the content of the link (the text visible to the reader) and displays some kind of control that allows the author to define the link. When that's done, this (possibly changed) content string is conveyed back to the RichTextArea, together with an object that defines the command to execute when the link is clicked by the reader of the published text. The IPerformCommand plugin simply implements System.Windows.Input.ICommand. Let's use MEF to load the proper plugins. In the example solution there is a project that contains rudimentary implementations of these. The IDefineCommand plugin simply prompts for a command string (cf. a command line or query string), and the IPerformCommand plugin displays a MessageBox showing this command string. An actual application using this extended RichTextArea would have its own set of commands, each having their own parameters, and hence would provide more user friendly application specific plugins. A key is a field name and attribute, an identifier. The content of that field is its value, the data that is being identified and stored. They have a very simple implementation of NoSQL database concepts. They do not have schema hence they are very flexible as well as scalable. The disadvantages of Key Value Pair (KVP) database are that they do not follow ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability) properties. Additionally, it will require data architects to plan for data placement, replication as well as high availability. In KVP databases the data is stored as strings. As there is no specific schema or rules associated with the database, there are chances that database grows exponentially as well. It is very crucial to select the right Key Value Pair Database which offers an additional set of tools to manage the data and provides finer control over various business aspects of the same. Riak Rick is one of the most popular Key Value Database. It is known for its scalability and performance in high volume and velocity database. Additionally, it implements a mechanism for collection key and values which further helps to build manageable system. We will further discuss Riak in future blog posts. Key Value Databases are a good choice for social media, communities, caching layers for connecting other databases. In simpler words, whenever we required flexibility of the data storage keeping scalability in mind – KVP databases are good options to consider. Document Database There are two different kinds of document databases. 1) Full document Content (web pages, word docs etc) and 2) Storing Document Components for storage. The second types of the document database we are talking about over here. They use Javascript Object Notation (JSON) and Binary JSON for the structure of the documents. JSON is very easy to understand language and it is very easy to write for applications. There are two major structures of JSON used for Document Database – 1) Name Value Pairs and 2) Ordered List. MongoDB and CouchDB are two of the most popular Open Source NonRelational Document Database. MongoDB MongoDB databases are called collections. Each collection is build of documents and each document is composed of fields. MongoDB collections can be indexed for optimal performance. MongoDB ecosystem is highly available, supports query services as well as MapReduce. It is often used in high volume content management system. CouchDB CouchDB databases are composed of documents which consists fields and attachments (known as description). It supports ACID properties. The main attraction points of CouchDB are that it will continue to operate even though network connectivity is sketchy. Due to this nature CouchDB prefers local data storage. Document Database is a good choice of the database when users have to generate dynamic reports from elements which are changing very frequently. A good example of document usages is in real time analytics in social networking or content management system. • MySQL InnoDB disappeared, all InnoDB data cant be accessed

I started by making a full copy of the data dir for testing various 'fixes'. • Ubuntu 12.10 no network and no graphics

  I recently upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 only to find out that it won't connect to any network, neither wired nor wireless and the graphics is messed up too as in a low screen resolution. For 12.04, my system was running perfectly. I don't know why upgrade messed it up so bad. Reinstalling the OS is an issue because I have set up a lot of development environments that I cannot afford to set it up again.   Our proxy went down and I tried to update dependencies with maven while it was off. Since then I can't download anything with maven. I get this error for everything. I tried -U option, deleting my local repository and tried different maven version (2.0.9, 2.2.1) but it doesn't work. Any idea how to solve this? Earlier it also said 'repository will be blacklisted' to all of them.   Thanks to Darin Dimitrov's suggestion I got a big step further in understanding good MVC code, but I'm having some problems making it flexible. I implemented Darin's suggested solution, and it works perfectly for single controllers. However I'm having some trouble implementing it with some flexibility. What I'm looking for is this; To be able to make dynamic column names in json Instead of using "Column1: 'value', ..." and "Column2: 'value', ..." inside the json, I'd like to use for example "id: 'value', ..." and "place: 'value' ..." for one stored procedure, and "animal" and "type" in another (inside the json format). To be able to make dynamic amounts of columns dependent on which stored procedure is called Some stored procedures I'll want to read more than 2 rows from, is there a smart way of accomplishing that? To be able to make numeric (floats and integers) rows from the database be presented inside the json without quotes Like this (name and age); { Column1: "John", Column2: 53 }, I would be very grateful for any feedback and suggestions / code examples I can get here. Even imperfect ones.

  I have been writing a Delphi library for StackApps API. I have run into a problem with Indy. I am using the version that ships with Delphi 2010. If you pass invalid parameters to one of the StackApps API it will return a HTTP Error Code 400 and then in the response it will contain a JSON object with more details.
