  • cuda/thrust: Trying to sort_by_key 2.8GB of data in 6GB of gpu RAM throws bad_alloc

    - by Sven K
    I have just started using thrust and one of the biggest issues I have so far is that there seems to be no documentation as to how much memory operations require. So I am not sure why the code below is throwing bad_alloc when trying to sort (before the sorting I still have 50% of GPU memory available, and I have 70GB of RAM available on the CPU)--can anyone shed some light on this? #include <thrust/device_vector.h> #include <thrust/sort.h> #include <thrust/random.h> void initialize_data(thrust::device_vector<uint64_t>& data) { thrust::fill(data.begin(), data.end(), 10); } #define BUFFERS 3 int main(void) { size_t N = 120 * 1024 * 1024; char line[256]; try { std::cout << "device_vector" << std::endl; typedef thrust::device_vector<uint64_t> vec64_t; // Each buffer is 900MB vec64_t c[3] = {vec64_t(N), vec64_t(N), vec64_t(N)}; initialize_data(c[0]); initialize_data(c[1]); initialize_data(c[2]); std::cout << "initialize_data finished... Press enter"; std::cin.getline(line, 0); // nvidia-smi reports 48% memory usage at this point (2959MB of // 6143MB) std::cout << "sort_by_key col 0" << std::endl; // throws bad_alloc thrust::sort_by_key(c[0].begin(), c[0].end(), thrust::make_zip_iterator(thrust::make_tuple(c[1].begin(), c[2].begin()))); std::cout << "sort_by_key col 1" << std::endl; thrust::sort_by_key(c[1].begin(), c[1].end(), thrust::make_zip_iterator(thrust::make_tuple(c[0].begin(), c[2].begin()))); } catch(thrust::system_error &e) { std::cerr << "Error: " << e.what() << std::endl; exit(-1); } return 0; }

  • C++ string sort like a human being?

    - by Walter Nissen
    I would like to sort alphanumeric strings the way a human being would sort them. I.e., "A2" comes before "A10", and "a" certainly comes before "Z"! Is there any way to do with without writing a mini-parser? Ideally it would also put "A1B1" before "A1B10". I see the question "Natural (human alpha-numeric) sort in Microsoft SQL 2005" with a possible answer, but it uses various library functions, as does "Sorting Strings for Humans with IComparer". Below is a test case that currently fails: #include <set> #include <iterator> #include <iostream> #include <vector> #include <cassert> template <typename T> struct LexicographicSort { inline bool operator() (const T& lhs, const T& rhs) const{ std::ostringstream s1,s2; s1 << toLower(lhs); s2 << toLower(rhs); bool less = s1.str() < s2.str(); std::cout<<s1.str()<<" "<<s2.str()<<" "<<less<<"\n"; return less; } inline std::string toLower(const std::string& str) const { std::string newString(""); for (std::string::const_iterator charIt = str.begin(); charIt!=str.end();++charIt) { newString.push_back(std::tolower(*charIt)); } return newString; } }; int main(void) { const std::string reference[5] = {"ab","B","c1","c2","c10"}; std::vector<std::string> referenceStrings(&(reference[0]), &(reference[5])); //Insert in reverse order so we know they get sorted std::set<std::string,LexicographicSort<std::string> > strings(referenceStrings.rbegin(), referenceStrings.rend()); std::cout<<"Items:\n"; std::copy(strings.begin(), strings.end(), std::ostream_iterator<std::string>(std::cout, "\n")); std::vector<std::string> sortedStrings(strings.begin(), strings.end()); assert(sortedStrings == referenceStrings); }

  • Ajax loaded content , jquery plugins not working

    - by Sylph
    Hello, I have a link that calls the ajax to load content, and after the content is loaded, my jquery function doesn't work anymore Here is my HTML <a href="#" onclick="javascript:makeRequest('content.html','');">Load Content</a> <span id="result"> <table id="myTable" valign="top" class="tablesorter"> <thead> <tr> <th>Title 1</th> <th>Level 1</th> <th>Topics</th> <th>Resources</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>Example title 1</td> <td>Example level 1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Example title 2</td> <td>Example level 2</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </span> The table is sorted using jquery table sorter plugin from http://tablesorter.com/docs/ After the ajax content is loaded, another set of table with different data will be displayed. However, the sorting doesn't work anymore. Here is my ajax script which is use to load the content : var http_request = false; function makeRequest(url, parameters) { http_request = false; if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { // Mozilla, Safari,... http_request = new XMLHttpRequest(); if (http_request.overrideMimeType) { // set type accordingly to anticipated content type //http_request.overrideMimeType('text/xml'); http_request.overrideMimeType('text/html'); } } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { // IE try { http_request = new ActiveXObject("Msxml2.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) { try { http_request = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); } catch (e) {} } } if (!http_request) { alert('Cannot create XMLHTTP instance'); return false; } http_request.onreadystatechange = alertContents; http_request.open('GET', url + parameters, true); http_request.send(null); } function alertContents() { if (http_request.readyState == 4) { // alert(http_request.status); if (http_request.status == 200) { //alert(http_request.responseText); result = http_request.responseText; document.getElementById('result').innerHTML = result; } else { alert('There was a problem with the request.'); } } } Any idea how I can get the jquery plugins to work after the content is loaded? I have searched and changed the jquery.tablesorter.js click function into live() like this $headers.live("click",function(e) but it doesn't work as well. How can I make the jquery functions to work after the content is loaded? Thank you

  • Merge Sort issue when removing the array copy step

    - by Ime Prezime
    I've been having an issue that I couldn't debug for quite some time. I am trying to implement a MergeSort algorithm with no additional steps of array copying by following Robert Sedgewick's algorithm in "Algorithm's in C++" book. Short description of the algorithm: The recursive program is set up to sort b, leaving results in a. Thus, the recursive calls are written to leave their result in b, and we use the basic merge program to merge those files from b into a. In this way, all the data movement is done during the course of the merges. The problem is that I cannot find any logical errors but the sorting isn't done properly. Data gets overwritten somewhere and I cannot determine what logical error causes this. The data is sorted when the program is finished but it is not the same data any more. For example, Input array: { A, Z, W, B, G, C } produces the array: { A, G, W, W, Z, Z }. I can obviously see that it must be a logical error somewhere, but I have been trying to debug this for a pretty long time and I think a fresh set of eyes could maybe see what I'm missing cause I really can't find anything wrong. My code: static const int M = 5; void insertion(char** a, int l, int r) { int i,j; char * temp; for (i = 1; i < r + 1; i++) { temp = a[i]; j = i; while (j > 0 && strcmp(a[j-1], temp) > 0) { a[j] = a[j-1]; j = j - 1; } a[j] = temp; } } //merging a and b into c void merge(char ** c,char ** a, int N, char ** b, int M) { for (int i = 0, j = 0, k = 0; k < N+M; k++) { if (i == N) { c[k] = b[j++]; continue; } if (j == M) { c[k] = a[i++]; continue; } c[k] = strcmp(a[i], b[j]) < 0 ? a[i++] : b[j++]; } } void mergesortAux(char ** a, char ** b, int l, int r) { if(r - l <= M) { insertion(a, l, r); return; } int m = (l + r)/2; mergesortAux(b, a, l, m); //merge sort left mergesortAux(b, a, m+1, r); //merge sort right merge(a+l, b+l, m-l+1, b+m+1, r-m); //merge } void mergesort(char ** a,int l, int r, int size) { static char ** aux = (char**)malloc(size * sizeof(char*)); for(int i = l; i < size; i++) aux[i] = a[i]; mergesortAux(a, aux, l, r); free(aux); }

  • Simple 'database' in c++

    - by DevAno1
    Hello. My task was to create pseudodatabase in c++. There are 3 tables given, that store name(char*), age(int), and sex (bool). Write a program allowing to : - add new data to the tables - show all records - sort tables with criteria : - name increasing/decreasing - age increasing/decreasing - sex Using function templates is a must. Also size of arrays must be variable, depending on the amount of records. I have some code but there are still problems there. Here's what I have: Function tabSize() for returning size of array. But currently it returns size of pointer I guess : #include <iostream> using namespace std; template<typename TYPE> int tabSize(TYPE *T) { int size = 0; size = sizeof(T) / sizeof(T[0]); return size; } How to make it return size of array, not its pointer ? Next the most important : add() for adding new elements. Inside first I get the size of array (but hence it returns value of pointer, and not size it's of no use now :/). Then I think I must check if TYPE of data is char. Or am I wrong ? // add(newElement, table) template<typename TYPE> TYPE add(TYPE L, TYPE *T) { int s = tabSize(T); //here check if TYPE = char. If yes, get the length of the new name int len = 0; while (L[len] != '\0') { len++; } //current length of table int tabLen = 0; while (T[tabLen] != '\0') { tabLen++; } //if TYPE is char //if current length of table + length of new element exceeds table size create new table if(len + tabLen > s) { int newLen = len + tabLen; TYPE newTab = new [newLen]; for(int j=0; j < newLen; j++ ){ if(j == tabLen -1){ for(int k = 0; k < len; k++){ newTab[k] = } } else { newTab[j] = T[j]; } } } //else check if tabLen + 1 is greater than s. If yes enlarge table by 1. } Am I thinking correct here ? Last functions show() is correct I guess : template<typename TYPE> TYPE show(TYPE *L) { int len = 0; while (L[len] == '\0') { len++; } for(int i=0; i<len; i++) { cout << L[i] << endl; } } and problem with sort() is as follows : Ho can I influence if sorting is decreasing or increasing ? I'm using bubble sort here. template<typename TYPE> TYPE sort(TYPE *L, int sort) { int s = tabSize(L); int len = 0; while (L[len] == '\0') { len++; } //add control increasing/decreasing sort int i,j; for(i=0;i<len;i++) { for(j=0;j<i;j++) { if(L[i]>L[j]) { int temp=L[i]; L[i]=L[j]; L[j]=temp; } } } } And main function to run it : int main() { int sort=0; //0 increasing, 1 decreasing char * name[100]; int age[10]; bool sex[10]; char c[] = "Tom"; name[0] = "John"; name[1] = "Mike"; cout << add(c, name) << endl; system("pause"); return 0; }

  • XSL testing empty strings with <xsl:if> and sorting

    - by AdRock
    I am having trouble with a template that has to check 3 different nodes and if they are not empty, print the data I am using for each node then doing the output but it is not printing anything. It is like the test returns zero. I have selected the parent node of each node i want to check the length on as the template match but it still doesn't work. Another thing, how do i sort the list using . I tried using this but i get an error about loading the stylesheet. If i take out the sort it works <xsl:template match="folktask/member"> <xsl:if test="user/account/userlevel='3'"> <xsl:sort select="festival/event/datefrom"/> <div class="userdiv"> <xsl:apply-templates select="user"/> <xsl:apply-templates select="festival"/> </div> </xsl:if> </xsl:template> <xsl:template match="festival"> <xsl:apply-templates select="contact"/> </xsl:template> This should hopefully finish all my stylesheets. This is the template I am calling <xsl:template match="contact"> <xsl:if test="string-length(contelephone)!=0"> <div class="small bold">TELEPHONE:</div> <div class="large"> <xsl:value-of select="contelephone/." /> </div> </xsl:if> <xsl:if test="string-length(conmobile)!=0"> <div class="small bold">MOBILE:</div> <div class="large"> <xsl:value-of select="conmobile/." /> </div> </xsl:if> <xsl:if test="string-length(fax)!=0"> <div class="small bold">FAX:</div> <div class="large"> <xsl:value-of select="fax/." /> </div> </xsl:if> </xsl:template> and a section of my xml. If you need me to edit my post so you can see the full code i will but the rest works fine. <folktask> <member> <user id="4"> <personal> <name>Connor Lawson</name> <sex>Male</sex> <address1>12 Ash Way</address1> <address2></address2> <city>Swindon</city> <county>Wiltshire</county> <postcode>SN3 6GS</postcode> <telephone>01791928119</telephone> <mobile>07338695664</mobile> <email>[email protected]</email> </personal> <account> <username>iTuneStinker</username> <password>3a1f5fda21a07bfff20c41272bae7192</password> <userlevel>3</userlevel> <signupdate>2010-03-26T09:23:50</signupdate> </account> </user> <festival id="1"> <event> <eventname>Oxford Folk Festival</eventname> <url>http://www.oxfordfolkfestival.com/</url> <datefrom>2010-04-07</datefrom> <dateto>2010-04-09</dateto> <location>Oxford</location> <eventpostcode>OX1 9BE</eventpostcode> <coords> <lat>51.735640</lat> <lng>-1.276136</lng> </coords> </event> <contact> <conname>Stuart Vincent</conname> <conaddress1>P.O.   • Sorting a Multidimensional array...

    - by sologhost
    I need to sort an array that can look like this: $array[4][0] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 2); $array[3][2] = array('id' => 0, 'value' => 3); $array[4][1] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 0); $array[1][3] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[1][1] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 0); $array[3][0] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[3][1] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 0); $array[1][2] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 2); $array[1][0] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[2][1] = array('id' => 0, 'value' => 2); $array[2][4] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 1); But needs to be sorted and returned as this: $array[1][0] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[1][1] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 0); $array[1][2] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 2); $array[1][3] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[2][1] = array('id' => 0, 'value' => 2); $array[2][4] = array('id' => 3, 'value' => 1); $array[3][0] = array('id' => 2, 'value' => 1); $array[3][1] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 0); $array[3][2] = array('id' => 0, 'value' => 3); $array[4][0] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 2); $array[4][1] = array('id' => 1, 'value' => 0); Can anyone help me? It needs to sort both indexes of the array from lowest to highest index value. Sounds simple enough, but I'm having the hardest time trying to figure this out, while still keeping the values intact. Please help someone...

  • Sorting deeply nested attributes in Rails

    - by Senthil
    I want to be able to drag and drag App model which is nested under Category model. http://railscasts.com/episodes/196-nested-model-form-part-1 's the Railscast I've tried to follow. Category controller def move params[:apps].each_with_index do |id, index| Category.last.apps.update(['position=?', index+1], ['id=?', Category.last.id]) end render :nothing => true end I'm able to sort Categories with something similar, but since I'm updating an attribute, I'm having trouble. def sort params[:categories].each_with_index do |id, index| Category.update_all(['position=?', index+1], ['id=?', id]) end render :nothing => true end Any help is appreciated.

  • Sorting an observable collection with linq

    - by zachary
    I have an observable collection and I sort it using linq. Everything is great, but the problem I have is how do I sort the actual observable collection? Instead I just end up with some IEnumerable thing and I end up clearing the collection and adding the stuff back in. This can't be good for performance. Does anyone know of a better way to do this?

  • Crystal Reports Xi - Sorting a CrossTab Report by a Summary Field

    - by Albert
    So I have a simple crosstab report that calculates number of sales in the columns, and the rows are each office. The last column on the right is a total column, which contains a summary field (via a count of the identity field) that adds up the total number of sales per office. How can I sort the crosstab data so the office with the most sales is the top row, and the rest in order under it?

  • Gridview sorting: SortDirection always Ascending

    - by Julien N
    Hi ! I have a gridview and I need to sort its elements when the user clicks on the header. Its datasource is a List object. The aspx is defined this way : <asp:GridView ID="grdHeader" AllowSorting="true" AllowPaging="false" AutoGenerateColumns="false" Width="780" runat="server" OnSorting="grdHeader_OnSorting" EnableViewState="true"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="Entitycode" HeaderText="Entity" SortExpression="Entitycode" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Statusname" HeaderText="Status" SortExpression="Statusname" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Username" HeaderText="User" SortExpression="Username" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> The code behind is defined this way : First load : protected void btnSearch_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { List<V_ReportPeriodStatusEntity> items = GetPeriodStatusesForScreenSelection(); this.grdHeader.DataSource = items; this.grdHeader.DataBind(); } when the user clicks on headers : protected void grdHeader_OnSorting(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { List<V_ReportPeriodStatusEntity> items = GetPeriodStatusesForScreenSelection(); items.Sort(new Helpers.GenericComparer<V_ReportPeriodStatusEntity>(e.SortExpression, e.SortDirection)); grdHeader.DataSource = items; grdHeader.DataBind(); } My problem is that e.SortDirection is always set to Ascending. I have webpage with a similar code and it works well, e.SortDirection alternates between Ascending and Descending. What did I do wrong ?

  • multicolumn sorting of WinForms DataGridView

    - by Bi
    I have a DataGridView in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name, and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings. For example, if I have the rows: 01 |Name1 | 2010-05-05 10:00 PM 02 |Name2 | 2010-05-02 08:00 AM 03 |Name2 | 2010-05-01 08:00 AM 04 |Name1 | 2010-05-01 11:00 AM 05 |Name1 | 2010-05-04 07:00 AM needs to be sorted as 04 |Name1 | 2010-05-01 11:00 AM 05 |Name1 | 2010-05-04 07:00 AM 01 |Name1 | 2010-05-05 10:00 PM 03 |Name2 | 2010-05-01 08:00 AM 02 |Name2 | 2010-05-02 08:00 AM I am not sure how to go about using the below: myGrid.Sort(.....,ListSortDirection.Ascending)

  • Sorting Anonymous Types

    - by strobaek
    I have a question of how to sort an anonymous type. Using Linq2SQL I have the following query, which returns a list of submissions: var submissions = EventSubmissions .Where(s => s.EventId.Equals(eventId)); Consider the following interface (somewhat simplyfied): public interface IQuerySorter { IOrderedQueryable Sort(IQueryable query); IOrderedQueryable<T> Sort<T, U>(IQueryable<T> query, Expression<Func<T,U>> selector); ... } Using this interface allows me to implement a number of 'sorters', e.g. on Date, Rating or whether or not a submission has been nominated (for voting). sortedQuery = sorter.Sort(submissions) So far so good. A submission can be made "votable". I get the number of votes a nominated submission may have using the following query: var withVoteCount = submissions .Select(s => new {NumberOfVotes = s.Votes.Count(), Submission = s}); I would like to sort this new query by NumberOfVotes using my "general" sorter class, but run into the problem that the anonymous type/member does not seem to live outside the repository-method, hence I am unable to sort on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  • VBA-Sorting the data in a listbox, sort works but data in listbox not changed

    - by Mike Clemens
    A listbox is passed, the data placed in an array, the array is sort and then the data is placed back in the listbox. The part that does work is putting the data back in the listbox. Its like the listbox is being passed by value instead of by ref. Here's the sub that does the sort and the line of code that calls the sort sub. Private Sub SortListBox(ByRef LB As MSForms.ListBox) Dim First As Integer Dim Last As Integer Dim NumItems As Integer Dim i As Integer Dim j As Integer Dim Temp As String Dim TempArray() As Variant ReDim TempArray(LB.ListCount) First = LBound(TempArray) ' this works correctly Last = UBound(TempArray) - 1 ' this works correctly For i = First To Last TempArray(i) = LB.List(i) ' this works correctly Next i For i = First To Last For j = i + 1 To Last If TempArray(i) > TempArray(j) Then Temp = TempArray(j) TempArray(j) = TempArray(i) TempArray(i) = Temp End If Next j Next i ! data is now sorted LB.Clear ! this doesn't clear the items in the listbox For i = First To Last LB.AddItem TempArray(i) ! this doesn't work either Next i End Sub Private Sub InitializeForm() ' There's code here to put data in the list box Call SortListBox(FieldSelect.CompleteList) End Sub Thanks for your help.

  • Sorting tasks to assign

    - by Diego
    I've got a problem that I don't know where to start. I'd realy appreciate some help. The problem: I have several T task that must be done in D days by just 1 employee (let's forget using several resources right now). Each task can be done in some times (not all tasks can be done all time). e.g.: If my employee starts working at 8 o'clock and one task is "call a client". Maybe the client office opens at 9 o'clock. Also each task has a duration (really estimated). It is supposed that the D days are enough to do all task. I've to sort the tasks to the employee. e.g.: at monday 8:00 do task 7, then at 9:30 starts with task 2. In the example task 7 duration would be 1 and a half hour. Thanks for the help! Diego PD: If someone has a way to make this and it is not an algorithm never minds, please answer and I'll manage to think the algorithm. I just don't know how to face the problem. Edit Would Project be usefull? Edit 2 Tasks / Jobs dependency is NOT required

  • Time complexity of a sorting algorithm

    - by Passonate Learner
    The two programs below get n integers from file and calculates the sum of ath to bth integers q(number of question) times. I think the upper program has worse time complexity than the lower, but I'm having problems calculating the time complexity of these two algorithms. [input sample] 5 3 5 4 3 2 1 2 3 3 4 2 4 [output sample] 7 5 9 Program 1: #include <stdio.h> FILE *in=fopen("input.txt","r"); FILE *out=fopen("output.txt","w"); int n,q,a,b,sum; int data[1000]; int main() int i,j; fscanf(in,"%d%d",&n,&q); for(i=1;i<=n;i++) fscanf(in,"%d",&data[i]); for i=0;i<q;i++) { fscanf(in,"%d%d",&a,&b); sum=0; for(j=a;j<=b;j++) sum+=data[j]; fprintf(out,"%d\n",sum); } return 0; } Program 2: #include <stdio.h> FILE *in=fopen("input.txt","r"); FILE *out=fopen("output.txt","w"); int n,q,a,b; int data[1000]; int sum[1000]; int main() { int i,j; fscanf(in,"%d%d",&n,&q); for(i=1;i<=n;i++) fscanf(in,"%d",&data[i]); for(i=1;i<=n;i++) sum[i]=sum[i-1]+data[i]; for(i=0;i<q;i++) { fscanf(in,"%d%d",&a,&b); fprintf(out,"%d\n",sum[b]-sum[a-1]); } return 0; } The programs below gets n integers from 1 to m and sorts them. Again, I cannot calculate the time complexity. [input sample] 5 5 2 1 3 4 5 [output sample] 1 2 3 4 5 Program: #include <stdio.h> FILE *in=fopen("input.txt","r") FILE *out=fopen("output.txt","w") int n,m; int data[1000]; int count[1000]; int main() { int i,j; fscanf(in,"%d%d",&n,&m); for(i=0;i<n;i++) { fscanf(in,"%d",&data[i]); count[data[i]]++ } for(i=1;i<=m;i++) { for(j=0;j<count[i];j++) fprintf(out,"%d ",i); } return 0; } It's ironic(or not) that I cannot calculate the time complexity of my own algorithms, but I have passions to learn, so please programming gurus, help me!

The question is, how can I write this so I can?

The date fields in the RSS feed are in the following format: "Mon, 16 Feb 2009 16:02:44 GMT" I'm having big problems getting the records to sort correctly - I've tried lots of different code examples I've seen, but none seem to sort the records correctly. The code for my XSL sheet is shown below, and the feed in question is here. Very grateful for anyones help!!! Thanks, Chris. XSL CODE: <xsl:stylesheet version="1.1" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:digg="http://digg.com//docs/diggrss/" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"> <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:for-each select="//*[local-name()='item'][position() < 6]"> <p> <a> <xsl:attribute name="href"> <xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='link']"/></xsl:attribute> <xsl:attribute name="target"> <xsl:text>top</xsl:text> </xsl:attribute> <xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='title']"/> </a> <br/> <span class="smaller"><xsl:value-of select="*[local-name()='pubDate']" disable-output-escaping="yes"/></span> </p> </xsl:for-each>

  • Core Data: NSFetchRequest sorting by count of to-many relationship

    - by Ben Reeves
    Say I have an parent entity, each of which have a number of children. I want to get all the parents sorted by their number of children. Something similar to the following pseudo code: NSEntityDescription * entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Parent" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"children.count" ascending:NO]; //Execute request Is there a way construct a fetch like this using core data? Thanks, Ben

  • Python sorting list of dictionaries by multiple keys

    - by simi
    I have a list of dicts: b = [{u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Utley, Alex', u'Total_Points': 96.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Russo, Brandon', u'Total_Points': 96.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Chappell, Justin', u'Total_Points': 96.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Foster, Toney', u'Total_Points': 80.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Lawson, Roman', u'Total_Points': 80.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Lempke, Sam', u'Total_Points': 80.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Gnezda, Alex', u'Total_Points': 78.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Kirks, Damien', u'Total_Points': 78.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Worden, Tom', u'Total_Points': 78.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Korecz, Mike', u'Total_Points': 78.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Swartz, Brian', u'Total_Points': 66.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Burgess, Randy', u'Total_Points': 66.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Smugala, Ryan', u'Total_Points': 66.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Harmon, Gary', u'Total_Points': 66.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Blasinsky, Scott', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Carter III, Laymon', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Coleman, Johnathan', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Venditti, Nick', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Blackwell, Devon', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Kovach, Alex', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Bolden, Antonio', u'Total_Points': 60.0}, {u'TOT_PTS_Misc': u'Smith, Ryan', u'Total_Points': 60.0}] and I need to use a multi key sort reversed by Total_Points, then not reversed by TOT_PTS_Misc. This can be done at the command prompt like so: a = sorted(b, key=lambda d: (-d['Total_Points'], d['TOT_PTS_Misc'])) But I have to run this through a function, where I pass in the list and the sort keys. For example, def multikeysort(dict_list, sortkeys):. How can the lambda line be used which will sort the list, for an arbitrary number of keys that are passed in to the multikeysort function, and take into consideration that the sortkeys may have any number of keys and those that need reversed sorts will be identified with a '-' before it?

  • Odd Drag and drop sorting error Rails for nested attributes

    - by Senthil
    I've got this weird bug when trying to use drag and drag for two models (one nested within another). I've a category model which has many apps. In my category index page, I tried use "content_tag_for" to sort categories and apps within each category. But for some odd reason only the first element has drag, drop enabled. I can drag and drop categories all I want, but I can't drag the app in the second category, just the first category. Copy and paste gets ridiculously hopeless with HAML, so here's a Pastie instead. I made a sample app on heroku for you to check out here. Drag and drag work for both category and app, so I'm guessing it has to do something with the ul or li. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Sorting an array in PHP based on different values

    - by Jimbo
    I have an array whose elements are name, reversed_name, first_initial and second_initial. A typical row is "Aaron Smith", "Smith, Aaron", "a", "s". Each row in the array has a first_initial or second_initial value of "a". I need to display the rows alphabetically but based on the "a" part, so that either the name or reversed_name will be displayed. An example output would be: Aaron Smith Abbot, Paul Adrian Jones Anita Thompson Atherton, Susan I really have no idea how to sort the array this way so any help will be much appreciated!
