  • PRoblem with converting form_tag in rails

    - by Gigg
I am new to ruby and rails and I am having a problem from Beggining Ruby on Rails Ecommerce. (Yes, its an old book). I have these 2 code sets for a view: new.html.erb: <%= form_tag :action= 'create' do -% <%= render :partial = 'form' % <%= submit_tag 'Create' % <%= end -% <% link_to 'Back', :action = 'index' % _form.html.erb: <% error_messages_for 'supplier' % First Name Last Name But It wont show although I added the do option. It keeps giving me this error: C:/rails/emporium/app/views/admin/supplier/new.html.erb:1: syntax error, unexpected ')' ...orm_tag :action= 'create' do ).to_s) ... ^ C:/rails/emporium/app/views/admin/supplier/new.html.erb:4: syntax error, unexpected keyword_end ; @output_buffer.concat(( end ).to_s) ^ C:/rails/emporium/app/views/admin/supplier/new.html.erb:5: syntax error, unexpected tIVAR, expecting ')' @output_buffer.concat "\n" ^ C:/rails/emporium/app/views/admin/supplier/new.html.erb:7: syntax error, unexpected keyword_ensure, expecting keyword_end C:/rails/emporium/app/views/admin/supplier/new.html.erb:9: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting ')' Can anyone suggest how I fix this since I have not fould a google answer yet. Thanks Gigg

  • MissingSourceFile when I run "cucumber features"

    - by Jess
I had cucumber 0.6.1 working quite fine... but I ran the gem update cucumber command, and things went smoothly. Then when I decided to run the cucumber features command, I received this error: Using the default profile... no such file to load -- cucumber/webrat/element_locator (MissingSourceFile) /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in gem_original_require' /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:inpolyglot_original_require' So I tried a few things... I did a gem update on webrat, that didn't work. I removed all previous versions of cucumber by doing gem uninstall cucumber then selecting past versions. Same with webrat. No luck. What am I doing wrong?

  • Helping using FirePHP to debug a .php application

    - by Angela
Hi, just set up FirePHP and using a framework called Qcodo / Qcubed. Has anyone heard of these on SO? Been having challenges debugging -- trying to do a fairly simple new() and save() and then output via Ajax but not getting any kind of responsiveness from errors. Any help for us, two of us have checked it out but can't seem to get a response. Thanks! BTW, here's the class which seems to be creating the problems: http://github.com/allyforce/AF-upload/blob/master/Library/Target1.class.php

  • How can you debug Lego Mindstorms programs?

    - by chris
Is there any way to add any sort of debugging to a Lego Mindstorms program, when using the NXT drag-and-drop environment? It would be nice to be able to monitor the status of the various sensors, but even knowing what step in the program was running would be nice.

  • Streaming files from EventMachine handler?

    - by Noah
I am creating a streaming eventmachine server. I'm concerned about avoiding blocking IO or doing anything else to muck up the event loop. From what I've read, ruby's non-blocking IO can be used to stream files in a non-blocking way, or I can call next_tick, but I'm a little unclear about which of these approaches is preferable. Part of the problem is that I have not found a good explanation of non-blocking IO library functions in ruby. Short version: Assuming a long-lived network IO operation, several wall clock minutes of streaming per file, transfer, what is the best way to do this in eventmachine without gumming up the event loop? while 1 do file.read do |bytes| @conn.send_data bytes end end I understand that the above code will block and I'm wondering what to put in its place. Also, I cannot use the FileStreamer class that is part of eventmachine as is, because I need to manipulate the data after it's read but before it's sent. Thanks, Noah

  • Why does running rake gems:unpack result in a Gem::FilePermissionError

    - by Globalkeith
I'm attempting to upgrade the friendly_id gem in a rails project. I have removed the old gem from the vendor directory, installed the new gem from rubygems.org. When I type: rake gems:unpack I get the following response: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 directory. Sure, I realise I can sudo it, but what I don't understand is if I would like to unpack the gem into my project vender directory, why does it need access to /usr/lib/ruby/gems....

  • Rails app is prepending tunnlr web address when using link helpers

    - by mathee
I set up facebooker to tunnel my Ruby on Rails application. The issue is that I would like to test locally. That is, I don't want to have to start a tunnel every time I want to see my changes. Right now, when I start the application using ruby script/server (not calling rake facebooker:tunnel:background_start beforehand), links created by helpers (e.g., stylesheet_link_tag, javascript_include_tag, image_tag) are prepended with my tunnlr address: http://web1.tunnlr.com:myPort/. (For example, a CSS link looks like this in the page source: http://web1.tunnlr.com:myPort//stylesheets/appName.css?1234567890.) I don't want that functionality; I can't see my CSS or JavaScript changes without starting the tunnel first. I want the links to be relative to what's running on my machine, not the tunnel. So, stylesheet_link_tag should produce /stylesheets/appName.css?1234567890. Does anyone know why it's doing that in the first place and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

  • Java: how to debug an invalid JSTL declaration?

    - by Webinator
I've seen this kind of issue on SO (and on the Net overall) quite a few times. For example here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1884529 Earlier today I was trying on a JSP (regular .jsp, not .jspx) to do this, because I stupidly cut/pasted some example found on the net: <%@ taglib prefix = "c" uri = "http://java.sun.com/jstl/core"%> Then my .jsp was giving a blank page. No error message in the Tomcat log. No nothing. Just a blank page. While, of course (I'm being sarcastic here), the correct line was this: <%@ taglib prefix = "c" uri = "http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core"%> There was a "jsp/" missing (which I found a hint to in yet another SO question). So obviously such issues are common. I can't believe you have to wait for things "not to work" to know you've there's an error and I'm honestly a bit confuzzabled by the number of questions found on the net (and here on SO) where the answer is basically "fix your declaration". My question here is simple: how do you know that it's a declaration issue? What thought process is required here to diagnose and troubleshoot such issues? Are there tools that can help here? (I don't know, like, say, IntelliJ IDEA or Eclipse or Emacs in nxml-mode warning you in real time that the declared URI is invalid?)

  • How do i use RVM w/ Hudson CI server on Debian?

    - by JoshReedSchramm
I'm trying to setup an automated "build" server for my rails projects using Hudson CI. SO far it's able to run specs and do metrics on the code but I have 2 different projects dependent on 2 different versions of ruby. So i'm trying to use RVM to run multiple copies of ruby then switch back and forth in a pre-build step. I found a couple posts like this one that try and explain how to make this work, but I'm not running a startup script for hudson, it starts on boot which is how it worked out of the box when i installed it via the debian instructions. The problem seems to be that even though hudson runs under the "hudson" account and that account has rvm installed (and working) when it tries to run a shell based prebuild step to call rvm switch 1.8.7 it fails with the error "rvm: command not found" Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Hudson is using SH as its shell but i also tried using bash. no luck. Has anyone gotten this working before in this setup?

  • Simplest way to debug an android bluetooth application

    - by intiha
I am trying to test and build a sample android application that can simply connect to a BT server to send and receive a few packets. Since the emulator has no support what is the next best thing to test BT communication? Can I just run a code that acts as a server on my laptop and dumps BT connection onto a console? Do I have to write this code, or is their a simple tool that saves me that hassle? One more thing, I have windows 7, and currently I attach to my PC an anycom USB BT adapter. This is able to show up my nexus one as a BT device. I can pair to my laptop but connection always fails. When it tries to pair I have tried both 0000 and 1234 as suggested on my nexus, but in my connection list it still lists my laptop as paired but not connected. Any idea why? I searched for this problem and apparently people talk about rebooting and power cycling BT, but these solutions dont work for me. Thanks. Affan.

  • how to run phantomjs on heroku?

    - by mathieurip
I am trying to run phantomjs on the heroku cedar stack. I am using a phantomjs buildpack for heroku https://github.com/stomita/heroku-buildpack-phantomjs. However I followed the instructions but still cannot make it work. When I run the command heroku run bash and type phantomjs --version it says phantomjs: command not found I read things about LD_LIBRARY_PATH that needs to be set to "/usr/local/lib:/usr/lib:/lib:/app/vendor/phantomjs/lib", this is what i did but without success. Is there something that i am missing ? Where does the buildpack install the phantomjs binary exactly ? Is there a way to know the path where the binary is ? I am using ruby 1.9.2 Thanks a lot for your help. EDIT: To be more precise, i want to combine ruby and phantomjs, so i am using this custom buildpack: https://github.com/ddollar/heroku-buildpack-multi, but when i push to heroku i get "Heroku push rejected, failed to compile Multipack app"

  • Cleanest way to run/debug python programs in windows

    - by YGA
Python for Windows by default comes with IDLE, which is the barest-bones IDE I've ever encountered. For editing files, I'll stick to emacs, thank you very much. However, I want to run programs in some other shell than the crappy windows command prompt, which can't be widened to more than 80 characters. IDLE lets me run programs in it if I open the file, then hit F5 (to go Run- Run Module). I would rather like to just "run" the command, rather than going through the rigmarole of closing the emacs file, loading the IDLE file, etc. A scan of google and the IDLE docs doesn't seem to give much help about using IDLE's shell but not it's IDE. Any advice from the stack overflow guys? Ideally I'd either like advice on running programs using IDLE's shell advice on other ways to run python programs in windows outside of IDLE or "cmd". Thanks, /YGA

  • Action works, but test doesn't (Shoulda)

    - by trobrock
I am trying to test my update action in Rails with this: context "on PUT to :update" do setup do @countdown = Factory(:countdown) @new_countdown = Factory.stub(:countdown) put :update, :id => @countdown.id, :name => @new_countdown.name, :end => @new_countdown.end end should_respond_with :redirect should_redirect_to("the countdowns view") { countdown_url(assigns(:countdown)) } should_assign_to :countdown should_set_the_flash_to /updated/i should "save :countdown with new attributes" do @countdown = Countdown.find(@countdown.id) assert_equal @new_countdown.name, @countdown.name assert_equal 0, (@new_countdown.end - @countdown.end).to_i end end When I actually go through the updating process using the scaffold that was built it updates the record fine, but the tests give me this error: 1) Failure: test: on PUT to :update should save :countdown with new attributes. • Debug IPhone App on 3.1.2 Phone

    - by Steblo
Hello, I recently finished my first IPhone app and want to test it on my device now. I registered (and paid) for an Developer Account and managed to install the required certificates. Unfortunately my device is on firmware 3.1.2 (which I don't want to upgrade). My SDK only shows 3.1.3 as possible Target. As a result it can't be installed on my 3.1.2 device. Where can I set/change to target platform ? Otherwise my App would only run on the newest firmwares, right ? Instead I want to provide it to every User with OS 3.0

  • Permission denied - /tmp/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.c

    - by Ikaros
I have a Ruby on Rails app that I've recently deployed to a remote server (Ubuntu 9.10, nginx, passenger, ruby-enterprise) and I'm getting the error (works fine locally): Permission denied - /var/www/project_name/tmp/.ruby_inline/Inline_ImageScience_cdab.c First, the folder /tmp/.ruby_inline/ is empty - should it be? Is it trying to create Inline_ImageScience_cdab.c or read it? I think I have all the required gems installed: 'gem list' shows image_science and RubyInline installed. libfreeimage3 and libfreeimage-dev are also installed. I've run chmod 755 on /tmp/.ruby_inline/ to match the permissions on surrounding folders but I cannot go any higher than that, however, or I get another error: /var/www/project_name/tmp/.ruby_inline is insecure (40777). It may not be group or world writable. Exiting. And I guess second, why am I getting this error? :) Thanks

  • wcf trying to set up tracing to debug, not writing to log file

    - by joey j
here's my web.config, running a WCF service in an application on IIS7, but nothing is being written to the specified file. permission on the file has been granted for everyone. </listeners> I can add a service reference just fine. I then try to call the service from a windows app and, after a few minutes, get an error on the machine running the windows app "Client is unable to finish the security negotiation within the configured timeout (00:00:00). The current negotiation leg is 1 (00:00:00)." but absolutely nothing is written to the trace log file specified in config. Is there something else I need to do to enable tracing? thanks for your help EDIT: "sources" section now matches the section recommended here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa702726.aspx I've added the "diagnostics and the event viewer shows: "Message Logging has been turned on. Sensitive information may be logged in the clear, even if it was encrypted on the wire: for example, message bodies. Process Name: w3wp Process ID: 1784 " but the log file is still empty

  • How to get date format in result set?

    - by Prasanna
I have a sql to get data form mysql their I used dateformat to convert date required format Here is the sql SELECT m.id, m.subject, m.body, m.read, m.hide, m.thread_id, DATE_FORMAT(m.sent_date, '%d-%b-%Y') sent_date, u.username to_name FROM messages m, users u WHERE u.school_id = m.school_id AND u.id = m.to_user_id AND m.school_id = 18 AND m.user_id = 53 AND m.status = 'sent' ORDER BY m.sent_date DESC When I run this sql directly in mysql it works fine, sent_date comes as (19-Apr-2010). When I excute this in ruby, in result set the sent_date is stores as (Tue Apr 20 00:00:00 UTC 2010) messages = Message.find_by_sql(sql) puts messages[0]['sent_date'] puts statement prints "Tue Apr 20 00:00:00 UTC 2010" how to get same date format in mysql result and ruby result set. - by Daniel Upton
Hi, I've started using Vim for my rails development (who hasn't!).. And i'm loving it except that when im in a html.erb file (HTML and Ruby).. I get no snipMate snippets, I would like both html and ruby... or just html would be fine, How would i do this? Would i need to write a set of snippets? if so is there a way of pulling in existing snippets without copying them? Is there a way of telling vim to go into html mode when it sees .html erb? Thanks Daniel
