  Say I have a C++ function debugPrint(int foo). How can I most conveniently strip that from release builds? I do not want to surround every call to debugPrint with #ifdefs as it would be really time consuming. On the other hand, I want to be 100% sure that the compiler strips all the calls to that function, and the function itself from release builds. The stripping should happen also, if it's called with a parameter that results from a function call. E.g., debugPrint(getFoo());. In that case I want also the getFoo() call to be stripped. I understand that function inlining could be an option, but inlining is not guaranteed to be supported.

  I need to execute this script from my Python script. Is it possible? The script generate some outputs with some files being written. How do I access these files?   Most applications rarely need to display 100% accurate data. For example if this stack overflow question displays that there have been 0 views, when there have really been 10, it doesn't really matter. This is one way that the (perceived) performance of applications can be improved, by caching results and therefore sometimes not showing 100% accurate results. There are some cases where the data does need to be 100% accurate though. So if I run the query select * from Foo I want to be sure that the results are not stale. Now depending on how my database is set up, other activity on the database, use of transactions and isolation levels etc this query may or may not be a true reflection of the world. What scenario's and settings can people think of that will result in this query returning stale results or given that another connection is part way through a transaction that has updated this table, how can I guarantee that when the above query returns, the results will be accurate.

  Put simply I have an ajax call that sometimes completes before the page is loaded, so I tried wrapping the callback in $( fn ), but the callback doesn't fire if the page is loaded... Anyone have a good solution to this? $.get( '/foo.json', function( data ){ $( function(){ // won't get here if page ready beats the ajax call // process data $( '.someDiv' ).append( someData ); } ); } ); And yes, I know that if I flipped the order of those it would always work, but then my ajax calls would be needlessly deferred until the document is ready.

  I'm writing a code for a voting machine that will allow user to read in custom XML ballots and then vote on them, however in the current build I have in QtCreator, I don't see an easy way to edit buttons in my GUI directly. In the code snippet below, I assign an element to pull out the names and type of ballot being read in, but I need to append a label on the GUI as well as change buttons to the names of candidates read in.   I have the following model classes... class Image < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :description, :title has_many :imageTags has_many :tags, :through => :imageTags end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name has_many :imageTags has_many :images, :through => :imageTags end class ImageTag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :position belongs_to :image belongs_to :tag end And when I use find for getting the Tag with the id 1 t = Tag.find(1); @images = t.images; But when I do the same with where, I get a NoMethodError, with the description undefined method 'images': t = Tag.where(:name => "foo"); @images = t.images; I also tried adding .includes(:images) before the .where statement, but that doesn't work too. So, how can I get all Images that belong to a Tag?

  Hello, I am trying to set up a navigation system that uses GET parameters with no value, example: http://foo.bar/?mainPage takes the visitor to the main page. So I am using if statements and I am wondering if there is a way I can do this without a bunch of if statements? I don't think switch statements would work for this. This is currently what I have: $mainPage = $_GET['mainPage']; $contact = $_GET['contact']; if(isset($mainPage)) { // go to main page } if(isset($contact)) { // go to contact page } I don't want to have to end up writing a ton of if statements, though.   Consider the following little piece of code: // all of these include other headers, lots of code: #include "myheader1.h" #include "myheader2.h" #include <string> void foo() { string s("hello world"); // oh no, why does this compile?? } This compiles, so obviously some of the recursively included header files has a using namespace std; somewhere. How would you go about finding out where that offending line of code is? Just using grep on all header files won't really work because that statement is often used inside a function, where it is safe and won't pollute the rest of the code.

  I need some code to monitor the start and exit of processes. For example, assume I have a config file with 3 processe names, lets say, foo.exe, bar.exe and abc.exe. How I imagine this be done would be to create 3 threads and somehow listen to each process individually with a timer in each thread, and then do something afterwards. However, I would need to dynamically create threads and timers, as the config file is meant to be modifiable. I can work with VB.NET or C# Code. Thanks.
