    I get output files from very old Fortran programs, which look like: 0.81667E+00 -0.12650E+01 -0.69389E-03 0.94381E+00 -0.11985E+01 -0.11502E+00 0.96064E+00 -0.11333E+01 -0.17616E+00 0.10202E+01 -0.12435E+01 -0.93917E-01 0.10026E+01 -0.10904E+01 -0.15108E+00 0.90516E+00 -0.11030E+01 -0.19139E+00 0.98624E+00 -0.11598E+01 -0.22970E+00 Is it possible to read this in Python and convert the numbers to "normal" floats?

  • Can I avoid a threaded UDP socket in Python dropping data?

    First off, I'm new to Python and learning on the job, so be gentle! I'm trying to write a threaded Python app for Windows that reads data from a UDP socket (thread-1), writes it to file (thread-2), and displays the live data (thread-3) to a widget (gtk.Image using a gtk.gdk.pixbuf). I'm using queues for communicating data between threads. My problem is that if I start only threads 1 and 3 (so skip the file writing for now), it seems that I lose some data after the first few samples. After this drop it looks fine. Even by letting thread 1 complete before running thread 3, this apparent drop is still there. Apologies for the length of code snippet (I've removed the thread that writes to file), but I felt removing code would just prompt questions.   • How do you create a transaction that spans multiple statements in Python with MySQLdb?

    I know that with an InnoDB table, transactions are autocommit, however I understand that to mean for a single statement? For example, I want to check if a user exists in a table, and then if it doesn't, create it. However there lies a race condition. I believe using a transaction prior to doing the select, will ensure that the table remains untouched until the subsequent insert, and the transaction is committed. How can you do this with MySQLdb and Python?

I use this code for that: r = subprocess.Popen(shlex.split("which git"), stdout=subprocess.PIPE) print r.stdout.read() but the problem is that output is empty (I tried stderr too). It works fine with another commands such as pwd or ls. Can anyone help me with that?

What is the difference between this: class MyClass(): pass And this: class MyClass(object): pass As far as I understand, object is the base class for all classes and the subclassing is implied. Do you get anything from explicitly subclassing from it? What is the most "Pythonic" thing to do?

I want to be able to open the file without any user interaction.
