  • Developing web apps using ASP.NET MVC 3, Razor and EF Code First - Part 2

    - by shiju
    In my previous post Developing web apps using ASP.NET MVC 3, Razor and EF Code First - Part 1, we have discussed on how to work with ASP.NET MVC 3 and EF Code First for developing web apps. We have created generic repository and unit of work with EF Code First for our ASP.NET MVC 3 application and did basic CRUD operations against a simple domain entity. In this post, I will demonstrate on working with domain entity with deep object graph, Service Layer and View Models and will also complete the rest of the demo application. In the previous post, we have done CRUD operations against Category entity and this post will be focus on Expense entity those have an association with Category entity. You can download the source code from http://efmvc.codeplex.com . The following frameworks will be used for this step by step tutorial.    1. ASP.NET MVC 3 RTM    2. EF Code First CTP 5    3. Unity 2.0 Domain Model Category Entity public class Category   {       public int CategoryId { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Name Required")]       [StringLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Must be less than 25 characters")]       public string Name { get; set;}       public string Description { get; set; }       public virtual ICollection<Expense> Expenses { get; set; }   } Expense Entity public class Expense     {                public int ExpenseId { get; set; }                public string  Transaction { get; set; }         public DateTime Date { get; set; }         public double Amount { get; set; }         public int CategoryId { get; set; }         public virtual Category Category { get; set; }     } We have two domain entities - Category and Expense. A single category contains a list of expense transactions and every expense transaction should have a Category. Repository class for Expense Transaction Let’s create repository class for handling CRUD operations for Expense entity public class ExpenseRepository : RepositoryBase<Expense>, IExpenseRepository     {     public ExpenseRepository(IDatabaseFactory databaseFactory)         : base(databaseFactory)         {         }                } public interface IExpenseRepository : IRepository<Expense> { } Service Layer If you are new to Service Layer, checkout Martin Fowler's article Service Layer . According to Martin Fowler, Service Layer defines an application's boundary and its set of available operations from the perspective of interfacing client layers. It encapsulates the application's business logic, controlling transactions and coordinating responses in the implementation of its operations. Controller classes should be lightweight and do not put much of business logic onto it. We can use the service layer as the business logic layer and can encapsulate the rules of the application. Let’s create a Service class for coordinates the transaction for Expense public interface IExpenseService {     IEnumerable<Expense> GetExpenses(DateTime startDate, DateTime ednDate);     Expense GetExpense(int id);             void CreateExpense(Expense expense);     void DeleteExpense(int id);     void SaveExpense(); } public class ExpenseService : IExpenseService {     private readonly IExpenseRepository expenseRepository;            private readonly IUnitOfWork unitOfWork;     public ExpenseService(IExpenseRepository expenseRepository, IUnitOfWork unitOfWork)     {                  this.expenseRepository = expenseRepository;         this.unitOfWork = unitOfWork;     }     public IEnumerable<Expense> GetExpenses(DateTime startDate, DateTime endDate)     {         var expenses = expenseRepository.GetMany(exp => exp.Date >= startDate && exp.Date <= endDate);         return expenses;     }     public void CreateExpense(Expense expense)     {         expenseRepository.Add(expense);         unitOfWork.Commit();     }     public Expense GetExpense(int id)     {         var expense = expenseRepository.GetById(id);         return expense;     }     public void DeleteExpense(int id)     {         var expense = expenseRepository.GetById(id);         expenseRepository.Delete(expense);         unitOfWork.Commit();     }     public void SaveExpense()     {         unitOfWork.Commit();     } }   View Model for Expense Transactions In real world ASP.NET MVC applications, we need to design model objects especially for our views. Our domain objects are mainly designed for the needs for domain model and it is representing the domain of our applications. On the other hand, View Model objects are designed for our needs for views. We have an Expense domain entity that has an association with Category. While we are creating a new Expense, we have to specify that in which Category belongs with the new Expense transaction. The user interface for Expense transaction will have form fields for representing the Expense entity and a CategoryId for representing the Category. So let's create view model for representing the need for Expense transactions. public class ExpenseViewModel {     public int ExpenseId { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Category Required")]     public int CategoryId { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Transaction Required")]     public string Transaction { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Date Required")]     public DateTime Date { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Amount Required")]     public double Amount { get; set; }       public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> Category { get; set; } } The ExpenseViewModel is designed for the purpose of View template and contains the all validation rules. It has properties for mapping values to Expense entity and a property Category for binding values to a drop-down for list values of Category. Create Expense transaction Let’s create action methods in the ExpenseController for creating expense transactions public ActionResult Create() {     var expenseModel = new ExpenseViewModel();     var categories = categoryService.GetCategories();     expenseModel.Category = categories.ToSelectListItems(-1);     expenseModel.Date = DateTime.Today;     return View(expenseModel); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult Create(ExpenseViewModel expenseViewModel) {                      if (!ModelState.IsValid)         {             var categories = categoryService.GetCategories();             expenseViewModel.Category = categories.ToSelectListItems(expenseViewModel.CategoryId);             return View("Save", expenseViewModel);         }         Expense expense=new Expense();         ModelCopier.CopyModel(expenseViewModel,expense);         expenseService.CreateExpense(expense);         return RedirectToAction("Index");              } In the Create action method for HttpGet request, we have created an instance of our View Model ExpenseViewModel with Category information for the drop-down list and passing the Model object to View template. The extension method ToSelectListItems is shown below   public static IEnumerable<SelectListItem> ToSelectListItems(         this IEnumerable<Category> categories, int  selectedId) {     return           categories.OrderBy(category => category.Name)                 .Select(category =>                     new SelectListItem                     {                         Selected = (category.CategoryId == selectedId),                         Text = category.Name,                         Value = category.CategoryId.ToString()                     }); } In the Create action method for HttpPost, our view model object ExpenseViewModel will map with posted form input values. We need to create an instance of Expense for the persistence purpose. So we need to copy values from ExpenseViewModel object to Expense object. ASP.NET MVC futures assembly provides a static class ModelCopier that can use for copying values between Model objects. ModelCopier class has two static methods - CopyCollection and CopyModel.CopyCollection method will copy values between two collection objects and CopyModel will copy values between two model objects. We have used CopyModel method of ModelCopier class for copying values from expenseViewModel object to expense object. Finally we did a call to CreateExpense method of ExpenseService class for persisting new expense transaction. List Expense Transactions We want to list expense transactions based on a date range. So let’s create action method for filtering expense transactions with a specified date range. public ActionResult Index(DateTime? startDate, DateTime? endDate) {     //If date is not passed, take current month's first and last dte     DateTime dtNow;     dtNow = DateTime.Today;     if (!startDate.HasValue)     {         startDate = new DateTime(dtNow.Year, dtNow.Month, 1);         endDate = startDate.Value.AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1);     }     //take last date of start date's month, if end date is not passed     if (startDate.HasValue && !endDate.HasValue)     {         endDate = (new DateTime(startDate.Value.Year, startDate.Value.Month, 1)).AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1);     }     var expenses = expenseService.GetExpenses(startDate.Value ,endDate.Value);     //if request is Ajax will return partial view     if (Request.IsAjaxRequest())     {         return PartialView("ExpenseList", expenses);     }     //set start date and end date to ViewBag dictionary     ViewBag.StartDate = startDate.Value.ToShortDateString();     ViewBag.EndDate = endDate.Value.ToShortDateString();     //if request is not ajax     return View(expenses); } We are using the above Index Action method for both Ajax requests and normal requests. If there is a request for Ajax, we will call the PartialView ExpenseList. Razor Views for listing Expense information Let’s create view templates in Razor for showing list of Expense information ExpenseList.cshtml @model IEnumerable<MyFinance.Domain.Expense>   <table>         <tr>             <th>Actions</th>             <th>Category</th>             <th>                 Transaction             </th>             <th>                 Date             </th>             <th>                 Amount             </th>         </tr>       @foreach (var item in Model) {              <tr>             <td>                 @Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Edit",new { id = item.ExpenseId })                 @Ajax.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id = item.ExpenseId }, new AjaxOptions { Confirm = "Delete Expense?", HttpMethod = "Post", UpdateTargetId = "divExpenseList" })             </td>              <td>                 @item.Category.Name             </td>             <td>                 @item.Transaction             </td>             <td>                 @String.Format("{0:d}", item.Date)             </td>             <td>                 @String.Format("{0:F}", item.Amount)             </td>         </tr>          }       </table>     <p>         @Html.ActionLink("Create New Expense", "Create") |         @Html.ActionLink("Create New Category", "Create","Category")     </p> Index.cshtml @using MyFinance.Helpers; @model IEnumerable<MyFinance.Domain.Expense> @{     ViewBag.Title = "Index"; }    <h2>Expense List</h2>    <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-ui.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.ui.datepicker.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="@Url.Content("~/Content/jquery-ui-1.8.6.custom.css")" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />      @using (Ajax.BeginForm(new AjaxOptions{ UpdateTargetId="divExpenseList", HttpMethod="Get"})) {     <table>         <tr>         <td>         <div>           Start Date: @Html.TextBox("StartDate", Html.Encode(String.Format("{0:mm/dd/yyyy}", ViewData["StartDate"].ToString())), new { @class = "ui-datepicker" })         </div>         </td>         <td><div>            End Date: @Html.TextBox("EndDate", Html.Encode(String.Format("{0:mm/dd/yyyy}", ViewData["EndDate"].ToString())), new { @class = "ui-datepicker" })          </div></td>          <td> <input type="submit" value="Search By TransactionDate" /></td>         </tr>     </table>         }   <div id="divExpenseList">             @Html.Partial("ExpenseList", Model)     </div> <script type="text/javascript">     $().ready(function () {         $('.ui-datepicker').datepicker({             dateFormat: 'mm/dd/yy',             buttonImage: '@Url.Content("~/Content/calendar.gif")',             buttonImageOnly: true,             showOn: "button"         });     }); </script> Ajax search functionality using Ajax.BeginForm The search functionality of Index view is providing Ajax functionality using Ajax.BeginForm. The Ajax.BeginForm() method writes an opening <form> tag to the response. You can use this method in a using block. In that case, the method renders the closing </form> tag at the end of the using block and the form is submitted asynchronously by using JavaScript. The search functionality will call the Index Action method and this will return partial view ExpenseList for updating the search result. We want to update the response UI for the Ajax request onto divExpenseList element. So we have specified the UpdateTargetId as "divExpenseList" in the Ajax.BeginForm method. Add jQuery DatePicker Our search functionality is using a date range so we are providing two date pickers using jQuery datepicker. You need to add reference to the following JavaScript files to working with jQuery datepicker. jquery-ui.js jquery.ui.datepicker.js For theme support for datepicker, we can use a customized CSS class. In our example we have used a CSS file “jquery-ui-1.8.6.custom.css”. For more details about the datepicker component, visit jquery UI website at http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker . In the jQuery ready event, we have used following JavaScript function to initialize the UI element to show date picker. <script type="text/javascript">     $().ready(function () {         $('.ui-datepicker').datepicker({             dateFormat: 'mm/dd/yy',             buttonImage: '@Url.Content("~/Content/calendar.gif")',             buttonImageOnly: true,             showOn: "button"         });     }); </script>   Source Code You can download the source code from http://efmvc.codeplex.com/ . Summary In this two-part series, we have created a simple web application using ASP.NET MVC 3 RTM, Razor and EF Code First CTP 5. I have demonstrated patterns and practices  such as Dependency Injection, Repository pattern, Unit of Work, ViewModel and Service Layer. My primary objective was to demonstrate different practices and options for developing web apps using ASP.NET MVC 3 and EF Code First. In previous post, I have discussed on how to work with ASP.NET MVC 3 and EF Code First for developing web apps. In this post, I will demonstrate on working with domain entity with deep object graph, Service Layer and View Models and will also complete the rest of the demo application. In the previous post, we have done CRUD operations against Category entity and this post will be focus on Expense entity those have an association with Category entity. Domain Model Category Entity public class Category   {       public int CategoryId { get; set; }       [Required(ErrorMessage = "Name Required")]       [StringLength(25, ErrorMessage = "Must be less than 25 characters")]       public string Name { get; set;}       public string Description { get; set; }       public virtual ICollection<Expense> Expenses { get; set; }   } Expense Entity public class Expense     {                public int ExpenseId { get; set; }                public string  Transaction { get; set; }         public DateTime Date { get; set; }         public double Amount { get; set; }         public int CategoryId { get; set; }         public virtual Category Category { get; set; }     } We have two domain entities - Category and Expense. The extension method ToSelectListItems is shown below public static IEnumerable<SelectListItem> ToSelectListItems(         this IEnumerable<Category> categories, int  selectedId) {     return           categories.OrderBy(category => category.Name)                 .Select(category =>                     new SelectListItem                     {                         Selected = (category.CategoryId == selectedId),                         Text = category.Name,                         Value = category.CategoryId.ToString()                     }); } In the Create action method for HttpPost, our view model object ExpenseViewModel will map with posted form input values. We have used CopyModel method of ModelCopier class for copying values from expenseViewModel object to expense object. Finally we did a call to CreateExpense method of ExpenseService class for persisting new expense transaction. List Expense Transactions We want to list expense transactions based on a date range. So let’s create action method for filtering expense transactions with a specified date range. public ActionResult Index(DateTime? startDate, DateTime? endDate) {     //If date is not passed, take current month's first and last dte     DateTime dtNow;     dtNow = DateTime.Today;     if (!startDate.HasValue)     {         startDate = new DateTime(dtNow.Year, dtNow.Month, 1);         endDate = startDate.Value.AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1);     }     //take last date of start date's month, if end date is not passed     if (startDate.HasValue && !endDate.HasValue)     {         endDate = (new DateTime(startDate.Value.Year, startDate.Value.Month, 1)).AddMonths(1).AddDays(-1);     }     var expenses = expenseService.GetExpenses(startDate.Value ,endDate.Value);     //if request is Ajax will return partial view     if (Request.IsAjaxRequest())     {         return PartialView("ExpenseList", expenses);     }     //set start date and end date to ViewBag dictionary     ViewBag.StartDate = startDate.Value.ToShortDateString();     ViewBag.EndDate = endDate.Value.ToShortDateString();     //if request is not ajax     return View(expenses); } We are using the above Index Action method for both Ajax requests and normal requests. If there is a request for Ajax, we will call the PartialView ExpenseList. Razor Views for listing Expense information Let’s create view templates in Razor for showing list of Expense information ExpenseList.cshtml @model IEnumerable<MyFinance.Domain.Expense>   <table>         <tr>             <th>Actions</th>             <th>Category</th>             <th>                 Transaction             </th>             <th>                 Date             </th>             <th>                 Amount             </th>         </tr>       @foreach (var item in Model) {              <tr>             <td>                 @Html.ActionLink("Edit", "Edit",new { id = item.ExpenseId })                 @Ajax.ActionLink("Delete", "Delete", new { id = item.ExpenseId }, new AjaxOptions { Confirm = "Delete Expense?", HttpMethod = "Post", UpdateTargetId = "divExpenseList" })             </td>              <td>                 @item.Category.Name             </td>             <td>                 @item.Transaction             </td>             <td>                 @String.Format("{0:d}", item.Date)             </td>             <td>                 @String.Format("{0:F}", item.Amount)             </td>         </tr>          }       </table>     <p>         @Html.ActionLink("Create New Expense", "Create") |         @Html.ActionLink("Create New Category", "Create","Category")     </p> Index.cshtml @using MyFinance.Helpers; @model IEnumerable<MyFinance.Domain.Expense> @{     ViewBag.Title = "Index"; }    <h2>Expense List</h2>    <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.unobtrusive-ajax.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery-ui.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.ui.datepicker.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <link href="@Url.Content("~/Content/jquery-ui-1.8.6.custom.css")" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />      @using (Ajax.BeginForm(new AjaxOptions{ UpdateTargetId="divExpenseList", HttpMethod="Get"})) {     <table>         <tr>         <td>         <div>           Start Date: @Html.TextBox("StartDate", Html.Encode(String.Format("{0:mm/dd/yyyy}", ViewData["StartDate"].ToString())), new { @class = "ui-datepicker" })         </div>         </td>         <td><div>            End Date: @Html.TextBox("EndDate", Html.Encode(String.Format("{0:mm/dd/yyyy}", ViewData["EndDate"].ToString())), new { @class = "ui-datepicker" })          </div></td>          <td> <input type="submit" value="Search By TransactionDate" /></td>         </tr>     </table>         }   <div id="divExpenseList">             @Html.Partial("ExpenseList", Model)     </div> <script type="text/javascript">     $().ready(function () {         $('.ui-datepicker').datepicker({             dateFormat: 'mm/dd/yy',             buttonImage: '@Url.Content("~/Content/calendar.gif")',             buttonImageOnly: true,             showOn: "button"         });     }); </script> Ajax search functionality using Ajax.BeginForm The search functionality of Index view is providing Ajax functionality using Ajax.BeginForm. • How to call SQL Function with multiple parameters from C# web page

    - by Marshall
    I have an MS SQL function that is called with the following syntax: SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) AS RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable('WHERE ClientID = 7 AND LocationName = ''Default'' ', 10) The first parameter passes a specific WHERE clause that is used by the function for one of the internal queries. When I call this function in the front-end C# page, I need to send parameter values for the individual fields inside of the WHERE clause (in this example, both the ClientID & LocationName fields) The current C# code looks like this: String SQLText = "SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) AS RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable('WHERE ClientID = @ClientID AND LocationName = @LocationName ',10)"; SqlCommand Cmd = new SqlCommand(SQLText, SqlConnection); Cmd.Parameters.Add("@ClientID", SqlDbType.Int).Value = 7; // Insert real ClientID Cmd.Parameters.Add("@LocationName", SqlDbType.NVarChar(20)).Value = "Default"; // Real code uses Location Name from user input SqlDataReader reader = Cmd.ExecuteReader(); When I do this, I get the following code from SQL profiler: exec sp_executesql N'SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) as RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable (''WHERE ClientID = @ClientID AND LocationName = @LocationName '',10)', N'@ClientID int,@LocationID nvarchar(20)', @ClientID=7,@LocationName=N'Default' When this executes, SQL throws an error that it cannot parse past the first mention of @ClientID stating that the Scalar Variable @ClientID must be defined. If I modify the code to declare the variables first (see below), then I receive an error at the second mention of @ClientID that the variable already exists. exec sp_executesql N'DECLARE @ClientID int; DECLARE @LocationName nvarchar(20); SELECT Field1, COUNT(*) as RecordCount FROM GetDecileTable (''WHERE ClientID = @ClientID AND LocationName = @LocationName '',10)', N'@ClientID int,@LocationName nvarchar(20)', @ClientID=7,@LocationName=N'Default' I know that this method of adding parameters and calling SQL code from C# works well when I am selecting data from tables, but I am not sure how to embed parameters inside of the ' quote marks for the embedded WHERE clause being passed to the function. Any ideas?

  • Crystal report error message

    - by Selom

  • weird result with c# winForms array of Lists

    - by jello
    so I'm trying to store values in an array of Lists in C# winForms. In the for loop in which I make the sql statment, everything works fine: the message box outputs a different medication name each time. for (int i = 0; i < numberOfMeds; i++) { queryStr = "select * from biological where medication_name = '" + med_names[i] + "' and patient_id = " + patientID.patient_id; using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) using (var cmd = new SqlCommand(queryStr, conn)) { conn.Open(); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (rdr.Read()) { medObject.medication_date = (DateTime)rdr["patient_history_date_bio"]; medObject.medication_name = rdr["medication_name"].ToString(); medObject.medication_dose = Convert.ToInt32(rdr["medication_dose"]); medsList[i].Add(medObject); } } conn.Close(); MedicationTimelineClass medObjectx = medsList[i][0] as MedicationTimelineClass; MessageBox.Show(medObjectx.medication_name); } } but then, when I take the message box code out of the loop, meaning that the array of Lists is supposed to be populated, I always get the same value: the last value entered. the same medication name, no matter what number I put between those brackets. It's like if the whole array of Lists is populated with the same data. for (int i = 0; i < numberOfMeds; i++) { queryStr = "select * from biological where medication_name = '" + med_names[i] + "' and patient_id = " + patientID.patient_id; using (var conn = new SqlConnection(connStr)) using (var cmd = new SqlCommand(queryStr, conn)) { conn.Open(); using (SqlDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (rdr.Read()) { medObject.medication_date = (DateTime)rdr["patient_history_date_bio"]; medObject.medication_name = rdr["medication_name"].ToString(); medObject.medication_dose = Convert.ToInt32(rdr["medication_dose"]); medsList[i].Add(medObject); } } conn.Close(); } } MedicationTimelineClass medObjectx = medsList[0][0] as MedicationTimelineClass; MessageBox.Show(medObjectx.medication_name); what's going on here?

  • Forking with Pipes

    Hello I have tried to do fork() and piping in main and it works perfectly fine but when I try to implement it in a function for some reason I don't get any output, this is my code: void cmd(int **pipefd,int count,int type, int last); int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { int pipefd[3][2]; int i, total_cmds = 3,count = 0; int in = 1; for(i = 0; i < total_cmds;i++){ pipe(pipefd[count++]); cmd(pipefd,count,i,0); } /*Last Command*/ cmd(pipefd,count,i,1); exit(EXIT_SUCCESS); } void cmd(int **pipefd,int count,int type, int last){ int child_pid,i,i2; if ((child_pid = fork()) == 0) { if(count == 1){ dup2(pipefd[count-1][1],1); /*first command*/ } else if(last!=0){ dup2(pipefd[count - 2][0],0); /*middle commands*/ dup2(pipefd[count - 1][1],1); } else if(last == 1){ dup2(pipefd[count - 1][0],0); /*last command*/ } for(i = 0; i < count;i++){/*close pipes*/ for(i2 = 0; i2 < 2;i2++){ close(pipefd[i][i2]); }} if(type == 0){ execlp("ls","ls","-al",NULL); } else if(type == 1){ execlp("grep","grep",".bak",NULL); } else if(type==2){ execl("/usr/bin/wc","wc",NULL); } else if(type ==3){ execl("/usr/bin/wc","wc","-l",NULL); } perror("exec"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } else if (child_pid < 0) { perror("fork"); exit(EXIT_FAILURE); } } I checked the file descriptors and it is opening the right ones, not sure what the problem could be..

  • How would I write the following applescript in Obj-C AppScript? ASTranslate was of no help =(

    - by demonslayer319
    The translation tool isn't able to translate this working code. I copied it out of a working script. set pathToTemp to (POSIX path of ((path to desktop) as string)) -- change jpg to pict tell application "Image Events" try launch set albumArt to open file (pathToTemp & "albumart.jpg") save albumArt as PICT in file (pathToTemp & "albumart.pict") --the first 512 bytes are the PICT header, so it reads from byte 513 --this is to allow the image to be added to an iTunes track later. set albumArt to (read file (pathToTemp & "albumart.pict") from 513 as picture) close end try end tell The code is taking a jpg image, converting it to a PICT file, and then reading the file minus the header (the first 512 bytes). Later in the script, albumArt will be added to an iTunes track. I tried translating the code (minus the comments), but ASTranslate froze for a good 2 minutes before giving me this: Untranslated event 'earsffdr' #import "IEGlue/IEGlue.h" IEApplication *imageEvents = [IEApplication applicationWithName: @"Image Events"]; IELaunchCommand *cmd = [[imageEvents launch] ignoreReply]; id result = [cmd send]; #import "IEGlue/IEGlue.h" IEApplication *imageEvents = [IEApplication applicationWithName: @"Image Events"]; IEReference *ref = [[imageEvents files] byName: @"/Users/Doom/Desktop/albumart.jpg"]; id result = [[ref open] send]; #import "IEGlue/IEGlue.h" IEApplication *imageEvents = [IEApplication applicationWithName: @"Image Events"]; IEReference *ref = [[imageEvents images] byName: @"albumart.jpg"]; IESaveCommand *cmd = [[[ref save] in: [[imageEvents files] byName: @"/Users/Doom/Desktop/albumart.pict"]] as: [IEConstant PICT]]; id result = [cmd send]; 'crdwrread' Traceback (most recent call last): File "objcrenderer.pyc", line 283, in renderCommand KeyError: 'crdwrread' 'cascrgdut' Traceback (most recent call last): File "objcrenderer.pyc", line 283, in renderCommand KeyError: 'cascrgdut' 'crdwrread' Traceback (most recent call last): File "objcrenderer.pyc", line 283, in renderCommand KeyError: 'crdwrread' Untranslated event 'rdwrread' OK I have no clue how to make sense of this. • How to force ADO.Net to use only the System.String DataType in the readers TableSchema.

    - by Keith Sirmons
    Howdy, I am using an OleDbConnection to query an Excel 2007 Spreadsheet. I want force the OleDbDataReader to use only string as the column datatype. The system is looking at the first 8 rows of data and inferring the data type to be Double. The problem is that on row 9 I have a string in that column and the OleDbDataReader is returning a Null value since it could not be cast to a Double. I have used these connection strings: Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;IMEX=1;HDR=No" Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="ExcelFile.xlsx";Persist Security Info=False;Extended Properties="Excel 8.0;HDR=No;IMEX=1" Looking at the reader.GetSchemaTable().Rows[7].ItemArray[5], it's dataType is Double. Row 7 in this schema correlates with the specific column in Excel I am having issues with. ItemArray[5] is its DataType column Is it possible to create a custom TableSchema for the reader so when accessing the ExcelFiles, I can treat all cells as text instead of letting the system attempt to infer the datatype? I found some good info at this page: Tips for reading Excel spreadsheets using ADO.NET The main quirk about the ADO.NET interface is how datatypes are handled. (You'll notice I've been carefully avoiding the question of which datatypes are returned when reading the spreadsheet.) Are you ready for this? ADO.NET scans the first 8 rows of data, and based on that guesses the datatype for each column. Then it attempts to coerce all data from that column to that datatype, returning NULL whenever the coercion fails! Thank you, Keith Here is a reduced version of my code: using (OleDbConnection connection = new OleDbConnection(BuildConnectionString(dataMapper).ToString())) { connection.Open(); using (OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand()) { cmd.Connection = connection; cmd.CommandText = SELECT * from [Sheet1$]; using (OleDbDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { using (DataTable dataTable = new DataTable("TestTable")) { dataTable.Load(reader); base.SourceDataSet.Tables.Add(dataTable); } } } }

  • ASP Classic, SQL 2008, XML Output, and DSN vs DSN-Less Produces Chinese Letters

    - by RoLYroLLs
    I've been having a problem for the past month and can't seem to figure out what is wrong. Here's the setup and a little background. Background: I have a web-host who was running my website on Windows Server 2003 and SQL Server 2000. One of my webpages returned a result set from a stored procedure from the SQL server as xml. Below is the code: Stored Procedure: select top 10 1 as tag , null as parent , column1 as [item!1!column1!element] , column2 as [item!1!column2!element] from table1 for XML EXPLICIT ASP Page: index.asp Call OpenConn Set cmd = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Command") With cmd .ActiveConnection = dbc .CommandText = "name of proc" .CommandType = adCmdStoredProc .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@RetVal", adInteger, adParamReturnValue, 4) .Parameters.Append .CreateParameter("@Level", adInteger, adParamInput, 4, Level) End With Set rsItems = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") With rsItems .CursorLocation = adUseClient .CursorType = adOpenStatic .LockType = adLockBatchOptimistic Set .Source = cmd .Open Set .ActiveConnection = Nothing End With If NOT rsItems.BOF AND NOT rsItems.EOF Then OutputXMLQueryResults rsItems,"items" End If Set rsItems = Nothing Set cmd = Nothing Call CloseConn Sub OpenConn() strConn = "Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=[hidden];User Id=[hidden];Password=[hidden];Initial Catalog=[hidden];" Set dbc = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") dbc.open strConn End Sub Sub CloseConn() If IsObject(dbc) Then If dbc.State = adStateOpen Then dbc.Close End If Set dbc = Nothing End If End Sub Sub OutputXMLQueryResults(RS,RootElementName) Response.Clear Response.ContentType = "text/xml" Response.Codepage = 65001 Response.Charset = "utf-8" Response.Write "" Response.Write "" While Not RS.EOF Response.Write RS(0).Value RS.MoveNext WEnd Response.Write "" Response.End End Sub Present: All was working great, until my host upgraded to Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008. All of the sudden I was getting results like this: From Browser: From View Source: However, I found that if I use a DSN connection strConn = "DSN=[my DSN Name];User Id=[hidden];Password=[hidden];Initial Catalog=[hidden];" it works perfectly fine! My current host is not going to support DSN any longer, but that's out of scope for this issue. Someone told me to use an ADO.Stream object instead of a Recordset object, but I'm unsure how to implement that. Question: Has anyone run into this and found a way to fix it? What about that ADO.Stream object, can someone help me with a sample that would fit my code?

  • Using a handle to collect output from CreateProcess()

    - by Stef
    Hi I am using CreateProcess() to run an external console application in Windows from my GUI application. I would like to somehow gather the output to know whether there were errors. Now I know I have to do something with hStdOutput, but I fail to understand what. I am new to c++ and an inexperienced programmer and I actually don't know what to do with a handle or how to light a pipe. How do I get the output to some kind of variable (or file)? This is what I have a the moment: void email::run(string path,string cmd){ WCHAR * ppath=new(nothrow) WCHAR[path.length()*2]; memset(ppath,' ',path.length()*2); WCHAR * pcmd= new(nothrow) WCHAR[cmd.length()*2]; memset(pcmd,' ',cmd.length()*2); string tempstr; ToWCHAR(path,ppath); //creates WCHAR from my std::string ToWCHAR(cmd,pcmd); STARTUPINFO info={sizeof(info)}; info.dwFlags = STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW; //hide process PROCESS_INFORMATION processInfo; if (CreateProcess(ppath,pcmd, NULL, NULL, FALSE, 0, NULL, NULL, &info, &processInfo)) { ::WaitForSingleObject(processInfo.hProcess, INFINITE); CloseHandle(processInfo.hProcess); CloseHandle(processInfo.hThread); } delete[](ppath); delete[](pcmd); } This code probably makes any decent programmer scream, but (I shouldn't even say it:) It works ;-) The Question: How do I use hStdOutput to read the output to a file (for instance)?

  • APACHE2.2/WIN2003(32-bit)/PHP: How do I configure Apache to Run Background PHP Processes on Win 2003

    - by Captain Obvious
    I have a script, testforeground.php, that kicks off a background script, testbackground.php, then returns while the background script continues to run until it's finished. Both the foreground and background scripts write to the output file correctly when I run the foreground script from the command line using php-cgi: C:\>php-cgi testforeground.php The above command starts a php-cgi.exe process, then a php-win.exe process, then closes the php-cgi.exe almost immediately, while the php-win.exe continues until it's finished. The same script runs correctly but does not have permission to write to the output file when I run it from the command line using plain php: C:\>php testforeground.php AND when I run the same script from the browser, instead of php-cgi.exe, a single cmd.exe process opens and closes almost instantly, only the foreground script writes to the output file, and it doesn't appear that the 2nd process starts: http://XXX/testforeground.php Here is the server info: OS: Win 2003 32-bit HTTP: Apache 2.2.11 PHP: 5.2.13 Loaded Modules: core mod_win32 mpm_winnt http_core mod_so mod_actions mod_alias mod_asis mod_auth_basic mod_authn_default mod_authn_file mod_authz_default mod_authz_groupfile mod_authz_host mod_authz_user mod_autoindex mod_cgi mod_dir mod_env mod_include mod_isapi mod_log_config mod_mime mod_negotiation mod_setenvif mod_userdir mod_php5 Here's the foreground script: <?php ini_set("display_errors",1); error_reporting(E_ALL); echo "<pre>loading page</pre>"; function run_background_process() { file_put_contents("0testprocesses.txt","foreground start time = " . time() . "\n"); echo "<pre> foreground start time = " . time() . "\n", FILE_APPEND); return true; } echo "<pre>calling run_background_process</pre>"; $output = run_background_process(); echo "<pre>output = $output</pre>"; echo "<pre>end of page</pre>"; ?> And the background script: <?php $start = "background start time = " . time() . "\n"; file_put_contents("0testprocesses.txt",$start, FILE_APPEND); sleep(10); $end = "background end time = " . time() . "\n"; file_put_contents("0testprocesses.txt", $end, FILE_APPEND); ?> I've confirmed that the above scripts work correctly using Apache 2.2.3 on Linux. I'm sure I just need to change some Apache and/or PHP config settings, but I'm not sure which ones. I've been muddling over this for too long already, so any help would be appreciated.

  • Create Folders from text file and place dummy file in them using a CustomAction

    - by Birkoff
    I want my msi installer to generate a set of folders in a particular location and put a dummy file in each directory. Currently I have the following CustomActions: <CustomAction Id="SMC_SetPathToCmd" Property="Cmd" Value="[SystemFolder]cmd.exe"/> <CustomAction Id="SMC_GenerateMovieFolders" Property="Cmd" ExeCommand="for /f &quot;tokens=* delims= &quot; %a in ([MBSAMPLECOLLECTIONS]movies.txt) do (echo %a)" /> <CustomAction Id="SMC_CopyDummyMedia" Property="Cmd" ExeCommand="for /f &quot;tokens=* delims= &quot; %a in ([MBSAMPLECOLLECTIONS]movies.txt) do (copy [MBSAMPLECOLLECTIONS]dummy.avi &quot;%a&quot;\&quot;%a&quot;.avi)" /> These are called in the InstallExecuteSequence: <Custom Action="SMC_SetPathToCmd" After="InstallFinalize"/> <Custom Action="SMC_GenerateMovieFolders" After="SMC_SetPathToCmd"/> <Custom Action="SMC_CopyDummyMedia" After="SMC_GenerateMovieFolders"/> The custom actions seem to start, but only a blank command prompt window is shown and the directories are not generated. The files needed for the customaction are copied to the correct directory: <Directory Id="WIX_DIR_COMMON_VIDEO"> <Directory Id="MBSAMPLECOLLECTIONS" Name="MB Sample Collections" /> </Directory> <DirectoryRef Id="MBSAMPLECOLLECTIONS"> <Component Id="SampleCollections" Guid="C481566D-4CA8-4b10-B08D-EF29ACDC10B5" DiskId="1"> <File Id="movies.txt" Name="movies.txt" Source="SampleCollections\movies.txt" Checksum="no" /> <File Id="series.txt" Name="series.txt" Source="SampleCollections\series.txt" Checksum="no" /> <File Id="dummy.avi" Name="dummy.avi" Source="SampleCollections\dummy.avi" Checksum="no" /> </Component> </DirectoryRef> What's wrong with these Custom Actions or is there a simpler way to do this?

  • Java process is not terminating after starting an external process

    - by tangens
    On Windows I've started a program "async.cmd" with a ProcessBuilder like this: ProcessBuilder processBuilder = new ProcessBuilder( "async.cmd" ); processBuilder.redirectErrorStream( true ); processBuilder.start(); Then I read the output of the process in a separate thread like this: byte[] buffer = new byte[ 8192 ]; while( !interrupted() ) { int available = m_inputStream.available(); if( available == 0 ) { Thread.sleep( 100 ); continue; } int len = Math.min( buffer.length, available ); len = m_inputStream.read( buffer, 0, len ); if( len == -1 ) { throw new CX_InternalError(); } String outString = new String( buffer, 0, len ); m_output.append( outString ); } Now it happened that the content of the file "async.cmd" was this: REM start a command window start cmd /k The process that started this extenal program terminated (process.waitFor() returned the exit value). Then I sent an readerThread.interrupt() to the reader thread and the thread terminated, too. But there was still a thread running that wasn't terminating. This thread kept my java application running even if it exited its main method. With the debugger (eclipse) I wasn't able to suspend this thread. After I quit the opened command window, my java program exited, too. Question How can I quit my java program while the command window stays open?

  • Java and .net interoperability

    - by dineshrekula
    I have a c# program through which i am opening cmd window as a a process. in this command window i am running a batch file. i am redirecting the output of that batch file commands to a Text File. When i run my application everything seems to be ok. But few times, Application is giving some error like "Can't access the file. it's being used by another application" at the same time cmd window is not getting closed. If we close the cmd process through the Task Manager, then it's writing the content to the file and getting closed. Even though i closed the cmd process, still file handle is not getting released. so that i am not able to run the application next time onwards.Always it's saying Can't access the file. Only after restarting the system, it's working. Here is my code: Process objProcess = new Process(); ProcessStartInfo objProInfo = new ProcessStartInfo(); objProInfo.WindowStyle = ProcessWindowStyle.Maximized; objProInfo.UseShellExecute = true; objProInfo.FileName = "Batch file path" objProInfo.Arguments = "Some Arguments"; if (Directory.Exists(strOutputPath) == false) { Directory.CreateDirectory(strOutputPath); } objProInfo.CreateNoWindow = false; objProcess.StartInfo = objProInfo; objProcess.Start(); objProcess.WaitForExit(); test.bat: java classname argument > output.txt Here is my question: I am not able to trace where the problem is.. How we can see the process which holding handle on ant file. Is there any suggestions for Java and .net interoperability

  • How to copy an array of char pointers with a larger list of char pointers?

    - by Casey Link
    My function is being passed a struct containing, among other things, a NULL terminated array of pointers to words making up a command with arguments. I'm performing a glob match on the list of arguments, to expand them into a full list of files, then I want to replace the passed argument array with the new expanded one. The globbing is working fine, that is, g.gl_pathv is populated with the list of expected files. However, I am having trouble copying this array into the struct I was given. #include <glob.h> struct command { char **argv; // other fields... } void myFunction( struct command * cmd ) { char **p = cmd->argv; char* program = *p++; // save the program name (e.g 'ls', and increment to the first argument glob_t g; memset(&g, 0, sizeof(g)); int res = glob(*p, 0, NULL, &g); *p++ // increment while (*p) { glob(*p++, GLOB_APPEND, NULL, &g); // append the matches } // here i want to replace cmd->argv with the expanded g.gl_pathv memcpy(cmd->argv, g.gl_pathv, g.gl_pathc ); // this doesn't work globfree(&g); }

  • Optimizing C# code in MVC controller

    - by cc0
    I am making a number of distinct controllers, one relating to each stored procedure in a database. These are only used to read data and making them available in JSON format for javascripts. My code so far looks like this, and I'm wondering if I have missed any opportunities to re-use code, maybe make some help classes. I have way too little experience doing OOP, so any help and suggestions here would be really appreciated. Here is my generalized code so far (tested and works); using System; using System.Configuration; using System.Web.Mvc; using System.Data; using System.Text; using System.Data.SqlClient; using Prototype.Models; namespace Prototype.Controllers { public class NameOfStoredProcedureController : Controller { char[] lastComma = { ',' }; String oldChar = "\""; String newChar = "&quot;"; StringBuilder json = new StringBuilder(); private String strCon = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["SomeConnectionString"].ConnectionString; private SqlConnection con; public StoredProcedureController() { con = new SqlConnection(strCon); } public string do_NameOfStoredProcedure(int parameter) { con.Open(); using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("NameOfStoredProcedure", con)) { cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@parameter", parameter); using (SqlDataReader reader = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { while (reader.Read()) { json.AppendFormat("[{0},\"{1}\"],", reader["column1"], reader["column2"]); } } con.Close(); } if (json.Length.ToString().Equals("0")) { return "[]"; } else { return "[" + json.ToString().TrimEnd(lastComma) + "]"; } } //http://host.com/NameOfStoredProcedure?parameter=value public ActionResult Index(int parameter) { return new ContentResult { ContentType = "application/json", Content = do_NameOfStoredProcedure(parameter) }; } } }

  • LOAD DATA INFILE with variables

    - by Hasitha
    I was tring to use the LOAD DATA INFILE as a sotred procedure but it seems it cannot be done. Then i tried the usual way of embedding the code to the application itself like so, conn = new MySqlConnection(connStr); conn.Open(); MySqlCommand cmd = new MySqlCommand(); cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); string tableName = getTableName(serverName); string query = "LOAD DATA INFILE '" + fileName + "'INTO TABLE "+ tableName +" FIELDS TERMINATED BY '"+colSep+"' ENCLOSED BY '"+colEncap+"' ESCAPED BY '"+colEncap+"'LINES TERMINATED BY '"+colNewLine+"' ("+colUpFormat+");"; cmd.CommandText = query; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); conn.Close(); The generated query that gets saved in the string variable query is, LOAD DATA INFILE 'data_file.csv'INTO TABLE tbl_shadowserver_bot_geo FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"' ESCAPED BY '"'LINES TERMINATED BY '\n' (timestamp,ip,port,asn,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,url,agent,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy,@dummy); But now when i run the program it gives an error saying, MySQLException(0x80004005) Parameter @dummy must be defined first. I dont know how to get around this, but when i use the same query on mysql itself directly it works fine. PLEASE help me..thank you very much :)

  • Parse numbers in singe textbox for query

    - by Joshua Slocum
    I’ve built a webform in Visual Web Developer Express 2008 to help me with my work. I use a webform to run query requests that are emailed to me. The inputs are in this format 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 I enter the first number in a textbox and the second number in another textbox and click a button that runs a query and returns the results in a gridview(single row). string strConn, strSQL; strConn = AppConfig.Connection strSQL = 'select fields from table where FirstNum=:FirstNum and SecondNum=:SecondNum'; using (OracleConnection cn = new OracleConnection(strConn)) { OracleCommand cmd = new OracleCommand(strSQL, cn); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":FirstNum", txtFirstNum.Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(":SeconNum", txtSecondNum.Text); cn.Open(); using (OracleDataReader rdr = cmd.ExecuteReader()) { dgResults.DataSource = rdr; dgResults.DataBind(); } cn.Close(); } I had an idea to help me speed up my work. I’d like to be able to past both numbers in a single textbox ( like this 12312 12312 ) and have the code parse out the nubmers for the query. Or even better would be to past all of them in a multiline textbox like this 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 12312 And have them all parsed and the query run for each line and the results all output to one gridview. I’m just not sure how to approach this. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • ASP.NET SqlDataReader throwing error: Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed.

    - by Bugget
    This one has me stumped. Here are the relative bits of code: public AgencyDetails(Guid AgencyId) { try { evgStoredProcedure Procedure = new evgStoredProcedure(); Hashtable commandParameters = new Hashtable(); commandParameters.Add("@AgencyId", AgencyId); SqlDataReader AppReader = Procedure.ExecuteReaderProcedure("evg_getAgencyDetails", commandParameters); commandParameters.Clear(); //The following line is where the error is thrown. Errormessage: Invalid attempt to call Read when reader is closed. while (AppReader.Read()) { AgencyName = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyName").ToString(); AgencyAddress = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyAddress").ToString(); AgencyCity = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyCity").ToString(); AgencyState = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyState").ToString(); AgencyZip = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyZip").ToString(); AgencyPhone = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyPhone").ToString(); AgencyFax = AppReader.GetOrdinal("AgencyFax").ToString(); } AppReader.Close(); AppReader.Dispose(); } catch (Exception ex) { throw new Exception("AgencyDetails Constructor: " + ex.Message.ToString()); } } And the implementation of ExecuteReaderProcedure: public SqlDataReader ExecuteReaderProcedure(string ProcedureName, Hashtable Parameters) { SqlDataReader returnReader; using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { try { SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(ProcedureName, conn); SqlParameter param = new SqlParameter(); cmd.CommandType = System.Data.CommandType.StoredProcedure; foreach (DictionaryEntry keyValue in Parameters) { cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue(keyValue.Key.ToString(), keyValue.Value); } conn.Open(); returnReader = cmd.ExecuteReader(CommandBehavior.CloseConnection); } catch (SqlException e) { throw new Exception(e.Message.ToString()); } } return returnReader; } The connection string is working as other stored procedures in the same class run fine. The only problem seems to be when returning SqlDataReaders from this method! They throw the error message in the title. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  • Add dynamic charts using ASP.NET CHART CONTROL, c#

    - by dhareni
    I wanted to add dynamic charts in the webpage. It goes like this... I get the start and end date from user and draw separate charts for each date bewteen the start and end date. I get the data from sql database and bind it with the chart like this: SqlConnection UsageLogConn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["UsageConn"].ConnectionString); UsageLogConn.Open();//open connection string sql = "SELECT v.interval,dateadd(mi,(v.interval-1)*2,'" + startdate + " 00:00:00') as 'intervaltime',COUNT(Datediff(minute,'" + startdate + " 00:00:00',d.DateTime)/2) AS Total FROM usage_internet_intervals v left outer join (select * from Usage_Internet where " + name + " LIKE ('%" + value + "%') and DateTime BETWEEN '" + startdate + " 00:00:00' AND '" + enddate + " 23:59:59') d on v.interval = Datediff(minute,'" + startdate + " 00:00:00',d.DateTime)/2 GROUP BY v.interval,Datediff(minute,'" + startdate + " 00:00:00',d.DateTime)/2 ORDER BY Interval"; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(sql, UsageLogConn); SqlDataAdapter mySQLadapter = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); Chart1.DataSource = cmd; // set series members names for the X and Y values Chart1.Series["Series 1"].XValueMember = "intervaltime"; Chart1.Series["Series 1"].YValueMembers = "Total"; UsageLogConn.Close(); // data bind to the selected data source Chart1.DataBind(); cmd.Dispose(); The above code adds only one chart for one date and I have added 'chart1' to design view and its not created dynamic. But I wanted to add more charts dynamic at runtime to the webpage. Can anyone help me with this? I am using VS 2008, ASP.NET 3.5 and the charting lib is: using System.Web.UI.DataVisualization.Charting;

  • VB dataset issue

    - by Gabriel
    Hi. The idea was to create a message box that stores my user name, message, and post datetime into the database as messages are sent. Soon came to realise, what if the user changed his name? So I decided to use the user id (icn) to identify the message poster instead. However, my chunk of codes keep giving me the same error. Says that there are no rows in the dataset ds2. I've tried my Query on my SQL and it works perfectly so I really really need help to spot the error in my chunk of codes here. Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load Dim name As String Dim icn As String Dim message As String Dim time As String Dim tags As String = "" Dim strConn As System.Configuration.ConnectionStringSettings strConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("ufadb") Dim conn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(strConn.ToString()) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("Select * From Message", conn) Dim daMessages As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter(cmd) Dim ds As New DataSet cmd.Connection.Open() daMessages.Fill(ds, "Messages") cmd.Connection.Close() If ds.Tables("Messages").Rows.Count > 0 Then Dim n As Integer = ds.Tables("Messages").Rows.Count Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To n - 1 icn = ds.Tables("Messages").Rows(i).Item("icn") Dim cmd2 As New SqlCommand("SELECT name FROM Member inner join Message ON Member.icn = Message.icn WHERE message.icn = @icn", conn) cmd2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@icn", icn) Dim daName As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter(cmd2) Dim ds2 As New DataSet cmd2.Connection.Open() daName.Fill(ds2, "PosterName") cmd2.Connection.Close() name = ds2.Tables("PosterName").Rows(0).Item("name") message = ds.Tables("Messages").Rows(i).Item("message") time = ds.Tables("Messages").Rows(i).Item("timePosted") tags = time + vbCrLf + name + ": " + vbCrLf + message + vbCrLf + tags Next txtBoard.Text = tags Else txtBoard.Text = "nothing to display" End If End Sub Help will be very much appreciated as I have been on this simple problem for 2 days.

  • Graceful DOS Command Error-Handling

    - by Captain Obvious
    PHP 5.2.13 on Windows 2003 I am using the DOS Start /B command to launch a background application using the PHP popen() function: popen("start /B {$_SERVER['HOMEPATH']}/{$app}.exe > {$_SERVER['HOMEPATH']}/bg_output.log 2>&1 & echo $!", 'r'); The popen() function launches a cmd.exe process that runs the specified command; however, if the command fails (e.g. the {$app}.exe doesn't exist or is locked in the above example), the cmd.exe process never returns, and PHP hangs indefinitely as a result. Calling the failing DOS command directly using the Command Prompt results in an Error prompt that requires clicking the OK button. I assume this error confirmation requirement is what's preventing the cmd.exe process from returning to PHP both from the Command Prompt (using both CGI and CLI) and the web (using Apache 2.0 handler w/Apache 2.2). Is there a way to write the DOS command or configure the server or cmd.exe app itself to return the DOS error to the originating call rather than waiting for confirmation?
