  • ASMX Web Service - "This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace." message

    I've created a web service using Visual Studio ( 2005 - I know I'm old school ) and it all compiles fine but when it opens I get warned thus: This web service does not conform to WS-I Basic Profile v1.1. And furthermore: This web service is using http://tempuri.org/ as its default namespace. Which would be fine except my service begins thus: [WebService(Namespace = "http://totally-not-default-uri.com/servicename")] Searching the entire solution folder for "tempuri" returns nothing. I can't find it mentioned in any configuration page acessible from Visual Studio. And yet it's right there in the wsdl:definitions list for the xmlns:tns attribute on the web service descriptor page when I view it through the browser and as targetNamespace in the same tag. I'm viewing it using Visual Studio's "debug" mode with the built in server from that. Seems like something has got cached somewhere but I can't work out what and where- I've tried stopping and restarting the server, cleaning and rebuilding the service and going through the associated text config files with a text editor but no dice. Any idea what is going on?

  • should I include VB macros in source control with my project?

    For a C# project, I make use of several Visual Basic macros in Visual Studio. I was just considering that these would be of use to other developers that work on the C# project. The macros so far include removing trailing whitespace on save, organizing using directives and removing unnecessary ones, and an override for Ctrl-M Ctrl-O that expands regions. Would it be reasonable for me to include this macro code with my C# project in Subversion? I don't know if it's even possible for macros to be made available/work in Visual Studio just because you open a particular Solution file, and that might be too invasive since some of the macros override existing VS behavior.

    I use a .mdf database for my asp.net Mvc project. The project is on source control on a tfs. When I debug the project, Visual Studio copies the database in to the debugmap. The problem is, when I debug next time, the changes (while testing the previous time) in the database are gone. The reason of this I know, Visual studio copies the original database again in to the debug map. Can I change some settings in Visual studio to work always on the same database without copying the database after each debug session myself? So I can keep my modified records? Or how do I have to work with my database while developing? Greets

  • Why do I get CA1811 when I call a private method from a public method in C++/CLI?

    I've recently upgraded my project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. By enabling Code Analysis and building on Release, I'm getting warning CA1811: Avoid uncalled private code. I've managed to reduce the code to this: .h file: public ref class Foo { public: virtual System::String^ ToString() override; private: static System::String^ Bar(); }; .cpp file: String^ Foo::ToString() { return Bar(); } String^ Foo::Bar() { return "abc"; } The warning I get: CA1811 : Microsoft.Performance : 'Foo::Bar(void)' appears to have no upstream public or protected callers. It doesn't matter if Bar() is static or not. I've tried to reproduce it in C# but I can't. I can only reproduce it in C++/CLI. Why do I get this warning? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

  • Build turns partially transparent image pixels black

    I'm very new to C# and I've run into a problem and haven't been able to solve it. I have a row of buttons that have .png images assigned to them. The images are in .png format to allow transparency, and smoothing the edges in GIMP leaves some semi-transparent pixels. I've set the Image List Toolbar (imglToolbar)'s properties to recognize "Transparent" as the designated color to show up as transparent. I'm working in Visual Studio 2005. The strange thing is that everything looks great when I'm viewing the Visual C# form preview window. The icons look exactly as they should. However, once I actually build the project, the buttons treat every semi-transparent pixel near the edge of the image as if it's black. If I restore the settings via the displays application, everything is fine.   • Audio comes out of both headphone and speaker at the same time.. Ubuntu 12.04LTS [closed]

    I have the same issue on an Aspire. Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit realtek audio sound chip onboard If I plug in a headset, audio does not switch from internal speaker to headset, instead plays out of both at the same time. I have looked at the alsamixer setting, all on. I installed gnome-alsamixer, and I noticed headphone was ticked, if I untick the main audio mutes, and the headphone no longer works. Headset only works with internal speaker.   • Laptop Asus P50IJ with Intel 4500M GMA output going to a Dell 1907FP external monitor will not allow

    Hello - I just purchased an Asus P50IJ-X2 laptop which has a Intel GMA 4500M video card running Windows7. At work I output this laptop to a Dell 1907FP LCD which has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. Not matter what I do the Windows will not allow the laptop to set a resolution higher than 1024x768 to this LCD monitor. Ive even gone to the extent of downloading PowerStrip (I'd post a link but Im new and can only enter 1 url, if you google for powerstrip its the first option) to create a custom driver for my monitor thinking Windows was having a hard time seeing the available resolutions it would accept. However, powerstrip read the registery and properly sees the monitor and what its capable of so Im now at a complete loss as to why Windows7 will not allow me to set/use a 1280x1024 resolution for this external monitor (as my last laptop did running Vista). The Intel documentation (http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-integrated-graphics/) indicates that the GMA 4500M should be able to run up to a 2560x1600 max res. The Dell 1907FP specification states it can run up to a 1280x1024 res. But no matter what the computer will not allow me to set higher than a 1024x768. I'm completely baffled but I would really like to be able to output this laptop to a reasonable resolution, 1024x768 makes me feel like I'm using my mom's computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!   • Microphone not capturing sound on 12.04 Lenovo G580

    In both Skype and the Sound Recorder application, I am not capturing any audio from my built-in microphone. I'm not sure why. Otherwise, sound output is working well. I have tried running gstreamer-properties and setting the Default Input plugin to PulseAUdio as well (to match the output), and it didn't help. I have tried running alsamixer -V all and I only get 2 input-related entries: Capture(L R) which is on 100 and not muted (can't be either), and Analog Mic Boost which is on 20db. Extra info: Camera (video) is working well on Skype and Kamerka.   • Installing perforce visual client on linux

    I am from Mac background trying my hand at installing perforce client visual(P4V) on my linux box.For this I download the correct version here and untar the files. Then I cd to the directory ~/Desktop/p4v-2012-blah-blah/bin I also say chmod +x p4* After this i try running p4v (by double clicking) but I dont see anything .The file type is shown as a "text executable" but i dont know why it is not running. On mac i had done the same thing -just clicked on p4v and the client would show up(where I filled the server address and everything )But not sure what is going wrong here.Can someone give me directions? FWIW i did check out this link .

    I'm getting a new development laptop soon, and I'm thinking of using TrueCrypt to encrypt the whole disk. What kind of performance drop can I expect? 10%? 30%? more? Also, assuming the workload has an effect, would compiling/using Visual Studio be affected much? I cannot seem to find anything like this on the web.

    Hi, Whenever I try to open a project in Visual Studio 2005 (Windows XP), my open project dialog become slow as molasses - navigating down one level of folders typically takes almost 60 seconds. Finding the project and opening it can take up 4-5 minutes, which is just ridiculous. I've checked the open project dialogs of other programs - only VS2005 is acting this way. What could be causing this problem and how do I go about solving it (apart from reinstalling VS2005 / windows) (Edit: Even VS2008 on the same machine does not have this problem. I don't know what's wrong.) Thanks!

    I want to remove visual studio 2010 from a computer i am selling but even after uninstall, it looks like my product key is still around - if you re-install it it will use the product key... How do I remove that registration info from the computer as I don't want the new owner of the computer to use my product key. And I don't want to have to uninstall Windows.
