  I"m looking for a term here. in messaging systems you send a request, and it processes and sends a response. if that same request is sent it should return the same response, (but not necessarily process the details) This would be like submitting financial details twice.

  How do I get the number of packages transmitted per TCP connection? I am using Java, but i know I will have to fetch the number from the underlying OS, so this quastion applies to Linux and Windows operating systems and will have different answers for each of them, I assume. I need this information to profile the network load of an application which seems to send too many small packages by flushing the socket streams too often.

  If I use multiple repositories, all located under a single root folder, how can I set it up so that they will use a single master svnconf/passwd file for setup but still allow me to customize each if the need arises? • Project works in eclipse but not when exported

  I wrote an application that uses GraphViz to generate some graphs as .gif's according to the DOT syntax. When I run from Eclipse the images are generated fine but when I export it as a jar the images are created but there is no data in them. When I view them in Microsoft Picture Viewer its just the red X. It was working as an exported jar until I put the picture generation in its own thread. I can't seem to figure out whats going on here. Are there any problems exporting multi-threaded projects? Any one have any ideas? Thanks

• Random walk- Brownian Motion

  I've been assigned the project of creating a simple console app. that models brownian motion in a 2D plane. I wasn't given much information on how to do so (and I'm hoping that it's a pretty popular assignment so that I could get some insight) just that it relies on random number generation. I researched brownian motion for a little bit and saw some formulas that looked complicated, but by the description is just seems to have to move randomly within a certain number interval. Can anyone clarify? Am I to create a program that continually creates a random number in an interval and then modify the particles "x" and "y" coordinate or is there more to it? Thanks for any help.

  Using Oracle 10g. ( 10.2.0.4 ) Possibly by looking at either logs or system tables is there a way to determine which version of the oracle client each connection is using. Our systems initially had 8.1.7 Clients, and then 9.X clients. We attempted to manually locate all machines that had older clients and upgrade them to to 10.2 Clients. We are seeking a method to audit (from the server) if we were successful in upgrading all of our client machines.

• SSIS Script Component + Helper Assemblies (.dll's)

  I got a script component which does Transformation / DataType conversions / Creating some calculated columns. All the transform validations / datatype conversion methods and for new column generation is put into custom .dll. As this script component would be same for all other tables, only thing is to define input / ouput columns and apply validation methods on required columns. This all works fine. On production server where do I need to deploy my .dll. Would just putting it into GAC will be enough or need to do something else. Regards

  My import of sql via the mysql console is rather slow and as our sql file is increasing every day I would like to know if there are any alternatives on how to import a sql file faster. Changing to oracle or other systems is no option, the configuration has to stay the same. Currently the sql file is: 1.5 Gb I'm on Wamp with Apache 2.2.14, PHP 5.2.11 and MySQL 5.1.41.   I've built an ASP.NET page whose output stream is a dynamically-generated PNG image containing only text on a transparent background. The text is based upon database IDs contained in the querystring. There will be a limited number of variations. Which one of the following would be the most efficient means of returning the image to the client? Store each variation upon the first generation, and thenceforth retrieve this from the drive. Simply generate the image each time. Cache the output response based upon the querystring.

  I have a Media table in the database. I also have an IMedia interface. I have two different media types that implements the same interface: 1) AudioMedia 2) PictureMedia What I wonder here, is if I can use EntityFramework (I'm using an EDMX file but I have my models in a separate library, with automatic code generation turned off), and depending on the data in the database, select what type to get (AutioMedia or PictureMedia). Since they are both implementing the same interface (could be changed to an abstract class if needed I suppose), I'm thinking that somewhere along the way you could specify what class it should be. I should perhaps point out that I have a class that inherits from ObjectContext to access the objects. Perhaps there is something that that can be done?

  I'm modelling a document generation system in couchdb. It semi-automates the production of proposal and presentation documents from managable document fragments. Much like, say, Basecamp, it breaks down very simply into self-contained data per 'account'. Each account has multiple users, projects, documents, etc. However, nothing should be shared between accounts. I can see two ways of doing this: one couchdb database per account use a namespace / property to identify the account It seems to me that the first approach is conceptually sound and potentially has security and partitioning advantages. However, it seems to me to restrict some cross-database data querying (that I don't have a use case for now but you never know...) and to make updating views potentially require an awful lot of writes. Does anyone experienced with this kind of decision have any advice?
