I am cloning (for lack of a better word) an application which uses an Object-Pascal compatible scripting language and needs to be script compatible. Am I going to end up writing an interpreter? (!)

  Given two lists: chars = ['ab', 'bc', 'ca'] words = ['abc', 'bca', 'dac', 'dbc', 'cba'] how can you use list comprehensions to generate a filtered list of words by the following condition: given that each word is of length n and chars is of length n as well, the filtered list should include only words that each i-th character is in the i string in words. In this case, we should get ['abc', 'bca'] as a result. (If this looks familiar to anyone, this was one of the questions in the previous Google code jam)

• Union struct produces garbage and general question about struct nomenclature

  I read about unions the other day( today ) and tried the sample functions that came with them. Easy enough, but the result was clear and utter garbage. The first example is: union Test { int Int; struct { char byte1; char byte2; char byte3; char byte4; } Bytes; }; where an int is assumed to have 32 bits. After I set a value Test t; t.Int = 7; and then cout cout << t.Bytes.byte1 << etc... the individual bytes, there is nothing displayed, but my computer beeps. Which is fairly odd I guess. The second example gave me even worse results. union SwitchEndian { unsigned short word; struct { unsigned char hi; unsigned char lo; } data; } Switcher; Looks a little wonky in my opinion. Anyway, from the description it says, this should automatically store the result in a high/little endian format when I set the value like Switcher.word = 7656; and calling with cout << Switcher.data.hi << endl The result of this were symbols not even defined in the ASCII chart. Not sure why those are showing up. Finally, I had an error when I tried correcting the example by, instead of placing Bytes at the end of the struct, positioning it right next to it. So instead of struct {} Bytes; I wanted to write struct Bytes {}; This tossed me a big ol' error. What's the difference between these? Since C++ cannot have unnamed structs it seemed, at the time, pretty obvious that the Bytes positioned at the beginning and at the end are the things that name it. Except no, that's not the entire answer I guess. What is it then?

  Hi all, I'm writing a Python+Qt4 application that would ideally need to pop up a window every once in a while, to display pdf documents and allow very basic operations, namely scrolling through the different pages and printing the document. I've found the reportLab to create pdf files, but nothing about pdf viewers. Does anyone knows anything that might help. i was really hoping for the existence of something like the QWebView widget... thanks in advance to all

  Hey stackoverflow community, I am looking for a Document Viewer application that I can embed in a Flash/Flex application that supports Microsoft Office documents as well as PDF. I have looked into print2flash as a possibility, but their automated converter executable requires access to the files and directories. Does anyone know of other alternatives which would have .NET/Java/Other libraries to convert these files to a SWF that can do it based on the download stream, as opposed to the actual files? Thanks!

  I have a arbitrarily large string of text from the user that needs to be split into 10k chunks (potentially adjustable value) and sent off to another system for processing. Chunks cannot be longer than 10k (or other arbitrary value) Text should be broken with natural language context in mind split on punctuation when possible split on spaces if no punction exists break a word as a last resort I'm trying not to re-invent the wheel with this, any suggestions before I roll this from scratch? • Where is the "personal" folder of the iPhone simulator?

  Hi, I found the iPhone simulator at /Username/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/4.2/ and in there I can see my apps within a cryptic directory name. One of my apps is storing a database and some cached files in the iPhone's "Personal" folder which I thought is the "Documents" folder in the directory of the simulator. But there's nothing in it. Nevertheless, I can read my files - where are they? René

• ABC PDF - create 256 color images

  I am using ABCpdf7 to create pdf documents on the fly - Here is something that I do not understand. When I create the pdf document from a url - the images in the pdf document seems to be 256 colors. Does anyone know how I can set ABCpdf to create full color images. If I spesify the image url - the image gets created at full color - but then I cannot crab a page in one go

  howdy using vs2008 C# Does anyone know how change the directory location that auto recover files are saved to in visual studio sp1. The specific directory it should be on my C# drive in my documents is always empty even when the feature is turned on. There where some changes to our network env and it seems my auto recover files are now being mapped to network drive and i need to change it back. I cant find anything on how to do this on net searches if anyone can help please. thanks for any help

  So I'm trying to connect to my database at the specified location, and the connection is established as long as the db at the same location specified at DataSource field, but what if I tried to distribute my application, the file path will change and will lead to errors I want to avoid.   I am designing a simple application using c# and it has a web browser in it. I need to either (preferably) refresh the page that is currently inside the broswer, or navigate to a "new" url. I tried Browser.Url = new Uri("http://www.pandora.com/"); but I get an error when I try to compile it.   I am attempting to set up NCover for usage in my FinalBuilder project, for a .NET 4.0 C# project, but my final coverage output file contains no coverage data. I am using: NCover 3.3.2 NUnit 2.5.4 FinalBuilder 6.3.0.2004 All tools are the latest official as of today. I've finally managed to coax FB into running my unit tests under NCover for the .NET 4.0 project, so I get Tests run: 184, ..., which is correct. • What text editors support vertical rulers?

  I'm looking for a feature somewhat like the vertical red 80 columns marker in NetBeans but one that's easier to use. I'd like it to function more like the tabs in MS Word except that the horizontal line is displayed on the entire file. I looked on the Comparison of Text Editors over at Wikipedia and I didn't find that "vertical ruler" was one of their features. It would be used to line up html tags in a massive file that I did not create, but have to maintain.
