    What determines the default setting of the x87 FPU control word -- specifically, the precision control field? Does the compiler set it based on the target processor? Is there a compiler option to change it? Using Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition on an Intel Core Duo processor, the default setting for the precision control field is "01b", meaning double (53 bit) precision. I'm wondering -- why is the default not "11"b, or extended (64 bit) precision? (I know I can change it using _controlfp.)

    In ASP.NET, binding a DataGrid to a list of objects is super-easy. I end up with a row for each object in the list, and any cell in a given row is bound to a property of the corresponding object. However, suppose one of the properties of my object is a dictionary, and each is expected to contain a specific key. Is there any way to bind one of my DataGridColumns to that dictionary key?   • Is it possible to read to a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net app?

    I'm trying to read a Paradox 7.x .db file in a .Net 3.5 app and I'm not being successful on that. First of all, when I'm registering the odbc, as a user or system dsn, the Microsoft Paradox ODBC Driver only display versions up to 5.x, so it looks like that it does not support Paradox version 7.x. At connectionsstrings.com I've found the connection string that is supposed to work with Paradox 7.x: Provider=MSDASQL;Persist Security Info=False;Mode=Read; Extended Properties='DSN=Paradox;DBQ=C:\mydbfolder; DefaultDir=C:\mydbfolder;DriverId=538;FIL=Paradox 7.X;MaxBufferSize=2048; PageTimeout=600;';Initial Catalog=C:\mydbfolder But when I try to test the connection using a Data Adapter I get the following exception: "ERROR [IM002] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified" I have specified the ODBC as a user DSN and as a System DSN as well but kept receiving the same error. I would like to get a handle to the actual jaxb context that will process the incoming soap xml message, before it has been unmarshalled into java objects. Then I would like to get the unmarshaller of this jaxb context - the one that actually will be used during the unmarshalling. And then setup some properties of this unmarshaller (e.g. listener and idresolver).

    I'm looking to implement a state machine to manage a user moving through a series of steps over an extended period of time (weeks) with emails and then they interact with the app. I've looked at a couple of AASM plugins and forks (it seems like this plugin space has become a bit chaotic) and am curious what people would recommend. I saw the automatic AASM by hashrocket, that transitions states using cron, and from the title it looks like it might fit the bill but there doesn't appear to be any documentation anywhere and it looks more like a skeleton app than a plugin.

Therefore, we did a sync and then this to flush the cache and buffers: echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches and directly afterwards the I/O wait and service times virtually went through the roof, and everything on the machine felt like slow motion. During the next few hours the latency recovered and everything was as before - small to medium lags in short, unpredictable intervals. Now my question is: does anybody have any idea what might cause this annoying behaviour? Is it the first indication of the disk array or the raid controller dying, or something that can be easily mended by rebooting? (At the moment we're very reluctant to do this, however, because we're afraid that the disks might not come back up again.) Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Chris. Edited to add: we do see one or two processes go to 'D' state in top, one of which seems to be kjournald rather frequently. If I'm not mistaken, however, this does not indicate the processes causing the latency, but rather those affected by it - correct me if I'm wrong.   • objective-c default init method for class?

    Hello, I have two differing methods for initializing my objective-c class. One is the default, and one takes a configuration parameter. Now, I'm pretty green when it comes to objective-c, but I've implemented these methods and I'm wondering if there's a better (more correct/in good style) way to handle initialization than the way I have done it. Meaning, did I write these initialization functions in accordance with standards and good style? It just doesn't feel right to check for the existence of selfPtr and then return based on that.   • How to Detect Forward and Back Mouse Button Events in Delphi?

    If a mouse has other buttons in addition to the standard left/right/middle (e.g. forward/back), how can we detect those button clicks in Delphi? An example of how this is used is the Internet Explorer, where the forward/back button on the side of a Logitech or MS mouse cycles forward and back between any loaded web pages. This seems to replicate the Backspace/CTRL+Backspace on the keyboard but I tried to detect that using KeyPreview and the KeyPress event but it does not pick it up. Any idea how to detect clicks on these extended mouse buttons?

    I came across this RDMS via the advert on stackoverflow. Seems to be in the vein of MS Access / Filemaker / Apex database development tools but focused on web based applications. It quotes rave reviews from EWeek and a favourable mention from Dr Dobbs regarding its ability to create AJAX web applications without coding. The Eweek review, apparently written by an ASP.NET programmer, goes on to proclaim the ease at which apps can be extended using the inbuilt XBasic language and how custom javascript can easily be added without wading through code. Has anyone here built a web app with Alpha 5? Does anyone have comments on the development process, the speed of it or limitations they encountered along the way? To me it seems Oracle APEX comes closest to the feature set, has anyone programmed in both and have any comments?

    I have a RESX resource file that I can retrieve the values out of using the strongly typed properties and assign to values in my Silverlight 3 app. However at runtime I need to generate the lookup key based on some values to avoid a ton of if/switch statements. I'm trying to use the ResourceManager, but it doesn't like .resx files. Searched far and wide... is this just not possible in SL3? Does anyone have another suggestion?

    I am still fairly new to C# and I am trying to decide the best way to structure a new program. Here is what I want to do and I would like feed back on my idea. Presentation Layer Business Layer (Separate Class Library) Data Layer (Separate Class Library) Model Layer (Separate Class Library) What I am struggling with is if it is ok to have the classes in the Data Layer and Business Layer inherit from the types I define in Model Layer. This way I can extended the types as needed in my Business Layer with any new properties I see fit. I might not use every property from the Model type in my Business Layer class but is that really a big deal? If this isn't clear enough I can try and put together an example.

That brings up the image chooser dialog box: How do I make my icon show up in this menu as a classpath resource?     In Asp.Net MVC 2.0, at least in the beta, you could decoration your model classes with data annotation attributes and enable client side validation that leverages that criteria defined in your model data annotation attibutes. Is there anything similar for Java Spring MVC 3.0? Is it possible to inject a component into the response pipeline that can inspect the model's annotated properties and render client side validation logic to complement the server side validation logic that is invoked prior to the controller handling the request?
