• Can't connect to exchange thru my smart phone

  We just moved Exchange server from our company to Local data center. Everything is working except mobile access. There is no problem with receiving and sending email from outlook of my laptop, but I can’t connect to exchange server from my smart phone to receive email. While I am setting up exchange account for my phone(Google) , it recognizes when I put wrong password. But it says “Unable to open connection to server” with right password and ID. Is there any option for IP address for this service when I move my server to different location? Please, help me out for any clue.

• Running complete Native Linux on phones that are bootloader-unlocked [on hold]

  Since there are many phones (HTC, Samsung, LG, Nexus) today that have bootloader unlocked, I want to ask what's preventing them from running a complete native GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux has ARM port and we can run a command line GNU/Linux on top of Android by the method of chroot. So, what's preventing for existing bootloader unlocked Android phones from running a complete GNU/Linux natively? The device should get a long shelf life if it has one such port. My few thoughts.. Proprietary drivers for hardware that cannot be made to work when using a different OS. And the binary provider will never support any OS other than what the phone is shipped with. Application Interface. The interface for desktop apps doesn't fit to the mobile display with different PPI. Kernel. Since android devices use Linux kernel whose sources should be available, could the device kernel be modified to work with GNU/Linux. And any other reasons?

  A company I work with recently replaced their old server and gave it to me. Their old server is a Dell PowerEdge 2600. I've been playing with the machine and even installed Windows Server 2008 on it...and it seems to run it pretty well. Here are the specs for the two machines: Dev Machine: AMD Athlon64 3000+ 2.38 GHz (overclocked from 1.8GHz [@ 280x8.5] - it is stable-ish) Memory (RAM): 1x1GB OCZ PC3200 (Dual-Channel) 300GB HD OS: Windows XP Pro (32bit) SuperPi 1M digit test: 40 seconds Dell PowerEdge 2600 Server: Intel Xeon CPU 2.8GHz 2.8GHz Memory (RAM): 512MBx2 (PC2700, not dual channel) 68GB HD (RAID 5) OS: Windows Server 2000 (32bit) SuperPi 1M digit test: 56 seconds [using 1 processor] (Themes and Aero-Flass UI turned off, of course) I use my computer to regularly run Photoshop CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, 5 browsers (Chrome, FF, IE, Safari, Opera), iTunes, Visual Studio 2010, and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 [sometimes simultaneously :-) ]. The SuperPi test has my dev machine coming in about 30% faster than the Server machine...though this could be due to the server running "Vista" with background processes prioritized. Do you think it would be realistic/advantageous for me to move from my dev machine to the Dell PowerEdge 2600? Is it possible to install additional DVD drives/burners on the server? Can I install my internal 300 GB hard drive on the server? Can I add some USB 2.0 ports? Note: I'll probably install Win XP Pro on the dev machine if I do switch. If not, are there any creative and useful way for me to take advantage of this server (with the goal of faster computing)?

• Use Outlook 2007 to connect to mail using active sync protocol

  Has anyone tried connected outlook(I am running v2007 on Windows 7) to a mail service using the MS Exchange Active Sync protocol? I know it is intended for mobile devices, but to me it looks like it is becoming the latest 'de facto' mail protocol for email/calendar/contact sync'ing due to the iPhone's support for it. I just think it would be an elegant solution to get my lotus notes mail in outlook(my company uses lotus notes with traveler service installed that exposes mail over the active sync protocol so I can currently read my notes mail via iPhone). This solution would probably eliminate the need for all the hacks needed to connect outlook to 'X' mail (Gmail, notes, etc) So, maybe someone out there has tried this or knows how to do it before spend time on more researching this. • What kind of server do I need to handle 10 million requests and mySQL queries a day?

  I'm a new bie of server administration and I'm looking for a powerful hosting service to host my new website. This website is basically a back-end of an mobile online game, and it will: handle up to 10 million of HTTPS request and mySQL queries a day store up to 2000 GB file on the hard disk transfer probably 5000 GB data in and out per month it runs on PHP and mySQL have 10 million records in mySQL database, for each record there are 5-10 fields, around 100 bytes each I really don't know what kind of a server I need to handle these requirements, my question is: what cpu/ram do I need for a dedicated server or vps? what hosting companies are able to offer this kind of dedicated server or VPS? what about cloud computing? I've researched Amazon EC2 but it seems complicated to me. And I've contacted Rackspace but strangely they said Cloudsites is not suitable for my requirements. I wonder if there is other cloud hosting company. any other alternative method? thanks very much!

• Xperia handset - cannot send files using bluetooth

  My friend has a Sony Ericsson Xperia (most probably X8) handset which is an Android based smartphone. He is not able to send files through bluetooth but able to receive. I don't exactly remember the version of Android which he is currently having. He has tried to download and install the required update using the same phone (he has internet connected) from http://www.sonyericsson.com but not able to install it. So, he asked me to help him. Which version of Android do you think he has? Does it seem like he does not have Android 2.1 installed. It is written here (click on Xperia X8) that If your phone already has Android 2.1, you can use your mobile network* or a WiFi connection to download the software. Is it possible that he does not have updated Android and so not able to download? If so, does he need to upgrade to Android 2.1 first? Should it be done by connecting it to a PC?

  I've upgraded recently from Windows Vista to Windows 8. When I try to rate my computer, it accesses DirectX 9 performance, then processes to DirectX 10 tests: And it gets stuck at this point. In 5–10 minutes, it shows error message: The video card is rather old: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family. I'm pretty sure it does not support DirectX 10. Why does Windows assess it with DirectX 10? And how can I make it skip DirectX 10 tests and get the system rating? The driver was installed automatically by Windows 8 from Windows Update. • E71 update my music files keep getting disconnected via USB

  Previously, i can update my music files using Oviplayer to my E71 Nokia. Now whenever i plug in my E71 i choose PC suite. i go to Oviplayer in my laptop. and i select the mobile phone section and i press the connect button, automatically my phone is disconnected via USB. the alternative is to choose media transfer or media player. The same thing happens. And the connecting screen at Ovi player is like hanged. I have previously transferred songs, but only twice. first time this has happened to me. I do not know why. • Instant messanger capable of offline messaging & tolerant of network interruptions

  I am looking for an instant messaging solution to facilitate communications between recovery vehicles in remote rural areas. All the vehicles have internet connections, but they are intermittent depending on location. Ideally we'd like something that has the following features: Offline messaging: messages sent to clients who are offline will be delivered when they next come online, regardless of whether the sender is still online or not. Lightweight: CPU cycles are limited on the machines in these vehicles. A bloated solution will be an issue. Client platform is primarily win32, but support for osx/linux/mobile devices would be a bonus. Non-chatty: Bandwidth is a precious commodity for us, so services which use a minimal amount are ideal. Fault tolerant: We see plenty of packetloss and high latency, so whatever we use needs to be able to function in trying network conditions. I'm not fussed if we use a hosted platform like gtalk/skype/msn/icq/whatever, and likewise I can run a server if need be. Suggestions would be appreciated!

• How to send a popup message to unknow computer connected to my WLAN?

  Is there any way to send a popup message from a Linux systen to a "random" laptop/tablet/mobile linked to my Wireless network ? For example, if I let my WLAN open and I see a not recognized computer connected to it, is there anyway to send to that device a message ? On the other hand, if I am connected to someone else open network and they may or may not be aware that their network is open, can I send them a message warning that I am accessing their network? Probably for a completely "random" device the answer should be no. But if we restrict to laptops with Win7 or Linux SO is there any service running by default on such systems that allows one to send such popup messages ? PS: I have no practical motivation for this question. This is only a curiosity.

• Which smartphone OS would you choose for your users ?

  While we currently only use windows mobile smartphone, my boss seems less and less reluctant to try and choose a new kind of OS for our users corporate phones. For some reasons, we can't use a Blackberry Enterprise Server, so i guess our only choice is between Iphone OS and Android (or Blackberry without BES ? I don't really know if this works fine) We need activesync capable smartphones of course, and activesync security policies must be available (pin when using your phone for example). Centralized Phone management would be nice too :D Any ideas on what should be the best smartphone to choose for our users ?

• Why is Safari on my computer rendering all of the colors -- not just for images -- incorrectly?

  I’m not just talking about image color profile issues; every single color that the browser renders is incorrect. It’s like it’s in it’s own color space (or something!). Screenshot: http://drp.ly/DJk1O (Opera, Safari, Chrome, Firefox) Spot the odd one out? Open this up in Photoshop or similar and try using the eyedropper to select the colour. Safari renders the same hex color completely differently. That color is set using a background-color declaration in CSS, so it should be identical in all four of those browsers. • Wireless Network Disappearing From Available Networks (Windows 7)

  I have been using Windows 7 with a BT Voyager wireless adapter to connect to my home wireless network for around the last 6 months or so and until recently have experienced no problems. However, over the last couple of days Windows has been unable to connect to the network and the network name is no longer visible in the list of available wireless networks. The only way I have got round the problem is to reboot the NetGear router and to change the SSID to a network name which has not already been used. I do not believe the problem is with the router as my mobile phone can connect to it without any problems. The BT Voyager wireless adapter detects all other available networks so I presume this is a Windows 7 issue as it seems to occur when the PC is rebooted. This problen has happened twice in the last 2 days and is becoming extremely annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions?

• GMail IMAP + Apple Mail / iPhone - "Account exceeded bandwidth limits. (Failure)"

  Started seeing this this morning in Apple Mail. I have one of those exclamation point error indicators next to "Inbox", with this error message when I click on it: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “IMAP Account” or try again. The server returned the error: Account exceeded bandwidth limits. (Failure). This is in Snow Leopard. I'm using GMail IMAP, and I am way below the size quota - I've never heard of there even being a bandwidth quota. I'm also not getting mail from the same account to the mail app on my iPhone. EDIT - a month later I'm seeing this, and I'm thinking of just switching Mobile Me. EDIT AGAIN - Making community wiki. I stopped seeing the problem once I updated Snow Leopard to the latest version, but since others continue to see it...

• How to use iptables to foward outbound web traffic to a proxy?

  I've been hitting my head for a while as to how to do this. The scenario is as follows: I want to be able to forward all outbound web traffic from a browswer to Tor so that it is properly anonymized. Normally, one could just set the http proxy in the browser and be done with it but this is with a browser without the ability to do so specifically, a mobile browser. So ideally, what could be done then is to intercept all web/dns traffic requests from the browser and send it to Tor. Assume for this, that Tor will be running on the device too.

  I'm looking at some methods to browse the web, in situations where bandwidth is scarce (such as, flaky wifi connection, or mobile phone internet provider who overcharges the bandwidth). One thing that would save alot of bandwidth is not downloading images while browsing. This approach has two main drawbacks Sometimes a site's layout depends of images. There are some images you wish to see (thus disabling images downloading through firefox settings is not quite convenient). I'm looking therefor for a method that would allow me to Use some heuristic to find out which images are related to the website layout and allow them to be downloaded. Select a particular image from a website, download and display it. Maybe there's a firefox extension for that?

• My NetGear router suddenly started showing limited access for all wifi connected laptops

  I have netgear n300 router which I had installed about 6 months back. Here is how the setup is, I have a local internet provider by the name of "Hathway" they have this modem which is in turn connected to the router and a wire from router is connected to my desktop. As shown in this pic below, except for the laptop I use a desktop rest all the connection is same So with this connection and the below configuration, every thing worked fine. The desktop would work also all my laptops and mobile devices would connect and be able to access the internet without any problem. Now suddenly since yesterday (with no changes made whatsoever to this config) all my laptops start showing the limited connection message and cannot connect to the internet. However the desktop which is connected can access the internet. Can someone please guide me on this.

• Nokia Pc Suite problems with bluetooth (win7)

  I have a new Nokia C5-00 and a HP 620. The Bluetoothdriver are installed and the windows Bluetoothstack finds the mobile. After installing Nokia PC Suite I am asked to choose a connection method. As I click on Bluetooth the Nokia PC Suite shows an error message: "Cannot use the connection type.Check that all the needd hardware,software and drivers are available. (Code: OpenMedia)" I tried to switch it on and off via the "wireless" key on the laptop. The HP Software for the button shows that the Bluetooth is deactivated and advices me to go to the device manager and activate the Bluetooth device. Strangely the Bluetooth symbol (I guess from the windows Bluetoothstack) pops up at the same time and I can use the Bluetooth in it's basic windows features, but still nokia suite won't work. ideas????

I was provided IBM thinkpad from work ...on which I put ubuntu and i was satisfied with it for a year. Now I am quitting my current work and time has come for met to reveal to them that I put ubuntu on it. All in all I will be without a laptop in a week and am thinking about getting a mac book pro. I know I can see the GAL by clicking on the To... button, and I can see more specific info for a particular user, by adding them as a recipient and double-clicking their name in the To: field. Is there any way (inside Outlook) to have a laundry-list view of all users and phone/fax/mobile/address similar to the phone list view for contacts? Are there any other tools that might provide this functionality. I've used a GAL web interface before, but that cost $ and as I recall was challenging to manage.
