• Problem reintegrating a branch into the trunk in Subversion 1.5

  I'm trying to reintegrate a development branch into the trunk in my Subversion 1.5 repository. I merged all the changes from the trunk to the development branch prior to this operation. Now when I try to reintegrate the changes from the branch I get the following error message: Command: Reintegrate merge https://dev/svn/branches/devel into C:\trunk Error: Reintegrate can only be used if revisions 280 through 325 were previously Error: merged from https://dev/svn/trunk to the reintegrate Error: source, but this is not the case: Error: branches/devel/images/test Error: Missing ranges: /trunk/images/test:280-324 ... The message then goes on complaining about some folders in my project. But when I try to merge the changes from the trunk to the development branch again, TortoiseSVN tells me that there's nothing to merge (as I already merged all the changes before): Command: Merging revisions 1-HEAD of https://dev/svn/trunk into C:\devel, respecting ancestry Completed: C:\devel I'm trying to follow the instructions from here: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.5/svn.branchmerge.basicmerging.html, but there's nothing about solving such a problem. Any ideas? Perhaps I should just delete the trunk and then make a copy of my branch? But I'm not really sure if it's safe.

• Displaying ppt, doc, and xls in UIWebView doesn't work but pdf does

  It looks like a few people on stackoverflow get this to work but their code isn't posted. I'm using [web loadData:data MIMEType:MIMEType textEncodingName:@"UTF-8" baseURL:nil]; where MIMEType is: @"application/vnd.ms-powerpoint" @"application/vnd.ms-word" @"application/vnd.ms-excel" (BTW, I've seen DOC files use mimetype @"application/msword" but the "vnd" version seems more appropriate. I tried both just in case.) I verified that my 'data' is correct. PDF and TXT files work. When the UIWebView displays PPT, DOC, or XLS files, it's blank. I put NSLOG statements in my UIWebViewDelegate calls. shouldStartLoadWithRequest:<NSMutableURLRequest about:blank> navType:5 webViewDidStartLoad: didFailLoadWithError:Error Domain=NSURLErrorDomain Code=100 UserInfo=0x122503a0 "Operation could not be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error 100.)" didFailLoadWithError:Error Domain=WebKitErrorDomain Code=102 UserInfo=0x12253840 "Frame load interrupted" so obviously the load is failing, but why? If I change my mimetype to @"text/plain" for a PPT file, the UIWebView loads fine and displays unprintable characters, as expected. That's telling me the 'data' passed to loadData: is ok. Meaning my mimetypes are bad? And just to make sure my PPT, DOC, and XLS files are indeed ok to display, I created a simple html file with anchor tags to the files. When the html file is displayed in Safari on the iPhone, clicking on the files displays correctly in Safari. • Is it a good practice to suppress warnings?

  Sometimes while writing Java in Eclipse, I write code that generates warnings. A common one is this, which I get when extending the Exception class: public class NumberDivideException extends Exception { public NumberDivideException() { super("Illegal complex number operation!"); } public NumberDivideException(String s) { super(s); } } // end NumberDivideException The warning: The serializable class NumberDivideException does not declare a static final serialVersionUID field of type long. I know this warning is caused by my failure to... well, it says right above. I could solve it by including the serialVersionUID, but this is a one hour tiny assignment for school; I don't plan on serializing it anytime soon... The other option, of course, is to let Eclipse add @SuppressWarnings("serial"). But every time my mouse hovers over the Suppress option, I feel a little guilty. For programming in general, is it a good habit to suppress warnings? (Also, as a side question, is adding a "generated" serialVersionUID like serialVersionUID = -1049317663306637382L; the proper way to add a serialVersionUID, or do I have to determine the number some other way?)

• MacOSX: remove write-protect flag from file in Terminal

  Hi, I have a file on a FAT32 volume which is shown as write-protected in Finder (so I cannot move it). Removing that write-protected flag in the information dialog works just fine. However, I have many more such files and I thus want to do it via Terminal. I already tried via 'chmod +w' but that didn't worked. 'ls -la' showed me that they are already just fine ("-rwxrwxrwx 1 az az " where az is my user account). Then I thought this might be stored in some xattr properties but 'xattr -l' didn't gave me any entry. Then I thought this might be some ACL setting (whereby I thought they would be stored as xattr but let's try it anyway) - and some Google search returned me something with 'chmod -a' or 'chmod -i' or so. All these tries only give me chmod: No ACL currently associated with file" or chmod: Failed to set ACL on file...: Operation not permitted". But I definitly have no write access to the file because I cannot move it or do any other change to it (in Terminal). Removing the write-access flag in Finder solves that.

• how to create and track multiple pairs "View-ViewModel"?

  Hi! I am building an application that is based on MVVM-Light. I am in the need of creating multiple instances of the same View, and each one should bind to its own ViewModel. The default ViewModelLocator implements ViewModels as singletons, therefore different instances of the same View will bind to the same ViewModel. I could create the ViewModel in the VMLocator as a non-static object (as simple as returning new VM()...), but that would only partially help me. In fact, I still need to keep track of the opened windows. Nevertheless, each window might open several other windows (of a different kind, though). In this situation I might need to execute some operation on the parent View and all its children. For example before closing the View P, I might want to close all its children (view C1, view C2, etc.). Hence, is there any simple and easy way to achieve this? • Did you love the game Mouse Trap as a kid, or something similar? (Programmer Psychology) [closed]

  When I was a kid I absolutely fell in love with games that had as a core feature, the need to understand interconnecting structures. My favorite of all time was Mouse Trap. For the younger crowd out there, this was a very cool board game where you built the mouse trap out of the included plastic pieces as you played, with the end goal to trigger the mouse trap. The fully assembled mouse trap was a Rube Goldberg style invention where one operation triggered the next and the next and so on, until the last step dropped a cage on a little plastic mouse. Sometimes when I'm programming and I'm reviewing a particularly complex interaction between components and objects, while tracking the flow path mentally, I say to myself "It's a Mouse Trap!" and I wonder if my early addiction to that game and others like it was portent to my becoming a programmer. Another realization I have sometimes when looking at my code is how daunted I feel at the share complexity involved, followed by a darker comedic amazement at my expectation that it will all come together and work. How about you? Did you find yourself drawn to games that at their heart featured interacting control paths when growing up? Robert.

• Oracle performance problems with large batch of XSL operations

  I have a system that is performing many XSL transformations on XMLType objects. The problem is that the system gradually slows down over time, and sometimes crashes when it runs out of memory. It seems that the slow down (and possibly memory crash) is around the dbms_xslprocessor.processXSL function call, which gradually takes longer and longer to complete. • Data loss when downloading data from LDAP server

I have reached the point where I am taking an NSImage, turning it into NSData and uploading those data bytes to the LDAP server. • Visual Studio 2008 project organization for executable and assembly

  Hi - I am having a problem setting up the following in Visual Studio 2008: a parent project which includes the entrypoint Main() method class and which declares an interface, and a child project which has classes that implement the interface declared in the parent project. I have specified that Parent's Output type is a Console application, and Child's Output type is a Class library. In Child I have add a reference to the Parent as a project, and specified that Child depends on Parent and that the build order should be Parent, then Child. The build succeeds, and as far I can tell, the right things show up in the Child/bin/debug directory: Parent.exe and Child.dll. However, if I run Parent.exe, then at the point when it should load a class from the Child.dll, it fails with the error message: exception executing operation System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'Child.some.class' from assembly 'Parent, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'. I guess I'm confused as to how to get the Parent and Child projects to play together. I plan on having more child projects that use the same framework that is set up in the Parent, and so I do not want to move the entrypoint class down into the Child project. If I try to specify that the Child project is also a Console application, then the build process fails because there is no Main() entrypoint class in the child (even though the Parent project is included as a reference). • How can I prevent 'objects you are adding to the designer use a different data connection...'?

  I am using Visual Studio 2010, and I have a LINQ-to-SQL DBML file that my colleagues and I are using for this project. We have a connection string in the web.config file that the DBML is using. However, when I drag a new table from my "Server Explorer" onto the DBML file... I get presented with a dialog that demands that do one of these two options: Allow visual studio to change the connection string to match the one in my solution explorer. Cancel the operation (meaning, I don't get my table). I don't really care too much about the debate as why the PMs/devs who made this tool didn't allow a third option - "Create the object anyway - don't worry, I'm a developer!" What I am thinking would be a good solution is if I can create a connection in the Server Explorer - WITHOUT A WIZARD. If I can just paste a connection string, that would be awesome! Because then the DBML designer won't freak out on me :O) If anyone knows the answer to this question, or how to do the above, please lemme know!

  I'm designing a RESTful web service utilizing ROA(Resource oriented architecture). I'm trying to work out an efficient way to guarantee idempotence for PUT requests that create new resources in cases that the server designates the resource key. From my understanding, the traditional approach is to create a type of transaction resource such as /CREATE_PERSON. The the client-server interaction for creating a new person resource would be in two parts: Step 1: Get unique transaction id for creating the new PERSON resource::: **Client request:** GET /CREATE_PERSON **Server response:** 200 OK transaction-id:"as8yfasiob" Step 2: Create the new person resource in a request guaranteed to be unique by using the transaction id::: **Client request** PUT /CREATE_PERSON/{transaction_id} first_name="Big bubba" **Server response** 201 Created // (If the request is a duplicate, it would send this PersonKey="398u4nsdf" // same response without creating a new resource. It // would perhaps send an error response if the was used // on a transaction id non-duplicate request, but I have // control over the client, so I can guarantee that this // won't happen) The problem that I see with this approach is that it requires sending two requests to the server in order to do to single operation of creating a new PERSON resource. This creates a performance issues increasing the chance that the user will be waiting around for the client to complete their request. I've been trying to hash out ideas for eliminating the first step such as pre-sending transaction-id's with each request, but most of my ideas have other issues or involve sacrificing the statelessness of the application. Is there a way to do this?

• ASP.NET Sql Timeout

  Well we have this Asp.Net application that we installed at a customer but now some times we get a SqlException that says "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." now the wired thing is that the exception comes instantly when i press the button, this does not happen every time i press the button so its random.. any idea what i could try to pinpoint the problem? We are using the EnterpriseLibrary Database block if that matters... • LWUIT Deadlock (lwuit dialog VS System dialog)

  Hi, I have a deadlock problem when I try to make some I/O operations that needs user permission. When user click the button I start a new thread which is responsible for performing IO operations, and I display lwuit "please wait" dialog. Dialog is dismissed by IO thread from callback method. Problem is that, when system dialog appears (asking for user permission ) on top of lwuit dialog - deadlock occurs. I assume that this is because dialog.show() method blocks main thread (EDT), so it's impossible to dismiss system dialog, when lwuit dialog is behind it. Anyone managed to solve this problem? • How to deal with calculated values with Dependency Properties on a custom WPF control

  To summarize what I'm doing, I have a custom control that looks like a checked listbox and that has two dependency properties one that provides a list of available options and the other that represents a enum flag value that combines the selection options. So as I mentioned my custom control exposes two different DependencyProperties, one of which is a list of options called Options and the other property called SelectedOptions is of a specific Enum type that uses the [Flags] attribute to allow combinations of values to be set. My UserControl then contains an ItemsControl similar to a ListBox that is used to display the options along with a checkbox. When the check box is checked or unchecked the SelectedOptions property should be updated accordingly by using the corresponding bitwise operation. The problem I'm experiencing is that I have no way other than resorting to maintaining private fields and handling property change events to update my properties which just feels unatural in WPF. I have tried using ValueConverters but have run into the problem that I can't really using binding with the value converter binding so I would need to resort to hard coding my enum values as the ValueConverter parameter which is not acceptable. If anybody has seen a good example of how to do this sanely I would greatly appreciate any input. Side Note: This has been a problem I've had in the past too while trying to wrap my head around how dependency properties don't allow calculated or deferred values. Another example is when one may want to expose a property on a child control as a property on the parent. Most suggest in this case to use binding but that only works if the child controls property is a Dependency Property since placing the binding so that the target is the parent property it would be overwritten when the user of the parent control wants to set their own binding for that property.

  I got a thread dump of one of my processes. It has a bunch of these threads. I guess they are keeping a bunch of memory so I am getting OOM. If the task is taking too long, ExtractionThread.interrupt(); is called to cancel the operation. I can see in my logs that the cancellation happened 25 times. And I see 21 of these threads in my dump. My questions: What is the status of these threads? Alive and running? Blocked somehow? They did not die with .interrupt() apparently? Is there a sure way to really kill a thread? What does really mean 'locked ' in the stack trace? • Best way to close nested streams in Java?

  What is considered the best, most comprehensive way to close nested streams in Java? For example, consider the setup: FileOutputStream fos = new FileOutputStream(...) BufferedOS bos = new BufferedOS(fos); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); I understand the close operation needs to be insured (probably by using a finally clause). What I wonder about is, is it necessary to explicitly make sure the nested streams are closed, or is it enough to just make sure to close the outer stream (oos)? One thing I notice, at least dealing with this specific example, is that the inner streams only seem to throw FileNotFoundExceptions. Which would seem to imply that there's not technically a need to worry about closing them if they fail. Here's what a colleague wrote: Technically, if it were implemented right, closing the outermost stream (oos) should be enough. But the implementation seems flawed. Example: BufferedOutputStream inherits close() from FilterOutputStream, which defines it as: 155 public void close() throws IOException { 156 try { 157 flush(); 158 } catch (IOException ignored) { 159 } 160 out.close(); 161 } However, if flush() throws a runtime exception for some reason, then out.close() will never be called. So it seems "safest" (but ugly) to mostly worry about closing FOS, which is keeping the file open. What is considered to be the hands-down best, when-you-absolutely-need-to-be-sure, approach to closing nested streams? And are there any official Java/Sun docs that deal with this in fine detail?

Let's name this function comptime_nano(). • Implementing Struts 2 Interceptors using Struts 1

  Hello all, I have a legacy application written with Struts 1. The only feature I was asked to add is to protect some actions. Currently any user can do whatever he/she wants. The idea is to allows all user see the data, but block modification operation, i.e. to modify data a user should log in. I know Struts2 has interceptors, so I could attach them to required actions and forward users to log in page when needed. But how can I do similar thing in Struts 1 application? • How to prepopulate an Outlook MailItem and avoiding a com Exception from the object model guard

  Hi, I work for a company that develops a CRM tool and offers integration with MS Office(2003 & 2007) from windows XP to 7. (I'm working using Win7) My task is to call an Outlook instance (using C#) from this CRM tool when the user wants to send an email and prepopulate with data of the CRM tool (email, recipient, etc..) All of this already works just fine. The problem I'm having is that Outlook's "object model guard" is throwing com Exception (Operation aborted (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004004 (E_ABORT))) the moment I try to read a protected value from the mailItem (such as mail.bodyHTML). Example Snippet: using MSOutlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook; //untrusted Instance _outlook = new MSOutlook.Application(); MSOutlook.MailItem mail = (MSOutlook.MailItem)_outlook.CreateItem(MSOutlook.OlItemType.olMailItem); //this where the Exception occurs string outlookStdHTMLBody = mail.HTMLBody; I've done quite a bit of reading and know that my Outlook Instance (derived by using new Application) is considered untrusted and therefore the "omg" kicks in. I do have a workaround for development: I'm running VS2010 as Administrator and if I run Outlook as Administrator as well - all is good. I suppose this is due to them having the same integrity levels(high) and the UAC(?) is not complaining. But that just ain't the way to go for deployment. Now the question is: Is there a way to obtain a trusted instance of Outlook so that I can avoid this exception? I've already read that when developing an Office Add-In using VSTO one can obtain a trusted Instance from the OnComplete event and/or using "ThisAddin" But I "merely" want to start an outlook instance and preopulate it, and do not want to develop an Add-In since this is not the requirement. And to make it clear - I have no problem with pop ups informing the user that outlook is being accessed - I just want to get rid of the exception! So how can I get around this problem using code? The two languages I'm primarily interested in are PHP and Javascript, but I'd be interested in seeing how quickly this could be done in any other major language today as well (mostly C#, Java, etc). • PerformancePoint dashboard permissions problem in MOSS

  I have a PerformancePoint dashboard running in MOSS 2007 portal. The dashboard consists of one SSRS 2005 report, running in SharePoint Integrated mode. NT Authority\Authenticated Users have read permissions to the report library containing the SSRS report, the dashboard, and the report library containing the dashboard. Users that attempt to access the dashboard receive the following error message: The permissions granted to user 'DOMAIN\firstname.lastname' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied) Users that then click on the direct link to the report in MOSS will see the report with no problem. Subsequent visits to the dashboard show the report with no problem. The report is using a data source that is located one folder up from the report location. The report has been updated to point to the correct shared data source after deployment. Both the report and the data source have been published. The data source is using stored credentials, with a domain service account that has been set to Use as Windows credentials. This service account is serving other reports in other areas with no problem. Edit: Ok, I've gotten a lot more information on this problem. The request is never actually being made to the data source. The user comes in to the dashboard and requests a report for the first time using their kerberos token identifying themselves. The report looks in the Report Server database and finds that they are not listed in the users table and generates this rsAccessDenied error. Once they view the report directly their name is in this table and they never have the problem again. Unfortunately, removing the user from the Users table in the RS database doesn't actually cause this error to happen again. Everything I've read says that when you run a Report Server in MOSS integrated mode all your permissions are handled at the MOSS report library level, and all Auth users have permissions to the report library, as stated earlier. Any ideas?

  I am learning objective-C and for the life of me can't figure out why this is happening. When I change the code to: scanf(" %c %lf", &operator, &number); It all of a sudden doesn't print this last line. What is it about the space before %c that fixes this?

• How to permanently remove xcuserdata under the project.xcworkspace and resolve uncommitted changes

  I am struggling with a problem with a merge conflict (see Cannot Merge due to conflict with UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate). Based on feedback, I needed to remove the UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate using git rm. After considerable experimentation, I was able to remove the file with "git rm -rf project.xcworkspace/xcuserdata". So while I was on the branch I was working on, it almost immediately came back as a file that needed to be committed. So I did the git rm on the file again and just switched back to the master. Then I performed a git rm on the file again. The operation again removed the file. But I am still stuck. If I try to merge the branch into the master branch, it again says that I have uncommitted changes. So I go to commit the change. But this time, it shows UserInterfaceState.xcuserstate as the file to commit, but the box is unchecked and it can't be checked. So I can't move forward. Is there a way to use 'git rm' to permanently remove xcuserdata under the project.xcworkspace? Help!! Any ideas?
