I need to have a flash intro for my website (a requirement from my teacher). I created the intro and embedded it into my page. I takes up the entire screen in both Chrome and Chromium. In IE8, Firefox and Opera the size is incorrect. Web development tool that can comprehend the concept of more than one language in a file at once

I currently use notepad++ on windows or gedit on ubuntu. Both of them work great with code highlighting and hinting etc. But both of them suffer from a huge flaw. I am yet to find a code editor that can handle this concept: <?php // ooh, look I am doing some php ?><a onclick="alert('hay, some javascript in here now!')"> This link is HTML?!</a> <?PHP echo("NOW we have some php as well!"); ?> At the moment, I just have to settle for the one language. I want something that can think of a that text as a default as HTML, but notice when sections are PHP. I want those sections of PHP to have there own code hinting and highlighting. Even more, lets say in an 'if else' I exit PHP, write some HTML then back into PHP, I want it to work out how the braces ( '{' and '}' ) should match up and let me know if I have missed one. I want the sections of in-line JavaScript to be picked up as such. I want all of these languages to get checked for syntax! Damn it, I want to tool that understands more than one language at once!

Select return dynamic columns

I have two tables: Standards and Service Offerings. A Standard can have multiple Service Offerings. Each Standard can have a different number of Service Offerings associated to it. What I need to be able to do is write a view that will return some common data and then list the service offerings on one line. For example: Standard Id | Description | SO #1 | SO #2 | SO #3 | ... | SO #21 | SO Count 1 | One | A | B | C | ... | G | 21 2 | Two | A | | | ... | | 1 3 | Three | B | D | E | ... | | 3 I have no idea how to write this. The number of SO columns is set to a specific number (21 in this case), so we cannot exceed past that. Any ideas on how to approach this? A place I started is below. W3 xHTML Validation Errors on jQuery code!

I have some jQuery code that, without it in the document it passes validation fine, but with it in it causes errors. open current page in new window including query string

First of all, I am a total dud at all things related to web developement, so please bear with me here. I suspect this question is laughable for the web guys, but unfortunately I can't figure this out. Here goes: I have an application, that does some processing, writes some result files and then displays the results in an embedded IE browser control. This is done by navigating the browser control to a local html file together with a query string containing the generated result files to display it all. The link target would look something like: c:\SomeFolder\results.htm?results=file%201.xml;file%202.xml;file%203.xml So far, everything's fine. However, in the html page is a href that is suppossed to open up the exact same just in a normal browser window. What I thought would work is: <a href="#" target="_blank">Show in browser</a> Since it is a link in an html page displayed in an IE control, the link will open up in IE no matter what the default browser might be. This works for IE7 and 8, but not for IE6. With IE6 the query string gets cut off and the browser opens file://c:/results/results.htm# without the query string. I am sure there must be a much better way to do this without the # and which would work in all IEs. How would the pros solve this?

Problem with checkboxes, sql select statements & php

I am trying to display some rows from a database table based on choices submitted by the user. Two of my columns are called receipe name and ingredients(each field under ingredients can store a number of fruits). What I would like to do is, if a number of checkboxes are selected then the receipe name/s is displayed. This is driving me nuts! Although, when I run my php code it does not return a value. Saving a form using autocomplete instead of select field

When I try to save my form, I get this error: Client(#23852094658120) expected, got ActiveSupport::HashWithIndifferentAccess(#23852079773520) That's not surprising. It seems to me that it was expecting a select field, which it could translate into a Client object, but instead it just got a string. I know I can do Client.find( :first, :conditions => { :name => params[:name] } ) to find a Client with that name, but how do I tell my form that that's what's going on?

I have a set of drop-down control which I want to render with my custom tag library. But i don't want to hard code any variables in the tag lib. Any suggestions???

Let's consider 2 tables "schools" and "students". Now a student may belong to different schools in his life, and a school have many students. So this is a many to many example. A third table "links" specify the relation between student and school. Now to query this I do the following: Select sc.sid , -- stands for school id st.uid, -- stands for student id sc.sname, -- stands for school name st.uname, -- stands for student name -- select more data about the student joining other tables for that from students s left join links l on l.uid=st.uid -- l.uid stands for the student id on the links table left join schools sc on sc.sid=l.sid -- l.sid is the id of the school in the links table where st.uid=3 -- 3 is an example this query will return duplicate data for the user id if he has more than one school, so to fix this I added group by st.uid, yet I also need the list of school name related to the same user. Is there a way to do it with fixing the query I wrote instead of having 2 queries? So as example I want to have Luci of schools ( X, Y, Z, R, ...) etc

Converting Source ASCII Files to JPEGs

I publish technical books, in print, PDF, and Kindle/MOBI, with EPUB on the way. The Kindle does not support monospace fonts, which are kinda useful for source code listings. The only way to do monospace fonts is to convert the text (Java source, HTML, XML, etc.) into JPEG images. More specifically, due to pagination issues, a given input ASCII file needs to be split into slices of ~6 lines each, with each slice turned into a JPEG, so listings can span a screen. This is a royal pain. My current mechanism to do that involves: Running expand to set a consistent 2-space tab size, which pipes to... a2ps, which pipes to... A small Perl snippet to add a "%%LanguageLevel: 3\n" line, which pipes to... ImageMagick's convert, to take the (E)PS and make a JPEG out it, with an appropriate background, cropped to 575x148+5+28, etc. That used to work 100% of the time. It now works 95% of the time. The rest of the time, I get convert: geometry does not contain image errors, which I cannot seem to get rid of, in part because I don't understand what the problem is. Before this process, I used to use a pretty-print engine (source-highlight) to get HTML out of the source code...but then the only thing I could find to convert the HTML into JPEGs was to automate screen-grabs from an embedded Gecko engine. Reliability stank, which is why I switched to my current mechanism. So, if you were you, and you needed to turn source listings into JPEG images, in an automated fashion, how would you do it? Bonus points if it offers some sort of pretty-print process (e.g., bolded keywords)! Or, if you know what typically causes convert: geometry does not contain image, that might help. My current process is ugly, but if I could get it back to 100% reliability, that'd be just fine for now. Thanks in advance!

minifying final html output using regex with codeigniter

Google pages suggest you to minify html i.e. remove all the un-necessary spaces. Codeigniter does have feature of giziping output or it can be done via .htaccess. But still I also would like to remove un-necessary spaces from final html output as well. I played a bit with this peace of code to do it, and it seem to work. This does indeed result in html that is without excess spaces and removes other tab formatting. class Welcome extends CI_Controller { function _output() { echo preg_replace('!\s+!', ' ', $output); } function index(){ ... } } Now the problem with this is there may be tag like <pre>,<textarea>, etc.. which may have space in it and regx should remove them. So, how do I remove excess space from final html, without effecting spaces or formatting for these certain tags using regx? Thanks to @Alan Moore got the answer, this worked for me echo preg_replace('#(?ix)(?>[^\S ]\s*|\s{2,})(?=(?:(?:[^<]++|<(?!/?(?:textarea|pre)\b))*+)(?:<(?>textarea|pre)\b|\z))#', ' ', $output); @ridgerunner here did very good job of analyzing this regx, ended up using his solution. How to implement a log window in a web browser?

Hi all, I'm interested in adding an HTML/web-browser based "log window" to my net-enabled device. Specifically, my device has a customized web server and an event log, and I'd like to be able to leave a web browser window open to e.g. http://my.devices.ip.address/system_log and have events show up as text in the web browser window as they happen. People could then use this as a quick way to monitor what the system is doing, without needing run any special software. My question is, what is the best way to implement this? I've tried the obvious approach -- just have my device's embedded web server hold the HTTP/TCP connection open indefinitely, and write the necessary text to the TCP socket when an event occurs -- but the problem with that is that most web browsers (e.g. Safari) don't display the web page until the server has closed the TCP connection has been closed, and so the result is that the log data never appears in the web browser, it just acts as if the page is taking forever to load. Is there some trick to make this work? I could implement it as a Java applet, but I'd much prefer something more lightweight/simple, either using only HTML or possibly HTML+JavaScript. Also I'd like to avoid having the web browser 'poll' the server, since that would either introduce too much latency (if the reload delay was large) or put load on the system (if the delay was small)

How to change CSS style of nested list items?

I have a style for styling <a> elements in list items in a #navigation container. This is working fine. #navigation li a { text-decoration:none; background:#bfe5ff; color:#045e9f; width:125px; height:35px; padding-top:11px; display:block; float:left; margin-left:2px; text-align:center; font-size:18px; font-weight:bold; } Now in some <li>s I am inserting <div>s. In these I am again using a list again, but it should be different in style or have no style. When I put in <li>s, their style matches the outer <li> elements, but it should not. I am trying to use this: #newnavigation li a { font-size:12px; margin-left:20px; } but it's not working - it applies the "outer" styles. I am not clear why its not working the javascript code when I add it to the header section as follows. ASP.NET: Page HTML head rendering

I've been trying to figure out the best way to custom render the <head> element of a pag to get rid of the extra line breaks which is caused by <head runat="server">, so its properly formatted. Safari specific scroll bar issue in legacy code

I am trying to debug an issue that is occurring specifically in Safari. On a few pages of a web application, the content is larger than the frame and a scroll bar appears on the right but when the scroll bar moves up or down the content does not scroll with it. So you can "scroll" the scroll bar but the content itself was inaccessible even though the scroll bar was mobile. The issue only occurs in the "Multi-Process Windows" debug mode option but not in the "Single-Process Windows" option. The scroll bar works perfectly fine in Firefox, IE, and Chrome, just not in Safari. Because there's a lot of legacy code, I'm not quite sure exactly what the actual content is and which specific html elements are relevant. From what I can tell there's an Iframe element, html element, body element, div element, iframe element html element, body element and finally some divs. edit Does it matter if some of the elements within the <iframe> have the attribute scrolling="no"? I see this on a few of the elements within iframe but my coworker reassures me they don't matter.

Improve a regex statement in order to be as efficient as it can be

I have a PHP program that, at some point, needs to analyze a big amount of HTML+javascript text to parse info. All I want to parse needs to be in two parts. Seperate all "HTML goups" to parse Parse each HTML group to get the needed information. In the 1st parse it needs to find: <div id="myHome" And start capturing after that tag. Then stop capturing before <span id="nReaders" And capture the number that comes after this tag and stop. In the 2nd parse use the capture nº 1 (0 has the whole thing and 2 has the number) from the parse made before and then find . I already have code to do that and it works. Is there a way to improve this, make it easier for the machine to parse? preg_match_all('%<div id="myHome"[^>]>(.*?)<span id="nReaders[^>]>([0-9]+)<"%msi', $data, $results, PREG_SET_ORDER); foreach($results AS $result){ preg_match_all('%<div class="myplacement".*?[.]php[?]((?:next|before))=([0-9]+).*?<tbody.*?<td[^>]>.*?[0-9]+"%msi', $result[1], $mydata, PREG_SET_ORDER); //takes care of the data and finish the program Note: I need this for a freeware program so it must be as general as possible and, if possible, not use php extensions ADD: I ommitted some parts here because I didn't expect for answers like those. There is also a need to parse text inside one of the tags that is in the document. It may be the 6th 7th or 8th tag but I know it is after a certain tag. The parser I've checked (thx profitphp) does work to find the script tag. What now? There are more than 1 tag with the same class. I want them all. But I want only with also one of a list of classes..... Where can I find instructions and demos and limitations of DOM parsers (like the one in http://simplehtmldom.sourceforge.net/)? I need something that will work on, at least, a big amount of free servers.

Linq Select: Using a value from a list if available

I am going to use some basic stripped down examples to illustrate my problem. I have a class: class Item { int ID; bool Selected; } Now lets say I have two lists of the Item class: List<Item> ListA = GetListA(); List<Item> ListB = GetListB(); Now I want to create a third list that has all the items from ListB. The important thing is that if a match (same ID) if found in ListA then I want to use that Selected value, otherwise I want to keep the Selected value of the item that is in ListB. I am creating the third list as follows: List<Item> ListC = from item in ListB select new Item { ID = item.ID, Selected = item.Selected// <-- should use value form ListA if available }; Important: I don't want to seem ignorant, but I do not want to change the way ListC is created. By that I mean I want to use the "linq select" method, and I want to use a "one liner" that assigns the Selected value... I know there are other ways to create the list which will work just fine, but then I won't learn anything new. I have tried a couple of things so far... I know this will work, but I don't want to query ListA twice: Selected = ListA.Any(x => x.ID == item.ID) ? ListA.First(x => x.ID == item.ID).Selected : item.Selected and I also tried using DeafultIfEmpty but I don't think that is the right think for this situation... because it didn't work, and it seems it is more use if ListA was empty (which I don't care about)

Select rows from table1 and all the children from table2 into an object

I want to pull data from table "Province_Notifiers" and also fetch all corresponding items from table "Province_Notifier_Datas". The table "Province_Notifier" has a guid to identify it (PK), table "Province_Notifier_Datas" has a column called BelongsToProvinceID witch is a foreign key to the "Province_Notifier" tables guid. Prevent Word from Reformatting my HTML

I have an HTML page that needs to open in word. I created the document in word and saved the document as an HTML document. So word spits out all its nasty HTML syntax. This is the opened through internet explorer which will display the word document within the browser. When I view the page word modifies some of the tags. More specifically it adds a Width and Height tag and ignores the width and height within the style tag. If I try setting the Width and Height tags it overrides with new values. I have tested on different environments and get different results as word makes decision how to handle. A bit of background this img starts off as this, and is rendered via data rendering syntax. <asp:Image id="as" runat="server" Src"<%# ImgSource %>" style="width:178px;height:130px" /> It ends up like this in word <img width=32 height=32 id=barCodeImage src="http://myurl/BarcodeImages/1136574_129180418198008169.png" style='border-bottom-width:0px;border-left-width:0px;border-right-width:0px; border-top-width:0px;height:130px;width:178px'> I want to stop word from reformatting the HTML.

PHP: Opening/closing tags & performance?

Hi, This may be a silly question, but as someone relatively new to PHP, I'm wondering if there are any performance-related issues to frequently opening and closing PHP tags in HTML template code, and if so, what might be best practices in terms of working with php tags? My question is not about the importance/correctness of closing tags, or about which type of code is more readable than another, but rather about how the document gets parsed/executed and what impact it might have on performance. To illustrate, consider the following two extremes: Mixing PHP and HTML tags: <?php echo '<tr> <td>'.$variable1.'</td> <td>'.$variable2.'</td> <td>'.$variable3.'</td> <td>'.$variable4.'</td> <td>'.$variable5.'</td> </tr>' ?> // PHP tag opened once Separating PHP and HTML tags: <tr> <td><?php echo $variable1 ?></td> <td><?php echo $variable2 ?></td> <td><?php echo $variable3 ?></td> <td><?php echo $variable4 ?></td> <td><?php echo $variable5 ?></td> </tr> // PHP tag opened five times Would be interested in hearing some views on this, even if it's just to hear that it makes no difference.
