• adding a mail contact into AD

  Hi, I am looking for a bit of guidence on how to create mail contacts in AD. This is a follow on question from SO Q#1861336. What I am trying to do is add a load of contact objects into an OU in Active Directory. I've been using the examples on CodeProject, however they only show how to make new user etc. How do I create a contact using c#? Is it similar to creating a new user but with different LDAP type attributes? My plan is to then run the enable-mailcontact cmdlet powershell script to enable Exchange 2010 to see the contact in the GAL. As you can see by my questions I don't usually deal with c# or Active Directory so any help/pointers would be really useful before I start playing with this loaded gun. Thanks, Grant

• How can I create a menu in the start menu for my program?

  This may be an easy question but I am not even sure of the terminology to search, so I have to ask. I want my program to have a menu when it is hovered over if it is pinned to the start menu. I am attaching a screenshot where windows powershell illustrates this function, and presents a list of tasks. Other programs sometimes use this to list recently opened files, etc. I am sure this is standard enough that there is a tutorial on it somewhere, would someone mind pointing me to it, or explaining how to do this? I hope that it doesn't matter too much what language is used, but I am proficient in Delphi, C++, and C#.

• What steps are required to get DB2 working again after renaming the Windows XP system it was running on?

  I think this is a fairly well known problem, but I haven't found a really solid solution to add to my toolbox. Here's the sequence of steps that leads to the problem: Install Windows (e.g., XP), naming the system XXX Install DB2 and create some databases Rename the system from XXX to YYY (via the System control panel's Computer Name tab Reboot and find DB2 unable to start How can I get DB2 up and running again without having to reinstall it and without having to rename the system back to XXX? I did find a blog post that hints at some registry values to tweak, but I'm hoping the SF community can come up with a solution in which I can have more confidence.

• The time-to-reach-queue has elapsed

  I'm attempting to send a message to a remote private queue from an error queue with powershell. The code I use looks like this: $msg = $src_q.Peek() $msg.Label = GetLabelWithoutFailedQueue($msg) $msg.UseDeadLetterQueue = $true $msg.UseTracing = $true $msg.AcknowledgeType = [System.Messaging.AcknowledgeTypes]::NegativeReceive $msg.TimeToBeReceived = [System.TimeSpan]::FromSeconds(10) $msg.TimeToReachQueue = [System.TimeSpan]::FromSeconds(10) $tx = new-object System.Messaging.MessageQueueTransaction $tx.Begin() $dest_q.Send($msg, $tx) $tx.Commit() The message keeps on appearing on the transactional dead letter queue with the class: "The time-to-reach-queue has elapsed." Anyone's got any idea what could trigger such an error? The queue definitely exists- I do manage to peek it. Also, the reason I get the message from the error queue by peeking is just for testing purposes; I have tried doing the same thing with Receive and the result is the same.

• IIS version control with Mac clients

  We are in a unique situation here at work. Most of our websites are on an IIS server, but our developers are on Macs. We need some kind of way to do version control of our websites, but want to manage them locally on our Macs. Is there any way to do this, short of Powershell? Most of our websites are in PHP, so we don't want a solution that is geared toward ASP.NET. Also, I'm not clear if there is a way to use Subversion with IIS. Can someone help me out?

I can't seem to find a defenitive yes / no answers so I thought I'd ask the ServerFault community this simple question: Does XenServer (in any version) support Storage migration such as VMWare's Storage VMotion capability, or Hyper-V's storage migration ? I'm trying to do a comparative study of all platforms but I can't find a website (preff. Citrix supported or any other "legit" source) where it say's a defenitive yes or no. • JBoss view active user sessions

  We have a JBoss server with a single J2EE on it. I wish to find out who are the current active users using that application. Does JBoss give me any utilities that lets me view those existing sessions? (NOT the count, but who all are logged in) The question is kinda lame, but so is my JBoss knowledge :) I checked the JBoss community, but it only had a couple of relative unanswered questions there. The information i'm looking for would help me in maintenance cycles. I do not wish to reboot the system when users are still using it. We also need to keep a track of any illegal activities on our server. Hence the requirement. Would appreciate any pointers :) Regards, Abhi

• Server seems up, but accepts no connections whatsoever

  Hi, I have a problem with a Debian based Server, unfortunately housed in a remote location. Two days ago, it was suddenly down and completely unreachable. After having someone reboot it, it worked for about a day, then seemed to be down again. This time, however, it was different: -The server reacts to pings -It is scannable, and all the relevant ports are open But: -Open shells were immediately blocked, and no warning had been shown -It's not possible to open any connection - the TCP/IP handshake seems to have some problems: SSH handshake As this is a private server of a small community, we don't have the resources to pay a technician to fix the problem for us, so any hints how to fix the problem after the next reboot would be highly appreciated... • Mac OS X Server DNS Questions

  Just for a new mac server in the office, initially it was for my personal use as a web development box but now the boss wants me to set it up with all the bells and whistles it comes with. I'm having some issues with the following... Lets just say my business is example.com I want the server's actual address to be labs.example.com and accessible to the world. What do I need to set up at my domain registrar to let the domain know where to go, and what do I need to set up with my hosting company to make this work, and finally what do I need to set up in the server admin panel to get it to work. It seems that DNS not working is first hurdle I need to jump but the documentation around the internet is pretty terrible. Thank you community.

• SQL SERVER – Activity Monitor and Performance Issue

  We had wonderful SQLAuthority News – Community Tech Days – December 11, 2010 event yesterday. After the event, we had meeting among Jacob Sebastian, Vinod Kumar, Rushabh Mehta and myself. We all were sharing our experience about performance tuning consultations. During the conversation, Jacob has shared wonderful story of his recent observation. The story is very small but the moral of the story is very important. The story is about a client, who had continuously performance issues. Client used Activity Monitor (Read More: SQL SERVER – 2008 – Location of Activity Monitor – Where is SQL Serve Activity Monitor Located) to check the performance issues. The pattern of the performance issues was very much common all the time. Every time, after a while the computer stopped responding. After doing in-depth performance analysis, Jacob realized that client once opened activity monitor never closed it. The same activity monitor itself is very expensive process. The tool, which helped to debug the performance issues, also helped (negatively) to bring down the server. After closing the activity monitor which was open for long time, the server did not have performance issues. Moral of the story: Activity Monitor is great tool but use it with care and close it when not needed.   Earlier this week, I was delivering Advanced BI training on the subject of “SQL Server 2008 R2″. I had great time delivering the session. During the session, we talked about SQL Server 2010 Denali. Suddenly one of the attendees suggested his displeasure for the product. He said, even though, SQL Server is now in moving very fast and have proved many times a good enterprise solution, it does not have some basic functions. I naturally asked him for example and he suggested CONCAT() which exists in MySQL and Oracle. The answer is very simple – the equalent function in SQL Server to CONCAT() is ‘+’ (plus operator without quotes). Method 1: Concatenating two strings SELECT 'FirstName' + ' ' + 'LastName' AS FullName Method 2: Concatenating two Numbers SELECT CAST(1 AS VARCHAR(10)) + 'R' + CAST(2 AS VARCHAR(10)) Method 3: Concatenating values from table columns SELECT FirstName + ' ' + LastName FROM AdventureWorks.Person.Contact Well, this may look very simple but sometime it is very difficult to find the information for simple things only.   Microsoft launched the developer preview version of Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) at MIX 10 web conference yesterday.This release is aimed getting the feedback from website designers , developers and other community to make IE9 development better from its previous versions. Microsoft will update the developer preview every eight weeks and the next update is expected on mid of march.So what is new and interesting  about IE9 Chakra Chakra (The new scripting engine of IE9) renders the Java script much faster compared to IE8 and other browsers thus improving the performance significantly.According to Microsoft Chakra renders the java script in background with a separate thread parallel to the main engine which is complete new way of rendering from the current browser technologies Standards Microsoft is desperate to make ( surprisingly!!!) IE9 compliance to  web standards by supporting the open standards such as Accelerated support for HTML5 video support for new web technologies such as CSS3 and SVG2.
