    HI I tried to implement a simple GPS tracker. Therefore is used lm = (LocationManager) getSystemService(Context.LOCATION_SERVICE); lm.requestLocationUpdates(LocationManager.GPS_PROVIDER, 1000, 0, this); Then i used the public void onLocationChanged(Location location) { method to read the altitude of my current location. But i dont really know what Location.getAltitude() returns. The document says it returns the altitude. But is this in meters? or feets? if i put the phone on the desk next to me, this value changes between 500 and -500?? How does this really work???

  • selected option not clearing from memory android

    I have a small random number spinner that when you click gives a random number. I am having two problems. The first is when the main activity loads it displays a random number on the screen without the random number spinner being clicked. I am unsure what to set to false to keep it from opening with the main activity. The second problem is that when you select an option from the spinner it does not clear. Meaning that If you click on option D6 or D20 then you can not click on the same option again until selecting the other option first. Essentially the selection does not clear out of memory after the random number is selected.     I am been trying to copy a apk from assets of another apk to /system. Here is what I have done,it was working in my previous app but not in this.I have added permission for wrtiting external storage. It is successfully copying to internal storage,not not to /system.     Hey guys what is the best way to search through my list of objects, they return a few strings, last name and first name for example. Here how i'm currently searching but my search needs to match the entire string which I don't want. The search needs it to match part of the string like our contacts list on our phone and ignore the case. if (searchQ.equalsIgnoreCase(child.first_name)) { addChildToList(child); } Ive tried contains and starts with for example, they did not work.   • How do you import CA certificates onto an Android phone?

    Hi all, I want to connect to my University's wireless using my Nexus One. When I go to "Add Wi-Fi network" in Wireless Settings I fill in the Network SSID and select 802.1x Enterprise for the security and fill everything out. The problem is that our university's wireless uses Thawte Premium Server CA certificate for certification. When I click the drop down list for CA certificate I get nothing in the list (just N/A) Now I have the certificate (Thawte Premium Server CA.pem) and have moved it to my SD card, but it doesn't look like Android automatically detects it. Where should I put the certificate so that the Android wireless manager recognizes it. In other words, how can I import a CA certificate so that Android recognizes that it is on the phone and displays it in the CA Certificate drop down list. Thanks for any help, Tomek P.S. My phone is not rooted EDIT: After doing some research it looks like you are able to install certificates by going to your phone's settings Location & Security Install from SD card Unfortunately it looks like the only accepted file extension is .p12. It does not look like there is a way to import .cer or .pem files (which are the only two files that come with the Thawte certificates) at this moment. It does look like you can use a converter to convert your .cer or .pem files to .p12, however a key file is needed. https://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-converter.html I do not know where to get this key file for the Thawte certificates.

    Picked this up from a recent Dublin Google Technology User Group meeting: Android App Mistakes: Avoiding the Anti-Patterns by Mark Murphy, CommonsWare Interesting approach of "anti-patterns" aimed at mobile developers (in this case Android), looking at the best way to use code and what's in the SDK while combining it with UX guidance (the premise being the developer does the lot). Interestingly, the idea came through that developers need to stop trying to make one O/S behave like another--on UX grounds. Also, pretty clear that a web-based paradigm is being promoting for Android (translators tell me that translating an Android app reminded them of translating web pages too). Haven't see the "anti"-approach before, developer cookbooks and design patterns sure. Check out the slideshare presentation.

    My friend has a Sony Ericsson Xperia (most probably X8) handset which is an Android based smartphone. He is not able to send files through bluetooth but able to receive. I don't exactly remember the version of Android which he is currently having. He has tried to download and install the required update using the same phone (he has internet connected) from http://www.sonyericsson.com but not able to install it. So, he asked me to help him. Which version of Android do you think he has? Does it seem like he does not have Android 2.1 installed. It is written here (click on Xperia X8) that If your phone already has Android 2.1, you can use your mobile network* or a WiFi connection to download the software. Is it possible that he does not have updated Android and so not able to download? If so, does he need to upgrade to Android 2.1 first? Should it be done by connecting it to a PC?
