• ESPN API - How can I retrieve college basketball conferences using the Teams API?

  The support forums on ESPN.com recommend using Stack Overflow with the ESPN tag. That's why I'm here. I'm trying to obtain a list of all NCAA college basketball teams using ESPN's Teams API. I started with this GET request: http://api.espn.com/v1/sports/basketball/mens-college-basketball/teams?apikey=MY_API_KEY That gave me a list of teams, but many of them are missing. For example, there is no Nebraska. So then I thought that maybe I need to get a list of teams by conference. So I read this in the documentation: GROUPS: Allows for filtering by "group" or division, e.g. AL East, NFC South, etc. For group IDs and their corresponding values, make a request to http://developer.espn.com/v1/{resource}/leagues. Not applicable to golf and tennis. So then I try to make a request to `http://developer.espn.com/v1/basketball/mens-college-basketball/leagues?apikey=MY_API_KEY' and it says the page does not exist. Is this a bug or user error?

• Zend_Controller_Router_Route_Chain more routes - more problems

  When i use only langRoute and moduleRoute i have not any problems. But when i add pageRoute it is not work properly. I have tried many another ways do it (Regex etc) but none gives the desired result.   What all is there to know about ping and the IP address to ping while troubleshooting/diagnosing a problem in the internet connection? For example: I run the command ping 192.168.1.1 -t in the command prompt, and if there is no reply I get something is odd, but I don't understand what is and where it is. I am looking for a complete list (okay, as many as you got), of IP address to ping while troubleshooting my network connection, and an insight into what the status message returned by them implies.

• Fake location for the device (custom)

  I know there are a few apps out there to fake a devices location but specifically what i want to do is use a location grabbed from a url. What direction should I look for setting the location on the device. The scenario i have is a jailbroken Wi-Fi iPad tethered to a nexus one. The nexus one would host a background service that when a request is recieved, it would respond with gps data of its current location. The jailbroken ipad would have a background service that either updated the location on a time interval, or on a per request basis (depending on how i have to implement it) by submitting a request to the tethered nexus one service. That data would then be set on the ipad and an application requesting location would get the service data. The goal is to recreate the location faker app's functionality with the exception of the spoofed location comes from the nexus ones gps via the service but i have not yet found out how to set the location data for the device. I can ofcourse implement this in a per app basis but it would be awesome to have any app be able to use it.

• How do I deal with different requests that map to the same response?

  I'm designing a Web service. The request is idempotent, so I chose the GET method. The response is relatively expensive to calculate and not small, so I want to get caching (on the protocol level) right. (Don't worry about memoisation at my part, I have that already covered; my question here is actually also paying attention to the Web as a whole.) There's only one mandatory parameter and a number of optional parameter with default values if missing. For example, the following two map to the same representation of the response. (If this is a dumb way to go about it the interface, propose something better.) GET /service?mandatory_parameter=some_data HTTP/1.1 GET /service?mandatory_parameter=some_data;optional_parameter=default1;another_optional_parameter=default2;yet_another_optional_parameter=default3 HTTP/1.1 However, I imagine clients do not know this and would treat them separate and therefore waste cache storage. What should I do to avoid violating the golden rule of caching? Make up a canonical form, document it (e.g. all parameters are required after all and need to be sorted in a specific order) and return a client error unless the required form is met? Instead of an error, redirect permanently to the canonical form of a request? Or is it enough to not mind how the request looks like, and just respond with the same ETag for same responses?

  I am trying to add a feature to my app that would allow me to enable/disable the "Call Me" button based on whether or not I am at [home|the office]. I created a model in the database called setting, it looks like this: class setting(models.Model): key = models.CharField(max_length=200) value = models.CharField(max_length=200) Pretty simple. There is currently one row, available, the value of it is the string True. I want to be able to transparently pass variables to the templates like this: {% if available %} <!-- Display button --> {% else %} <!-- Display grayed out button --> {% endif %} Now, I could add logic to every view that would check the database, and pass the variable to the template, but I am trying to stay DRY. What is the best way to do this? UPDATE I created a context processor, and added it's path to the TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS, but it is not being passed to the template def available(request): available = Setting.objects.get(key="available") if open.value == "True": return {"available":True} else: return {} UPDATE TWO If you are using the shortcut render_to_response, you need to pass an instance of RequestContext to the function. from the django documentation: If you're using Django's render_to_response() shortcut to populate a template with the contents of a dictionary, your template will be passed a Context instance by default (not a RequestContext). To use a RequestContext in your template rendering, pass an optional third argument to render_to_response(): a RequestContext instance.   I read from < Essential ASP.NET with Examples in C# the following statement: Another useful property to know about is the static Current property of the HttpContext class. This property always points to the current instance of the HttpContext class for the request being serviced. This can be convenient if you are writing helper classes that will be used from pages or other pipeline classes and may need to access the context for whatever reason. By using the static Current property to retrieve the context, you can avoid passing a reference to it to helper classes. For example, the class shown in Listing 4-1 uses the Current property of the context to access the QueryString and print something to the current response buffer. Note that for this static property to be correctly initialized, the caller must be executing on the original request thread, so if you have spawned additional threads to perform work during a request, you must take care to provide access to the context class yourself. I am wondering about the root cause of the bold part, and one thing leads to another, here is my thoughts: We know that a process can have multiple threads. Each of these threads have their own stacks, respectively. These threads also have access to a shared memory area, the heap. The stack then, as I understand it, is kind of where all the context for that thread is stored. For a thread to access something in the heap it must use a pointer, and the pointer is stored on its stack. So when we make some cross-thread calls, we must make sure that all the necessary context info is passed from the caller thread's stack to the callee thread's stack.   I'm trying to create a fetch predicate that is the analog to the SQL "IN" statement, and the syntax to do so with NSPredicate escapes me. I have a list of names (just NSString objects) in an NSArray as returned by: [RPBodyPartCategory defaultBodyPartCategoryNames] So let's say that array has string such as {@"Liver", @"Kidney", @"Thyroid"} ... etc. I want to fetch all 'BodyPartCategory' instances whose name attribute matches one of the strings in the set provided (technically NSArray but I can make it an NSSet). In SQL, this would be something like: SELECT * FROM BodyPartCategories WHERE name IN ('Liver', 'Kidney', 'Thyroid') I've gone through various portions of the Predicate Programming Guide, but I don't see this simple use case covered.   I want to understand Struts 2 value stack vs request scope. I want the struts2 value stack to work same as request scope. for e.g. i have invoked action1 in struts 2, the action performs some db task and gets back. it performs some operation on a object called cases (type Cases, where Cases is bean class with getters and setters). cases object is declared at class level. action1 led a view to be rendered say jsp1. jsp1 again has some action called as action2. action2 leads to the same java file as of action1 but has different method. Now, i want to access the object which was used in action1. during action1 cases was pushed to Value Stack and was accessed on jsp1. I simply tried accessing its getter methods, but it returns a null value....!! any solution on how to do ??? or is it possible ?? i know if its possible then what is the difference between vs and request scope...

• Dynamic Image Caching with Java

  I have a servlet with an API that delivers images from GET requests. The servlet creates a data file of CAD commands based on the parameters of the GET request. This data file is then delivered to an image parser, which creates an image on the file system. The servlet reads the image and returns the bytes on the response. All of the IO and the calling of the image parser program can be very taxing and images of around 80kb are rendering in 3-4000ms on a local system. There are roughly 20 parameters that make up the GET request. Each correlates to a different portion of the image. So, the combinations of possible images is extremely large. To alleviate the loading time, I plan to store BLOBs of rendered images in a database. If a GET request matches one previously executed, I will pull from cache. Else, I will render a new one. This does not fix "first-time" run, but will help "n+1 runs". Any other ideas on how I can improve performance?

• How do I trust a self signed cert using https?

  Edit: I originally thought the server's certificate was self signed. Turns out it was signed by a self-signed CA certificate. I'm trying to write a Node.js application that accesses an HTTPS site that's protected using a self-signed certificate certificate signed by a private, self-signed CA certificate. I'd also like to not completely disable certificate checking. I tried putting the self signed certificate server's certificate in the request options, but that doesn't seem to be working. Anyone know how to do this? I expect the following code to print statusCode 200, but instead it prints [Error: SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN]. • Netflix, jQuery, JSONP, and OData

  At the last MIX conference, Netflix announced that they are exposing their catalog of movie information using the OData protocol. This is great news! This means that you can take advantage of all of the advanced OData querying features against a live database of Netflix movies. In this blog entry, I’ll demonstrate how you can use Netflix, jQuery, JSONP, and OData to create a simple movie lookup form. The form enables you to enter a movie title, or part of a movie title, and display a list of matching movies. For example, Figure 1 illustrates the movies displayed when you enter the value robot into the lookup form.   Using the Netflix OData Catalog API You can learn about the Netflix OData Catalog API at the following website: http://developer.netflix.com/docs/oData_Catalog The nice thing about this website is that it provides plenty of samples. It also has a good general reference for OData. For example, the website includes a list of OData filter operators and functions. The Netflix Catalog API exposes 4 top-level resources: Titles – A database of Movie information including interesting movie properties such as synopsis, BoxArt, and Cast. People – A database of people information including interesting information such as Awards, TitlesDirected, and TitlesActedIn. Languages – Enables you to get title information in different languages. Genres – Enables you to get title information for specific movie genres. OData is REST based. This means that you can perform queries by putting together the right URL. For example, if you want to get a list of the movies that were released after 2010 and that had an average rating greater than 4 then you can enter the following URL in the address bar of your browser: http://odata.netflix.com/Catalog/Titles?$filter=ReleaseYear gt 2010&AverageRating gt 4 Entering this URL returns the movies in Figure 2. • Squid, NTLM, Windows 7 and IE8

  I'm running Squid 2.7-stable4, Samba 3 and the Windows 7 RC with IE8. I have NTLM authentication setup on my squid proxy server and it works fine for every combination of browser and Windows (including IE8 on XP and Firefox on Win7), but it doesn't work (keeps asking for authentication) for IE8 on Windows 7. I can get it to work using the LmCompatibilityLevel registry hack, but I'd really prefer to get it working on the server. Does anyone have any experience with this? Or know where to start looking? The samba logs don't reveal much.   I would like to use postfwd version 2 to limit the amount of daily mail sent by my sasl authenticated users. I installed latest tarball: postfwd-1.35 with latest postfix from Centos 6.4 In my I have only this rule id=RULEZEROSASL sasl_username=~/^(\S+)$/ action=rcpt(sasl_username/500/86400/REJECT only 500 recipients per day for $$sasl_username) which should reject only mail with authenticated users (not mail from trusted mailservers). • Service-Oriented Architecture and Web Services

  Service oriented architecture is an architectural model for developing distributed systems across a network or the Internet. The main goal of this model is to create a collection of sub-systems to function as one unified system. This approach allows applications to work within the context of a client server relationship much like a web browser would interact with a web server. In this relationship a client application can request an action to be performed on a server application and are returned to the requesting client. It is important to note that primary implementation of service oriented architecture is through the use of web services. Web services are exposed components of a remote application over a network. Typically web services communicate over the HTTP and HTTPS protocols which are also the standard protocol for accessing web pages on the Internet.  These exposed components are self-contained and are self-describing.  Due to web services independence, they can be called by any application as long as it can be accessed via the network.  Web services allow for a lot of flexibility when connecting two distinct systems because the service works independently from the client. In this case a web services built with Java in a UNIX environment not will have problems handling request from a C# application in a windows environment. • How do I get a .Net 4.0 app to coexist as an application under a SharePoint 2007 website in IIS v7?

  I have created a small .Net 4.0 website and installed it on my SharePoint server as a separate web site in IIS v7 (using port 8008 for now). I had to install the .Net 4 framework, set up the database, etc. and this all went smoothly and my app works as a standalone website. Now I am trying to get pages from my website to show up in SharePoint 2007. For various reasons (the SharePoint site is using SSL, security, etc.) I now need to move my .Net app to run under the SharePoint 2007 site in IIS. I have added it as an 'Application' and set it up with the same .Net v4 application pool and settings that were working when it was set up as a standalone site. Now when I try to access the application I get the error at the end of this description. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I already tried following the instructions on this post: http://blogs.msdn.com/sgoodyear/archive/2007/05/07/custom-web-applications-coexisting-with-sharepoint-2007.aspx but that did not help. Thanks! • Parsing HTML Documents with the Html Agility Pack

  Screen scraping is the process of programmatically accessing and processing information from an external website. For example, a price comparison website might screen scrape a variety of online retailers to build a database of products and what various retailers are selling them for. Typically, screen scraping is performed by mimicking the behavior of a browser - namely, by making an HTTP request from code and then parsing and analyzing the returned HTML. The .NET Framework offers a variety of classes for accessing data from a remote website, namely the WebClient class and the HttpWebRequest class. These classes are useful for making an HTTP request to a remote website and pulling down the markup from a particular URL, but they offer no assistance in parsing the returned HTML. Instead, developers commonly rely on string parsing methods like String.IndexOf, String.Substring, and the like, or through the use of regular expressions. Another option for parsing HTML documents is to use the Html Agility Pack, a free, open-source library designed to simplify reading from and writing to HTML documents. The Html Agility Pack constructs a Document Object Model (DOM) view of the HTML document being parsed. With a few lines of code, developers can walk through the DOM, moving from a node to its children, or vice versa. Also, the Html Agility Pack can return specific nodes in the DOM through the use of XPath expressions. I have installed the following modules using Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0: * IIS URL Rewrite Module 2 * Microsoft Application Request Routing Version 2 for IIS 7 * Microsoft Web Farm Framework Version 1 for IIS 7 * Microsoft External Cache Version 1 for IIS 7 Now I am trying to configure a URL Rewrite rule using the "Route to Server" option. However, in the Edit Inbound Rule page, there is no such option: all I have available are: * Rewrite * None * Redirect * Custom Response * Abort Request Why is there no "route to server" option ?
