  • scope equivalent in rails 2.3.x?

    Is there a way to generate a group of routes under an admin scope without having to create a new physical directory (like namespace requires you to). I know that in Rails 3 there is a scope method on the route mapper, and this appears to do what I want, but apparently it doesn't exist in Rails 2.3.x My goal is to have a route like this: "/admin/products" map to "app/controllers/products_controller, not "app/controllers/admin/products_controller". Is there any way to accomplish this in Rails 2.3.x?

    An object that implements IDisposable has, you guessed it, a Dispose() method. In the code you write you should both declare and instantiate any object that implements IDisposable with the using statement. The using statement allows you to set the scope of an object and when your code exits that scope, the object will be disposed of. Note that when an exception occurs, this will pull your code out of scope, so it still forces a Dispose() using (mObject o = new mObject()) { // do stuff } //<- out of Scope, object is disposed. // Note that you can also use multiple objects using // the using statement if of the same type: using (mObject o = new mObject(), o2 = new mObject(), o3 = new mObject()) { // do stuff } //<- out of Scope, objects are disposed. What about try{ }finally{}? It is not needed when you use the using statement. Additionally, using is preferred, Microsoft’s own documents put it this way: As a rule, when you use an IDisposable object, you should declare and instantiate it in a using statement. When I started out in .NET I had a very bad habit of not using the using statement. As a result I ran into what many developers do: #region BAD CODE - DO NOT DO try { mObject o = new mObject(); //do stuff } finally { o.Dispose(); // error - o is out of scope, no such object. } // and here is what I find on blogs all over the place as a solution // pox upon them for creating bad habits. mObject o = new mObject(); try { //do stuff } finally { o.Dispose(); } #endregion So when should I use the using statement? Very simple rule, if an object implements IDisposable, use it. This of course does not apply if the object is going to be used as a global object outside of a method. If that is the case, don’t forget to dispose of the object in code somewhere. It should be made clear that using the try{}finally{} code block is not going to break your code, nor cause memory leaks. It is perfectly acceptable coding practice, just not best coding practice in C#. This is how VB.NET developers must code, as there is no using equivalent for them to use.

    I have run update-alternatives as well as gnome preffered apps selection thing. And all point to have chromium browser as default. Yet when I run xdg-open http://askubuntu.com firefox is launched! Similarly emacs and bzr also launch stuff in firefox instead of chromium. Are there any additional settings which affect xdg-open functionality? Something is definatly broken: UPDATE I have purged firefox: update-alternatives - uses chromium browser sensible-browser - opens chromium browser xdg-open & gnome-open - opens using google-chrome which kindly tells me "it's not default browser" !!!!

    I was accessing a server running Ubuntu 12.04 Server using SSH and managed to lock myself out of it. I'm still wondering how that happened: The firewall was enabled by default; sudo ufw status did not show any rules (but I could SSH to the server normally); I tried explicitly allowing ports 80 and 443 using the commands: sudo ufw allow 80 sudo ufw allow 443 sudo ufw status now showed something like: Status: active To Action From -- ------ ---- 80 ALLOW Anywhere 80 ALLOW Anywhere (v6) 443 ALLOW Anywhere 443 ALLOW Anywhere (v6) (Recalling from memory and seeing some examples; I can't access the server to see the exact output, so I might be mistaken) After logging out of SSH, now I can't log in anymore (connection timeout). What just happened? There were no DENY rules previously (AFAIK), neither I introduced any. How could SSH be previously available and now it's not? Does ufw (or more precisely iptables) allow everything by default, unless you explicitly allow something, then it denies everything by default? Or did I do something wrong, that broke the existing rules somehow?

  • Nifty default controls prevent the rest of my game from rendering

    I've been trying to add a basic HUD to my 2D LWJGL game using nifty gui, and while I've been successful in rendering panels and static text on top of the game, using the built-in nifty controls (e.g. an editable text field) causes the rest of my game to not render. The strange part is that I don't even have to render the gui control, merely declaring it appears to cause this problem.   • How do set default values in django for an HttpRequest.GET?

    I have a webpage that displays data based on a default date. The user can then change their view of the data by slecting a date with a date picker and clicking a submit button. I already have a variable set so that if no date is chosen, a default date is used.... so what's the problem? The problem comes if the user trys to type in the url page without a parameter... like so: http://mywebpage/viewdata (example A) instead of http://mywebpage/viewdata?date= (example B) I tried using: if request.method == 'GET': but apparently, even example A still returns true. I'm sure I'm doing some obvious beginner's mistake but I'll ask anyway... Is there a simpler way to handle example A other than passing the url to a string and checking the string for "?date="?

  • Why are there two implementations of std::sort (with and without a comparator) rather than one implementation with a default template parameter?

    In my code I'm adopting a design strategy which is similar to some standard library algorithms in that the exact behavior can be customized by a function object. The simplest example is std::sort, where a function object can control how the comparison is made between objects. I notice that the Visual C++ provides two implementations of std::sort, which naturally involves code duplication. I would have imagined that it was instead possible to have only one implementation, and provide a default comparator (using operator< ) as a default template parameter. What is the rational behind two separate versions? Would my suggestion make the interface more complex in some way? Or result in confusing error messages when the object does not provide operator Thanks, David

  • Best way to set a default button (or trigger its event in javascript) for an input field, not part of a form

    I've got a stand-alone input field, not part of any form. I also got a button, that has some onclick event. When I type something in the input field, and press the Enter key, I want it do effectively press the button, or trigger its onclick event. So that the button is "the input field's default button" so to speak. <input id='myText' type='text' /> <button id='myButton' onclick='DoSomething()'>Do it!</button> I guess I can mess around with the input field's onkeypress or onkeydown events and check for the Enter key, etc. But is there a more 'clean' way, I mean something that associated the button with that input field, so that the button is the 'default action' or something for that field? Note that I'm not inside a form, I am not sending, posting, or submitting something. The DoSomething() function just changes some of the HTML content locally, depending on the text input.

  • Need help using a super scope

    I have a windows server 2008 r2 standard running our DCHP, DNS, and AD. also I have (3) HP Pro Curve 2510-G switches (J9280A). Right now our LAN is set up 192.168.50.2-192.168.50.254 on our sub-net (A) and another scope with 192.168.51.2-192.168.51.254 sub-net (B) both have sub-net mask of 255.255.255.0. The same server is our DNS which is 192.168.50.242 and our firewall (watchguard) is the gateway at 192.168.50.1. Right now the sub-net (B) does not have DHCP active so only sub-net (A) is giving a pool. My problem is that we are trying to have open WiFi on our network and i am assuming that i can use the sub-net (B) for that if i activate it and use sub-net (A) for our staff only. I have noticed that when i set up a static on a client pc and set it to 192.168.51.x i cannot use the DNS of 192.168.50.242 however i can use 8.8.8.8 and it works fine, i am guessing that because it is on a different sub-net? Forgive me as i am very new at this and dont know a lot. Is there easy way with the equipment i have to a accommodate wifi for hundreds of people without causing problems for our staff? (multiple same IP address assigns) I appreciate any and all info!

  • Windows Not Honoring DHCP Scope

    Please bear with me as I'm not a networking person by trade. Our current configuration at work includes two Windows Servers serving as DHCP/Active Directory servers (if that makes sense) -- one replicating from the other. On both machines, the DNS resolution is set up as: Main Windows Box (10...* address) Public IP Address (for Verizon) Public IP Address (secondary Verizon) Secondary Windows Box (10...* address) Assuming our domain is foo.com, we maintain the foo.com website on a hosted VPS with it's own IP address. The problem is that even though bar.foo.com is an internal server and is defined in DNS on the Primary Windows machine, when I ping bar or even bar.foo.com it resolves to the hosted IP address instead of the 10.* address. I tried taking both of the Public IP addresses out of the DHCP scope, and that seemed to work, but it completely slowed down access to any external sites, so that wasn't acceptable. I also tried adding the two Windows machine as the DNS servers on my desktop. That too worked, but I'd rather not have everything enter their DNS servers, as the above setup should theoretically be working. Is there anything I could check to see why pinging bar.foo.com isn't resolving to the DNS entry on the Windows machines? Here's a summary of the ping results, if they help: Pinging from servers with static IP bar.foo.com resolves with correct IP address Pinging from linux machines not joined to the domain bar.foo.com resolves with correct IP address Pinging from user's desktop machines, joined to the domain, but dynamic IP bar.foo.com resolves with incorrect IP address This is driving me crazy!

    I'm a bit of a beginner with Unix systems, but I'm running Cygwin on my Windows Server, and I am trying to figure out something related to extended ACLs. I have a directory to which I set the following ACLs: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ setfacl -m d:u:Someuser:r-- somedir Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/ # file: somedir/ # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rwx group::r-x mask:rwx other:r-x default:user::rwx default:user:Someuser:r-- default:group::r-x default:mask:rwx default:other:r-x As you can see mose of the default ACLs have the x bit. Then when I create a fine in it, it doesn't inherit the ACLs it is supposed to: Administrator@MyServer ~ $ touch somedir/somefile Administrator@MyServer ~ $ getfacl somedir/somefile # file: somedir/somefile # owner: Administrator # group: None user::rw- user:Someuser:r-- group::r-- mask:rwx other:r-- It's basically missing the x bit everywhere. Any idea why?

  • PHP Preserve scope when calling a function

    I have a function that includes a file based on the string that gets passed to it i.e. the action variable from the query string. I use this for filtering purposes etc so people can't include files they shouldn't be able to and if the file doesn't exist a default file is loaded instead. The problem is that when the function runs and includes the file scope, is lost because the include ran inside a function. This becomes a problem because I use a global configuration file, then I use specific configuration files for each module on the site. The way I'm doing it at the moment is defining the variables I want to be able to use as global and then adding them into the top of the filtering function. Is there any easier way to do this, i.e. by preserving scope when a function call is made or is there such a thing as PHP macros? Edit: Would it be better to use extract($_GLOBALS); inside my function call instead? Edit 2: For anyone that cared. I realised I was over thinking the problem altogether and that instead of using a function I should just use an include, duh! That way I can keep my scope and have my cake too.

  • Yii 'limit' on related model's scope

    I have a model called Guesses that has_many Comments. I'm making eager queries to this to then pass on as JSON as response to an API call. The relations are obviously set between the two models and they are correct(one2many <= belongs2) I added a scope to Comments called 'api' like this: public function scopes() { return array( 'api' => array( 'select' => 'id, comment, date', 'limit'=>3, 'order'=>'date DESC', 'together'=>true, ), ); } And I'm running the following one-liner query: $data = Guesses::model()->with('comments:api')->findAll(); The issue here is that when calling the 'api' scope using a with('relation'), the limit property simply doesn't apply. I added the 'together'=true there for another type of scope, plus I hear it might help. It doesn't make a difference. I don't need all the comments of all Guesses. I want the top 3 (or 5). I am also trying to keep the one-liner call intact and simple, manage everything through scopes, relations and parameterized functions so that the API call itself is clean and simple. Any advice?

  • Change the default Icon on your jQuery UI Accordion

    I've got this question in one of my previous blogs posted here (the same blog is posted on codeasp.net too), dealing with jQuery UI Accordion and I thought it's nice to recap this in a blog post so that I will have it documented for further reference. In the previous blog, I'm creating tabs content navigation using jQuery UI Accordion. So, it's quite simple code and all I do there is calling accordion() function. <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">     $(function() {         $("#products").accordion();     }); </script> The default image icons for each item is the arrow. The accordion uses the right arrow and down arrow images. So, what we should do in order to change them? JQuery UI Accordion contains option with name icons that has header and headerSelected properties. We can override them with either the existing classes from jQuery UI themes or with our own. 1. Using existing jQuery UI Theme classes - Open the follownig link: http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/#icons You will see the icons available in the jQuery UI theme. Mouse over on each icon and you will see the class name for each icon. As you can see, each icon has class name constructed in the following way: ui-icon-<name> All icons in one image - In our example, I will use ui-icon-circle-plus  and ui-icon-circle-minus (plus and minus icons). - Lets set the icons <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">     $(function() {         //initialize accordion                 $("#products").accordion();         //set accordion header options         $("#products").accordion("option", "icons",         { 'header': 'ui-icon-circle-plus', 'headerSelected': 'ui-icon-circle-minus' });     }); </script> From the code above, you can see that I first intialize the accordion plugin, and after I override the default icons with the ui-icon-circle-plyus for header and ui-icon-circle-minus for headerSelected. Here is the end result: So, now you see we have the plus/minus circle icons for the default header state and the selected header state.   2. Add my own icons - If you want to add your own icons, you can do that by creating your own custom css classes. - Lets create classes for both, the header default state and header selected state <style type="text/css">     .defaultIcon     {         background-image: url(images/icons/defaultIcon.png) !important;         width: 25px;         height: 25px;     }     .selectedIcon     {         background-image: url(images/icons/selectedIcon.png) !important;         width: 25px;         height: 25px;     } </style> As you can see, I use my own images placed in images/icons/ folder - default icon - selected icon One very important thing to note here is the !important key added on each background-image property. It's like that in order to give highest importancy to our image so that the default jQuery UI theme icon images will have less importancy and won't be used. And the jQuery code is: <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">     $(function() {         //initialize accordion                 $("#products").accordion();         //set accordion header options         $("#products").accordion("option", "icons",         { 'header': 'defaultIcon', 'headerSelected': 'selectedIcon' });     }); </script> Note: For both #1 and #2 cases, we use the class names without adding . (dot) at the beginning of the name (as we do with selectors). That's because the the header and headerSelected properties accept classes only as a value, so the rest is done by the plugin itself.   • Is there a significant mechanical difference between these faux simulations of default parameters?

    C#4.0 introduced a very fancy and useful thing by allowing default parameters in methods. But C#3.0 doesn't. So if I want to simulate "default parameters", I have to create two of that method, one with those arguments and one without those arguments. There are two ways I could do this. Version A - Call the other method public string CutBetween(string str, string left, string right, bool inclusive) { return str.CutAfter(left, inclusive).CutBefore(right, inclusive); } public string CutBetween(string str, string left, string right) { return CutBetween(str, left, right, false); } Version B - Copy the method body public string CutBetween(string str, string left, string right, bool inclusive) { return str.CutAfter(left, inclusive).CutBefore(right, inclusive); } public string CutBetween(string str, string left, string right) { return str.CutAfter(left, false).CutBefore(right, false); } Is there any real difference between these? This isn't a question about optimization or resource usage or anything (though part of it is my general goal of remaining consistent), I don't even think there is any significant effect in picking one method or the other, but I find it wiser to ask about these things than perchance faultily assume.
