• Installed SQL Server 2008 and now TFS is broken.

  Hi, My W2K3 server was running TFS 2008 SP1, SQL Server 2005 Development edition. I installed SQL Server 2008 Standard. I installed it while leaving SQL Server 2005 alone. Upgrading was not possible due to the differences in editions of the SQL Servers. Now TFS is broken. On a client computer, if I go Team - Connect to Team Foundation Server, I get this error: Team Foundation services are not available from server myserver. Technical information (for administrator): TF30059: Fatal error while initializing web service. So I head on over to my event viewer on the server. Under Application, I see one warning and two errors.   I'm trying to get my FEDORA12 to have an STATIC IP - inside virtualbox - inside Ubuntu Let me rephrase that. I have an Ubuntu 9.04 system with vitualbox and a FEDORA12 vm there and I would like to put the fedora with an STATIC IP (amahi needs it), but I'm getting stuck... I'm using NAT (if that's any help) I tryid a few tutorials, but no go. I have an Ubuntu 9.04 system with vitualbox and a FEDORA12 vm there and I would like to put the fedora with an STATIC IP (amahi needs it), but I'm getting stuck... I'm using NAT (if that's any help) I tryid a few tutorials, but no go. • syspolicy_purge_history generates failed logins

  I have a development server with 3 instances: Default, A and B. It is a physical server, non clustered. Whenever the syspolicy_purge_history job runs at 2 am, I get failed login alerts. Looking at the job steps, all are successfully completed. It appears that some point during the step "Erase Phantom System Health Records" is when the failed logins occur. syspolicy_purge_history on instance B works OK. syspolicy_purge_history on the Default instance seems to want to connect to instance B, resulting in: Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-B'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . No errors are reported by Powershell. syspolicy_purge_history on the A instance seems to want to connect to the Default instance resulting in Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-Default'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . Then it tries to connect to the B instance, resulting in Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11. Login failed for user 'Machinename\sqlsvc-B'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>] . No errors are reported by Powershell. I tried the steps posted here hoping they would fix it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955726 But again, this is not a virtual server nor is it in a cluster. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

I have found multiple suggestions on various websites where to download it from, but all of them lead to the same section of the IBM website which actually only has the Lotus Notes client, despite the page title. • PowerShell: New-PSDrive error handling

  Hello, I have a script where I mount with the command "New-PSDrive" a network drive. Now, since the script is running as a "cronjob" on a server I want to have some error detection. If for any reason the command New-PSDrive fails the script should stop executing and notify that something went wrong. I have the following code: Try { New-PSDrive -Name A -PSProvider FileSystem -Root \\server\share } Catch { ... handle error case ... } ... other code ... For testing reasons I specified a wrong server name and I get the following error "New-PSDrive : Drive root "\wrongserver\share" does not exist or it's not a folder". Which is OK since the server does not exists. But the script does not go into the Catch clause and stop. It happily continues to run and ends up in a mess since no drive is mounted :-) So my question, why? Is there any difference in Exception handling in PowerShell? I should also note that I'm a noob in PowerShell scripting. Bye, Martin

Secondary DB: 'UK_Backup', File: 'F:\UK_20100324090000.trn' 2010-04-01 10:00:01.93 Error: Could not find a log backup file that could be applied to secondary database 'UK_Backup'.(Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.LogShipping) 2010-04-01 10:00:01.93 Deleting old log backup files. Primary Database: 'UK' 2010-04-01 10:00:01.96 The restore operation completed with errors. Secondary ID: 'c066bb63-930c-4b73-861c-f59f0a38c12c' It was happily humming along until I checked it this morning. Some additional details. In the Logshipping folder, there is one file UK_20100324090001.trn dated on the 2009-3-24. The next most recent .trn file is the UK_20100374090001.trn which is the file that was applied during the restore. Why is there an older trn file seemingly on it's own? How can I fix this problem? It'll be a real pain to restart the entire logshipping process. x_x

  I was wondering if there was a unix daemon available that would be capable of something like this: admin adds an IP entry to a DB; daemon finds change after wait interval and manipulates ifconfig/config files I was thinking maybe there is a plugin for cfengine that might be able to do this, but I couldn't find any. I mean this would be a fairly easy thing to script up in perl, but why re-invent the wheel if theres already something out there that is better than what my limited programming abilities can make. Lastly, if it worked on FreeBSD that'd be great.

  I have a database in dev (SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2008) that I need to move to prod (SQL Server 2000 on Windows Server 2003). My process is as follows: Login to dev, open SQL Server Management Studio Right click on the database | Tasks | Backup. Keep all default options (full backup etc.) Move .bak file locally to prod (no network drive), login to prod, open SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Right click Databases node | All Tasks | Restore database. Change Restore as database to reflect the same database name. Click radio button 'From device'. Click 'Select Devices' Click Restore from: Add..., browse to .bak file (small - only 6mb) Now I am ready to restore the database, so I click OK and get the following error: "The media family on device 'E:...bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally." This error is immediate. I have tried a few different variations of this - restoring the db to dev machine with a different db name and log file names (where it originated), creating an empty database with the same physical path to files before and trying to restore to that, making a few different .bak files and making sure they are verified before uploading them to prod. I know for a fact the directory for the .mdf and .ldf files exist on prod, though the files themselves don't exist. If, before I click OK to restore, go to the options tab instead I get the following error: Error 3241: The media family on device 'E:...bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally. Anyone have any bright ideas?

• OpenVZ multiple networks on CTs

  I have Hardware Node (HN) which has 2 physical interfaces (eth0, eth1). I'm playing with OpenVZ and want to let my containers (CTs) have access to both of those interfaces. I'm using basic configuration - venet. CTs are fine to access eth0 (public interface). But I can't get CTs to get access to eth1 (private network). I tried: # on HN vzctl set 101 --ipadd 192.168.1.101 --save vzctl enter 101 ping 192.168.1.2 # no response here ifconfig # on CT returns lo (127.0.0.1), venet0 (127.0.0.1), venet0:0 (95.168.xxx.xxx), venet0:1 (192.168.1.101) I believe that the main problem is that all packets flows through eth0 on HN (figured out using tcpdump). So the problem might be in routes on HN. Or is my logic here all wrong? I just need access to both interfaces (networks) on HN from CTs. Nothing complicated.

  We have exchange 2007 and we bought a new domain name and we're still keeping the old one so that we can wean everyone off of the old emails. Now, I'm wondering how to go about this. I need to add the new domain as accepted and authoritative by the exchange server. Emails on the new domain need to get routed to the inbox and ditto the old emails, however, I want to be able to change the reply-to in the header to the new email address automatically. I also want to set the new email addresses as the defaults. Ideally, I'd like to be able to add a message at the bottom of every externally outgoing email saying that the new email is [email protected]. But this is a nice to have, certainly not a must have. I've added the new domain as authoritative, and managed to change the primary smtp email addresses to the new one, but sent emails are not being routed to them and neither are the old email addresses! Now how the heck would I go about fixing all of that? I'm completely stumped! TIA
