  Let's say we have an image like so Let's say we've already used filters and an edge detection algorithm in this pic. Now my goal is to measure distances (NOT actual distances, distance can be in any arbitrary unit) . eg: How do I find the length of the hall? (until the window) Or the height of the bookshelves? How exactly do you place the "scale" and measure. I'm looking for ideas. However it would help if the answers were in terms of OpenCV.

• Replace input type=file by an image

  Hi, Like a lot of people, I'd like to customize the ugly input type=file, and I know that it can't be done without some hacks and/or javascript. But, the thing is that in my case the upload file buttons are just for uploading images (jpeg|jpg|png|gif), so I was wondering if I could use a "clickable" image which would act exactly as an input type file (show the dialog box, and same $_FILE on submitted page). I found some workaround here, and this interesting one too (but does not work on Chrome =/). What do you guys do when you want to add some style to your file buttons? • Finding many local max in an image (using MatLab)

  How do you go about figuring our multiple max in a 2D image where the max aren't necessarily all the same height? I have found that the imregionalmax(), imextendedmax(), and findpeaks() functions aren't necessarily that helpful because they give many local max that are really just maxes within the background noise. I tried bw=arrayimdilate(array,[1 1 1; 1 0 1; 1 1 1]) but that also is kind of limited for the same reasons (same thing with expanding the matrix that it uses). I'd definitely appreciate some help..

  Hi, I've used JQuery in the past to fade divs in and out successfully. However, I have encountered a situation I can't quite wrap my head around: I am coding a site for a designer who has based the formatting of all the elements on a grid pattern he's created. As he wants the pattern elements to be the same size independent of the browser window, I think I can only do this via a repeating background tiled image in CSS. Now he wants the background pattern (only) to come in dark and fade to very light, while not effecting any of the other elements. Am I right in thinking it's impossible to call a tiled background pattern using a CSS selector? Does anyone have any suggestions of a workaround to this problem?

  I am developing a simple platform game using Java using BlueJ as the IDE. Right now I have player/enemy sprites, platforms and other items in the game drawn using polygons and simple shapes. Eventually I hope to replace them with actual images. For now I would like to know what is the simplest solution to setting an image (either URL or from local source) as the 'background' of my game window/canvas? I would appreciate it if it isn't something long or complex as my programming skills aren't very good and I want to keep my program as simple as possible. • Android : How to Remove all capital letters from image filenames before importing into Eclipse

  As you know, you can't have capital letters in your image filenames that you use in your Android project (Ressource/Drawables folder). I've got hundreds of small images (GOOG.GIF as an exemple) that I need to import into my project (I usually do a simple drag and drop from a desktop folder into Eclipse). So here's the question : How do I quickly change all the filenames (replace all capital letters to lower case) before importing into my project ? So, GOOG.GIF becomes goog.gif AAPL.GIF becomes aapl.gif etc. Any quick command line solution or another tool to do just that ? Thanks.

• Codeigniter Image Library Cropping an Image with 2 sets of coordinates to make square anywhere?

  Spending time reading through the docs, and searching for examples. I understand cropping an image from top 0, and left 0 is pretty straight forward. However. I would like to pass 2 sets of coordinates, a starting point and an ending point. Four Points, a Square that is defined anywhere. However from the examples I am finding, and from what I gather the rendition is not going to let me do this. codeigniter so I am seeking confirmation on this thought, is it true that I can only provide end points from 0, and it crops a square based on said end points or can I actually specify an x start, an x end, and similar for y? Or is there some other technique I can use within codeigniter that will allow me to pass for coordinates for starting and ending points?

• Oversize cursor in Firefox form with textbox background image

  Hi all, I have a webform with background images on the textboxes to give them a nice rounded corner. In Chrome the textboxes work as expected, however, if I view the form in Firefox the cursor appears to size to the height of the image, but the text is a normal size. Is there a way to override this oversized cursor? • Android image scaling to support multiple resolutions

  I've coded my game for 320x480 and I figure that the easiest way to support multiple resolutions is to scale the end image. What are your thoughts on this? Would it be cpu efficient to do it this way? I have all my images placed in the mdpi folder, I'll have it drawn unscaled on the screen onto a buffer, then scale it to fit the screen. all the user inputs will be scaled as well. I have these 2 questions: -How do you draw a bitmap without android automatically scaling it -How do you scale a bitmap?

  How can I get static content on Apache to be {cached by browser} and not {checked for freshness {with every request}}? I'm working on a website hosted on Apache webserver. Recently, I was testing something with headers (Content-Type for different types of content) and saw a lot of conditional requests for images. Example: 200 /index.php?page=1234&action=list 304 /favicon.ico 304 /img/logo.png 304 /img/arrow.png (etc.) Although the image files are static content and are cached by the browser, every time an user opens a page that links to them, they are conditionally requested, to which they send "304 Not Modified". That's good (less data transferred), but it means 20+ more requests with every page load (longer page load due to all those round-trips, even with Keep-Alive and pipelining enabled). How do I tell the browser to keep the existing file and not check for newer version? EDIT: the mod_expires method works, even with the favicon.

I am new to image processing and I think in this case p_value is 25 and around 25 that are many pixel values in that range but don't exactly know to construct a convolution filter out of it.

  I made an application that store Item pictures (jpeg) in SQL Server DB, the use shot pictures with his camera (file size ~ 2 M), in my aaplication I check if picture.Width 800 or picture.Height 600, I resize the picture to 800x600. -- if I export picture from DB, the file size is about 100k, if I open the same picture in photoshop, the image size shows 1.37M. 01-- I want to know the space that takes this picture in my DB. The reason I'm resizing the picture before storing it in my DB, is that I imagine it take a huge space in my DB. 02-- How to resize a picture to keep it' s aspect ratio?

  Hello there, In my app, I am composing an HMTL email message with the 3.0+ MFMailComposeViewController. To do this, I created an HTML file, with some placeholders. In my code, I read the HTML file, and with replaceOccurrencesOfString, I replace the placeholders with data from the app. In that way, I compose the body of the email I want to send out. This is all working very nicely, except for the fact, that in my HTML file, I have an <img src='imageplaceholderpath' /> tag. Somehow, I cannot figure out, with what I should replace this imageplaceholderpath, in order to refer to an image that resides in my app. Is this a valid approach at all, and if so, what would be the syntax/logic behind the path I should put there?   I'm building a image sharing site and would like to know the pros and cons of resizing images on the fly with php and having the resized images stored. Which is faster? Which is more reliable? how big is the gap between the two methods in speed and performance? Please note that either way the images go through a PHP script for statistics like views or if hotlinking is allow etc... so is not like it will be a direct link for images if i opt to store the resize images.   I am working on a program to detect the tips of a probing device and analyze the color change during probing. The input/output mechanisms are more or less in place. What I need now is the actual meat of the thing: detecting the tips. In the images below, the tips are at the center of the crosses. I thought of applying BFS to the images after some threshold'ing but was then stuck and didn't know how to proceed. I then turned to OpenCV after reading that it offers feature detection in images. However, I am overwhelmed by the vast amount of concepts and techniques utilized here and again, clueless about how to proceed. Am I looking at it the right way? Can you give me some pointers?   I have strings that are "Images", although they are in "String" format. Here's how one of the strings look like: {\pict\wmetafile8\picw820\pich900\picwgoal465\pichgoal510 010009000003ac1000000000f60900000000f6090000..etc.. It goes on like this for a few more lines. The guy that got this said he converted the image by pasting it in a richtextbox and getting that string. How can I go about getting the same result? Sorry for the lack of info. Just not sure how this is called.

I need to figure out a way to get this running without adding code to the body tag. Is there a way to accomplish this without, say, an onload funtion placed in the body tag?   I did it and i am going to explain step by step. The explanatination may appear long but its simple if you follow. Note: All the softwares i have used are the latest and i have packaged them and provided them in the link below. I use Nokia N96 1) RootSign smartComGPS and install it on your phone(i havent provided the signer so that u wuld do some little work. i used Secman' rootsign). 2) Install Universal Maps Downloader, SmartCom OGF2 converter and OziExplorer 3.95.4s on my PC. a) UMD is used to download map tiles from any map source like googlemaps,opensourcemaps etc... and also combine the tiles into an image file like png,jpg,bmp etc... b) SmartCom OGF2 converter is used to convert the image file into a format usable on your mobile phone. c) OziExplorer will help you to calibrate the usable map file so that it can be used with GPS on your mobile phone without the use of internet. 3) Go to google maps or where u pick your maps and pan to the area of your interest. Zoom the map to at least 15 or 16 zoom level where you can see your area clearly and the streets. 4) copy this script in a notepad file and save it on your desktop: javascript:void(prompt('',gApplication.getMap().ge tCenter())); 5) Open the universal maps downloader. You will notice that you are required to add the: left longitude, right longitude,top latitude, bottom latitude. 6) On your map in google maps, doubleclick on the your prefered to most middle point. you will notice that the map will center in that area. 7) copy the script and paste it in the address bar then press enter. You will notice that a dialog with your (top latitude) and longitude respectively pops up. 8) copy the top latitude ONLY and paste it in the corresponding textbox in the UMD. 9) repeat steps 6-7 for the botton latitude. 10)repeat steps 6-7 for left longitude and right longitude too, but u have to copy the longitudes here. (***BTW record these points in the text file as they may be needed later in calibration) 11) Give the zoom level to the same zoom level that you prefered in google maps. 12) Dont forget to choose a path to save your files and under options set the proxy connection settings in UMD if you are using so. 13) Click on start and bingo! there you have your image tiles and a file with an extension .umd will be saved in the same folder. 14) On the UMD, go to tools, click on MapViewer and choose the .umd file. you will now see your map in one piece....and you will smile! 15) Still go to tools and click on map combiner. A dialog will popup for you to choose the .umd file and to enter the IMAGE file name. u can use another extension for the image file like png, jpg etc...i usually use png. 16) Combine.....bingo! there u go! u have an IMAGE file for your map. *I SUGGEST THAT CREATE A .BMP FILE and A .PNG file* 17) Close UMD and open SmartCom OGF2 converter. 18) Choose your .png image and create an ogf2 file. 19) Connect your phone to your PC in Mass Memory mode and transfer the file to the smartComGPS\Maps folder. 20) Now disconnect your phone and load smartComGPS. it will load the map and propt you to add a calibration point. Go ahead and add one calibration point with dummy coordinates. You will notice that it will add another file with extension .map in the smartComGPS\Maps folder. 21) Connect yiur ohone and copy that file and paste it in your working folder on your PC. Delete that .map file from the phone too because you are going to edit it from your PC and put it back. 22) Now Open the OziExplorer, go to file-->Load and Calibrate Map Image. 23) Choose the .bmp image and bingo! it will load with your map in the same zoom level. 24) Now you are going to calibrate. Use the MapView window and take the small box locater to all the 4 cornners of the map. You will notice that the map in the back ground moves to that area too. 25)On the right side, select the Point1 tab. Now you are in calibration mode. Now move the red box in mapview in the left upper corner to calibrate point1. 26) out of mapview go to the the left upper corner of the background map and choose poit (0,0) and your 1st calibration point. You will notice that these X,Y cordinated will be reflected in the Point1 image cordinates. 27) now go back to the text file where you saved your coordibates and enter the top latitude and the left longitude in the corresponding places. 28) Repeat steps 25-27 for point2,point3,point4 and click on save. Thats it, you have calibrated your image and you are about to finish. 29) Go to save and a dilaog which prompts you to save a .map file will poop up. Do save the map file in your working folder. 30) Right click that .map file and edit the filename in the .map file to remove the pc's directory structure. Eg. Change C\OziExplorer\data\Kampala.bmp to Kampala.ogf2. 31) Save the .map file in the smartComGPS\Maps folder on your phone. 32) now open smartComGPS on your phone and bingo! there is your map with GPS capability and in the same zoom level. 33) In smartComGPS options, choose connect and simulate. By now you should be smiling. Whoa!   I noticed that in Jeff's slides "Challenges in Building Large-Scale Information Retrieval Systems", which can also be downloaded here: http://research.google.com/people/jeff/WSDM09-keynote.pdf, a method of integers compression called "group varint encoding" was mentioned. It was said much faster than 7 bits per byte integer encoding (2X more). I am very interested in this and looking for an implementation of this, or any more details that could help me implement this by myself. I am not a pro and new to this, and any help is welcome!
