  • Are Time Machine backups secure?

    I have my Time Machine backups on an external disk (WD My Passport with no hardware encryption) and I'm worried if the data stored on the disk is safe in case somebody steals it and connect it to any Mac/PC. Does any Mac can browse the Time Machine backups? Or are they encrypted in any way? If no, is there a way to improve security of the backups, should I buy a hardware encryption based HD? Thanks.

    I have recreated a new email user on a Windows SBS 2003 Active Directory via Advanced Management. I need to enable Outlook Office access on the user's PC but Microsoft Outlook Office does not show in the Add Programs\Set Program Access\Custom section. There are tools that allow you to hide the icon for Set program access but I need to add content, specifically Outlook Office. Outlook Express is enabled but I don't need it.

  • how to rotate one squid user among multiple IPs based on number of requests processed by each IP

    I want to set up a Squid ACL in the following manner-- For example, my Squid Proxy Server has 10 IP addresses- now I have a user 'demouser'. I want that for the very first request sent to 'demouser' this user uses IP address #1, for the second request it uses IP address #2, for the 3rd request of the day it uses IP address #3 and so on till it uses up all IPs. One more level of control I would like is that once the user has used up all available IP addresses once per address, then it does not allow the proxy request to go through. How do I set up such a configuration on Squid Proxy server ACL? Even a document or how to would be very helpful. The official wiki talks about one 'weird' case- choosing an IP address based on time of day the request was made to the proxy server. The other cases are all regular use cases which are not even remotely near my requirement as specified above.

    i have widows seven ultimate install on my laptop but use xp mode for many applications on it, is it possible to return an application in xp mode to an earlier restore point in just xp mode or does the host machine need to be restored i do not wish to make any changes on the host but require to either re install windows virtual pc and all the applications and upgrade them slowly to the point my application fails or restore the applications back? any advise on this will be grately recieved

So here goes: I am looking to buy a color printer for home use, mostly for photos (at least medium-quality) and also for low-volume b/w text. Duplex would be neat but not a must.     Rapid Virtualization Indexing (RVI) is a hardware virtualization feature that can potentially give significant performance improvement. Intel's equivalent is Extended Page Tables. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid_Virtualization_Indexing for more details. My question is: Does RVI require motherboard or chipset support? If yes, what desktop chipsets support it? I've ordered a Phenom II CPU (which supports RVI) but I haven't bought the motherboard. I'll install XenServer or VMware ESXi (which both support RVI) on the new computer.

    I like to use the default notes gadget in Windows Vista, and I want to synchronize my notes between my PC and my laptop. I'm going to use Dropbox, so I just need to know where does the gadget store my notes. I looked inside the Appdata folder and couldn't find the actual notes (only configuration files). Where are they? They have to be stored somewhere, since they are saved even if you close the sidebar.

    I have a Sony Ericsson C702 phone with a flat fee internet subscription (GPRS/UMTS). I'd like to connect my Linux (Kubuntu 9.04) laptop to internet via this phone, using bluetooth (I also have a cable connection but that's propietary, doubt it'll work). How can I do this, preferably via GUI / NetworkManager / the BT applet that comes with KDE? In Windows I use SE's PC suite software which works great, but is not available for Linux.

    Started seeing this this morning in Apple Mail. I have one of those exclamation point error indicators next to "Inbox", with this error message when I click on it: There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “IMAP Account” or try again. The server returned the error: Account exceeded bandwidth limits. (Failure). This is in Snow Leopard. I'm using GMail IMAP, and I am way below the size quota - I've never heard of there even being a bandwidth quota. I'm also not getting mail from the same account to the mail app on my iPhone. EDIT - a month later I'm seeing this, and I'm thinking of just switching Mobile Me. EDIT AGAIN - Making community wiki. I stopped seeing the problem once I updated Snow Leopard to the latest version, but since others continue to see it...

    I have an HP Officejet 8600 Pro that has faxing capabilities. However I do not send faxes often and I do not need to pay for a dedicated fax number/line. Is there a way to send and receive faxes using the built in wifi without a fax number from the HP? I have seen online services that allow this from the PC, is that the only way to do this?     since some days I try to get freenx (CentOS package 0.7.3) running under CentOS 6.3. It is like found on many websites: First login is successfull, after that all login attempts fail with the negotiation error. A simple ssh with the same username to the server is successful. For the installation I followed the howTo on http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/FreeNX Strange is that the changelog of FreeNX 0.7.3 tells that this bug was fixed. Has anybody been successful in running FreeNX under CentOS without this problem and knows how to fix it? Frank
