• What to do with database in dev/production phases of a website?

  For a while now I've been keeping a website I'm developing in the standard dev/production phases. Its been pretty simple: Mercurial repo for dev, repo for production. Do work in dev, get approved, push to production. But now I'm trying to apply this process to a new website that has a database and am struggling on how to figure out a development strategy. What I didn't mention above is that I do all my work on my own repo, push it to dev, then later push it to production, so its 3 different servers. So how do I manage my database? The obvious solution of mysqldump every commit isn't going to happen, and a dump at the end of the day isn't all that helpful when you want to undo later one change that happened in the middle of the day. What is the best way to accomplish this?

• Right multi object dependance design

  I need some help with a correct design. I have a class called BufferManager. The push() method of this class reads data from a source and pushes it to a buffer repeatedly until there is no more data left in the source. There are also consumer threads that read data from this buffer, as soon as new data arrives. There is an option to sort the data before it comes to buffer. What I do right now is that BufferManager, instead of pushing data to the buffer, pushes it to another "sorting" buffer and starts a sorting thread. SorterManager class reads the data, sorts it in files and push()es the sorted data into the buffer. There will be a bottleneck (I use merge sort with files) but this is something I can't avoid. This is a bad design, because both BufferManager and SorterManager push data to a buffer (that consumers read from). I think only BufferManager should do it. How can I design it?

• Tracking referrals between profiles on the same domain in Google Analytics

  I have a website at mydomain.com that uses Analytics. I have a blog that resides at mydomain.com/blog/, which also uses Analytics They are on different profiles. The main site uses something like: _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-6']); While the blog uses: _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-XXXXXXXX-7']); _gaq.push(['_setCookiePath', '/blog/']); My issues is that this seems not to track referrals from the blog through to the main site when, for instance, the logo which links to the main site is clicked. Ideally, I would like the clicks of this logo to report that the source was mydomain.com/blog/, but because they are at the same domain they seem to register as direct traffic. Have I missed a step in my configuration, or will I have to resort to linking to something like mydomain.com?ref=blog? Thank you.

  Ongoing project idea. So this is of long running personal interest to build a Mobile App that shows you a push notification/pop up alert, when anyone calls your house phone. So I've taken delivery of a Raspberry Pi. I've ordered a new Crucible Technology Caller ID Box. (arriving soon). I have been writing/learning Python to implement the Listener software. This will in turn push xml messages up to Azure for final delivery via push notifications to an App. iOS app already written to receive the notifications/allow address book additions made up from phone numbers from incoming calls. So this is fusion, R-Pi, Azure, Hardware and iOS. Details to follow as this plan unfolds.

Indeed there's over thousands of tutorials explaining and teaching you the basic's of Java and how It works but they are usually and majority of the tutorial's teaching you Java basic's are boring and don't push you as you could do. Basically, is there any tutorials out there that push you so and give you problems you have to solve and push your knowledge so you get a much better understanding of creating java games. • Using gerrit (or similar tool) on a team where multiple devs work on a single feature

  We have a team of roughly ~8 devs who regularly work on the same feature over the course of a 3 week sprint. It isn't quite pair programming, but in our current workflow devs regularly push up incomplete code for a colleague to complete. This worked fine before we introduced Gerrit, but now our commits need to represent chunks of test-passing, complete, logical functionality, and so the model breaks. My only idea is to have everybody push up to a separate, untracked branch up until the functionality is ready for review, then squash everything into commits that make sense and push up. Is there another Gerrit-ized workflow that could work? I know this is a widely discussed topic on Google Groups, and that there has recently been some discussion of Gerrit topic reviews, but I wanted to see if there is anybody out there using Gerrit in this way, and what the suggested workflow would be.

• GitHub OS project how to have a good version and a work in progress version

  I have started my own OS application, I am hosting it on GitHub. My problem is that I push changes to the repository from more than one location so sometimes I want to work on it and sometimes I can't always finish something in time but I would still like to push it anyway so I can fetch it later from my other location. I'd like to be able to somehow have a stable version and have the master branch be a 'work in progress'. How do I do this? Is there some button I can push that will take the code from my master branch and make it into a zip file in my downloads tab and call it a version or should I do this by hand? Would it be better to have the master branch be nice and neat and have a separate branch to play with and then merge the two when the time is right? Would this not cause more problems in the merging phase?

  I am trying to make this captcha jquery plugin to work. The a certain line of code is executed, the error pops up. • ASP.NET MVC2: Client-side validation not working with Start.js

  Ok, this is strange. I would hope it's something I'm doing wrong and not that MS has two technologies that simply don't work together. (UPDATE: See bottom of post for Script tag order in HEAD section) I'm trying to use the dataView template and client-side validation. • jQuery UI datepicker will not display - full code included

  I am having trouble displaying the jQuery datepicker as shown here: http://jqueryui.com/demos/datepicker/ I believe I downloaded all of the proper files, but to be certain, I started from scratch and ripped the demo site. Not all of it, but what I believed to be the important parts. The result is no datepicker to be shown and no javascript errors.   Microsoft Tech ed 2010 was a great success. Infact  Most of such conferences always provide a great place to meet other  technology enthusiasts and ofcourse,whats in the pipeline for future products of a company or field.. And yet again,MS Tech ed India is coming on 23-25 march  in Banglore,India.Well,the place is  ofcourse right suited for any IT/Computing conference.After all,Its Silicon Valley of India.. I believe,Web forms will be dead sooner or later with ASP.Net  MVC  gaining share many folds.(TODO:Learn MVC). The new standard is surely:JQUERY . Day3: a) Cross Browser applications in Azure       b)VS 2010 sessions of automated testing azure apps etc. Windows Phone 7 sessions will surely be of more interest now after MS-Nokia Deal. Though,Personally,I would want atleast some worth of  sessions on MS  future in Robotics,AI.Perhaps  I am looking at wrong place..(When is PDC?)
